“I cannot believe anyone would rate this hotel above a 4. My stay was awful. Upon arrival we checked in to learn that there was not room available. We continued to ask for the room in the Sand Dunes, but "all rooms were occupied" even though the vacancy light was on outside. When speaking with management, she was rude and hateful. Not professional at all. When I asked how I could contact the person she reports to she laughed and rolled her eyes. I managed to speak with her boss, who after another day found a room for us at Sand Dunes. When checking out they tried to overcharge us $300. We fought until that was taken care of. They tried to overcharge three more of the five groups we were with. Also, when I was having rounds with management, three other couples were asking for managers at the same time, because their rooms had miraculously disappeared. This was the worst hotel experience I have ever had. I will never go back and recommend that no visitors traveling to Myrtle Beach stay at this location. You will receive better room quality and just sleeping in your car.” Jun 8, 2008 by

“Sauna, Jacuzzi and inside pool we found out on the last day when we were leaving.” Oct 18, 2006 by
Allan P. from Charlotte, NC
“For my own opinion, this hotel does not belong to a 2 1/2 star rating. This is an old building that was renovated but the renovation was not done completely. The paint on the elevators are rusting and fading. Carpets in the room were not that clean. The design of the room is an old motor type hotel. Doors won't close on its own, you will have to push it all the way to close it. Iron board were just standing in the closet and could be harmful to kids playing inside the room. There is no internet access in the room. We have to go to the lobby to connect to the internet.” Aug 24, 2006 by
Jennifer from Sumter, SC
“Very nice hotel, good variety of things to do. however the main entrance for checking in is at the back and its very congested where you pull up to the entrance.” Aug 24, 2006 by

“This was our second stay at a Sands hotel in MB. We were very excited upon arrival over the large room/condo with the great view. However, we became quickly disappointed. My mother, who is disabled, rented a scooter for the trip which was delivered to the hotel prior to our arrival. I notified the hotel 3 days before arriving that the scooter would be delivered and needed when my mother arrived. I also arranged (I thought) for her to check-in prior to our arrival, because she flew down and we drove. Upon her arrival at the hotel they could not find her scooter, insisted it wasn't delivered and then refused to let her check in because the bill wasn't PIF and she didn't have a CC to pay for it. Why didn't someone tell us that when I called. I called from the road and fixed that problem but she still had to make her way to the room in a separate building without her scooter! I found it later that evening behind the concierge desk. If someone had only looked! During our stay housekeeping failed to show twice. On other days they were cleaning our room when we returned to shower and dress for dinner at 6pm. The one day they came early they banged on the closed bedroom door awaking my napping 2yr old. The final straw was when my 5 year old daughter awoke to a flooded bathroom floor in her bedroom. I turned off the water and threw down every towel I could find. I called maintenance who arrived with a plunger, announced the tank was cracked ( I hadn't noticed in the rush of things) and left. I cleaned up the floor and used my own beach towels to try to get the water out of the carpet. At some point while we were out they wet-vac'd the carpet but it remained wet for the rest of our trip. They finally fixed the toilet at 9:30PM preventing me from putting my daughter to bed (lucky she wasn't already in there!) and when they left, they left a trail of muddy boot prints throughout the space. Now here is the best part -- They charged us for the toilet!!! Despite my efforts to resolve this disputed charge, I cannot get a call back from the hotel manager so I am left to dispute it through the CC company. It's too bad because we would have returned, despite the housekeeping problems, because the pool, water park and beach access were great and the location is good too, but they haven't shown that they value our business. ” 1 of 2 people found this review helpful.Aug 19, 2006 by

“Not a bad place to stay for the price. Definitely a Kid's paradise. The water park was great and when traveling with kids, that makes it worth it. Staff not very knowledgeable, or helpful. I needed medical attention, and they couldn't even tell me where the nearest pharmacy was, or their phone number. After our room was cleaned, there would be black hairs all over the bathroom counters, and in the toilet. YUCK! And don't stay out late. You won't get a park in the garage. Twice I had to park next door at Ocean Dunes. Not very convenient. But we had a great time, and would stay there again next year. ” Jun 2, 2006 by

“This hotel has undergone a change in management and employees. I was uncertain about it reading other reviews but all of it was untrue for us on a five day stay. We even got a call from management the first night to see if things were ok. I left four antique diamond rings on the bathroom counter by mistake two days in a row and they were always where I left them. I love the shops and the pools. The view and location are great. Did not see any bugs! Room was cleaned daily to perfection. I will definitely go there again! Just remember when you book on this site that you cannot make any changes in plans and the money is nonrefundable. With that said I would still go back there every trip.” 1 of 1 people found this review helpful.Apr 14, 2006 by

