“It could have been better if they have a simple breakfast provided to occupants. Staff was nice but room just looks very ordinary for the price. Comparing it to other hotels I have been before.”

• Housekeeping staff is one of the best in the world.
• Complimentary breakfast not available.

“The hotel was very clean, and the staff was always great, especially housekeeping. The only interesting moment was when a male working the desk, not wearing uniform, kept repeating my room number aloud. Having been a general manager, it was off putting, because of liability and safety concerns. However, the stay was excellent, and this is from a former hotel manager.”

• Bathroom grout needs to be cleaned or redone.

“Hotel room was not as big as expected to be considered a suite. I called the hotel in advance to determine the layout of the room. Description by desk agent was inaccurate. Had to purchase another room so that we all could be comfortable.”

• Location was nice, right next to Tanger Outlets and close to downtown.
• No wireless. No breakfast. Old and outdated. Lackluster. Nothing great.

“Overall the experience was a good one. The check in didn't go well, the room was not cleaned and ready for us at 3:00 even though we were checked in. The pool and pool area were clean and well kept. The common area was clean and well lit. Overall the hotel was clean and comfortable. The location difficult at first, but once we found our way it was easy access to the main highway. This made it easy to go where we wanted to go in Charleston.”

• TV did not work; very noisy due to planes; very small sink, vanity area; no continental breakfast.

“This hotel was decent for the price. It was convent to the highway and the front desk had directions printed out to some of the main areas. The television in our room did not work. The sink/vanity area was very small. It was a challenge for even one person to get ready there because of the lack of space to place items.”

• The location was great!

“The hotel was located along the river front which was very nice. The only thing is every time I went the front desk people were complaining. Also the room didn't have a high speed internet cord. The rooms seemed really poorly made and you could hear everything outside. I have stayed at tons of courtyards but it didn't seem like a Courtyard.”

• We had a corner room which was huge. Plenty of room even if we had bought the kids.
• Nothing, Only bad thing was we could only stay one night.

“Hotel was wonderful. Excellent view of the marina and downtown from our corner room. We will definitely try to stay there again on our next visit to Charleston.”

• The hotel was located near many attractions.
• Difficult access to the hotel from the highway.

“The location was very conveniently located near the main attractions, but it was somewhat difficult to enter the hotel from the highway. The staff was not very helpful. The cleaning service knocked on the door to clean the room, but gave only a few seconds to answer before entering, but they did a nice job of keeping the room clean. Overall, it was a very nice experience, and I would use the hotel again.”

• The Courtyard By Marriott is a great location in Charleston.
• The room was a little smaller than I expected.

“I was pleased with my stay at the Courtyard By Marriott Charleston. It has wonderful rocking chairs outside with a great view. The pool and whirlpool are great. The service was excellent.”

• Isolation from down town. Across major road made walking to and from hotel inconvenient.

“The location of the hotel is both its strength and weakness. It's close to the historic district of Charleston, but separated from it by a major road, making it difficult to access without a car, a major handicap in a city best seen on foot. The air conditioner quit working halfway through the second night, which was uncomfortable in a South Carolina summer.”

“This hotel was a good value. The hotel had a good location, clean rooms and a good location to the marina. The hotel was in very good condition. The only drawback was a somewhat friendly staff. If you ignore the staff, the hotel is very nice with a good location next to the marina. The streets around the hotel can be confusing. Many one way streets with limited signage.”

• Had typical electronic room card/key that did not work and had to be replaced.

“Probably under-rated at 2 1/2 stars. It was better than some 3 star hotels I have stayed in even though 3 stars was the top rating in some other cities. Getting out of the hotel and into the traffic is difficult when leaving -- there is a very large hospital close-by. I had a GREAT RATE”

• Centrality to our destinations while in Charleston
• Needed a business center with computers for guests to use.

“This Courtyard was typical of the quality of the Marriott chain, as there were no great surprises. The air conditioning unit in the room broke down, but was replaced immediately. Local television access channels were sub-par compared to the cable signals, but the general manager assured me that the problem was being remedied soon. Overall, though, it was a pleasant stay and I would go back again.”

• I had to kill 2 roaches and the room was not as advertised

“After the hotel accepted our bid I called to check the room I was getting. I was told that I would have a pool/marina view and when we arrived I was told that customers NEVER get the good view. I had to kill 2 roaches which made it so my wife could not sleep.”

• The location was perfect,close to CofC and downtown. The room was very clean and large the pool and spa nice. The staff very helpful and freindly.
• No free breakfast just a restaurant we brought bagels and juice with us.

“I highly recomend this hotel. I plan on staying there again in about 2 weeks when my daughter moves to Charleston to start school.”

• Beautiful, Clean, Newest-looking hotel room we've ever stayed in.
• The first time I called to request non-smoking, desk attendant was abrupt and put me on hold for about 10 minutes. ALL other staff were very friendly!

“We had a wonderful experience! Our room was without a negative issue at all, even the bathroom looked brand new. The view of the city was nice and we even got a small balcony. I felt this hotel actually upgraded us! The view of the river from the pool is beautiful, resort-like! Very relaxing experience.”

• The hotel had a great view of the harbor and was new and clean.
• Because of the heat, there was no cold water coming from the tap. The room was small, but okay.

• It was very quiet even though I was put next to the ice machine. The rooms were also spacious and clean.
• You do need a car if staying at this hotel and wanting to visit downtown. Did not like the small parking spaces.

“The hotel was clean, safe, convenient to downtown if you have a car, had spacious rooms, and attractive common areas. Do not expect a historic hotel but do expect to be comfortable.”

“Exellent hotel, location is wonderful (except for the current construction), hotel was clean and housekeeping staff was very helpful and friendly, desk staff could use more training in regards to patience and professionalism. They assigned me to a room that had not been cleaned after the previous guest and when clerk #1 was reassigning me a room, she asked "does it matter if it doesn't have a balcony, but has a view?" ”

• When asked if there was a room overlooking the marina, he "indicated" that no other room was available.

• Nice Hotel with great view of the fireworks
• parking space were not big enough for all the big SUV's that were there

“The hotel was very nice, the elevators were slow and seemed a little uncertain. The room was very comfy but I did not appreaciate the $1.50 bottles of water that they left in the room that would automatically be billed to me had we drank them prior reading the little tag.”

• Nothing, I was extremely disappointed to discover that a hotel like the Courtyard was so deplorable.
• The rooms were small, dirty, the towels were hard and rough, it was not up to the standard of what I expected from the Marriot

“The hotel fared to a Hotel 6, which is not a 2 1/2 nor a 3 star hotel. We were so disappointed at the poor quality that we found at the Courtyard by Marriott. We expected so much more.”
