• The hotel is quite attractive and is well-located.
• Staff failed to tell us we were being given a handicapped room, so no bathtub.

“This hotel is quite new. The rooms and public spaces are large and attractive. The staff is helpful, though lacking in knowledge of Charleston. They allowed us to check in early, but failed to tell us they were giving us a handicapped room, so no bathtub. Although the hotel is located quite near the market and other shopping and dining, it is on the edge of what I would consider "well located" in Charleston. The hotel is located in a block with numerous vacant storefronts, which makes it a less than hospitable area in which to walk at night.”

• Room was small, noise (from room next door). Hotel did not seem full, it would be better not to occupy rooms next to each other if other space is available.

• Did not care for the bar location or size. Would have enjoyed outdoor hot tub near pool area.

“Enjoyed my stay. Very close to King Street shopping and the College of Charleston. Short walk to the Market Place restaurants. Fitness Room is on the 3rd floor with large window doors overlooking the outdoor pool. Hotel is very clean and the staff is very helpful but the rooms are small and are lacking in decor compared to other Renaissance Hotels. For the right price I would stay here again.”

• Staff was very courteous accommodations very comfortable.
• I couldn't wait to get Starbucks coffee. Then it was cold.

“Overall it was a great experience, very convenient to Downtown. Comfortable bed. Lots of pillows. Make sure the coffee is hot, though. The valet was exceptionally nice and gave us directions when we left.”

• Was a all non-smoking hotel. This was a big plus for me.
• Had full sized beds instead of queen in room with 2 beds.

• Clean and close to attractions we liked.
• The bed was too firm. We both ended up feeling tired and bruised.

“The hotel was clean and very attractive. The location was excellent for walking Downtown Charleston. The staff was friendly and accommodating. Our only complaint was that the bed was uncomfortable (too hard for us).”

• Restaurant was terrible both times we tried it. Service and food.

“Definitely not a four star experience. On the plus side, the location is excellent. Close to Restaurants, Shopping and Attractions. Room was clean and comfortable save for the front door. Most of the staff with a couple of exceptions were extremely friendly. Now for the not so good. One day there was no maid service and a call to the desk went unanswered. Door to the room was paper thin and everything that went on in the halls sounded as if it was happening in the room. A family on the same floor was letting their children run and scream in the halls for two hours on a Sunday morning and the Hotel Staff did nothing to curtail. Restaurant was just awful. Service was slow and uninterested - the waiter even went so far as to tell us he was "a little too in to the game on TV" - and the food was overly salted and simply not very good. I would go back, but not before exploring all other options.”

“We enjoyed the hotel, except for the noise from a teenage dance and some construction noise. The location was great for our sightseeing. The room was large and very nice.”

• Very clean, very elegant, friendly staff, excellent location.
• No ventilation fan in the bathroom.

“The staff was very friendly, the room was nicely decorated and very clean. The bed was comfortable and the room was a decent size. The location of the hotel is excellent; it within walking distance of everything we wanted to do in Downtown Charleston. I would definitely stay there again and highly recommend it!”

• Its location was very nice. The fitness (workout) facility was good.
• Rooms lacked character. Bathroom was smallish. Certainly not a 4 star hotel per my continuous worldwide travel experience.

“Nice location. If charm and elegance is a primary objective, this is probably not a hotel for you. Especially in Charleston. The scores given above were for a 'general' hotel. Were I to rate this based on 4-star criteria (as it was rated), certain scores would be considerably lower.”

• The location was great for shopping and site seeing.
• The bathrooms were small for a 4-star hotel.

“The hotel was conveniently located to area sites and shopping. We could walk anywhere we wanted to go. The room was clean and we had a small outdoor balcony. The restaurant was very good, and service was excellent. The bed and linens were comfortable. The bathroom was quite small for a 4-star hotel. The room was very nice but not outstanding. I would stay there again.”

• Location was pretty good.
• Did not compare to other 4stars in town ex; wine cheese in evening, breakfast included, no good views.

“Nothing special about the room for the price. Lots of pillows, fancy drapes, one nice bath robe for two people which we never used and the view was not that great. We were expecting much more for the price. Did not try the food seemed expensive even for breakfast. Had a small pool and exercise area that looked very nice.”

• There wasn't anything I didn't like.

“This hotel is in a superb location. It's quiet but steps away from King and Meeting streets. The staff was friendly and helpful, the rooms very comfortable, pretty and clean; and the food in the restaurant was really quite good. We enjoyed breakfast by the fire place every morning and dinner drinks a few times as well.”

