• It had a comfortable bed.
• Bathroom ceiling tiles were falling apart.

“The room itself was nice, but the bathroom was not so great. The ceiling tiles were falling apart and some appeared to be water damaged. The curtains were quite thin, and so I was unable to darken out the incredibly bright street light which was outside my window. There was a shady looking convenience store across the street with bars on the windows that stayed open until 2 am. The vibration of the air conditioner was quite loud. The lobby was very nice; it had a fun sports theme. The restaurants looked very nice but I did not use them. The staff was very kind and incredibly helpful. The night watchman gave me directions when the ones I was given failed to take me to the hotel.”

• Nice bed.
• Messy corridor balconies, congested parking lot.

“Well located for car traveler, convenient to downtown Chapel Hill, beds were comfortable. It doesn't have much to recommend it as better than the 2 star choices on Priceline, which doesn't mean it's bad, just means you should pick the 2 star and save some money.”

• The room had been recently redecorated, albeit the bathroom, updated, still was mostly the original fixtures.
• I did not like that the WiFi was weak and not always picked up by my computer.

“The Holiday Inn is located in the beautiful wooded Chapel Hill area with good stores and restaurants just across the street. It is easily accessible to I 40, the Triangle Research area and an upscale mall. The hotel itself is well maintained and snuggled into a wooded area just off the main road. However, I do suggest eating breakfast across the street at Bruegger's or elsewhere rather than trying the hotel's breakfast bar.”

“Good location, but badly needs updating. Too many people smoking on sidewalks and near pool. Ashes and cigarette butts around, didn't seem clean.”

• The rooms, the bathroom, nice pool, free internet.
• Location, some shady guests, looked like day laborers.

“Well equipped room, nice comfy bed, good shower, free internet. The sports bar in the facilities was well stocked and very nice. The lobby was decorated with UNC Tar heels themed items. The pool area was well kept with gazebos and rocking chairs. A positive experience overall.”

“A bit rundown, expected more. Tried 3 rooms. 2 smelled, and the one we ended up with had a window that was off-track and wouldn't really close. Also the cable in each room had problems.”

“A very clean, comfortable room. Very pleasant staff. Very convenient location, near highways and shopping. The only thing that I did not like is the outside entrance to the room (motel style). I would definitely stay there again.”

• Loved the fact that hotel is pet friendly--wish more hotels would be pet friendly as well.
• Hotel stay was marred by occurrence of a very heavy picture on our room wall which fell down injuring my knee.

“The Chapel Hill Holiday Inn is located right in the center of town, accessible to all of Chapel Hill. I especially appreciated that the hotel is dog-friendly and wish more hotels would be also. Staff at the hotel were friendly and accommodating. Room was clean and bright. Except for the fact that a very heavy picture on our room wall fell down injuring my knee, the hotel met all our expectations for the five days we spent there.”

• Easy to find, internet access in room.
• It's a motel, and not very close to UNCC.

“This Holiday Inn is an older motel, with older beds and TVs. The room never got really warm at night, and they did not have blankets in the room. For the money it was ok, but I would not stay there again.”

• Safety concern; front door locked; scary liquor store nearby; original room couldn't be unlocked.

“I would not recommend this hotel for concerns of safety. Even their front main entrance door is locked and requires buzzer for entry. Their is a scary looking liquor store right across an alley. The original room I was given was locked and could not be opened so they ultimately gave me another room. But it was scary to be there by myself at night. I did not feel safe. Also, the rooms themselves have window/glass front adjacent to the room door with only a light white/semi-transparent curtains so you feel like people can look in. Also, all night I felt like I heard sounds at the door. I would not recommend this hotel. The staff concierge was really nice however.”

• Doesn't have an elevator to get your luggage up to 2nd floor.

“This hotel was an older hotel but very quaint. The hotel was clean and the staff was very friendly. Pat at the front desk always gave us good advice on things to see in the area. The Time Out Restaurant was really good and they had a breakfast buffet that was excellent. We ate at the bar for dinner several times during our stay and the food was always good and the price was very reasonable. Really enjoyed the atmosphere at this hotel it was very nice. It is not luxurious but it is a great place to stay if you want to be comfortable for an extended stay, or just a couple nights.”

• The room was very small for the price of this hotel.

