• The rooms had been updated and were very nice.
• Prices in the bar were too high.

“We are pleasure travelers and do not travel more than 3 times a year. The hotel staff we encountered was some of the best we have ever had. So friendly and very accommodating. Would definitely recommend this hotel to a friend.”

• The room was very inviting. I could also hook my I-Pod up to the television and enjoy my music.
• The fact that I tell the bellhop that I don't need help and he insists that he "lend a hand."

“The hotel is very nice and very accommodating. I appreciate the opportunity to stay there every now and then because my wedding reception was held there and it brings back great memories!”

• The hotel is fairly convenient for access to Duke University.
• My room had apparently just been refurbished; because I was short some necessities.

“This hotel, located in Downtown Durham, is pretty much what you'd expect of a Marriott. It's nice, but the parking is across the street and not covered. I think my stay was anomalous, as I checked in late at night and got a room that was disability-friendly, which had apparently just been redone, since the fold-down seat in the shower still had a new tag on it. It's a pretty nice place but not in a very interesting area, as Downtown Durham is dead at night.”

• Nothing. Loved everything!

“This Marriott exceeded our expectations. The rooms are newly renovated and were very clean. The staff was exceptional and extremely friendly from the minute we arrived. What a fantastic place to stay! We recommend it highly.”

“Hotel itself was lovely but location in center of Durham not so great for me as a single woman traveling alone. Also, a hassle getting in and out of the city.”

• The hotel was very attractive with great amenities. It was also conveniently located. It also had a great restaurant.
• The hotel does not have adequate parking. I am disabled and would have had to park a distance from the hotel if I had not chosen valet parking.

“The Durham Marriot is a wonderful place to stay while traveling for business or pleasure. I would recommend this hotel to folks visiting the Durham area.”

• It was convenient to my needs and the staff was very helpful.
• There wasn't much to do in the vicinity of the hotel.

“This hotel is as far as I know the only one in Downtown Durham, because I required lodging close to the Downtown area, this was an obvious choice. During my stay there was ongoing construction in the hotel. This affected me little, their guest laundry facilities were temporarily closed. The extremely helpful staff offered to drive me to the closest Laundromat.”

• The guy at the front desk.

“The hotel was really nice, not that crowded and you get free wireless internet service. The room was clean. However, the guy at the front desk gave us a double saying they were out of all king size bed guestrooms when I requested for a king size bed. Knowing the hotel was not fully booked it was near empty), it really pissed me off. Staying at a double bed guestroom with my girlfriend was not pleasant at all. The room was on the second floor right next to the fitness gym, great. I believe the guy intentionally did that to screw me. So be careful when requesting for a room. all the other staffs were friendly.”

• Streets around hotel are empty on weekends. No people.

“The staff at this hotel was extremely friendly and helpful. The lobby and bar/restaurant areas were comfortable. Next to beautiful movie/concert theater. Great business hotel. On weekends, downtown area is deserted.”

• The staff was incredibly friendly and helpful.
• Construction woke me up.

“The hotel was clean and well-kept and the staff was great. This was the most positive hotel experience I've had with a staff. I took advantage of the free local shuttle, and all of the shuttle drivers were extremely accommodating and hospitable. There was some construction for renovations that woke me very early in the morning.”

• Hotel was up-scale in all respects and the price was right.
• The TV did not work in our room. We arrived at 11PM and wanted to relax and watch TV but couldn't.

“Comfortable, clean, well located with a very useful shuttle service within 5 miles from the hotel. High speed internet, cable TV, and a business office available 24h/day make the stay comfortable for each type of traveler.”

“Very dated rooms that did not smell great. Very nice staff. We were told that they were redoing them. We enjoyed using the YMCA and going to the Carolina theater, which was attached.”

• Location wasn't the best, but still liked the hotel, it was a police chase right in front while we were there.

• The privacy.
• We could not smoke, we didn't know that until we checked in.

“We liked the hotel, the only thing about it was that we couldn't smoke nowhere in the hotel. We had to go outside in the cold and if we knew that before we booked the room, we wouldn't have booked that hotel. It was a very bad incontinence having to go back and forth from the 6th floor, but other than that, we had a nice time.”

• The room was very clean & nice, and I like the shampoo.
• When checking out, it was difficult to get the worker's attention at the desk.

“The Marriott Civic Center is one of the few excellent hotels in the area. The location is very convenient to several locations in Durham (Duke University, Downtown Durham, Washington Duke Golf Club), and the city has recently finished a lot of construction in the downtown area. Parking is slightly inconvenient, but I would stay here again in a heartbeat.”

• Common areas were very clean and being in a unfamiliar city security and safety were never an issue.
• Being from out of town the one way streets may it difficult to get to the hotel, not enough parking spaces.

• The free parking and some of the friendly front desk staff.
• The housekeeping staff, the food at the restaurants were not up to par.

“The carpet had huge humps and lumps in it that extended to the hall and no one did anything about it. The house keeping staff did not do their best. The food at the restaurant was too salty and there were flies in dinning room (one flew in my soup). The dinning room staff was great.”

• My room was too far for me-handicapped.

“Very nice, but my room was too far from the elevator especially since I am physically handicapped and have to use a walker to get around. Please do not do this to another handicapped person. The hotel was very clean and lovely. The rooms were exceptional and even had "handicapped bars" in the bathroom-that was most helpful and wonderful to see as I rate hotels regarding how they prepare for handicapped persons.”

“As a business traveler, I was very pleased with this hotel. The staff was very friendly and helpful. Free parking across street valet. I elected to park myself and to my surprise the bellman drove the hotel golf cart to my car and helped me with luggage and gave me a ride back to hotel. Free shuttle to nearby attractions was helpful. Nice flat screen LCD's in bedroom, very comfortable beds /linens, decent workout room. Would stay there again.”

• Small bathroom with no counter space, parking is off site, restaurant wait staff friendly but not very polished, shouldn't allow cells in restaurant.

• Downtown Durham is grungy.

“Nice hotel. Clean facilities. Pleasant and helpful staff. Use of pool at yucca across the street. Free, easily accessible parking. Can valet for $10 if desired. Bed/bedding was comfortable and upscale. Otherwise furnishings were standard mid-range hotel fare.”

• I was there to visit Duke University and it was perfectly located near the University. I would definitely use this hotel.
• I would have liked to have a pool located on premises. I was not crazy about how far the parking lot was from the hotel.

“The hotel was perfect for my purpose. I had gone there to visit Duke University and it was literally down the road for the college. The staff was friendly and accommodating. I requested an extended check out time and was given so without hesitation. I would have liked to have a microwave and refrigerator in the room, but other than that, it was a great place to stay.”
