• Would not give 2 beds just because booked through Priceline. Put in terrace level which is more like a basement. Room smelled moist and wet.

“Terrible hotel for Courtyard. Dirty room and hallways, and a rude staff. Hard to find location. Really disappointed. Have stayed at other Courtyards and this was a pit.”

“We mentioned to the staff that we were celebrating our 25th wedding anniversary and when we returned to the room later that evening we found a card and gift bag -- we really appreciate the thoughtfulness. However, while we were out we had received a call from one of our daughters, telling us she was in labor -- so we checked out immediately and made it to the hospital in time to witness the birth of our grandson! This was an anniversary to remember!”

• I liked that the hotel is completely non-smoking, it has new linens, and newly decorated rooms.
• There was only one staircase and one elevator so we had to walk far to our room.

“This is a very pleasant hotel located on the main business route 29. It is about 3 miles from University of Virginia and downtown Charlottesville. The hotel is completely smoke-free and is very clean. It appeared to have new carpets, new furniture and new linens on the bed. The room was very spacious and also had a refrigerator. My infant daughter was with us and the hotel delivered a port-a-crib moments after we asked for it. The air conditioning was controlled by a thermostat in the room rather than one of those ancient, noise-making air conditioners. The upper level floors have a balcony as well. The pool is indoors and there is also a hot tub. The building is a big rectangle and in the center is a nicely landscaped courtyard that can be accessed through the pool area. The outside of the building is nothing special, but it is clean and pleasant overall. The only thing I didn't like about the hotel is that there is a staircase on one end by the lobby and an elevator on the other end, but since the hotel is very long you have to do a lot of walking if you are anywhere in the middle.”

• The grounds were pretty and well maintained.
• The towels were like sandpaper, no exhaust in the bathroom, room adequate, but not special.

“We always try to stay in Courtyard or Residence, but were disappointed in the quality of this particular hotel. It looked like they had purchased a cheaper hotel and put the Marriott name on it. The beds were nice - upgraded, with soft pillows. The towels were like sandpaper. Usual high quality was lacking. Service in the restaurant was terrible.”

• Friendly staff, clean and lovely rooms and
  great breakfast.

“The Courtyard at Marriott in Charlottesville, Virginia is a lovely hotel. It is a few miles outside the historic downtown area, but an easy and quick drive. The rooms are very clean and comfortable. The property is meticulously maintained. There is a lovely indoor pool and Jacuzzi but I did not have my swimsuit! Staff is friendly, helpful and courteous. Totally recommend this place.”

• Very clean, fairly new, spacious rooms.
• Quite far from downtown/university.

“Clean, fairly new hotel (completely non-smoking), off a business strip between airport and university (3 miles away, direct access). I had the smallest available room, but it was plenty large for me. Attractive interior, comfortable bed.”

• Cable TV on each workout machine.
• Exercise room apparently allows kids under 18 un-supervised.

“They ought to think about adding another breakfast option for guests who only get 1 plate of food instead of assuming everyone will load up since you are at a all-you-can-eat buffet that doesn't have too many choices.”

• The cooked to order breakfast was excellent.
• The business center's internet system was not user friendly.

“The hotel was extremely clean. The rooms were quite modern with an excellent desk. The front desk staff, namely, Mr. Wood, was always friendly and helpful.”

• The bed was comfortable.
• The bathroom, I felt was dirty.

“It appeared that they redid the bedroom part of the room but the bathroom appeared to show his age and the bathroom floor was sticky. Also, I got stuck in a handicapped shower and the water went everywhere!”

• Cleanliness - staff was friendly.
• Toilet was basically a hole in the floor - very low for seniors with no handrail.

“Grandparents with 2 small children made the room small. Entering the room, TV remote didn't work, but they fixed it quickly. Biggest & only hassle was the low toilet. Felt like it was 6" above the floor. As seniors, my wife & I had difficulty as there was no hand rail. Staff was very friendly & helpful. Clean throughout.”

• Night Auditor was Sleeping in Chair2 out of 3 nights stay at this hotel was Completely insensitive to being able to answer any questions.

