• Clean and comfortable, very convenient to locations downtown.
• No fridge in room after waiting 30 minutes for the valet to retrieve my car when checked out, had to get my keys back and walk to get my car.

“Excellent location. Very friendly staff, even the valet though shorthanded. Small room, but well maintained. Enjoyed the stay and would return.”

• The decorations and cleanliness were top notch.
• Had to pay extra for parking.

“This is a really nice hotel. You will feel like you are in the past with the interior and the decorum. Hotel room was nice. The bathrooms were nice, albeit a bit small. Staff was great. Centrally located. So be prepared for that. Would stay again.”

“We arrived at 11:30 AM fully expecting not to be able to get into a room yet, but desk was very accommodating and had us in a room within 2 minutes of walking in the door! Service was outstanding. Location was tremendous.”

• Great location as could walk to everything and leave car in lot.
• Rooms for a family of 5 were a bit on the small side but still comfortable.

“We absolutely loved this hotel. It is in a great location with so much to do that we will need to go back for another vacation. The food was delicious but pricey. The service was great but not too pretentious. It is a great place to relax after a long day of sightseeing with plenty of outdoor lounging areas and a very nice outdoor pool. One thing that would be better is the parking situation. There should be a flat one day rate for hotel guests. If you come and go from the parking garage you have to pay each time which can really add up.”

• Bathroom was not as updated or clean as the room was.

“For sightseeing you can't beat the location - ambiance lends itself to old Charleston historical feeling. All staff was very helpful and friendly.”

• The restaurants food was quite bad.

“For the price and location the room was great. There was mildew in our bathroom and paint was peeling. The quality of the restaurants food is poor, cheap coffee no cream, the food was overly salted and blended.”

• Excellent location. Clean, attractive rooms. Good service.
• Parking is expensive. Valet service can be slow at times.

“Excellent location for parking the car and walking through history (though parking is expensive). Accommodation were quite satisfactory and the staff was attentive and friendly. Tastefully decorated and close to many excellent restaurants, sights and shopping experiences. I would certainly recommend Mills House to others.”

• The historical value, the location, atmosphere, enjoyed our stay very much.
• Customers having to pay such expensive parking prices.

“I would stay in this motel again, and would also recommend this to my family and friends. We, especially, liked being in the middle of most things and easy access to most everything we wanted to do. Thank you for such a nice couple days.”

• Oceanfront and close to attraction.
• No HBO, water in floor due to leaking air conditioning unit, stopped up bath tub, and broken door handle on balcony door.

“The location of this hotel is perfect for views and easy access to downtown Charleston. The hotel on the other hand had no HBO. The bath tub would not drain the water quickly. The balcony door handle was very loose so it wouldn't lock. The balcony door also had a gapping hole at one end which allow air in for the outside. Also the air conditioning leaked into the floor and made the carpet soaked. Also a very weak internet reception in the room.”

• The bell boys went above and beyond to make us feel welcome.
• We found out on a tour that the hotel is built on a Quaker grave yard, scary!

• The right size, well appointed, excellent staff, great location.
• Parking valet did say to call ahead 15 minutes. Had to leave car at entrance because all valets were busy.

• Beautiful hotel, excellent brunch, excellent location within walking distance to most sites.
• Small rooms.

“I was very pleased with this hotel! The entire hotel is beautiful, clean, and welcoming. The staff was excellent. The girl who checked me in remembered my last name when I checked out! The Mills House provides a nice brunch which we took advantage of out on the patio by the fountain. My only complaints are that the rooms are small and our service during brunch was not so great. (pretty bad considering you get your own food buffet style) There should have been more staff waiting on the guests seated outside.”

“This is a fabulous hotel. The amenities are excellent. The rooms were beautifully appointed, as were the bathrooms. They brought me a refrigerator right away because I needed it for medication. It is right in the middle of everything in the Historic District. You can walk to many of the memorable sites and close to the Market District.”

• Location! The only hotel on Folly Island on the beach!
• The decor is EXTREMELY dated! Needs to be brought into the 21st century.

