• It was way over my expectations. I said 'Wow' as soon as I entered the lobby and when I got to my room.
• The only thing I didn't like was that the pool and hot tub were outside. I would have gone in.

“Price, atmosphere, and memories; those were everything I could have hoped for but did not expect. I was blown away as soon as I walked into the lobby and saw how beautiful it was. You could see a long fountain in front of the windows as soon as you pulled. There was beautiful artwork displayed that it seemed I was entering into some sort of museum. The outdoor scene was also amazing. There were little personal fire pits blazing, patio furniture spaced comfortably about as well as couches for comfort. I haven't even started on the room. It was so beautiful I had to check my bill to make sure they didn't make a mistake. Overall, the best hotel I have personally ever experienced.”

“I loved our visit. Every part of the hotel was better than most other recent hotels. We have been traveling quite a bit these last few years, to many great cities and this hotel was one of the best for the star rating we asked for. Great hotel! Staff was super nice too.”

• Lobby and hotel staff was very nice and accommodating.
• Parking was a mess due to construction at the hotel and standing water.

“Hotel is nice and comfortable, which is what you would expect of a Ramada Inn. Parking and lot was very tight with areas of inches deep water standing. There is ongoing construction. I'm not sure if this was for additional business center capacity. They need additional parking.”

• It was great - better than a resort hotel I just visited.
• Lounge chair in room needed a pole lamp for reading. Seemed a bit short of parking spaces but it looked like a new parking lot is under construction.

“It was great - bright, well decorated, clean. Staff was most friendly. Especially liked the exercise room with towels, paper towels and bottled water. Food in restaurant was good. Gift shop had 2 good books on Revolutionary War and Civil War walking tours in Charleston.”

• Gorgeous room, excellent, accommodating staff.
• There was no microwave in the room.

“11 out of 10! We would give the Marriott Charleston an 11 if we could. My wife and I spent a week in Charleston - our hotel was a wonderful aspect of our trip. The staff were professional, friendly, and uber-helpful. The room was wonderful - warm, inviting colors; material patterns that evoked the local area; and a comfortable bed and chairs. This hotel felt like a home, and we were always happy to return to the room after a day out sightseeing. Other Priceline users have denigrated the size of the bathroom - my wife and I had no problem with it and appreciated the granite top and multiple shelves in the vanity. The location on Lockwood at highway 17 made travel downtown, to Kiawah and the plantations in the west and to Sullivan's in the east a snap. Highly recommended!”

• Hotel was clean with nice decor. Staff friendly and helpful.
• Renovation of parking lot caused limited parking. Hard to find a space each time we came in and out.

“We really enjoyed our stay. Hotel had nice decor and rooms were clean and bed was very comfortable. The pool was not very large and it was sometimes hard to find a lounge chair. We would stay here again.”

• Loved the 3rd floor outdoor bar - has great view of the area.
• Lighting in bathroom was somewhat dim.

“Upon arrival, the hotel staff were courteous and very helpful with directions to local attractions. The room was spacious, the bed very comfortable (lots of feather pillows). I enjoyed the use of the mini-fridge, great for keeping beverages and other food items over a 5-day stay. The grounds were well-kept, the pool was crystal clear and the exercise room was fabulous! I highly recommend the Marriott for any stay, be it for leisure or business.”

• The gym was excellent
• The bathroom tub was in poor condition and the shower barely worked and was extremely noisy.

“Although the lobby and gym are nice, the room and hallway did not live up to the standard I expect from a Marriott. The hallway felt as if it had no air conditioning (and it was very very hot) the the bathroom was tiny and in poor condition. It appeared as though it had been partially renovated - the sink and countertop were excellent, however the tub was in poor condition, the grout and caulking were dirty, and the shower barely functioned. The bathroom fan was noisy but I don't think it helped clear the room at all. The view was also horrible - view over an ugly rooftop with construction supplies.”

