“Hotel was great, rooms were clean and spacious and the staff was very attentive and friendly. Nothing particularly special about the hotel itself but very clean and well maintained. The bar staff and front desk were very friendly and helpful and the location can't be beat! Close to King Street, Meeting Street, and lots of shopping and restaurants.”

- The bar and location were unbeatable. The service was on point.
- There was one front desk woman who messed up more than once. On the other hand, one guy was super helpful & polite.
“This hotel can comfortably accommodate any sort of traveler - business, leisure, family, etc. The staff if friendly and helpful & the breakfast room service is delicious and easily ordered! Also, the location cannot be beat!”

- The hotel was very nice and elegant.
- They nickel and dime you to death. Internet, parking, everything is extra. The pool.
“The hotel was very nice from inside and outside. Our room was great! The staff was very nice and helpful! I thought all the charges for incidentals were sad! I mean 2 star hotels have free internet. This is the first hotel in the US I have stayed in that charged for internet access. You also must pay to park. This is another thing that I feel should be part of staying at the hotel. I have been charged by other downtown hotels for parking before too. Parking is in a garage next door with flimsy bar code scanner cards to enter/exit. The cards do not work properly. Usually takes 2 minutes of swiping to enter and leave. The iron in the room made a rust stain on an outfit and then when they delivered another iron it leaked all over the place (not a slow leak, it poured out of the bottom). We had to request a fridge be brought up to the room. Again, cheap rooms usually have these. This is a 4 star hotel.”

“We had 2 double beds the first night; they couldn't give us a king which irritated us. The rooms were redone, but nothing too special. Clean but a strange smell, even when we changed rooms the next night. Pool was a joke, the photo made it appear much nicer.”

- The Hotel signage can only be seen when you pass it on a one way street.
“The Hotel is in an area centrally located in the Battery area of Charleston; with access to many restaurants and two cigar shops and several lounge clubs all within walking distance. There are also carriage rides nearby as well as historical walking tours that are readily accessible to hotel guests.”

- Booking of wedding and prom services.
“Excellent hotel to stay in, located in Downtown Charleston. Within walking distance to shops, restaurants, cultural activities. Comfortable rooms and beds. Some with terraces. The only down side was they booked prom and wedding activities during our stay and the band and guests were loud and out of control. The noise level drifted up to our rooms on the 3rd floor and made sleeping very difficult that night, even the watching of TV! I don't think they should allow live bands in such a small venue.”

- Unable to give us a king-sized bed, extremely loud music directly under our room until 11 PM.
“The location is excellent, the hotel is very clean and attractive. We stayed in a room on the second floor. One night there was a function right below our room and the music was so very loud that we couldn't hear our TV. We called the front desk and they apologized but said the hotel was full and they had no place to move us. Gave us a voucher for breakfast in the hotel restaurant. This was the only meal we had in the hotel and it was not good at all. Overall we had a very nice stay and would stay here again.”

“I would however give it another try. Our room service for a breakfast was over priced and our waiter missed items on our guest form. We did get a good night sleep which is high on our list. The dinning room was short staffed for a weekend and week day. Also, was sad to learn there were no massage provisions within the hotel. Lee and Candy Shellman.”

“Bad Experience all the way! I wanted a room with 2 double bed but got a King. However the motel told me that if a double was available, it would be mine. I know there was one available because I called the motel the night before and inquired like I was just checking rates and they had one however when I called asking to switch, I was told they had none. The roll away smelled musty with a poor thin blanket no pillow. The second night I asked to change and once again I was told they didn't have any doubles. I went back to the front desk and expressed my opinion on this. This time I was give a double room.”

- Room not made up.
“We stayed in this hotel for two nights. We chose it for its value and location and weren't disappointed. The front desk staff was great and did everything we expected without fuss. The hotel was handy to the main areas of downtown so we were able to walk everywhere. The only downside was that our room wasn't made up on the second day. We had to ring room service to get some clean towels - a minor thing but this is meant to be a better-than-average hotel. Otherwise the room was great and fully met our needs. We'd definitely stay there again.”

- The pillows were terribly uncomfortable.

- The hotel is quite attractive and is well-located.
- Staff failed to tell us we were being given a handicapped room, so no bathtub.
“This hotel is quite new. The rooms and public spaces are large and attractive. The staff is helpful, though lacking in knowledge of Charleston. They allowed us to check in early, but failed to tell us they were giving us a handicapped room, so no bathtub. Although the hotel is located quite near the market and other shopping and dining, it is on the edge of what I would consider "well located" in Charleston. The hotel is located in a block with numerous vacant storefronts, which makes it a less than hospitable area in which to walk at night.”

- Did not care for the bar location or size. Would have enjoyed outdoor hot tub near pool area.
“Enjoyed my stay. Very close to King Street shopping and the College of Charleston. Short walk to the Market Place restaurants. Fitness Room is on the 3rd floor with large window doors overlooking the outdoor pool. Hotel is very clean and the staff is very helpful but the rooms are small and are lacking in decor compared to other Renaissance Hotels. For the right price I would stay here again.”

- Staff was very courteous accommodations very comfortable.
- I couldn't wait to get Starbucks coffee. Then it was cold.
“Overall it was a great experience, very convenient to Downtown. Comfortable bed. Lots of pillows. Make sure the coffee is hot, though. The valet was exceptionally nice and gave us directions when we left.”

- Public seating in lobby was limited.

- Was a all non-smoking hotel. This was a big plus for me.
- Had full sized beds instead of queen in room with 2 beds.

- Clean and close to attractions we liked.
- The bed was too firm. We both ended up feeling tired and bruised.
“The hotel was clean and very attractive. The location was excellent for walking Downtown Charleston. The staff was friendly and accommodating. Our only complaint was that the bed was uncomfortable (too hard for us).”

- Clean and comfortable and in a good location.
- Restaurant was terrible both times we tried it. Service and food.
“Definitely not a four star experience. On the plus side, the location is excellent. Close to Restaurants, Shopping and Attractions. Room was clean and comfortable save for the front door. Most of the staff with a couple of exceptions were extremely friendly. Now for the not so good. One day there was no maid service and a call to the desk went unanswered. Door to the room was paper thin and everything that went on in the halls sounded as if it was happening in the room. A family on the same floor was letting their children run and scream in the halls for two hours on a Sunday morning and the Hotel Staff did nothing to curtail. Restaurant was just awful. Service was slow and uninterested - the waiter even went so far as to tell us he was "a little too in to the game on TV" - and the food was overly salted and simply not very good. I would go back, but not before exploring all other options.”
