“The walk from parking to elevator is very long.” Sep 5, 2008 by
Becky from Oak Ridge, TN
“The room itself was very nice, new, clean with a comfortable bed. The disappointment was with the check in and subsequent long walk to the room. There is a lot of construction going on which is probably why the place was so empty. At 8 o'clock in the morning the construction crews started just outside our window. The maids knocked twice, at 8 am, then at 8:20 am, I then put out the do not disturb sign and then they called about 9:30 to ask when we would be leaving. I guess they didn't have that many rooms to clean. The restaurant was empty, we did get a drink, the employees were friendly. One young man stopped what he was doing to help lift my luggage up a couple of stairs. That was a nice surprise.” Aug 30, 2008 by
Christine from Statesville, NC
“They were remodeling the outside and lobby, but they need to work on the rooms too. Don't know who taught the maids to make beds with all flat sheets, but the bottom one didn't fit. I remade the bed. Other than the pipes singing, they're going to have a nice hotel when they finish. Hopefully, I'll revisit in three or four years.” Aug 30, 2008 by
Carolyn from Havre De Grace, MD
“This is a grand hotel that is under construction. It is not fair to rate at this time due to the transition. Once completed I would love to return. It will be a magnificent hotel once completed.” Aug 2, 2008 by
David from Bunnell, FL
“I waited two hours to get a room replacement because my door lock was broken. The whole place was under renovations.” Aug 2, 2008 by
Mark from Christiansburg, VA
“This hotel has changed its management and is currently being renovated. It might be nice if it gets finished.” Aug 2, 2008 by
Grant from Manchester, NH
“This hotel is undergoing significant renovations. The lobby is inconveniently located a great distance from the rooms. Several parts of the hotel are off limits due to the construction. Overall, this hotel is dated and in very rough shape. I was very disappointed.” Jul 30, 2008 by
Shirley from Central, SC
“Its address was for a street that it is not located on (its on a frontage road). There were no lights to help travelers find the hotel. The lighting around the hotel was dim and I felt very uncomfortable. The front desk was very far (at least 1/4 mile) from the elevators. No one asked to help with my bags. The room seemed clean but I did not feel safe as the sliding glass doors to the 2nd floor porch did not lock well. Would never stay at this place again.” Jul 29, 2008 by
Lorrie from Jackson, TN
“It was under construction which made it very inconvenient. It had a terrible odor and was extremely humid. The sheets on the bed felt moist always. The staff was not very friendly, even after our room keys did not work.” Jul 26, 2008 by
Mary from Tampa, FL
“A man, identifying himself as acting manager on evening July 22, was the worst and seemed determined to provide no service.” Jul 23, 2008 by
Cheryl from Cumming, GA
“The nice staff is trying to make the best of the extensive hotel renovations by being attentive to its guests. The actual hotel room was a disappointment, very old and dingy. The beds were very comfortable and the location is good.” Jul 22, 2008 by
Tim from Forest, VA
“This will be a great location once the remodel is completed.” Jul 20, 2008 by
Brandon from Smithville, MO
“The thermostat in the room wouldn't regulate according to temperature in the room, so it stayed on the whole night. Since I was only staying one night I wasn't too worried about comfort, as it was not that comfortable. I would rate this more of a 1 star hotel. They need to lower their prices, as they are too high for what you get.” Jul 2, 2008 by
Rick from Pineville, NC
“Hotel is being renovated. Will be very nice when done. Rooms are big and great but a long walk from the parking area.” May 26, 2008 by
Tom from Virginia Beach, VA
“Hotel was under construction and dust and debris was everywhere. They had a Prom there Sat night and there were NO parking spaces for guests, we had to park off site and walk back to the hotel, I asked to have a light by the bed repaired three times during my stay and it never was. NEVER again.” May 11, 2008 by
Van from Knoxville, TN
“First this hotel has a very tough location to find. The sign is way too small and not lit up from the main road. Second, it was under some major construction so I was willing to let that pass. I understand that they were making some updates, and they are much needed. The room was adequate, but they charged for high speed internet and as an avid traveler, I believe that should be included in the stay. I suspect that the renovations will make this hotel better and I thought the room was adequate, nothing more. Stay here if you get a really cheap price or only after renovations are done. I personally do not like giving poor reviews, I rarely ever do, but this was not a good start to our first vacation together.” May 10, 2008 by
James from San Francisco, CA
“This hotel was going major renovation. You had to walk very far from check in to room. Furnishings very old” May 10, 2008 by
John from Midlothian, VA
