• Did not feel secure at night.

• Awesome locations. All the bars and great dinning one direction, shops the other. Perfect location to see all Charleston has to offer.
• Bathroom was small, but I recommend not spending that much time there.

“Excellent hotel, great location. I'm a picky travel that likes luxury with location to bars and dinning. This was a perfect location and I will absolutely come again and tell everyone to pick this hotel. I have no ties to anyone at this hotel, my stay was simply awesome. In fact a local family friend said they had a bad experience at the hotel, so we went into the check not expecting top service. Don't make a mistake pick this hotel.”

• Rooms wall need painting.

“Downtown-like location, with a nearby parking garage with $12.00 self-park in and out Privileges. Extra friendly, staff couldn’t be more helpful. Room OK, needs some painting for marks and scratches on wall. Bathroom was way too small for adults. Old fashioned tub with shower and toilet was in an uncomfortable position. Reasonable walking distances to nearby attractions, but could have been 4 blocks closer for our handicapped person in the group.”

• Gorgeous, luxurious main lobby.
• No swimming pool in 96 degree heat.

“Tries hard for 4 stars and almost makes it. Valet/bellboy staff works hard but understaffed. Rooms were quiet and noise proof, poor views, great beds. Inconvenient self-parking.”

• Beautiful bedding, very clean, friendly and perfect location.
• Air conditioning was hard to regulate. Halls were freezing, but not a big issue.

• When problems occurred, staff responded quickly and appropriately.
• Felt old, but not elegant. Had to change rooms twice.

“Despite having to change rooms twice because of a check-in problem and an air conditioning failure, I felt the staff responded quickly and appropriately. The rooms are good sized with updated furniture, beds, televisions, etc. However, those expecting a renovated and updated environment will likely be disappointed. Although clean, the hotel clearly feels dated.”

• Carpet could use upgrading in publice spaces.

“Absolutely loved this historical hotel. Rooms have been redone and are very comfortable with a tranquil cozy feel. Had a problem with the heat and a maintains person arrived within five minutes of my call to front desk even though it was after 10 pm and quickly fixed the issue. Service very good and location can not be beat. Fellow guests were friendly and I enjoyed talking with several in lobby while I waited on my family.”

“The Francis Marion occupies a great location adjacent to King Street Shopping, College of Charleston and the entire historic district. The big windows offer wonderful views of the old city, the harbor, Ft. Sumter and the Atlantic Ocean in the distance. The hotel has an old world, comfortable nice feel with character that makes up for what it lacks in newness and glitz. I will stay here again.”

• The staff was very friendly and the location was great.
• There was no hot water for our showers. It was not even very warm.

“I thought the public area were very nice. The staff was helpful. The room was nice but not excellent. The fact there was not much hot water was a problem. When you travel you want to take a nice shower. Overall, I liked the hotel, but it could have been improved upon.”

“The Francis Marion is a beautiful centrally located hotel with an attentive staff that is happy to recommend restaurants and attractions in the Charleston area. The deluxe room was cleaned from top to bottom daily during our four night stay. We would definitely stay there again!”

• I really liked the hotel. It is historical so remember this when booking not new.

“We found this hotel to be outdated & cramped. The bathroom was tiny and the fixtures were not in good shape i.e., the tub was chipped and brass finish on the fixtures was wearing off. It was clean but just looked run down. Not impressed!”

• Customer service.

“We had an excellent stay at the Franis Marion Hotel. It was our honeymoon night so they upgraded up to the top floor corner suite at no cost. We had a great view of downtown Charleston, the Ravenel Bridge, and Marion Square. The bed was plush and we easily drifted off to sleep after a long day.”

• Great location to downtown and the Farmer's Market.
• Small bathrooms.

“If you are looking to stay in the heart of downtown Charleston, then this is the place to stay. Located on King Street, the city's main through fare, it is across the street from the Farmer's Market held every Saturday during the Spring-Fall months. It is also close to shopping, eating and history! The rooms are very clean, bedding is great, however; the bathrooms are quite small (only one person at a time). Free internet, newspapers and a great workout facility definitely make me want to stay there again!”

• Big bathroom with large glassed shower - big enough for two!
• Side doors locked after 11 pm and not assessable even with room key.

“Elegant, old, hotel, but a classic! Lots of detail in the construction. You get to enjoy the classic splendor of a time past with today's amenities. Very friendly staff, great location. The parking garage fees on your site was $14 per day. However we were able to find safe street-side parking without any problem the entire 4 days of our trip. This is a college community and student were just starting to return, so I'm not sure about parking at this point. Most of the venue we attended were in walking distance.”

“Hotel is beautiful - the bathroom was incredibly small - my husband and I could not both brush our teeth at the same time - there was no room! Decor is pretty and hotel lobby is impressive and clean and nice as well - did not feel that the bedding was all that great - just the sheet and the comforter - slept in better beds at 3 star places that were corporate run. Slow elevators as well.”

“Great hotel. Beautiful rooms (although small). The $12 a day parking garage fee was a bit high and there is no free internet or continental breakfast of any type. But all in all, it's is gorgeous, I loved the lobby and lobby area and the concierge was very helpful too. The beds are so comfortable and rooms are gorgeous!”

• I liked the classic feel and the location.
• It is an older building so some of the appliances didn't work very well. There is no free wireless.

• I didn't like the $9.99/day in room wireless internet access charge. Didn't pay. I like checking e-mail, trip map searches, restaurant searches, etc.
