• We really liked the beds and comforters very nice.
• We were told we would get a good view of the harbor and didn't because of the post in the middle of window.

• Good value for price, friendly staff, nice room, and nice facilities.
• No breakfast.

“This Marriott, though an older facility, has been nicely updated and is very user friendly. The hotel boasts a quality exercise room convenient for business or leisure travelers. The spacious courtyard attracts weary Charleston sightseers to sit around the glowing fire pits for a relaxing evening. No need to drive to the nearest star bucks it's just steps away in the main lobby of the hotel.”

• Our room was by noisy elevator.

“This hotel looked very modern. It was clean and the staff was friendly. The food in the restaurant was excellent. The hotel provided transportation to the historic district for a small fee. I would definitely stay here again.”

• The court yard, the third floor bar it all was beautiful.
• Breakfast, was way to expansive they charged me for coffee and juice even though it was included on the menu.

• Bathrooms are tiny!

“This hotel was so beautiful. The decor in the lobby was dazzling! The room was great, but the bathroom was tiny. No way could two people be in there at the same time. We had to take shifts to brush our teeth. Also, only two small mirrors. One in the bathroom and one in the room over the desk. The staff was great and we would definitely stay there again. Loved the free shuttle to the market!”

• Beautiful, clean room, excellent restaurant, friendly and helpful staff.
• Outside service for food & drinks not the best. Foreign staff could not understand our request fully.

“My family's stay was very enjoyable. The rooms were comfortable and clean, staff very helpful, restaurant food was excellent and staff very friendly. I loved the 3rd floor terrace bar. Shuttle into town was a great help and they were very prompt at picking up when called. I would definitely stay at this hotel again and recommend it to others.”

• Very attractive lobby, convenient location, nice rooms.
• No bath tubs. Small bathroom.

“This was a very pleasant surprise. The hotel was nicely decorated and in a convenient location. It wasn't in downtown but was a very short drive to get there. We were very pleased and would definitely go there again.”

• The 10-minute drive to historic downtown and 20-minute drive to folly beach, excellent!
• Carpets in the rooms could do with some cleaning.

“Overall an excellent hotel for the price and we plan on staying there again. Room was very comfortable and a good size for two people and luggage for a short trip. Extremely attractive lobby area as well.”

• The hotel had comfortable beds, clean rooms, and a fantastic exercise room!
• To go to most places in the historic district, you either had to drive or walk 40 minutes through busy traffic.

“Overall, this hotel was great! The exercise facilities are fantastic! The rooms were comfortable and everything was very attractively decorated. There is an amazing outdoor patio with places to sit and chat with friends. The only issue I had is that to go to most attractions in the historic district, you either had to walk 40 minutes or drive and pay to park. However, the location was still very good.”

• The receptionist went out of her way to find a great romantic restaurant for my anniversary.
• There was not a great view of the Ashley river from my room. But it's likely because of what I paid.

“The facility is excellent! The staff went out of their way to make my stay a comfortable one. The location is not really close to downtown and all the attractions of the historic area, but it's an easy and short drive to get there. I would stay here again.”

• Location was somewhat far from city no indoor pool.

“This hotel was extremely nice and very comfortable. The staff was the nicest Ive experienced at a hotel. The location was far from downtown but they did provide an on call shuttle service for six dollars that worked out nicely. I don't recommend this hotel if you are going bar hopping downtown and plan to stay out late. However, if you are in Charleston to see the city it is probably a good choice. The decor was very modern and comfortable.”

• I liked the sitting areas outside the lobby and on the third floor. Very welcoming.
• The ice machine on my floor did not work I had to go up to the third floor to get ice.

“I loved the atmosphere of the hotel it was very restful and I enjoyed reading my book on the poch outside. I felt safe and comfortable. I was planning a women's weekend there sometime in the future, it is close to everything downtown and there is easy access to the beaches once you figure out the roads!”

• Cocktail prices very steep.

“This hotel is a true gem in a city (Charleston, SC) where there are so many choices. My husband and I were able to negotiate a really great price and were stunned when we arrived at the property...it was a dream! We were greeted with hospitality and warmth as we walked in the front door and it was that way our entire stay. The lobby, hallways and sitting areas were very exquisitely decorated and the rooms were fabulous, as well. Additionally, the outdoor seating areas on the ground floor and the third floor lounge gave you the feeling of being somewhere exotic. We really enjoyed sitting outside on a cool evening and enjoying our cocktails by one of many fire bowls. And the restaurant was out of this world! The cuisine was exceptional! When traveling, my husband and I always make plans to have dinner in town, but this time tried the hotel restaurant! I would highly recommend dining in! My only criticism would be the cocktail prices - premium liquor on the rocks was $9 per drink a little pricey. Other than that, this hotel has truly outdone itself! Bravo!”

• Hotel was very pretty.
• Wireless internet access had to pay for unless you wanted to go to the business center.

“All in all the Marriott Charleston was a very nice facility. The lobby was spotless, the pool and hot tub area was spotless, and for the most part, the room was spotless. The grout in the shower could have been a little cleaner. A continental breakfast and free Wi-Fi would have been nice. They charge $9.95 for internet access in your room. You can access the internet for free if you go to their business center.”

“The room was great, housekeeping did a wonderful job keeping the room clean and stocked, and the restaurant was fabulous. I had a room by the elevator and found it very noisy; however, I chose not to change rooms.”

• This hotel was renovated recently
• The decor is the most odd I have ever seen

“Nice hotel - location is not really near the historic district - food was good. But, god what an ugly interior design concept - I felt like it was 1971 all over again!”

