• The staff was very pleasant.
• There were no towels or face rags in the room at arrival.

“The room had no towels or face rags and it smelled really bad I called to the front desk and asked for towels and rags and I also asked if house keeping could bring me some spray because the room smelled she told me to come to the front desk so she could move me and she did. They need to realize though that most people use a face cloth and a wash cloth and they didnt give me enough rags per day.”

• Dirty and had roaches crawling on our luggage.

“Definitely not clean. Roaches were found the last day of our stay. Since they may have laid eggs in our luggage we are going to have to replace our luggage. The hotel should pay for this or at least reimburse us the money we paid for our stay.”

• Buffet breakfast was a good value. Pool area and courtyard attractive.
• Three LARGE roaches in our room.

“The first thing to greet us when we arrived in our room was a 2 inch live roach in the tub. We found two large dead roaches later. The blanket and comforter smelled like dust. It is right by the airport and an air base so we heard the frequent roaring of jets directly overhead - sometimes waking us up in the middle of the night. The buffet was a good value, but after seeing roaches I questioned the cleanliness of the food preparation facilities. The staff was only marginally friendly - not enough to compensate for the hygiene issues.”

• The front desk clerk did make an effort to accomodate me.
• Unsafe, dirty, noisy, dark and dingy and reaked of smoke.

“I had brochial flu when I arrived and had to sit for 2 hrs. waiting for your customer service person (in another country) to make arrangements for me to stay and then staying in a smoking room when I had requested non smoking further irritated my bronchitus and made me ill all over again.”

“How do you get a 2 star rating out of this scummy hotel? I saw young guys roaming about the corridors on cell phones and do believe there is drug trafficking going on here. Mattress with odor and stains, bathtub had not be cleaned out, I left early even though I had already paid, it made me nauseated.”

• Nice lobby, has potential.
• Bathroom was poor in all 3 rooms I had, and found 3 bugs during the week.

“Had to change rooms twice to get one that was non smoking and have a refrigerator. Then the air conditioner did not work properly, the first day I told them about it, the front desk told me they would tell the maintenance guys about it. Nothing even happened that day. The following day I saw the maintenance guys and asked if they were informed of my problem. They were not told anything the day before but did upon my request change it out the next day.”

• The front desk staff was extrememly accomodating and professional, and willing to work with you without any complaints.
• It advertised high speed internet, but doesn't say it has to be wireless, and so I didn't get the internet I expected, and it had a roach problem.

“I found the room very clean and comfortable, and large. The staff is some of the best I have had to deal with. It is centrally located, so it is easy to get around on public transportation, which is a problem in Charleston in itself. The only drawback is they do seem to have a roach problem.”

“We arrived around 7:00 pm. The first room we were giving had mildew in the bathroom with rust. The second room we went too, the beds were not even made. The third room was almost as bad as the first with water in the corner, had no idea what that might have been, nor did I want to guess, but by than we were too tired to try another. We were not very happy with our stay and left early in the morning.”

• Room had typical motel smell and was very dark.

“Convenient to restaurants, airport and interstates. Motel rooms have good TVs and coffee makers, and are reasonably quiet. The rooms are dark and have a typical motel smell. Free Wi-Fi is a bit spotty in coverage but a great amenity.”

• The location is good. The front lobby very attractive.
• There is a stink all over the place. Our toilet got clogged in the middle of the night and the whole room was flooded.

“For the price, the room was okay. The rooms and facilities were clean but there is a nasty stench all over the hotel which is a damper. The accommodation is acceptable for a 1 night stay but not recommended for anyone traveling with family or little children.”

“The check in time was delayed 2 hours, the staff had no clue what was going on. At one point a hotel clerk started crying. I checked in and checked back out 5 minutes later. I was filthy.”

• Room was not cleaned the next day at all and bugs, bugs, bugs.

“The bathrooms could stand a major remodeling. The desk attendant was extremely nice. It's just not a good feeling when you have to see bugs so many times during your stay.”

• Unclean, poor staff / management.

“I don't expect to get much out of a motel for what I paid, but I do expect it to be clean when I get there. Also, I specified a non-smoking room and got a smoking. I went to the desk four times and dealt with four people, including management, and never got switched to a non-smoking room. I would still go here for the price and the proximity to downtown.”

• Room was old and degraded.

“The hotel has older rooms that functionally maintained, but not kept up to good. The furniture and room were old and degraded. There was no remote for the television in the room and some of the TV buttons were broke. When a remote was requested from the clerk, she could not produce a working device. The hotel has a newer front building with a nice lobby and restaurant that give the illusion of a nice place when first arriving. But, the rooms have not been kept up well for years.”

