“Poor quality hotel for the price and expectation.” Apr 21, 2009 by
Sheleda from Springfield,IL
“This hotel definitely didn't fit the star category. The hotel lobby was nice. They need more staff to help with the front desk because every time we came down there was a long line and the wait was 10-15 minutes. The rooms were average at best (I think we were at the old tower so maybe the other towers are nicer). When we say the room we requested to change but staff told us the hotel was booked. They did give us a coupon for a free breakfast buffet which made me feel a little better. Don't even think you will get to check in before 4 pm. We had to wait right until that time. They also charge a bogus resort fee! Overall I'd say don't waste your time on this one.” Mar 20, 2009 by
Rob from Albany,NY
“I'm not sure whether this place was great or terrible. I loved taking an afternoon nap in the room with the sliding glass door open. The warm salty ocean breeze was fabulous. It really does need updating though. It was classy about 20 years ago. The rooms show wear and aren't as clean as they should be. However, the location was great. Just a few minute walk to Lincoln Road. Beware of the $19 resort fee as well as $39 for parking unless you find street parking or use the lot next door.” Feb 11, 2009 by
Ed from Boca Raton,FL
“Great location, and sitting area with coffee bar.” Sep 13, 2008 by
Betty from San Antonio, TX
“The hotel was fine - nothing fancy but great location for the money. We were disappointed to have to pay a resort fee each day Drinks at the bar was ridiculously priced. The pool area is not nice. Beach access is nice.” Sep 2, 2008 by
Katie from Hamilton, OH
“Great location, nice pool and great beach access. Rooms were not the greatest, mattress was very old and worn down. Mold all over bathroom ceiling, fixtures in shower were broken down. Overall we stayed one night, room served it's purpose.” Aug 18, 2008 by
Santos from San Francisco, CA
“Its great location on South Beach did little to mitigate the total lack of attention given to the bedrooms. We asked two rooms and each smelled of smoke. The mattresses reeked and one shower was unusable as the handle was broken. Both bedrooms had sizeable holes in the sheet-rock giving the rooms an unhealthy slum look. I would never stay at this hotel again and could not recommend it to anyone.” Aug 11, 2008 by
Mari from Philadelphia
“If you want to do SoBe and you are on a budget, this is the hotel for you. It was 3.5 stars. Check-in was a breeze, our room, an oceanfront room with a king size bed and private balcony, was ready and waiting when we arrived at approximately 2pm. The staff was completely accommodating and the room was freshly cleaned and vacuumed. I took a point off for the air conditioning problem, it was not remotely strong enough to combat the 90+ degree heat-- the lobby and common areas were cool, but our room was a tad warm some days, the elevators were always hot, the hallways were always a little warm, etc. According to concierge, the hotel was being closed for a week or two in August to correct the problem. The decor in the room was fun, but definitely not cover material for Better Homes and Gardens. The bathroom was nice and there was ample closet space. We had fresh towels and sheets everyday and our cleaning lady was very nice. The location of the hotel was the absolute best amenity, we were able to walk (and sweat) almost everywhere we wanted to go, from nightclubs to restaurants to shopping (Mango's on Ocean Drive, SoBe Live and Mansion on Washington were GREAT, most of the restaurants on Ocean Drive have happy hours and/or food and drink specials and Walgreen's and CVS are down the street on Lincoln Road. Also, 11th street diner has great food for great prices and Jerry's Deli has the best breakfast). Granted, the resort pales in comparison to the magnificence which is the Loew's hotel just next door. Now that's a real resort, so I had to deduct another point. I have to admit, it was nice to have towels provided, which there were always ample supply, and beach chairs and umbrellas at your disposal. We had a late flight, and checkout was pretty early-- not only did the hotel let us keep our room a little later at no charge, they also stored our luggage until we were ready to go for free. Overall, I went expecting the worst and was pleasantly surprised. You have to have the mentality that this is not a 5 star resort and lower your expectations some and you'll find that it is a cool little spot in a great location. I would probably stay again once they resolve the air conditioning situation, though I would like to stay at the Loews and a little further north on Collins Ave. Oh well, I guess I will have to keep coming back to South Beach. LOLOh Yeah, and do not order from Don Jovani's, they will slip something under your door, the food is awful and it arrives ice cold!” Aug 4, 2008 by