“We were traveling to Orlando and thought a quick stop in Myrtle Beach would be nice. We only needed this room for two nights. While at the hotel the stay was pleasant. The room appeared to have been remodeled. Our ocean view room was nice, especially considering the good price. The only real negative was the wind blowing through the door. We had to put a towel at the top and bottom of the door. Without the towels we would have never been able to sleep over the howling wind. The door could use some weather stripping. Also, parking can be a bit overwhelming if traveling with children. The first night the lot designated for the Sand Dunes was completely full. We had to park in the lot designated for the Ocean Dunes which made the trip to the room even further. Luckily, the hotel provides parking right in front of the hotel for loading and unloading luggage. There seemed to be plenty of teenagers walking around unattended. Most were well behaved, while others were loud. We would definitely recommend this hotel to family and friends.” Apr 13, 2006 by
Roxanne from Columbia, SC
“Parking was inconvenient for the building we were staying. Bell hop did not offer to help with luggage, although it was just my daughter and myself (two females).” Apr 13, 2006 by
Lori from Raleigh, NC
“My room was off from the main hallway and as a single woman, felt a little unsafe. Restaurant/Bar was busy and I left after waiting 10 minutes without being acknowledged in any way.” Apr 6, 2006 by
Monica from Lawrenceville, GA
“I think the hotel (building and furnishings) met my expectations for the rating. I was very disappointed with housekeeping. I had to clean the tub myself when I first arrived. The next day, the tubs, floors, sinks, counters, and toilets were not cleaned. Towels and toiletries were not adequately replaced. I thought the hotel staff could have done better job in terms of attitude and presentation.” Mar 21, 2006 by
Marion from Tuscaloosa, AL
“If I travel to Myrtle beach again, this hotel would be my first choice.” 1 of 1 people found this review helpful.Mar 2, 2006 by

“The hotel was in a nice location, close to North Myrtle Beach, Barefoot Landing, Myrtle Beach, Broadway at the Beach and shopping areas. This hotel would be an excellent place to take our kids once the weather gets warmer. They would have a blast at the small water park and lazy river pools they have onsite.” Feb 23, 2006 by
Mike from Great Falls, SC
“Beautiful views. Friendly staff.” Feb 21, 2006 by
Terrell from Richland, WA
“The hotel had an excellent location on the beach. The rooms were spacious and clean and the service was excellent.” Feb 16, 2006 by
Janet from Hiddenite, NC
“The Jacuzzi in our building was out of order and had to go outside to other building to swim. Lots of drinking and bad language allowed in lobby and room beside us. Alcohol stains in our room fridge. Maid said she could not get it out. The smell was bad so I cleaned it out. Then that night loud, rude people scared out daughters to tears so we asked to be moved. Manager did not acknowledge my presence when I explained to him why the operator suggested we move to the other room. Not at all "Family Friendly".” Jan 19, 2006 by
Barbara from Wilmington, NC
“After staying at the Sheraton in Myrtle Beach our last visit, we were very displeased with the Sand Dunes. Also, the rooms this time of the year are very inexpensive. I think we could have made a better choice.” Jan 6, 2006 by
Amanda from Blountville, TN
“This hotel was great. The views were incredible and the hotel was extra clean. We were upset about an extra charge to our bill for our stay.” Jan 5, 2006 by
Terri from Laurinburg, NC
“Overall good location, nice view, convenient to facilities and restaurants and shops.” Jan 2, 2006 by
Gloria from Trotwood, OH
“When I arrived I did not receive the hotel room which I had booked. I was suppose to receive a suite and received a one bedroom with 2 double beds this was very disappointing because I had a young child traveling with and a room with a separated sleeping area would have made my stay more pleasant. ” Dec 2, 2005 by
Gary from Charleston, SC
“If this hotel was completely remodeled it would be a nice place to stay. The room was rundown, and were put on a floor where they were remodeling.” Dec 1, 2005 by
Bill from Columbus, IN
“In poor repair. They are doing some work. Hammering started early (before 8 am) and continued late (after 9 pm). There was a lot of mold in the hotel. They tried to charge me additional taxes when I checked-in. They then said that it was for fees (phone and safe). ” 2 of 2 people found this review helpful.Dec 1, 2005 by

“Fine for what I needed.” Nov 14, 2005 by
Kathryn from Atlanta, GA
“Bathrooms are clean. The in room safe is a nice ammenity since a lap top will fit inside. Closets have double doors that open, so it is easy to access clothing and articles inside. There could be a better set up for using lap top computers for either business or pleasure.” Oct 26, 2005 by
Wanda from Richmond, VA
“It was a joke. Worst hotel I have ever been in.” 0 of 2 people found this review helpful.Oct 26, 2005 by