• Quiet elegance, lovely rooms, cozy lobby bar, and convenient yet quiet location.
• Wireless is not universally available, though I was able to pick up the lobby signal in my room, due to the location.

“The renaissance Charleston is located on a quiet side street, yet in the middle of everything with easy access to shopping and historic sightseeing. It is an oasis of quiet elegance, with a cozy lobby bar, a quaint entry courtyard and tastefully furnished rooms.”

Third floor room was very noisy hear television from room on one side and alarm going off from the other side plus noise from parking lot across the street unless provided a more suitable room location within property would not stay again.”

“It was the nicest place we have stayed. We have 3 children (5, 4, and 1) and the room was large enough for us to really spread out. The staff was amazing-so friendly and helpful. We hated to leave, but can't wait to go back!”

• The exercise room was very nicely equipped I liked the lap pool also.
• Would have liked for it to have a Jacuzzi.

• Tiffany helped in getting a room with 2 dbl beds.
• Room maid did not clean room until after 5:00 p.m.

“Beautiful hotel in downtown historic Charleston. The front desk staff (tiffany) was excellent in achieving our request. Hotel was busy with many guests but the wait for tables in the restaurant was not long. The staff overall were very friendly and helpful.”

• Would have liked the bathroom vanity to have drawer/cabinet space, not open.

“I would recommend this hotel for business or leisure (couples) because of it's location to the historical area, dining, and shopping. You are only a few blocks from the market and varied shopping from upscale to vendors. You are only a short walk or bike taxi ride to the activities of the historic downtown, and the concierge and staff is knowledgeable and friendly. Clean public and private areas and a responsive staff. They seem glad you are there.”

• The rooms were very nice and the fitness facility was very accommodating.
• It did not have a hot tub.

“The courteous staff from the bellmen to the house keeping made the stay enjoyable. The location in the heart of Charleston was perfect for fine dining and shopping. It was very close to the citadel and was safe for a single female traveler.”

• Location to downtown and Market Street. It was close enough to walk to many locations.
• The view from our room - roof tops of other building. The side street it was located on.

• Walking distance of everything, safe parking and valet service.
• The new deck by the pool, the stones stuck to my feet.

“My girlfriend and I went on a ladies trip, this was our first stop and it was wonderful from the moment we pulled up in the foyer until we checked out. Everyone was so very nice and helpful, the room was great, and it was so close to everything that we left the car for the whole time we were there. Very safe area and excellent for women traveling alone.”

• I think I overpaid and should have gone with 3 stars.

“The hotel was nice and staff was very friendly. I didn't think it was worth 4* though and think I could have gotten a pretty comparable 3 stars for about half the price, so Im a little disappointed, based on the price I paid.”

• The location in downtown Charleston was excellent.
• The curtains to the room would not close leaving it hard to sleep in the room (too bright).

“Great location and an excellent brunch available at the worth grill. We really enjoyed the weekend there. The beds were comfortable, but the curtains could not be fully drawn, leaving too much light coming into the room to get a good night of sleep.”

“If you can get a room at this hotel at a discounted rate it is a great value for the money spent. To pay full price would be hard to imagine. Hotel is relatively small in seems to be crammed into a small space in a small block with no view of anything attractive. But very clean and luxurious overall. Our double queen bed room was very small, but well appointed. They gave us one tiny bar of soap to last sun wed which seemed a bit stingy. The restaurant's menu was extremely limited and overpriced. But I would still recommend the hotel overall based on the rate we paid.”

• No high speed internet access, not a real bar, but wouldn't have used it if they had one.

• The room was small.

“Basically the Renaissance Hotel is a "comfort inn with granite countertops in the bathroom". The room was small; the mattress was not a pillow top. The bed sheets were basic (not a high thread count). The pool is small. The restaurant is overpriced. But considering the price of the nearby 3 star hotels, this hotel was a good value (although not 4 star quality in my opinion).”

• Not worth the money. Expected much more for the price.

“For the price, I was expecting more. Parking wasn't included and the parking attendant was rude. The front desk clerk was nice, but our room, made me think I was staying at a Holiday Inn. The view was of the side of other buildings. There was no remote in the room for the 19" TV and we had to call the front desk multiple times before they brought us a remote. The dining service was horrible as well as the food. For the money, I expected more. I can't recommend this place!”