“Was unaware of the fact that this hotel was under extensive renovation. Desk service was good; however, it is most difficult to function normally in an abnormal situation. Would have been nice to know that the conditions would not be normal and services would be disrupted. Simple things such as newspapers at your door, convenience to elevators, etc. Were missing.” May 5, 2008 by
Keith from Knoxville, TN
“The hotel is under renovation and did not accommodate the guests. There was no water pressure in the rooms and we could not take showers in the morning. When asked to speak to a manager there weren't any in the hotel. This was at check out time. No one would do anything for us, it was I'm sorry we're renovating. No kidding but that doesn't mean that we pay for rooms without water. Then they attempted to double bill for the room. Totally dissatisfied with this hotel and would never stay there again!” May 5, 2008 by
Dave from Waynesboro, VA
“The hotel is undergoing major renovation scheduled to be complete around August/September. The staff seemed unorganized. I asked for a new hairdryer for 2 days (never did get it). Every time I went to the make shift check in desk, someone was there complaining about something.” Apr 20, 2008 by
Craig from Rehoboth, DE
“Nothing said about construction. Was also a charge for the internet. At present time with construction, place is overrated. Will be great once renovation is complete.” Apr 8, 2008 by
Donna from Stokesdale, NC
“I think this can be an awesome hotel once the renovations are completed. The rooms need updating and the workmanship from before is shoddy, i.e. tub and sink caulking not neat. Rooms need heavy duty cleaning; there was mold on wallpaper above tub/shower. Bathroom tiled floor was nice. Was sad to see pool area was closed for renovations.” Apr 3, 2008 by
Lori from Winslow, IN
“The pools, sauna and Jacuzzi were not open. That was the main reason this hotel was picked. Very disappointed.” Mar 5, 2008 by
Shannon from Covington, VA
“My husband and I stayed at this hotel when we were married. This time, we were truly let down. The hotel has changed management, and is under major renovations. The halls are torn down; construction materials are everywhere; the pool and hot tub have been closed for more than 2 months.” Mar 4, 2008 by
Susan from Sarasota, FL
“The fact that the hotel is under MAJOR renovation should be revealed before reservations are made. To walk in and find this out is unfair. Also the rooms are awful. Mold is in the showers around the ceilings; half the lamps do not work. We had made a reservation for a king-size bed and got 2 double beds. What is the point in making requests if they are not honored. The dishes sat outside a room that had ordered room service for over 24 hours and it was disgusting.” Feb 20, 2008 by
James from Rio Rancho, NM
“Got coffee grounds every time we made tea. Center tile in elevator by exercise room come off.” Feb 4, 2008 by
Steve from Montpelier, VA
“Good old hotel in good location with a good floor plan. This former Wyndham has good bones and is getting a much needed renovation. I hope the new owners use good quality beds.” Jan 5, 2008 by
Gina from Simpsonville, SC
“This hotel is not a Wyndham. It is an independent hotel called the Roanoke Plaza and it is undergoing extensive renovations to become a Sheraton over the next year. After driving 12 hours. This was not something I wanted to put up with. It was comfy enough for the one night of passing through we needed it for. I do not recommend an extensive stay at this hotel.” Jan 2, 2008 by
Keith from Antioch, TN
“The hotel is no longer a Wyndham and did not provide maid service for the duration of our stay (even though we hung the maid service tag on two separate days). Part of the hotel was under construction which meant lots of noise and no water from 11am-5pm. Also, our in room coffee pot was chipped badly.” Jan 2, 2008 by
Mgm from Blacksburg, VA
“They changed hands from the time that we booked. They said we had to pay again. However, at this point, it is still very sad looking. The hallway to our room had dishes sitting outside the door, other pieces of trash, and needed vacuuming. Our room faced 581 but was quiet. I don't think there were many guests that night so the hallways were fairly quiet (I did hear activity close to midnight). Our room was a good size and clean but looked forlorn- torn wallpaper, banged-up furniture, and very dated bathroom countertops and fixtures. (I hope they raise the countertops when they renovate!).” Jan 1, 2008 by
Melissa from Roanoke, VA
“I stay at the Wyndham often. The room was fine, the pool was great, and the restaurant left much to be desired. With only two tables eating when we got there we still waited for service for more than 10 minutes and this was with a bunch of 12 year old girls. Not the most patient individuals. All of our drinks ran out and our meals were brought out at different times, some at some tables getting theirs and finishing before the rest was served. The hotel itself is great, being remodeled right now which was a little distracting but we barely noticed. I would advise staying away from the restaurant, there are much better places to eat only minutes away at the valley view mall area.” Jan 1, 2008 by