“The hotel had a very clean and neat appearance, lobby, front desk, elevators, corridors and rooms. Everything was clean and orderly. Guests were cordial and polite. And the area of town the hotel is located appears to be crime free and safe.”

• I liked it.

“The hotel location was not far from the exit, however, I had to drive to see the colonial city which was not far. I did not see that many palms, since the name, Palmetto. The hotel was beautifully designed and nicely decorated in yellow tones. The room was comfortable although my room was near the elevator doors and I could hear people exiting and elevators door chimes.”

• The hotel was very clean and in a great location.
• The pool was not heated as described.

“This hotel was wonderful. It was clean and in a great location. We loved the park across the street and the view of the harbor. The baseball field was behind us and we were able to see the after game fireworks from the rooftop bar. We were extremely pleased with this hotel.”

• Close to the Citadel, beautiful inside and we had a window of the bay area which was very nice. It also was quite.
• There is nothing to tell.

• The heater making a loud knocking noise at odd intervals throughout the night thus waking me up.

• Beautiful lobby, room was nice certainly for the price. Great location.
• Rooms could use more sound-proofing. We could hear everything from nearby rooms and hallways.

• No bathtub.

“Enjoyed staying in this hotel one night before the beach house became available. Very clean, comfortable, and convenient, with a lovely view overlooking the citadel and the Ashley River. Staff was very friendly and helpful. Used the complementary workout facility, which was quite nice- the elliptical squeaked but had a TV with earphones. Do prefer a room to have a bathtub, but overall a very pleasant stay.”

• Hotel was outside main downtown district, hotel shuttle not inclusive in room cost.

• The front desk staff was especially helpful with restaurant suggestions and reservations.
• My room was actually warm even though it said 65. Another traveler complained of the same thing.

“Wonderful decor. Newly renovated. Absolutely beautiful. Hotel staff was extremely friendly and helpful. Even called and made a last minute reservation for our dinner at a fabulous restaurant. Definitely would stay here again.”

• Incompetent desk clerk had us checked out 1 day early.

“Except for the blip of being told we were checking out on Monday, (when in fact it was Tuesday!) this was a very enjoyable experience. Hotel is 8-10 min from Downtown and 2 min from the baseball stadium. Pool area is nice and exercise room is great.”

• The lobby area was beautiful.
• The maid barged into our room at 8:00 am as we were sleeping. She did it again at 9:20. We were not checked out. We complained but nothing was done.

“The lobby and public areas are beautiful. The room was nice but the view of the roof lacked beauty. The bathroom was tiny. The leisure experience was ruined by the maid coming into our room twice in the morning before checkout time, once while we were sleeping and the second time I was in the shower. The staff was unaccommodating. Our stay at this hotel was disappointing.”

• Great location, very pretty hotel, food & bar nice.
• Did not have any shampoo in the rooms and they did not offer any type of breakfast items. Had to pay for everything.

“I really liked the hotel. The location was great and people were really nice. There were 2 things that I did not like. They are: they charged us to take the shuttle into town and there was not any type of complimentary coffee or breakfast items. We had to purchase coffee. Overall it was really nice.”

• Restaurant staff seemed inconvenienced by us when we needed them and for help with our child.

“Beautiful, clean, great location-close to highway and easy to get around. Restaurant on-site was mediocre. A small Starbucks inside is nice, but only serves a handful of drinks. While we were there 2 different conventions were taking place so there were times when the terrace and outside areas were closed off to the public.”

• Nice rooftop bar and good facilities. Hotel itself is a little dated.
• Location was not convenient to the attractions in Charleston.

“However, the hotel is showing its age despite recent refurbishing. I don't think it quite lives up to its 4-star rating because of that. The best feature was the rooftop bar; very comfortable and relaxing after a day of sightseeing. The least appealing feature was that it was not easy walking distance to the historic downtown or the Cooper River waterfront. However, it is very close to the Citadel and it is an easy drive to the Ashley River plantations.”
