• The staff was very friendly even at 2:00 am.
• They were unwilling to accommodate my request for 2 beds.

“The hotel was quite convenient for my needs and very quiet. However, I found the valet parking to be very inconvenient as the staff was not able to keep up with the demand for cars especially in the prime morning times.”

• Small rooms but serviceable.

“The location is terrific for visiting CMU. Colleges are only 5 minutes away by hotel van, upscale shops and dining are a 10 minute walk away. The service is courteous and efficient.”

• Clean and pleasant room (though very standard).
• The hotel is poorly situated with major facilities and attractions.

“We stayed five days and four nights as my wife was completing a program at U. Pitt. The hotel is billed as in the neighborhood of campuses (Pitt and CMU), but it's too far to walk so it is good that they normally provide a free shuttle. However on the last two days of our visit, the free shuttle broke down and there was no provision for us to get to campus. This proved a major inconvenience, since we had to rely on repeated cab rides (and since there were many people in the same situation, it became almost impossible to get a taxi). The hotel should have provided a back-up shuttle or at least offered to pay for our repeated taxi rides back and forth to campus.”

• The facilities and people were very nice and efficient.
• The unexpected charges not included in room rate, mandatory valet parking charges and breakfast was also not in room rate.

“The hotel was an excellent hotel with top notch personnel. It's not that easy to get to, but was very conveniently located for my purposes of visiting a sick relative in an area hospital. Valet parking charge exceeding $18/day and a very fine breakfast that is also not included in the room rate.”

• They provided shutter buses to nearby areas. Very convenient.
• The location was at a busy intersection, far from nearby shopping area.

“Hotel room was a bit noisy from outside traffic as well as guest in the hallway. Overall, not bad, comfortable. I think this hotel is good for 1 or 2 night stay.”

• Comfy room. Very nice set up and very nicely decorated!
• Valet parking was $20, and hotel staff had varied answers about when they ticketed for on-street parking.

“Very nice. We were hoping to stay closer to Downtown. The shuttle didn't go to where we needed, but the desk called us a cab. The staff was extremely nice and friendly. However, when I asked about on-street parking, I got different answers from staff. One person told me they didn't ticket on the weekends, starting Friday at 6. Someone else told us they ticketed every day, even weekends from 8am-8pm. And someone else said they ticket Friday till 8. I just parked on the street right in front of the hotel and decided to chance it. I didn't get ticketed, so I think that the city does NOT ticket on the weekends. Room was fabulous. Bed was extra comfy. I enjoyed the flat screen TV and the overall layout of the room. Other than the parking situation, I highly recommend!”

• Nice TV, internet connection.
• Forced valet parking for $19.

“Good location, easy to find, clean rooms, nice TV selection, free internet. Overall has everything you need for a comfortable stay. Only drawback is the forced valet parking. I suppose it does add some security by having the valet on duty in the lot. If this extra cost doesn't bother you or you don't have a car this hotel is a good option.”

“The staff were very pleasant and helpful, and the decor was fantastic much nicer than I had expected. Also, this hotel is located right outside the UPMC Shadyside hospital campus (where I was interviewing) and within walking distance of many shops and restaurants in the trendy Pittsburgh neighborhood of Shadyside. I would highly recommend this hotel to anybody traveling to Pittsburgh.”

• I liked the staff and the room accommodations were excellent.
• I didn't like that they only offered valet parking.

“Overall, we had a great stay in this hotel. The room was very nice and clean and it was in a great location for our needs. The only thing that I wish were different is the parking arrangements. We did not want to pay almost twenty dollars a day to valet park so we had to find metered parking on the street. But it was nice that there was a Starbucks coffee attached to the hotel! Great trip all around!”

• Great staff, clean, & well decorated.
• Only one computer for public use, hot tub was cold, room was a bit on the small side, mandatory daily valet parking fee.

“We stayed at this hotel with our 4 children. The hotel staff was very friendly and willing to help if needed. The lobby area had a cozy feel to it, and the hotel was clean. Not very fond of the mandatory daily valet parking rate of $18.88, but overall it was a great hotel, at an even greater price. I'd definitely stay again.”

• Transportation provided by hotel was outstanding.
• The food in the restaurant was not served as described on the menu and one meal was cold.

“The hotel room exceeded my expectations as far as comfort, appointments, and size. The restaurant needed more staff. The one waitress was juggling service in the restaurant and delivery of meals for room service. We attempted to order three different wines and they were all unavailable. The restaurant should also have more partitions to separate it from lobby to provide a quieter dining atmosphere.”

• Good open for breakfast & dinner, indoor pool, convenient location and complimentary shuttle service.