Sharon from Hixson, TN
“Hotel is under renovation. Water may be turned off from 11am to 5pm. Not a Wyndham hotel any longer. Its now just the Roanoke something. Did not know this and could not find it!” Dec 26, 2007 by
Barry from Richmond, VA
“Will eventually be back in shape/after completion.” Dec 18, 2007 by
Dave from Chesterbrook, PA
“Friendly staff, very helpful. Very good food. Room very clean and orderly, beds comfortable. Love the fireplaces in the lobby and restaurants. Nice little indoor pool and Jacuzzi. Great rate. Great location just a couple minutes from Downtown and various stores. Highly recommend.” Dec 17, 2007 by
Tim from Pickerington, OH
“You need to check this out for yourself before you have your customers staying there.” Dec 16, 2007 by
Oscar from Hamilton
“The hotel is undergoing major renovations which is not advertised anywhere. The first night I was there the water was cut off from 9pm until 5am the next morning. The hotel staff was unwilling to make any concessions for the inconvenience. The need for renovation is obvious. It is seriously outdated and worn out. I'm sure the place was wonderful when it opened, but I wouldn't stay there again. The only positive thing was that it was a good location.” Dec 16, 2007 by
Oscar from Hamilton, VA
“The hotel is undergoing major renovations. The first night we stayed the water was shut off from 9pm until 5 am. Many of the areas are blocked off and the hotel is seriously outdated and it appears that they are focusing on renovations and not maintaining what they renting out each night. The staff was unwilling to make any concessions for the inconveniences caused. I will not stay there ever again. It should not be in that star rating.” Dec 16, 2007 by
Allyn from Tarpon Springs, FL
“The furniture looked like it had been through a war. There were cobwebs on the walls. Everything was old and warns out.” Dec 12, 2007 by
Crystal from Lewisburg, PA
“They were in the middle of doing repairs and updates, so that wasn't very nice. The ice machine on our floor didn't work, so I went to a different floor. That one didn't work either; finally the third floor I went to, the ice machine worked, but there was dirt in some of the ice cubes. Yuck. The walls were thin, so we could hear everything in the next room and out in the halls. At one point, my friend went to take her shower, there was no water. I called the front desk. The city apparently was fixing a water pipe, but she was somewhat rude to me when she explained the problem. The hotel might be nice after it's updated, but I wouldn't recommend it right now.” Dec 8, 2007 by
Allen from Pinellas Park, FL
“Good thing there was an indoor pool and gym.” Dec 5, 2007 by
Mel from Roanoke, VA
“I grew up in Roanoke so I am a little familiar with the local hotels. The Wyndham is one of my favorites. It is near the mall, airport, and lots of dining choices. The staff is great there which keeps me returning. There is no cost to park and it is a safe place.” Dec 3, 2007 by
Ken from Mooresville, NC
“Furniture was beat up, wallpaper scared, mirror badly corroded, closest room to noisy area (drink & ice machine); lower level floor; curtain would not properly cover sliding doors; would not give same amenities as other guest. Basically the last 2-3 times I've stayed there using, I have felt they have put me in sub-standard rooms and will not honor the free-internet even though I am a "Request" member.” Dec 1, 2007 by
Cynthia from New Milford, CT
“Rooms need renovation rugs dirty, room tired. Hotel under renovation in area where we stayed many areas boarded off. Noisy near airport, birds (swarms) in pine trees outside hotel and garbage trucks in early am outside window.” Nov 29, 2007 by
S from Chicago, IL
“Would not go back again. Supposedly under renovation but all areas are just old. Does not live up to the Wyndham name.” Nov 28, 2007 by
Lois from Middletown, PA
“We have previously stayed in Roanoke in other facility. Our stay at the Wyndham was close to our Roanoke family, easy to find, and very clean and comfortable!” Nov 27, 2007 by
Brett from Clemson, SC
“The place is dirty it needs paint badly, even the bathrooms in the rooms have mold @ the base of the tub wall paper coming off in rooms and halls. The staff needed to shave.” Nov 9, 2007 by
Joy from Newark, DE
“Hotel will be going through some renovations soon. It will become a Sheraton. Will be a lot nicer - but may cause some inconvenience for travelers.” Nov 7, 2007 by
Ava from Bristol, VA
“The hotel was clean and very close to the airport. I liked the common areas. When we checked in the fireplaces were lit, and it made the place feel warm and inviting. It is an older hotel, but I would stay here again. It was a great hotel for the money.” Nov 1, 2007 by
James from Rio Ranch, NM
“Scenery great, staff not actively friendly but not unfriendly. No "do not disturb" signs available. Breakfast a relaxing setting. Breakfast very pricey. Would go back but not my favorite motel in Roanoke.” Oct 30, 2007 by
Cathy from Middletown, DE
“Hotel was a pleasure. Additional charge at checkout on 10/12 is still a mystery. Please see previous evaluation for details.”