• Inside decoration of the hotel is very nice.
• There was no cold water in the shower. Only warm and hot water. We complained. But they could not fix.

“Location of the hotel and interior decorations are very nice. Employees are very cooperative and friendly. But we have two concerns: 1) There were no cold water in the shower in Room. We complained, people came very quickly but could not fix. 2) On July 28, 2007 we were out almost whole day on sight seeing. But we found a phone call at 1.00pm from our room. We paid it (only 75 cents) as the amount was small but it bothered us.”

“I really enjoyed my 3 days at the Charleston Marriot. The hotel is beautiful, and the location was close to all the things we wanted to see and do. On my next trip to Charleston, I will stay at this hotel again.”

• Staff was very friendly and attentive.
• Not close to the downtown area. You had to drive or take a cab. Shuttle from hotel is offered but costs.

“Very nice hotel. Check in was easy, had a problem with my A/C but it was taken care of quickly. Pool was nice and everything was clean. The only bad thing is although downtown was only a mile or so away you had to know where you were going to get there. The hotel has a shuttle but it costs $6 per day per person to use.”

• The electrical outlet in the bathroom did not work.

“This beautiful hotel is located a few minutes from historic Charleston and the South Carolina aquarium. It is also conveniently located for most other popular attractions in the area. The hotel staff is wonderful -- helpful, knowledgeable and friendly. The lobby and common areas are very attractive and there is a business center with computers and internet access for business travelers. The best feature was the wonderful room. It was absolutely lovely and exquisitely decorated. The beds were the most comfortable I have ever seen in any hotel. The hotel overall had an extremely luxurious feel.”

• Excellent package. Good rooms, beds, & facilities.
• Bit far away from main part of downtown.

“Overall, an excellent value. The rooms were very nice, spacious, well-decorated with the signature Marriott beds. Also, the facilities were above what you would expect. Very slick workout room. Nice outdoor patio area. Affordable lunch buffet. Free parking. Only drawback was that it was out of walking distance from downtown Charleston.”

• Beds were comfortable. Shower was great. Bath was clean. Pool was lovely. Starbucks.
• The hallway carpet smelled really bad but the room carpet was fine. The shower door did not work properly.

“It was a little hard to get to because of Charleston's one way streets but the directions were excellent. The downtown shuttle was $6 each, so we drove downtown. There was no airport shuttle. The hotel itself was lovely. The staff was most helpful and courteous.”

• The Hispanic air, the decor, feeling of luxury & of being on a remote island even being in downtown Charleston, sc.
• I wish we could have stayed longer!

“The hotel was great. I had to call the hotel to find out what kind of room I had i.e. Smoking/nonsmoking, king, queen, doubles, etc. I would have liked to have known before committing. I felt I took a gamble and got lucky, but wouldn't chance it again.”

• The terrace bar on the 3rd floor overlooking the Ashley river.
• Would have liked a larger selection of microbrewery beers. Would have loved a good wit bier/ wheat beer.

“I would definitely recommend this hotel, and will stay there again. It is very convenient to citadel, and the battery which were two of our destinations. We could have spent the weekend sitting in the rocking chairs on the courtyard. Restaurant food and service were very good.”

• Room was good size and the shower was AWESOME! Love that Head!
• Half of it was under construction and thin walls. Heard people in hallway.

“The hotel was under construction but that didn't bother us at all. We were there for the weekend and knew we would just use the room for rest. The rooms were completely redone and very nice. The bathroom was very nice and the shower had 2 heads!! It felt good! I think this hotel will be done in about 3 month at which point the price will surely go up and so will the stars. Location is good but only if you have a car. Walls are also thin so try to stay away from family reunions that might be on you floor! If you see one ask for another floor. PS-Go the speed on Highway 17! Try she crab soup, eat at Vickery's, hear Momma sing the blues and do a ghost tour! Hope you have a great time.”

• Staff was excellent and the hotel has the potential to be a great hotel.
• Hotel is undergoing renovations beyond what I could imagine. I had a lung condition that was severely affect but the dust and mold.

“The hotel has the potential to be great but it was horrible for our family reunion. The rooms were fine but the was no lobby area, no in dining, no pool and the dust and mold in the lobby made me sick. If I had not been there for my family reunion I would have left. The parking lot was a disaster and not guest friendly at all. In my opinion the hotel should have been closed with the major stuff going on when we were there. And the rates did not compensate for the inconveniences.”

• The new rooms were very nice. Hotel staff did not hesitate to bring more linen and clothes. Hotel is in a good location for quick access to the hits.
• A simple hot breakfast is needed. It was just a place to sleep until the renovations are complete.

“The new room decor is great. The view of the river was a plus. Lockwood is at the James Island connector and 2 blocks from Calhoun for quick access to the historic district via this one way street.”

• The cooperation and service of the hotel staff rates a 5 star quality.
• There were problems at check out that I did not appreciate, but was professionally resolved by the staff.

“The Charleston Riverview Hotel is currently under a major renovation program, but despite this occurrence, the entire hotel staff performed far and above to satisfy their guest accommodations The only negative occurrence that I experienced with my stay was at check out. ”

• The room was wonderful!
• they are remodeling the hotel. No pool and some construction work.

“It was a nice place to stay they are doing some remodeling at the hotel. The pool was closed however you could use the pool at the Marriott which is only a 2 min drive from the hotel. There were some noises from the construction, but all of the hotel rooms were complete and very nice. It was a short drive to downtown Charleston. Very nice stay.”