“This hotel is very close to UNC and the sports theme is fun. The staff is great. However, the rooms are much smaller than any I have stayed in for the same money.”

• Excellent front office staff, a place that seems to 'get it.
• A bit aged. Noisy old HVAC, hole in wall behind door, buggy TV, broken coffee pot.

“Extremely convenient, price friendly and well staffed, the Holiday Inn UNC is terrific bang for the buck. The hotel, while showing its years within the rooms, goes out of its way to make travelers feel at home. A cute sports theme, non gratis midday activities, and free shuttles to area hospitals combine to make this a nice stop.”

• Hotel room opened to outside. No breakfast offered.

“The lady was rude when I got there, granted it was late. Around 10:30 p.m. or so. And it was freezing and she just handed me a piece of paper that had my room number circled on it and told me to drive around back. She didn't even ask me if I had any questions or anything. Then I got back in my car, drove around and tried to find my room, which was clean but not very inviting. I won't be going back for sure.”

“This one did not come close. I was extremely disappointed and would have changed hotels except that I had already paid the full charge. I often travel alone and for periods of 1-6 weeks. I need to know what I can expect in terms of safety, cleanliness, and environment, atmosphere before I arrive and make a financial commitment that I cannot change.”

• Well decorated bedroom with excellent quality bed.
• The food at the sports bar (not under holiday mgt was bad.

“This is a comfortable, clean, moderately upscale inn. The bedroom was well decorated with an excellent bed. It had a desk with a large work area. The bathroom was large and very clean. The desk clerks were very helpful and polite. We can recommend this inn for the 2 1/2 star customers.”

• No good restaurants, they lost my reservation, beds were not comfy.

“This hotel is ok. Nothing special. I did not go to the pool or any restaurants on site. The room was fairly clean, but the staff didnt clean until late in the afternoon, sometimes. The beds were hard and I like softer beds. The shower leaked all over.”

• Horrible! Old, run down, A/C didn't work, rude staff. A true nightmare!

“An absolutely horrible experience. It was an old dingy property that hadn't been updated in decades. The A/C didn't work in the room, and when I told the front desk they said, Isn't there a fan in the room? A fan? The bathroom was dimly lit and had a ceiling about 5'9 tall. It had exterior corridors, and my family and I certainly didn't feel safe.”

“The hotel is in a convenient location in chapel hill, about 5 to 10 minutes drive to the campus and Franklin street. Its really an old style "motel", but has updated amenities and a very friendly staff.”

• The check out time was at a very excellent time and the staff make sure the rooms was clean each day.
• Parking was very tight.

“The hotel is very clean and gear toward the family. The location is excellent although it is near a busy intersection. Other than this this is a very good hotel and I would recommend my family and friends.”

“Staff excellent, very clean room; I am a Carolina fan so I loved the theme. Overall one of the nicest places I've stayed compared to the prices of the room. You get what you pay for and by far it was highly over succeeded in that aspect. I would recommend this hotel to any one.”

“The staff at this hotel were very helpful, efficient, and friendly. The room was clean - although a bit dated - and very comfortable. The presence of a small refrigerator and microwave, in addition to the more usual coffee maker, made staying for several days more convenient. The location is great for working in Chapel Hill.”

• The grooming area and toilet/shower area were not separate.

“I hated the 'over-the-top' sports theme in the lobby. The continual baseball play-by-play broadcast 'screeching' from the loud speakers in the entry was silly. I think the hotel could use a little updating. Unless you are at Disneyworld, the theme idea is an old one.”

“This is not a 2 1/2 star property! It's a motel, not hotel! I didn't feel safe since the rooms are "outdoor accessible" style. The rooms/linens were smelly, the decor seemed old and out outdated. Very disappointed in judgment to list as 2 1/2 stars.”

• The staff was really helpful and friendly.
• The rooms were small, and we had to change rooms because of noise and smoke.

“The staff was really helpful and patient at this hotel. Which was a good thing? The first room we were in was next to one with barking dogs in it! They moved us promptly. The second room reeked of smoke. They moved us again. Happily, that one was clean and quiet and we had a really nice remainder of our stay after that inauspicious start. Rooms are small, but clean and comfortable. Location is reasonably convenient and staff is very nice.”