“Although located outside the city this hotel actually had more to offer. The hotel had a restaurant open for breakfast and dinner, plus a lounge (always a bonus) seven days a week. All parking is valet parking and there is a charge (13.00 plus a city tax that brings the total to 18.85) but you understand because you are still in the city and everyone knows that in the city of Pittsburgh parking is limited. I looked at it this way at least I didn't have to be out in the weather as long and the valet attendants cleaned the snow off my car (again another bonus).”

• The room was very clean and comfortable.
• Valet parking was not necessary, we could have parked our own car and not paid an extra.

“The Courtyard By Marriott Pittsburgh Shadyside is a beautiful motel in an area with several restaurants and shops, but it is quite a long drive from the freeway. Be prepared to pay a lot for parking anywhere in Pittsburgh, even at the motel.”

• The facilities and room were impeccably clean and professional looking.
• The $20 a day valet parking (not optional for that neighborhood) was ridiculously over-priced.

“The Courtyard by Marriott, Pittsburgh-Shadyside, was a very clean, professional, comfortable hotel. However, the hotel is not as close to the downtown area as I had hoped (or was stated on the website) but the Shadyside neighborhood felt very authentic and had several great bars and shops. The hotel's valet parking option was very expensive, to the point of being unreasonable (close to $20 dollars a day!). Also, the continental breakfast was a bit expensive for what was served and the attitude of the cook (not the waiter) was less than polite. Overall, our stay at the hotel was one of the best I¿ve had, despite the small things, and I would recommend it to anyone traveling to Pittsburgh.”

• $19.50 is too much to pay to park your car. And my room smelled like cigarette smoke.

“The hotel is attractive, located outside of the downtown area. The hotel is now smoke-free, but room 501 must at some time have been a smoking room; there was a very noticeable cigarette odor. The staff was very friendly and approachable.”

• Everything was clean, and new. It met all my needs.
• I can not complain about anything, I can't say that for many hotels.

“It's hard to relax on business, you are always pressed for time, and work matters are at the forefront. I didn't have a single complaint or negative experience at the Marriott- it helped my stress level that my travel plans were so worry-free. Immaculate, beautiful, with friendly service- the Marriott will be my first choice whenever I book a hotel from now on.”

• Valet parking only and it cost $20! there is no free parking. Have quarters ready for meter.

“We were very excited originally about this hotel and the location. However, upon check in the front desk workers were very rude. I asked the person who was checking me in about the location and things in the area, and she was extremely short with me. Later on in the evening, I asked for directions and she told me she didn't know and walked off. There was no free parking available. The hotel only offers valet parking, and it costs $20 a day. After paying for a hotel in Pittsburgh the last thing I want to do is pay $20 for parking, especially at a Courtyard by the Marriott. I asked the same rude front desk helper about meter parking (the cost, how long you can park there, is it safe, is there a better place to public park)and she refused to help me. We were more than happy to check out the next morning. The room and hotel though were very nice and clean. Great room, great price. I was just very disappointed by the customer service.”

• Good location, nice lobby, windows, pool, exercise room, outside waterfall setting.
• Expensive car valet, no complimentary breakfast-only $9.95 breakfast buffet, free coffee and $5.25 per cup Starbucks shop coffee.

“It is situated on a smaller than desirable location for its size hence parking is at a premium. The valet service is the only motel parking for $19.95 per night otherwise one has to park on the street. The inside of the building is pleasant especially the lounge area. A small Starbucks coffee shop is in the building with access from the hallway. The room was typical with coffeepot and hairdryer.”

• Everything, Professionalism of the staff was outstanding.
• The amount of the valet parking, it should be a whole lot less.

“I truly enjoyed my stay at this hotel. The professionalism of the staff was outstanding. I have never been to a hotel and felt more welcomed and respected like when I stayed at the Marriott in Shadyside. They were friendly and non bias. They were all great. Words can't express the way I feel. I will truly stay at this hotel the next time I'm on vacation in Pittsburgh. Hat's off to everyone at this hotel.”

• Hotel was clean. Staff was polite and friendly.
• Hotel has mandatory valet parking which costs $20.00 extra.

“On the plus side, this hotel has a great location and provides good accommodation Was impressed by the room furniture. My 11 month old daughter has a habit of picking up bruises from table corners and sharp edges at new places. The furniture at this place was clean and above all missing the sharp edges and corners and so was heplful in keeping the kid away from unnecessary cuts and bruises. the minus side, this hotel has mandatory valet parking which costs $20.00 per day. The other parking option is to find your own parking outside the hotel premises.”
