  • Location was excellent for restaurants and shopping in Charleston. Concierge, desk attendant, and bell person were all friendly and helpful.
  • Roof top pool was well maintained and in a pleasant setting, but pool deck surface was very rough and hard on bare feet.

“This was a wonderful place. Everyone was so friendly and helpful, and our room, which had a balcony, was clean and attractive. There is a well equipped fitness center with HD TV and a nice view of the outdoor pool. A family with young children would do OK here, but this is really a hole for grownups.”

  • Lovely hotel. One of the nicest I have stayed at in Charleston.
  • No wireless internet in the room. I was very surprised.

“This is a great hotel. I actually prefer it to Charleston Place. The rooms are nice and I love the location. Other than the lack of wireless internet in the room (did have in the lobby). It was a great stay that exceeded my expectations.”

  • We were centrally located to the attractions we wanted to see and the ambiance this hotel offered was excellent.
  • We had to pay for all extra amenities such as coffee, Internet connection, parking etc, etc.

“The hotel was attractive and centrally located in the area we wanted to see. The staff was cordial and helpful. The room was well appointed and clean. Would have liked to have had a safe in the room. Had to ask for a small refrigerator which was promptly brought to our room at no additional cost. Our overall experience was positive.”

  • Good location, close to public transportation, clean, and comfortable beds.
  • Not enough hand rails around tub when getting in or out.

“Nice hotel, good staff, restaurant had a nice breakfast but very pricey, 15.00 ea for a regular breakfast. Nice quiet rooms, that was a plus, lots of clean towels. Enjoyed the bar, good drinks. In all a nice place to stay.”

  • The clenaliness of the room & promptness of service.
  • The room was a bit small

“When we arrived in the room we noticed that there was no lesiure chair to sit in, we called the help desk & in a timely manner-a hotel worker delivered a leisure chair & ottomon to our room. The food was great. Bar tender very friendly. A great stay. Hotel parking was costly-16.00 a day.”

  • Restaurant and bar waitstaff were excellent. Service in general was excellent.
  • $20 per day charge for parking - how else are you supposed to get there?

“The Renaissance was a very nice place to stay for 5 days. The staff were very courteous and helpful, and the rooms were nice, clean, and quiet. The restaurant had very good food, but wasn't the most popular place -- we were the only ones there. The pool was only OK -- VERY small rooftop pool deck only had seats for about 10 people.”

  • Location. If you don't have a car, you certainly won't miss it.
  • Not too sure if I would bring young children who are not accustomed to an adult environment.

“Just lovely. The lobby was beautiful as are the rooms - even the hallways are nice. Staff was so pleasant. I felt like the bell hops were our friends by the time we left. The complimentary fruit water in the lobby after walking in the heat of Charleston was a delicious and refreshing treat. We didn't want to leave.”

  • I liked the ambiance of the Wentworth Grille's pub and the free business center.
  • There was no indoor pool or hot tub. Also, need better sundries shop.

“The hotel was well maintained and the staff eager to please (and funny too!). I especially liked the free business center. The rooms were good size and modern and right in the heart of downtown Charleston. Although the hotel is a chain and lacks a little old world charm, I would definitely stay here again.”

  • Location was perfect!

“My stay with my husband in the Renaissance Charleston was fabulous! The location of the hotel was ideal - close to shopping, restaurants and the sights. With everything within walking distance, it was the ideal spot. The room was very comfortable and very quiet! And considering I was sick with a cold for my entire visit, we spent much time in the room. The front desk staff and valets were always smiling and quite helpful - with everything from suggestions and dinner reservations to quick valet service. My husband and I would visit this hotel again anytime we're in Charleston!”

  • Location is great, rooms are very comfortable, staff is very helpful.
  • There isn't anything we didn't like about this hotel.

“I cannot say enough about how much we enjoyed this hotel. We stayed there last summer and liked it so much we went back for New Years. It is a wonderful place for a weekend getaway. Location is perfect, accomodations are on par with much higher rated hotels and staff are very helpful. This is a great hotel from which to see the beautiful city of Charleston.”

“This hotel is very lovely and has great location. I did not like the fact that the rooms are so thin that you can hear everything. I was on the 5th floor and it was very noisy. When my husband and I checked in we requested late checkout. However the hotel was too noisy we left at 10:00 am instead of 2:00 pm. If you are going as a family this is a good place to stay. Don't go for a quiet weekend or you will be disappointed.”

  • King size bed was overly firm.

“This is a very nice, user friendly hotel with a superb staff in a good location. The lobby area is somewhat compact and the front desk, elevators, lounge and restaurant are in close proximity to each other. Parking is convenient, right across the street and is $12 a day. Valet parking is an additional $7 per day, which we opted for. In retrospect, I would skip the valet parking, it just isn't necessary. Most places in the historic district are within a comfortable 10 - 15 minute walking distance of the hotel in including the Market/Meeting streets area. The aquarium is a bit of a hike and I would recommend driving as parking is readily available there.”

  • There was one front desk woman who messed up more than once. On the other hand, one guy was super helpful & polite.

  • The hotel was very nice and elegant.
  • They nickel and dime you to death. Internet, parking, everything is extra. The pool.

“The hotel was very nice from inside and outside. Our room was great! The staff was very nice and helpful! I thought all the charges for incidentals were sad! I mean 2 star hotels have free internet. This is the first hotel in the US I have stayed in that charged for internet access. You also must pay to park. This is another thing that I feel should be part of staying at the hotel. I have been charged by other downtown hotels for parking before too. Parking is in a garage next door with flimsy bar code scanner cards to enter/exit. The cards do not work properly. Usually takes 2 minutes of swiping to enter and leave. The iron in the room made a rust stain on an outfit and then when they delivered another iron it leaked all over the place (not a slow leak, it poured out of the bottom). We had to request a fridge be brought up to the room. Again, cheap rooms usually have these. This is a 4 star hotel.”