Julie from St Petersbrg, FL
“This hotel was disappointing. I was traveling with my family and the hotel could have been much cleaner. The lobby was ok but the rooms needed a good cleaning and a paint job. The smell of cover up spray was very strong.” Jul 14, 2008 by
Colleen from Tampa, FL
“This was a horrible experience. I got into bed and there was already sand in it. They had not changed the sheets from the previous guest. I called the front desk and asked for the manager. The front desk told me that the manager was busy and would call right back. (They never called.) The housekeeping manager showed up with a maid. When I explained the situation- he told me they did not offer turn down service (I had not asked about that nor had I been in the bed prior) I told him this. He had the maid, remake the bed in front of me (without changing the sheets) he had to tell her to change the sheets. It seems to me that they do not change sheets between guests. This hotel was disgusting!” Jun 3, 2008 by
William from Salina, KS
“For the price, the hotel is overrated. The decor is old and fixtures are out of date. They force you to use valet parking and the bell man. Also, that charge you a additional fee for resort fee.” May 26, 2008 by
Matt from Marietta, GA
“We booked here for one night post-cruise. And overall I'm glad we did and I liked the location. But I am glad that we only had one night there. When we first got to the hotel it looked really nice. The lobby was pretty nice and you could tell that it had been around a while, but was still kept up. That was until we got to our room. They said when we got there they had a 'poolside suite' that was available and we could go ahead and take that one, which at the time sounded good to me. This 'suite' was in a separate part of the hotel and was more of a motel style with doors on the outside. We thought it was weird when we had to go around the gift shop and down a little hallway to get to our elevator. The room was kind of dingy looking, a couple of mold spots in the bathroom and an unexplained puddle on the floor. Looking out our window we had a lovely view of the dumpsters and the term 'poolside' was used rather liberally as while it was on the side of the pool, you couldn't even see the pool unless you walked outside and walked down to the end. The final straw for us in this room was when my wife went to take a shower and the tub was not draining. Luckily they gave us another room on the nicer side of the hotel on the 14th floor. This room was much better, almost like we were staying in a completely different hotel. My only other complaint has to do with our neighbors from that night. These girls came in late from a night out and were slamming doors and talking loudly at 4 in the morning. Very inconsiderate of anyone around them. All in all, it was a great location and while I wasn't particularly crazy about the 'resort fee' it was nice to have wireless internet and guaranteed beach chairs on South Beach.” May 15, 2008 by
Jay H. from Chevy Chase, MD
“Excellent location but poor quality rooms.” May 14, 2008 by
Mark from Shaker Heights, OH
“A very attractive hotel, less than 1 block from the Art Deco district. While info shows it as one block away from the beach, in fact it is right on the beach, just behind the sand dunes. It appears that every room has a pleasant ocean view from their balcony, the length of the hotel is perpendicular to the beach, so when you step out onto the balcony you can see the ocean quite well. The furnishings of the room were rather out of date and worn, but the bed/mattress were very comfortable. The public areas of the hotel are extremely nice. It is a very short walk (probably less than 1/2 block) to the Art Deco district with all the restaurants, etc. available there, and 1 or 2 blocks to the Lincoln Blvd outdoor mall area, so we did not eat at the hotel or visit the bar. The location of the hotel would be hard to beat (the Ritz-Carlton is nearby). We found the staff to be pleasant and helpful. The valet/greeter took the time to discuss parking options and recommended a public garage 1/2 block away that would save us about $20/day vs. the Valet Parking. When we wanted some beach towels at 10:00 p.m. so we could lie on the beach to listen to the surf and look at the stars, the front desk immediately had some brought to us.” May 6, 2008 by
Jose from Milton, MA
“I would say that the room is a 2-star but the facilities are definitely 3-star. Most non-chain hotels charge a resort fee and I expected that from the reviews. The location is fantastic and the staff was very helpful. I arrived in the morning and they pre-checked me in, left my bags with the concierge and changed my room to include a sofa-bed when they saw I had children.” May 4, 2008 by
Gary from Orem, UT
“We were very pleased with the hotel staff, location and rooms that overlooked South Beach.” May 3, 2008 by
