  • Convenient to historic area. Clean facilities and a friendly helpful staff.
  • Almost drove past it as a I arrived after dark.

“Had a very enjoyable stay. Room was larger and better appointed than I expected. Very convenient location for the historic district. Once I parked my car, I walked everywhere. Staff was knowledgeable and friendly.”

  • The location and free parking.

“The hotel was in a great location as it is only 1 block to the market. It also was near the finish line for the Cooper River Bridge Run. The hotel staff was very friendly and said they would accommodate the request if at all possible and they were able to. The hotel is decorated in the traditional Charleston decor. It is not the typical Best Western I'll assure you. I loved it.”

  • The location near Theatre 99 plus free parking, waived marketing fee.
  • No free breakfast, tried to charge marketing fee - wrongly calculated.

“This is the best in the true Historic District. It is on the Northern edge (but actually further in than others) and offers free parking. The view is of the parking area, but who cares.”

  • Fantastic location, very good price.
  • A bit cramped -- it was hard to move between the desk and the bed.

“Desk staff was courteous and efficient; the room was clean and comfortable (the bed was especially nice) and the heating/cooling system quiet and effective. The evening wine/cheese reception is a nice touch, as are the cookies in the lobby every night. Perhaps the best location in Charleston.”

  • Needs major renovation. Info said it had been renovated.

“Too pricey for quality. Room with balcony has view of parking lot. Do not eat their $9.75 breakfast - it was horrible: moldy biscuits, oj with chemical taste, chipped juice glass. Staff was nice, but rooms need major overhaul. No fan in bathroom.”

“My room was fine, with exception to the bathroom, very small. Parking could be an issue. The second night, we had to ask for clean linens. We arrived at 3:00pm, check in at 4:00. We could not get into the room until after 4:00. That is the only time I have not bee allowed in my room until the "actual check in time"-ever. The location was wonderful. I really do not think I would go back to the same hotel.”

  • Great location, wonderful staff, reasonable price, free internet!
  • A very confusing hotel. Hard to find our room! The view of the dumpsters was a bit unattractive as well.

“We enjoyed staying here and would do it again. The staff was very friendly and went to great lengths to be helpful. The trip was business/leisure combined and they helped with selecting a restaurant for business that worked out very well. The room was much "worn" and not totally clean, but we made it work.”

  • Convenient location, hotel staff was very helpful, extremely nice and very accommodating.
  • We stayed there 11/13/07 & hotel replaced a water line so water was cut off for a majority of the day, construction work was loud so no sleeping late.

“I have stayed here many times on business and we enjoyed it each time. It is very convenient to our lawyer's office and the courthouse.”

  • No Free Continental Breakfast, for the Price Should Have Been Included.

“If you are planning a trip to Charleston S.C. this Hotel is right in the middle of everything. You are within walking distance of shops, restaurants, night life. Hotel is clean and staff is friendly and knowledgeable. I do believe that for the price they should have offered some sort of free breakfast, but didn't.”

  • Very convenient location. Great little pool area; comfy beds.
  • Noisy plumbing, loud hammering one morning, but not disturbing during sleep hours.

“I was very happy with this hotel. I wanted something convenient for walking in the historic district and I wanted a pool. Very satisfied with both. Also the rooms and beds were very comfortable, it has a nice little bar for evening cocktails and a nice breakfast is available, although it was a bit overpriced (most hotels offer continental breakfast for free, this one was over $7). I will most definitely stay at this hotel on my next visit.”

  • Requested to be moved to non smoking room, then they didn't do it. Also, they checked us out a day early.

“This hotel had the potential to be nice. The location was great, however the staff was lacking in either ability or concern. We had three nights booked and after day two they "locked us out" of our room, saying we were due to check out. They promised us a non smoking room but never delivered. Maid service did not occur until 4 pm or so, making it difficult to go back to the room to shower, etc. The TV did not work, and water stood in the bathtub.”

“The front desk staff was always attentive and friendly. The pool was small, but fun! The room size could easily accommodate four. The food was free breakfast buffet quality, however they charged for it! Maid service was horrible (they never cleaned the coffee pot or the bathroom and I was there for five days)! The best thing was the location. It was literally just blocks from everything!”

  • It was under renovation when I stayed there and the ceiling in the lobby had exposed pipes/wiring.

“This is an older hotel with an excellent location and free parking. I liked the staff. It is currently under renovation (November 2006) and should be better when that is completed. When I visited, it was a bit weird due to exposed pipes and construction in the hallway ceilings.”

  • The location was very good for going to the historic area.
  • it rained very hard and the hotel parking area and some of the hotel area flooded.

“All in all it worked for us and they told us they are going to be doing a million dollar renovation very soon. That would be a big help since there were not refrigerators in all the rooms, and they needed a few other items fixed. But that will all come together when they do their renovation, they said.”

  • Location and cleanliness were wonderful. The staff went out of their way to promptly meet our special requests.
  • Our room was pretty small and only had one double bed.

“I had a very pleasant stay and really enjoyed being in the middle of the historic district, the market and restaurants. We didn't use our car at all. The pool, coffee service, staff and cleanliness were favorites. I believe they had bigger rooms and beds but they put us in a pretty small one. It was cozy and clean but a little cramped with a 3-year old under foot.”

  • Initially, had me booked with only 1 king bed and I required 2 beds.

“Nice location and overall accommodations! Excellent workout facility at Ecco-Fitness around the corner from the hotel. Free parking. Initially, had me booked with only 1 king bed when I called in advance to confirm. I stated that I required 2 beds. Phone receptionist tried to charge me $10 additional for second bed. When I asked to speak to the manager she finally changed me to a NS room with 2 beds without an additional charge. Minor hassle, but they eventually got it correct.”

“A clean, moderately priced hotel located in an excellent location in historic Downtown Charleston. Decor a bit dark for my task, but overall its traditional and well-maintained. Staff is friendly. A small, but inviting bar is in the lobby. Includes parking w/ accommodations very key in Charleston. W/in easy walking distance of the many historic sites.”

  • Noisy and bathrooms are ageing.

“Friendly and excellent location. I think they need a little updating in the halls (carpet and paint) and the bath area's wallpaper tearing and dirty and the tubs needed replacing. Lobby and public areas were great.”

“This hotel was in a great location, but that is where much of the positives end. The staff was semi-friendly and the rooms were alright. They were nothing special and the shower and bathroom needed remodeled because caulk was coming out of the shower all over. Also, the wall was in need of new wallpaper or paint”

“This hotel, though aging, remains excellent in its service quality and has taken steps to renovate and modernize. The staff was friendly and helpful. This level of service is not always. I would recommend the King Charles Inn to any who want to stay in Downtown Charleston for an affordable price.”

  • within walking distance of Market street and restuarants on King St.
  • the only elevator acess to our floor was via a corner elevator in the garage

“rooms very small; free parking adjacent to hotel was very limited (during my 3 night stay I never got a spot and had to park acroos the street(for free)and walk acrooss the street back in through the garage to get the only elevator that went up to my floor; the pool although it faced the streetwas very nice- the spray fountain masked the sounds of traffic;do not book this hotel if stairs are an issue for you-to get any where you needed to go up or down a few steps!”

  • We got only one double bed, which was too small...I tried to get us two doubles, a king or a queen, but none was available. Also toilet ran.