“The Hotel is for the most part an enjoyable place to stay for the money! The Quality of this facility is excellent! I truly look forward to spending time at this facility while working in this area. With the Exception of the Night Auditor I consider the staff to be customer friendly!”

• Room temperature was difficult to moderate.

“The Courtyard is a moderate level hotel, but the staff made me feel like I was at home. The front desk clerk at check-in was very friendly and funny and offered lots of local information in response to my inquiry. When I came down to the cafe a minute or two after "closing" looking for breakfast, the buffet food was dried out but I was still treated to excellent service. Every employee I came across in the halls said "hello".”

• The crispy sheets are over starched and make you itch.

“I been here numerous times and this is the first time I have had real trouble with the starch on the sheets. So much so I curled up in the chair instead, since I was developing a reaction to it. First place I have ever know to use this method to produce crisp light sheets. The Courtyard rooms are nice. The kids there obviously were having a great time though.”

“I expected more from the name Courtyard Marriott. While the furniture was nice, there were very limited decorum. There was no trashcan in the bathroom. The ambience was not up to what the name implies.”

• Nice, relaxed, nice feeling, not hurried, green conscious.
• No WiFi, Ethernet cord provided, is parking lot secure?

“This is my second visit. A larger double room has ample space, very nice decor, work and storage space. Ethernet is available and cord is supplied in room. A 12 check out time can if necessary be extended, latest to 2. Indoor pool and work out room, a lobby both for check in and elongated with gas fireplace in the middle, larger flat screen TV at other and a larger area for seating looks upon the inner courtyard, the business center is a curved open space with several computers available. A very nice space and quiet location but easy access to all of the shopping areas of 29, two blocks from 64 and a quick drive to the University. A great hotel for business and relaxation, for the family, or a romantic night or two. Quieter and more relaxed feel than the Doubletree. My favorite: the lobby area with the gas fireplace as a get away from your room (or kids) to work or just plain relax. Service is great, friendly, and the hotel is environmentally 'green' conscious. Coffee with liquid creamers available 24 hours in the lobby. Breakfast extra but served on location.”

• Lobby area beyond the hotel check in, relaxed atmosphere, very nice feeling to it.
• No map in the booklet and this place needs one, pay extra for breakfast.

“One of my favorites. A very warm relaxed elegant place. While not huge, it has everything you want and need, and a very nice lobby with a gas fireplace, plenty of seating and Christmas tree (it was Christmas time of year). Breakfast is extra. Coffee, tea and liquid creamer available 24 hours. If you are traveling with older kids, you can escape to the lobby for reading, enjoying the fireplace or watching football on the big screen at the other end. Hotel personnel at nice happy and pleasant. In the room a single double bed and a fold out couch were excellent. Room service is provided by a off site location and can be billed to the room. It was fine. You don't have to use the lobby entrance as there are two entrances on each branch. My recommendation was to include a map of the hotel in the book. It has a neat pull out computer table and you have ethernet available, cord supplied in room. Location to University of VA is excellent as well as the shopping areas, RT 29, and 64.”

“Lovely Courtyard Marriot with good access to room and parking. It was well kept, clean, and friendly. I liked it. If others are bouncing balls, or let doors slam, you can hear it. However, at night, it was quiet.”

• It is clean and conveniently located. The staff was very responsive.
• The individual heating units in the room are a bit outdated.

“At first glance it seemed quite far away from the campus and historic Downtown, but the driving to these places takes about 5 10 minutes and there is a wide array of restaurants that are located within 5 min driving of the hotel. The rooms are spacious and clean.”

• Front desk staff was outstanding.
• Somewhat difficult to find location.

“Excellent value and experience with staff and overall quality; facilities were absolutely in line with expectations of a courtyard property but the staff made it one of the best hotels we stayed at. We were greeted promptly, given verbal and written directions to tourist sites locally, and even chatted about what brought us to the hotel on this occasion. The staff could not have been nicer and the experience overall should bump up the star rating to at least a "3" from "2.5".”
