• Employee was the only good thing about this one.
• Hotel does not equate in any way with the 2 and 2-1/2 hotels.

“It is hard to know where to begin. All customers need to avoid this hotel (I guess the entire chain) if possible. Every room smells of either smoke, food, or even body odor. The staff for the most part is not friendly- they was unhelpful, inflexible, and do not care. They seem to be proud of it. Only one employee really tried to help.”

“It was perfect for my needs. I had two rooms to accommodate myself, my two sons and one family friend. I was bringing my daughter to her first semester at college but did not want to stay near the school but rather a short distance toward home as I headed for home early next morning. The room was clean, comfortable and best of all, it fit my budget.”

• I liked the kitchenette.
• The room smelled like smoke.

“I stayed in this room once before and liked it just fine. This time, the room smelled very strongly of smoke. They gave me another room and it still smelled like smoke but not as bad so we took it. In the morning, when I told the office about the room, she was very apologetic. Hopefully, they can fix this problem as I think this hotel gets a bad rap.”

• The price.
• Cheap construction allowed for noises to wake me up in the middle of the night each night.

“The rooms layout and accommodations are nice, but running water in neighboring rooms made an oddly loud sound in my room. The result was that I was kept awake when trying to fall asleep and awakened at 4 AM when my neighbor was apparently showering each day.”

• It was nice to have a kitchenette to wash my son's cups and put his food in the refrigerator.
• It was not as clean as I would have liked.

“I read a lot of negative reviews about this place but was pleasantly surprised when I got there. This place was great! My only complaint is that the bathroom could have been cleaned more thoroughly than it was. It is right next to the highway so you can hear traffic in your room but it did not prevent me from getting to sleep. I plan on staying there again whenever I am in the area.”

“Watch out for this place. You pay for internet, more than 2 people in a room, the kitchen is a micro-wave and small fridge at best, and they nickel and dime you to death. I rate this place a one star not two. I will never stay at one of these places again anytime or anywhere.”

“We were not looking for a nice hotel, but a clean place to sleep while in route to another destination. This hotel was just barely clean enough to pass my inspection. The desk clerk was friendly. Certainly not worth more than a 2 star rating.”

• The kitchen area and the work desks.
• The access road to the hotel.

“We've stayed at Extended Stay America before (in other cities) and were not disappointed this time. Mostly comfortable bed, but had to go to the office to get extra pillows (there were only 2 when we checked in). You have to take a frontage road to get to the hotel, so the road maintenance is iffy and there is only one traffic entrance/exit to the place. Also, if you do not know exactly where you are going, you will miss the entrance. It took us three tries to make the correct turn to get into the place. It's very close to major shopping malls, most restaurants and the airport, and close enough to all of the visitor attractions.”

“The first room had hair in the shower and sink. And a beer cap on the bed. We had another room, but we were concerned with the quality of the cleaning staff. Did they change our sheets from the last guest?”

• Walls seemed a bit thin; I could hear things in other rooms.

“Good basic accommodations which would prove adequate for people on a budget. Unless you're expecting to stay at a resort, you get lodging at a reasonable value.”

• AC is very loud and made it hard to sleep.

“This motel is close to the interstate, airport and dining, however, the staff at check in was foul mouthed and inconsiderate. The room was clean and tidy, but you must bring your own toiletries (shampoo, conditioner, etc). The air conditioner worked fine at first but after several hours it started getting louder and louder making it difficult to rest. By morning I thought the bearings were coming out off the unit.”

“Although the room was clean and included a kitchenette with full size refrigerator, cook top, and microwave, it was very limited in its amenities. Wireless internet is an extra $5. There is no shampoo or bath soap. The bed it rock hard. They only clean the room once a week unless you pay for extra cleanings. You must exchange your own towels. It's a clean place to sleep, but that's about it. I would spend more next time to get a nicer place. I've stayed at much nicer hotels for a lot less money.”

“It was a nice stay. You must ask for a room with two beds. It took a lot of complaining to get them to switch me and thank goodness, they had a double room left. So be sure to double check if you need to switch rooms.”