Lori from Orland Park, IL
“Room was clean and neutral, but in need of a coat of paint and some renovation (chips and scratches on furniture, cracked sink basin). Our room opened onto a skinny balcony that had a sideways (but clear) view of the beach and ocean. Location was excellent (on beach, nice French bakery and Walgreen's 1 block N on Collins).” Apr 30, 2008 by
Denise from Berwick, ME
“It was our favorite room/hotel of the trip. Awesome view, room, pool, beach, etc. We didn't eat there, but everything seemed great. Also great drinks at the pool bar!” Apr 30, 2008 by
Diane from Glenmoore, PA
“Pool and beach access were great. Staff friendly. The rooms were large and clean, however, spoiled by the very stained carpets.” Apr 28, 2008 by
Mindy G. from Tacoma, WA
“When we got our rooms they were not the two bed rooms we ordered and confirmed twice with the hotel, two weeks before and two days before we got there. The room was old and dirty with stained carpet and broken furniture and only 1 bed in each room. We complained and they moved us to a re-modeled room but it still had only one bed. I was not impressed with this hotel or their staff.” Apr 27, 2008 by
Noe from Rockaway Park, NY
“The hotel room was dirty and in need of new paint and rugs. I've seen cleaner floors at the soccer fields during a rainy day. The additional "resort fees" high and quite ridiculous. The staff was friendly though.” Apr 26, 2008 by
Wayne from Spartanburg, SC
“This hotel is not in good condition. The carpets are stained badly in the hallways and rooms. When we checked in, the hotel added a mandatory $19 extra fee per day for use of the pool. Also, the wireless internet cost extra and did not work (constantly lost connection). All 5 people in my group had the same problems.” Apr 26, 2008 by
Natasha from Stuart, FL
“The hotel was cute, quaint and efficient. It is perfectly located right on Collins Ave., in south beach. We didn't spend much time there though. The view was nice, but I wish the rooms were larger.” Apr 21, 2008 by
Eva from Guelph, ON CA
“The hotel is in a great location on Collins Ave, South Beach, with private access to the beach. It is surrounded by posh hotels, St. Moritz and Loews, but the room we stayed in could use a serious wash down. The carpeting was filthy, black marks on the ceiling, the shower curtain had mold growing on it and the pull-out couch which not meant for sleeping on even though we told the front desk that our children would be sleeping on it. Glad we were only there for 2 nights.” Apr 21, 2008 by
Nancy from Selah, WA
“We were not very happy about the additional fee of 19.00 per night to use the pool, beach, coffee machine in room (the coffee was awful). We had to wait 4 hours to get a room. The manager then stepped in and upgraded us but the room was what I expected a 3 star to have. Another person said the other rooms were really bad. You could hear lots of noise in the hallway, doors shutting, opening, people walking, and water running, just very noisy.” Apr 20, 2008 by
Karrie-Ann from Upper Arlington, OH
“This hotel is what you would expect when you book a La Quinta (in my experience these are generally cheap rooms, uncomfortable beds, and mildly filthy). The sheets were torn, there were holes in the couch, the carpet was filthy, the staff was rude, the bed was not comfortable.” Apr 20, 2008 by
Shez from Gainesville, FL
“Excellent location, but amenities not necessarily reflective of a 4-star rating.” Apr 14, 2008 by
Marsha from Centennial, CO
“Public areas are nice but large resort fee that you have to pay for even if you do not use facilities. Parking outrageously costly.” Apr 13, 2008 by
Julie from Portage, MI
“The hotel is located on Miami Beach but is in poor condition. The lobby area is nice, but the room had trash in the wastebasket, soap (used) in the shower, and there was sand on top of the bed coverlet. The room was in desperate need of a paint job and probably even remodeling. We asked for double beds and a cot a month in advance (we have three children) and had to wait 30 minutes for the woman at check in to find us a room with two double beds, no cot. Thank goodness we only had to stay there one night.” Apr 10, 2008 by
Al from Rochester, NY
“This is a great art deco hotel on a great part of South Beach. The pool was nice with a cool bar area, and you can't beat the beach. While I had an older room, I was surprised with a suite. I was just sorry I did not have my wife with me since I has such a great room. I knew about the $19 resort fee, but it was painful to pay, although there was no charge for internet so that made up half of it.” Apr 8, 2008 by
Steve from Tucker, GA
