• Easy to find, friendly service and clean rooms.

“This hotel was much nicer than I thought since we had stayed there in the past before they remodeled it. I would recommend this hotel to those who want a quiet family friendly atmosphere.”

• Close to Univ. of VA.
• I have stayed there before, and the service has declined dramatically.

“If you are visiting the University of Virginia, or the Charlottesville area, and want something a little better than a basic motel, this is a good choice. It is relatively close to the University and "The Corner,", has some dining options, although we did not try them, and is clean, although dated. Don't expect much service, though; even checking out took a while to get a clerk's attention.”

• Front desk clerk was wonderful.
• Beds are not comfortable; concierge/valet would not make eye contact, noisy, smokers.

“I was surprised to see this hotel compared to the Double tree on number of stars. The front desk staff is very nice, but other staff ignores you if you say hi. They allow smoking at the lobby door, so I entered to billows of smoke. The walls are thin so you hear everyone in the hall and the traffic sounds like it is in your room. You have to turn the TV up to hear it and the selection of channels (except HBO) was less than an economy motel.”

• Plastic cups instead of glasses.

“Very clean and appealing, after a large-scale renovation just now completed. Claims to be in the University Area--but the University is two miles away! Still, very convenient location coming into Charlottesville from the north. The only lapse in service was that our room was not made up on Christmas day.”

• Location is excellent, close to football stadium at UVA.
• The layout of the rooms. But I would stay again for a football game.

“The hotel was exactly what I expected. We wanted to be close to the stadium and we were. It was relitively clean and location was great. I wouldn't vacation there, but I would stay again for a game. A good value and great location for UVA activities.”

• My hotel room smelled like smoke and the hotel was just too far from the conference center that I was attending.
  

“Economical with friendly staff, otherwise, generally inconvenient. The cleanliness was probably fine, but hard to assess when your hotel room smells like smoke (makes it feel dirtier than it probably was).

“This hotel has major construction going on in the lobby. This I could live with if anything about the hotel said 3-star. It is run down; the staff is not particularly helpful. About the only good thing that could be said is it is relatively clean.”

• Construction detracted from the environment of the facility.

“Nice place that is just a cut above the Days Inn type place. Room was a good size for the two of us and very comfortable. Staff was very attentive. Construction should be done by Oct 08 but I have to say that the construction did not pose any problems for us.”

• Large room with fridge and microwave, WiFi, centrally located to much of C-ville, good shower, friendly staff.
• Under construction, toilet didn't flush right, TV.

“Solid place, decent value. Located near 250 bypass which makes it easy to get to much of C-ville. Friendly staff. Room was clean and comfortable. Had a fridge and microwave which was convenient. Not a mini-fridge either, but a decent not quite full-size fridge with separate freezer. I really liked that saved some cash on meals by eating in and had sodas when I needed them. Lots of shopping very close by, Root 29 is a suburban strip mall for several consecutive miles. Indian restaurant in walking distance was good.”

“Overall, we had a very nice experience. There were a few things that were not right at the beginning, but the hotel staff was very pleasant and accommodating, and fixed everything up quickly. The room was a good size, quiet, comfortable, and recently remodeled. We enjoyed many of the amenities, including room service from the hotel restaurant, the pool and gym, and the business center. The location was ideal, at the intersection of the two main routes through Charlottesville. We were surprised to find construction when we arrived, but although it made navigating the hotel a little confusing, it did not disturb us at all. The only other reservation about it is the limited parking. Although we were able to find a spot every night, if the hotel were booked to capacity (like, on a football weekend, or at graduation), it could be difficult to find a parking space.”

• The room was newly renovated and very clean.
• The lobby was under construction.

“Hotel is undergoing renovation. The room was super. Clean, with nice beds, television and a great bathroom. The staff was super friendly. The lobby was torn up and in a state of confusion, so it created a poor first impression; however, if the lobby remodel is as successful as the room remodel, it will be a great hotel. It's a credit to the Holiday Inn chain.”

• The location was convenient.
• The hotel was undergoing major, noisy reconstruction.

“This Holiday Inn is situated in a convenient location. The staff is friendly, but a good bit uninformed. The room accommodations of the hotel are clean but not noteworthy. The public facilities in the hotel are currently undergoing construction and this, as would be expected for any such major activity, is a bit problematic. This is not a 3-star hotel by any stretch of the imagination. It is a 1-star hotel.”

• No Disney. Remodeling made everything messy and unattractive. Front desk hard to understand in English.

“Was at the edge of town - far from Monticello. First impression bad as there were areas blocked off by construction, leaving a messy and small entry. There was no Disney channel - a big deal for our kids. Front desk staffed by people who did not speak English well. Would not stay here until they finish remodeling.”

“The property is fully under construction. Also, the room was smelly and shabby. When we returned at night there were seedy looking people loitering about the front of the hotel. Not what I was hoping for. We left a night early.”

“The hotel was convenient to shopping and UVA. Rooms were cleaned daily and had plenty of space for myself, husband and two children (9 and 12). Nothing spectacular, but very clean and came complete with microwave and refrigerator. We were somewhat disappointed with the restaurant because it was in a temporary location due to construction. Overall, a very nice experience.”

• Construction going on, not even able to swim without noise.

“May be under normal circumstances this hotel is better quality. It is being remodeled and had no refrigerator or microwave in the room. We had to wait until the next morning to get one (they had to find one, and we were told that we would be moved if they didn't). When we tried to swim, the jackhammer constantly remodeled upstairs. Ceilings, windows, etc. needed a good cleaning.”

• The room service manage was very nice.
• Nearly everything else. Staff, rooms, beds etc.

“This hotel is nowhere near 3 star quality as claimed. Firstly it is under construction, but despite that it has many other downfalls. There are prominent signs reminding you to lock up your valuables and car. The desk staff was unfriendly and the manager even more so when we complained about the construction, and the construction crews ogling my wife. It is an older hotel that has been renovated, but they skipped parts of the renovation so some things like the sinks in the bathrooms and the balconies appear old and run down. The beds were hard and the blankets were of the quality that I would only expect in a lower end hotel. The one good thing I could say about the hotel is the room service food was good and the room service staff was quite friendly. Overall I would not recommend this hotel if your expectations are 3 stars.”