• The ironing board provided was sturdy and the front desk lady was helpful even though I checked in after midnight.
• Room is barren and depressing, no toiletries provided, hair everywhere, dishes in kitchenette were dirty, phone didn't work, key would stick in door.

“Please avoid this hotel if you are seeking anything more than just a place to fall asleep. (and you may not be able to fall asleep, if the other guests are obviously there to party and have a screamingly loud extra-marital rendezvous multiple times throughout the night, right above your head.) Therefore, your hotel stay is with people who actually live there temporarily. And have friends over to party while you are trying to sleep. The room itself is bare bones and feels like a cave. The bathroom floor was covered in hair, no toiletries are provided other than a bar of soap, and the shower curtain was moldy. The dishes provided in the kitchenette were obviously rinsed but not washed, with lipstick and finger smudges all over them. The telephone was not working, so when my key was stuck in the lock at 12:30 pm, right after checking in, I had to walk all the way back down to wake up the desk clerk to help me remove the key.”

• Bathroom was not clean and pipes made awful noise when toilet flushed refrigerator did not work.

“This hotel was ok for a one night last minute stay. It had no amenities continental breakfast, pool, lounge area. I realize it is basically an Extended Stay Hotel for basic needs but the bathroom was not very clean, the pipes made a terrible noise when toilet flushed and the refrigerator made such awful noise when it ran that we ended up shutting it off. Would not be good for the traveler that needed to have fridge. The people were friendly. Would not be a very good place to stay, for me, for any length of time. But otherwise it was suitable for our needs and for those that just need a place to stay for a night or two and just to flop. I would rate it more of a 1 star economy hotel.”

• Cheap windows, gap at door let air and lot of road noise in.

“Very close to interstate highway. Cheap windows and gap around door allowed cold air and road noise in at night. We could not sleep because of noise. We were charge extra for 2 bed unit verses one bed unit. Also they charged for wireless internet. Most places its free.”

“We stayed to be close to the airport for an early morning flight. The hotel was very noisy, right on the Interstate. It was not particularly clean and was shabby. Seemed like not a very safe place to stay. The staff was very nice, though!”

• The location. The bare boned staff that was there, were nice.
• Greasy bedspread nasty blanket I bleached the kit & bath mold in bath coffee maker nasty burner on stove did not work carpet filthy.

“The bare bones staff that were there were nice. I felt bad for them. This could be a decent place to stay if they would just clean the carpets, I was afraid to walk barefoot and didn't. They need NEW sheets, blankets and bed spreads. Bleach the bathroom black mold around toilet bottom at floor black mold under rim of toilet green mildew/mold on hand hold in shower. I'm not a freak but mold is a nasty health issue and can be cheaply corrected. Like I said with a thorough cleaning this could be a nice place. If cleaned I would stay again. If not cleaned I wouldn't pay more than $20/night if I had to come to Roanoke again. I would go in debt to stay at a nicer place rather than arrive at a room that I felt needed to be boiled & bleached just to avoid basic health risks.”

“The out side of the building was dirty. A lot of dirt all over sidewalks and stairs. Curb appeal veer poor. Office workers need uniforms.”

“Terrible place. I got a non-smoking room and the whole place smelled strongly of smoke. (Not just tobacco smoke either.) The room had old junk in it and the floors were covered in hair. Definitely not even 2 stars.”

• Water pressure fantastic and rood really spacious and clean.
• Again, too much noise from surrounding rooms up until 2am. I had to get up early and probably got a total of 3 hours rest all night.

“I thought overall the hotel stay was ok, the water pressure and space was really great, however I only slept 3hours. I had to leave the TV on to muffle the sound. I traveled 8 hours two days straight (with the hotel stay between the days). My second day of travel was really difficult, I felt sluggish all day.”

• The rooms were easily accessible from the parking lot.
• Very poor attention to cleanliness and basic hotel standards.