• Coffee but no coffee maker in my room, too far out of town, a bit shabby.

“I had never done two stars before, so perhaps my sense of it was not realistic, but the North Charleston Inn is basically a motor lodge with a somewhat more polished veneer, but the rooms were all economical and somewhat shabby what I would have called a 1 star motel. The traveling families seemed to enjoy gathering around the pool, though, and free internet access in the rooms makes up for a lot.”

• Filthy room, no towels delivered till 11 p.m. Bug, dirty sheets, not vacuumed floor, hair in sink and tub, 1 hr response time to replace remote.

“I have to get up very early to teach and go to bed at 9:00. I had to wait until almost 11:00 for bath towels to be delivered. I'm not sure anyone cleaned this room, it was just disgusting. Staff was nice, but can't overcome something like this. Bad neighborhood, didn't feel real safe.”

“North Charleston Inn located in North Charleston SC, not a recommended hotel. In the flight path of the airport/Air Force Base. I was placed in an outdated, musty, and old worn out room with two double beds. Bathroom condition was the same. This property is in need of a major update and overhaul. All outside rooms.”

“This hotel is a joke. I arrived with their computers down, two hours after check in time they finally got them working and we got to check in to a room that had not even been cleaned from the previous guest. Got to the second room that smelled horrible, took a nap and woke up to a cockroach sharing the pillow with me. They did move us to a third room one of the beds was missing a leg and totally lopsided, was so tired I just thought oh well I am staying. On a positive there is a security guard on staff. Had strangers knocking on our door throughout the evening and the next morning looking for the previous guests. Very shady! Not recommended especially if you are traveling with children.”

• I liked the friendliness of the staff.
• A roach was in the room. Not very clean, water did not work properly.

“This hotel is perfect for construction workers, or those who want to save money as it is inexpensive. The staff was friendly and helpful. The breakfast was good, but they recently increased the price and I do not think it is worth that much (try the McDonald's next door). On the negative side, the water in the bathroom did not work properly (in either hotel room). If you turn on the hot water at all, it would scald you, and when taking a shower the water would run from the faucet (scalding hot) as well as the shower head (cold). Also, you can forget sleeping in since the maintenance workers use a machine powered by a generator to clean the walkway outside at a little after 7 am.”

• The pool area was fair & it was nice to have refrigerator & microwave in room.
• Someone else's shirt found in my bed.

“A huge turn-off was when we were ready to go to bed & found a woman's shirt crinkled up as I lifted the top sheet on what we thought was our freshly made bed. At 10:00pm upon calling the office, a nice gentleman did bring a new set of sheets out, which we put on ourselves. For our 2 night stay, we kept pondering what else may not have been cleaned. Right behind that complaint is another! The top drawer of the dresser smelled like someone had vomited in it. Between these two things, & some of the dining room lack of hospitable personnel.”

• It was close to Charleston.
• They gave us a smoking room, it reeked with stale smoke.

“We tried to change our room to a non-smoking one since it smelled of stale smoke; however, there were no non-smoking king rooms available either night. Since we had pre-paid I went to Wal-Mart the first night and invested in a complete set of bed sheets, pillows, mattress pad and Oust so we could tolerate the smell which permeated everything.”

“Hotel staff was friendly, conveniently located, furniture was worn (mattress) and I had difficulty securing and opening the door. Birds were chirping very loud throughout the night. I wasn't 100 percent comfortable physically or mentally at this hotel.”

“The hotel had a terrible odor; the rooms were dirty there were bugs in the rooms that were supposedly remodeled. My overall experience was horrible I would never recommend this hotel to anyone.”

• Close to performing arts center, reasonable price.
• Bath needs updating, some outlets didn't work, room wasn't well lit.

“Good value if you just need a place to sleep. Bathroom and vanity area need updating, outlets didn't work in vanity, made it difficult for me to dry/curl hair. (Room #269) room was too crowded with furniture. Mini refrigerator, good idea but wasn't clean.”

• There was no sand in my shower!
• My room needed some repairs from basic wear and tear.

“This hotel was not bad for the price, but there were some things in my room that needed fixing (general upkeep). I think I just got a bad room. The staff is a little disinterested in customers.”

• Breakfast buffet was excellent and only 1.99.
• Cold morning showers, room needed painting.

“Nice location. Only a few blocks from coliseum where my daughter was seeing a concert/did take a cold shower one morning. Breakfast buffet was excellent and fantastic price. Was just an older room. Needed painting. Some lamps did not work. I thought I had read that it had been recently renovated. That is not the case. I personally did not mind the problems it was just that I had my family with me. But we still had a good time. Not saying that this place was bad.”