“The front desk employees were pleasant, helpful and the only adult staff we encountered. It was discouraging not to have the restaurant, the Pier, open for breakfast on the beach. We ended up leaving the hotel for coffee and breakfast every morning. The king size bed was clean and comfortable, but the decor in the rooms is UGLY! Avocado green and harvest gold was en vogue in the 1970's-not now. The entire hotel needs painting and updating. My feeling is since they were the only hotel on Folly beach, they don't think guests notice.”

• Walls too thin. Could hear neighbors in bathroom talking. Could hear anyone talking in hallway.

“This hotel has a wonderful location. The rooms were nice and clean. The walls were a little thin allowing us to hear people in the hallway and in the bathroom next door. Parking costs extra.”

• I found a roach in the bathroom.

“The hotel is situated right along the beach. The lobbies and pool were clean and the staff were extremely friendly. In general, the hotel is a nice place to relax. It is also good for business travelers since there is free Wi-Fi and a beautiful view at the same time. The rooms were spacious and comfortable.”

• I loved the history of the hotel and how well it was maintained in spite of its age.
• The clerk upgraded me to king via phone, and when I arrived, the clerk at the desk would not give me the king and made me take a double instead.

“Beautiful hotel. However, one of the desk clerk's was not friendly or helpful. Everything else about the hotel was beautiful and elegant. The rooms were small but considering the age of the hotel, that is to be expected. People, and thus beds, were a lot smaller 150 years ago.”

• The hotel was in a perfect location and within walking distance of many historical sites.
• The room was a bit small as was the bathroom.

“This was a very nice hotel to stay at. The staff was very friendly and helpful and the amenities were good. Just about the only negative thing to say was that the room was a bit small but that is to be expected for an older hotel.”

“This is a beautiful historic hotel that truly represent 'Old Charleston' yet with modern upgrades. A city parking garage is connected to the hotel, so you can walk from the garage directly to the hotel. City market is two blocks away. You can't go wrong with this hotel. This was my second stay here and we look forward to many more! This historic hotel is so close to being a 5 star property!”

• Historical yet completely renovated in the room so nice.
• It took a long time to get your car from the valet.

“This hotel is charming and has a lot of history to it. The location is perfect for sightseeing in the historical district and felt very safe. The rooms have been renovated recently so although the hotel is old, your room looks great. Rooms are on the small side but that is because of the age of the hotel.”

• The hotel public areas were elegant and truly reflected Charleston and its romance.
• Rooms could be a little larger but were still nice!

“The hotel was in a great location! The staff was excellent! The breakfast buffet was wonderful and we enjoyed eating outside in the Courtyard. We wish we had stayed longer that one night so that we could enjoy all of the amenities such as the pool and the music in the lounges. The public spaces were beautiful and elegant!”

• The location was incredible right on the beach with a beach view.
• I found the hotel run down and in need of a facelift.

“We loved the fact that this hotel was right on the beach and that every room had a beach front view!! This hotel could be a 4 star if they would give it a huge facelift; the rooms were dirty and smelled like smoke! Luckily the weather was beautiful and we spent the entire time at the beach so we had a really good time despite the hotel And again you cannot beat the location.”

“We were pleasantly surprised at the old world charm and decor. It's great to stay at a property that still believes in customer service. Love the location, near many restaurants and shopping. Parking is a challenge. Put they do have valet available. I would highly recommend and stay on my next visit.”

• Very old but well maintained, in historic Charleston.
• Bathrooms are very small but adequate.

“It has a fabulous fountain in the courtyard with tables to sit at and have a drink or eat dinner. They also had indoor tables that looked out onto the courtyard. The room was decorated very tastefully with upscale fabric. We were visiting the College of Charleston so it was not exactly walking distance but we had a rental car so that was not a problem.”

• Excellent location. Valet parking prompt and efficient. Very helpful staff.
• Restaurant was slow and overpriced. $15 BBQ shrimp appetizer consisted of 4 small shrimp and 3 potato chips.