“This stay was very unpleasant. I arrived late (around 1 AM) ready to collapse the night clerk (who happened to be a laundry attendant who was left in charge) was very sweet and helpful, and gave me the key to my room. When I arrived, however, dirty towels were scattered on the floor, the bed was unmade basically untouched from a previous guest's stay. I walked back to the front desk with suitcases, only to be told that only smoking rooms were available (which, in the morning, I found out was not true, according to the manager). Anyway, due to my exhaustion from travel, I reluctantly agreed to stay in the smoking room. When I walked in the room, the stench of old cigarette smoke was nearly unbearable and worst of all, I noticed that the coffee pot had a leftover cup of coffee still in the pot, with a film of mold floating on top of the old coffee. I called the front desk and told them immediately, but they did not offer to come get the coffee pot or change my room again. I was too exhausted to put up a fight, so I just peeled back the blankets (which had many holes from cigarette burns) and tried to filter the smoky air by putting a t-shirt over my face. I realize this email sounds a little dramatic.”

• The employees that I had contact with were very friendly, helpful, and efficient at their job.
• The only negative was that we found an old, grungy cookie between the bed and nightstand.

“Very clean and comfortable. This is a very good choice for a business traveler, whether for a short time or an extended stay. They get you registered and checked out very quickly, and gave us extra pillows and a blanket immediately when we requested them. Most rooms only have one queen size bed, so this is not the ideal arrangement for more than one person or a couple traveling together.”

• If I were interested in a lengthy stay, the kitchen facilities would be desirable.
• Thermostat control on heater/air conditioner did not work.

“The Extended Stay motel was clean and reasonably convenient, with a friendly front desk person. But the room was very basic for the traveler: tiny television, cigarette burn holes in blanket and bedspread, inoperative thermostat, and no shampoo in room (the latter a motel policy). I would have been satisfied if the motel was listed as economy/1-star, but 2-star is not appropriate.”

• The room was clean, carpet was clean.
• Smoke in room, asked for non-smoking.

“The hotel has a lot of construction workers but the room was clean, the bed was comfortable and things were quiet after about 10:30. The office personal was friendly. My only complaint. I asked for a non-smoking room and there was smoke that made me sick.”

• The desk attendant was friendly.
• The amenities are below the level of a 1-star though it is marketed as a 2 star.

“This is not a good hotel for families. There is only a very small queen sized bed (closer to a full), two pillows and no extra blankets. The room was not clean and everything from a phone book, to extra towels, to a second bed was a substantial extra charge. This would be good for the economical business traveler, but terrible for families. .”

• The location was convenient.
• This hotel was not well suited to traveling families. One of my children had to sleep in a chair and I had to use towels for pillows.

“This is a good hotel for Extended Stay business travelers. It is an exceptionally poor hotel for families and leisure travelers. There is an extra charge ($25) for a second bed, the bed provided is barely a full size and the hotel literature indicates the rooms are appropriate for a single guest.”

• Courteous front desk staff and the kitchen area.
• The bed was small, uncomfortable and the blanket had holes. Also, smallest color TV I have seen in a hotel in years.

“This extended stay hotel is good for the solo business traveler. Bring your own toiletries and your eyeglasses for TV watching. The kitchen area has a full size refrigerator with large freezer, a microwave, a coffee pot and stovetop burners. Full size iron and ironing board are standard in ever room. Hairdryers are available from the front desk. You can also get extra pillows from the front desk to compensate for the potential uncomfortable bed. A good two star value to the solo business traveler.”

• It had a warm room to sleep in if you like sleeping on the floor.
• There are too many things to list how poor this experience was.

“This was not totally the fault of the hotel. My reservation was lost; there were no doubles available, no toiletries, and no one to contact to change hotels. I was left with no choice but to sleep on the floor.”

• The room was dirty, the shower had mold, the stove would not heat, the carpet was dirty, and the bed sheets were urine stained.

“The room had an old smell, dirty soiled carpet, old beaten furniture, mold in the shower area and the stove would not heat. I will never stay at the ESA again.”

• Had refrigerator and microwave.
• The rooms stank bad, had to be moved from first room because air conditioner did not work in first. No toilet paper in bathroom when arrived.

“This is a good hotel for migrant workers, and it was full of them. It is not a good hotel for families. The rooms all had a foul smell to them. The beds were ok, but thats it. The TV was small and color was bad on it.”