“Excellent view of ocean. Disappointed in our smoking room when confirmed with hotel to receive non smoking room although this is the cleanest smelling smoking room ever been in.” Oct 13, 2005 by
John from Greer, SC
“I wasn't expecting a resort atmosphere but I felt better leaving the property for food and drinks.” Oct 5, 2005 by
Craig from Matthews, NC
“Overall, this hotel was a good value for the money. The room was small and not in the best shape, but for the price it was perfectly acceptable. ” Oct 5, 2005 by
Christine from Heath, OH
“The hotel was older, the food was alright, they had big nasty bugs that were in the hallways, the parking garage and eventually came into the room. They never seemed to vacuum the carpets and the water park was very child friendly.” Oct 3, 2005 by
Shawn from Suwanee, GA
“I would also like to mention that finding roaches in middle of the night is not what I would expect from a three star hotel.” Sep 29, 2005 by
Wade from Charlotte, NC
“Rode into town on the MS 150, so I was looking for a comfortable, clean place to relax. This place was it! The room was clean and comfortable, the view was amazing, and the lazy river was just what I needed. It's also close (within a few miles) of some very good restaurants. We went to Jimmy Buffet's place, and it was awesome.” Sep 22, 2005 by
Linda from Sevierville, TN
“Overall it was a nice hotel, it was a good three star hotel.” Sep 21, 2005 by
Jamie from Canton, OH
“The Sand Dunes Resort is in a great location on the beach and offers guests a wonderful water park, though it is only open on weekends later in the season. The indoor pool and outdoor pool near the beach are not heated and need maintenance, as does the lazy river out back. There is no outdoor hot tub, and of the two indoor hot tubs, only one is kept hot.” Sep 19, 2005 by
John from Charlotte, NC
“The lady at the check in was pretty unfriendly. The hotel needed some renovation. My wife had called the morning of our check out to see if we can check out one hour late, the check out staff said no, in a very rude tone then hung up the phone. The lazy river was very dirty and the new water park they had just built didn't open on weekdays, so it's useless for the weekday travelers. I wouldn't go back there again.” Sep 13, 2005 by
Mike from Uniontown, OH
“3 stars, NO WAY!. I have stayed in single star hotels that are much better and cleaner then here. If you chose to stay here, make sure you call the Hotel and insist on a recently renovated room. If they can't do this cancel and book somewhere else. ” Sep 13, 2005 by
Glenn from Aspinwall, PA
“A true dump and rated 3-star no less! I'll never stay here again.” Sep 8, 2005 by
Trisha from Hampstead, NC
“Pretty nice place with good accommadations! Great for families. It is a 3 star for Myrtle Beach.” Aug 31, 2005 by
Neung G. from Albany, CA
“(1) The old building and the new one are totally different. My first night in the old building was terrible. (2) Generally speaking, staffs of front desk were unkind. They should know that customers must be always treated as a king.” Aug 31, 2005 by
Houry from Manassas, VA
“This was the worst hotel we've stayed in. It was DIRTY!!!Blood in elevators for our 1st 24 hrs, mold in the rooms, roaches in hallways, broken furniture, dirty sheets...We did not want to go to our room to relax.” Aug 25, 2005 by
Tanaz from Raleigh, NC
“great place and we had a great view in our room. service was not good. they were people that were given rooms that were already occupied. but overall not bad. we had a great time.” Aug 18, 2005 by
William G. from Hopkins, SC
“Excellent hotel, ocean front with incredible views. The pools were in great shape and well maintained. The water park was way too crowded for me, but others seemed to enjoy them. I would recommended this hotel to my friends” Aug 4, 2005 by
Lawrence from Wilmington, NC
“This was not a 3-star hotel as chosen.” Jul 27, 2005 by

“The hotel room did not easily accommodate using a lap top computer. There should at least be telephone sets with data ports.” Mar 2, 2005 by
Lisa from Richlands, NC
“The Sand Dunes Resort was not what my family and I expected for the price, it was much better! The parking garage was nice to keep our car out of the weather.Upon arrival check in was very fast, convenient and friendly. Our room was clean and very comfortable. We enjoyed the indoor pool and hot tubs as the weather did not permit us to use the outdoor pool. We would definately return in the warmer weather to enjoy the outdoor pool. We enjoyed that there was a restaraunt in the hotel and it was open very late. The location couldn't of been better for attractions and shopping. We were within minutes of everything we'd come to see. Thank you Sand Dunes Resort for giving us such a pleasurable stay in Myrtle Beach!” Feb 26, 2005 by
Jim from Fayetteville, NC
“Very good price for our 2-night stay I think they are working on up-dating as the workers woke us up at 0710am refribing the floors above and below us. Really didn"t loose that much sleep.” Feb 23, 2005 by
Susan from Apex, NC
“We were only there for 1 night and it served its purpose--a place to sleep. since it's Feb., not a good time to judge the facilities.”
