• TV technology was very well done.
• They were remodeling and the noise from above room.

• Inviting, warm, friendly, met our needs, restaurant on premises, very pleased.
• Location wasn't the best, but still liked the hotel, it was a police chase right in front while we were there.

• The privacy.
• We could not smoke, we didn't know that until we checked in.

“We liked the hotel, the only thing about it was that we couldn't smoke nowhere in the hotel. We had to go outside in the cold and if we knew that before we booked the room, we wouldn't have booked that hotel. It was a very bad incontinence having to go back and forth from the 6th floor, but other than that, we had a nice time.”

• Convenient to duke university, offers shuttle service.
• Free coffee was offered in the pm, but not in the am food at takeout bar overpriced and not so great.

• The room was very clean & nice, and I like the shampoo.
• When checking out, it was difficult to get the worker's attention at the desk.

“The Marriott Civic Center is one of the few excellent hotels in the area. The location is very convenient to several locations in Durham (Duke University, Downtown Durham, Washington Duke Golf Club), and the city has recently finished a lot of construction in the downtown area. Parking is slightly inconvenient, but I would stay here again in a heartbeat.”

• Person at the desk could not have been more helpful. He is definitely a huge asset to that hotel.

• It seems to be old and not much renovation has been done.

• Common areas were very clean and being in a unfamiliar city security and safety were never an issue.
• Being from out of town the one way streets may it difficult to get to the hotel, not enough parking spaces.

• The free parking and some of the friendly front desk staff.
• The housekeeping staff, the food at the restaurants were not up to par.

“The carpet had huge humps and lumps in it that extended to the hall and no one did anything about it. The house keeping staff did not do their best. The food at the restaurant was too salty and there were flies in dinning room (one flew in my soup). The dinning room staff was great.”

• My room was too far for me-handicapped.

“Very nice, but my room was too far from the elevator especially since I am physically handicapped and have to use a walker to get around. Please do not do this to another handicapped person. The hotel was very clean and lovely. The rooms were exceptional and even had "handicapped bars" in the bathroom-that was most helpful and wonderful to see as I rate hotels regarding how they prepare for handicapped persons.”

“As a business traveler, I was very pleased with this hotel. The staff was very friendly and helpful. Free parking across street valet. I elected to park myself and to my surprise the bellman drove the hotel golf cart to my car and helped me with luggage and gave me a ride back to hotel. Free shuttle to nearby attractions was helpful. Nice flat screen LCD's in bedroom, very comfortable beds /linens, decent workout room. Would stay there again.”

• Small bathroom with no counter space, parking is off site, restaurant wait staff friendly but not very polished, shouldn't allow cells in restaurant.

• Great, helpful staff. Free printing of boarding passes in biz center.
• Downtown Durham is grungy.

“Nice hotel. Clean facilities. Pleasant and helpful staff. Use of pool at yucca across the street. Free, easily accessible parking. Can valet for $10 if desired. Bed/bedding was comfortable and upscale. Otherwise furnishings were standard mid-range hotel fare.”

• I was there to visit Duke University and it was perfectly located near the University. I would definitely use this hotel.
• I would have liked to have a pool located on premises. I was not crazy about how far the parking lot was from the hotel.

“The hotel was perfect for my purpose. I had gone there to visit Duke University and it was literally down the road for the college. The staff was friendly and accommodating. I requested an extended check out time and was given so without hesitation. I would have liked to have a microwave and refrigerator in the room, but other than that, it was a great place to stay.”

• No pool in hotel. Pool is available at nearby YMCA.

“Very nice hotel. The only concern is parking. Parking is available across a small lot and an alley. A little safety concern when walking to the parking at night.”

• The beds are luxurious! Didn't want to leave. Ever!
• Self - parking is very limited and "slightly" offsite across street.

“Very friendly and attentive staff. Did not dine in restaurant. Only had room service which was excellent. I've stayed here 3 times in the last 60 days and would highly recommend it. Best features: all non-smoking hotel and wonderful, wonderful beds and pillows.”

• The front desk and bell hop staff were very friendly and helpful.
• Having to park a block away is very inconvenient.

“The rooms are nice except it is hard to regulate the temperature in the room. It is impossible to get the room cooled down. The staff is accommodating and friendly.”

• The bed was extremely comfortable and I felt much rested the following morning. Free parking was a great plus.
• The downtown Durham area streets are under construction and rough on a car.

“The hotel is warm, inviting, quiet, and an excellent location for business or leisure travel. The staff ensured that my stay was pleasant. I had no complaints at all.”

• Spacious and clean.
• Motorcycle "bikers" checked in on Friday and were loud and obnoxious throughout Friday and Saturday nights. Sleep was impossible!

“The hotel was fine, although a bit difficult to get to and parking is an issue unless you use valet. The biker group ruined the stay for us. I got very little sleep as this group was screaming in the halls and slamming doors to as late as 4:00 am. Several calls were made to the front desk, but no remedy. Very disappointing!”

• Located in a very bleak downtown section of Durham.

“Was welcomed by an exceptionally friendly valet by the Name of Raymond who went out of his way to make me feel welcome. Front desk staff also efficient and friendly. Hotel is warm and clean. Rooms in excellent shape. Business center positioned well and easy to access.”

• Difficult to access, bathroom not so clean, lobby.

“Overall, I was impressed. The room was nice, bed comfortable, and shower pleasant. However, it was difficult to get to, parking lot was distanced from hotel, lobby was crowded, and construction began at 7:00 am. It¿s easy to pick out bad things when I was overall so pleased with my stay there. I would certainly go back as the staff were extremely friendly and helpful even at 11:30 pm.”