“This is an excellent hotel for the leisure single traveler or mature adult families, less so for families. It is convenient to South Beach and the beach. Did not use restaurant or bar. The resort charges an excessive daily parking fee ($40) in addition to a resort fee ($19). Request a remodeled room; older rooms are not as nice. Air conditioning was out for the entire floor one night. It was impossible to sleep that night. Staff was generally very helpful.” Apr 7, 2008 by
Peggy from Winthrop, MA
“We were extremely disappointed in this accommodation thinking that it was a 3-1/2 star hotel. Carpeting in room and hallways was very dirty. Elevators were dirty. The manager did try to help but said it is what it is. Bathroom was okay but the door was very dirty. Not a pleasant experience after a long drive.” Apr 7, 2008 by
Jeff from Lafayette, LA
“Upon check in we were advised that we would be charged a resort fee, whether we used the facilities or not. The wireless in room did not work.” Apr 4, 2008 by
Tommy from Baton Rouge, LA
“Nice romantic hotel near a closed off street section which contains many outdoor restaurants, many shops, little entertainment nearby. Parking was not accessible, had to use valet which was ridiculous, $39/day.” Mar 13, 2008 by
Jeremy from Eagan, MN
“The drinks were overpriced, even during happy. $20 for 2 drinks and that was 2-for-1. I wouldn't recommend the hotel to anyone. Luckily we were only there for one night and it was just across the street from the Thrifty we picked our car up from. We got out of there as fast a possible and headed down to Key West.” Feb 25, 2008 by
Shaoquan from Rego Park, NY
“The hotel is OK and the location is great, but the mandatory $19 resort fee. Also the $25+ parking fee. This is more than I expected.” Feb 17, 2008 by
Charles from Waverly, VA
“Bright airy lobby. Two pools. Near both Lincoln Road shops and restaurants and Ocean Drive shops and restaurants. Just steps to the beach. Parking rate was high, so we simply self-parked at parking garage next door at half the hotel rate. We felt fortunate to get this hotel, and they gave us a front ocean view room, which also overlooked the swimming pools from high above.” Feb 16, 2008 by
Jessie from Orlando, FL
“The hotel was very nice. Great location and kid friendly.” Feb 15, 2008 by
Joe from North Brunswick, NJ
“Overall the hotel is in good shape and in an excellent location. The room was acceptable but needs to be upgraded. This is my second stay at this hotel and I would recommend it to others.” Feb 15, 2008 by
Miranda from Portland, OR
“Overall the staff was nice. I had two experiences with rude staff members. Concierge not available at all hours. Room was dirty when we checked in but was cleaned when requested. Modern amenities are available such as wireless. The beach access is great, pools nice, workout equipment decent. Would stay there again but hope to pay less.” Feb 15, 2008 by
Martin from Orlando, FL
“For the price, this hotel was a sure treat. Loved being able to walk to many very good restaurants and bars. Loved the ocean beach. The lobby bar is nothing, a table in a dark corner. So walk to Delano's down the street for great ambiance and pricey mojito - it's worth it.” Feb 12, 2008 by
Cristina from Sugar Land, TX
“The Hotel is great, a bit high price, the parking charge was $39.00 a nigh to much had to park some where else, plus they charge a resort fee of $19.99 for use of pool and chair which we didn't use because when we went to beach was all full, should use different system since any one can use it.” Feb 11, 2008 by
Ahmad from Nutley, NJ
“I have lived in Miami for years and I am familiar with the area and expectations. My first impressions of this hotel were horrible; I was forced to pay a resort fee (explained that everyone has to pay it) for items that I never used. My room had a broken bed, the bed was off the frame and leaning on the floor, I almost hurt my self sitting on the bed because I didn't notice it. They gave me new room, but the TV that can program movies did not work, there was an empty hole under were I think a mini bar once lived. Also, the comfort of the bed is very important to me. It was one of the most uncomfortable beds out there and it had no comforter, just a sheet; and no extra blankets in the room.” Feb 7, 2008 by
Brandon from Crown Point, IN
“I was very disappointed with the $19 a day resort fee that I was charged and was not for warned about.” Feb 7, 2008 by
Bill from Suffolk, VA
“Hotel is modern high rise with good location and helpful desk, but they add a $19 day ($21.47 day including taxes) Resort Fee to agreed room rate. Ambush Fee is mandatory whether you use pool, etc. or not (we didn't).” Feb 7, 2008 by
Marianne from Gardiner, ME
“I was very pleased with this hotel for the price I paid (plus the stupid and misleading resort fee). However, I stayed in an un-renovated room.” Feb 5, 2008 by
Mom from Springfield, VA
“My friends and I had to request a room change three times. In the first room, the carpet was stained in many places and the floor was wet. In the second room, the toilet was leaking and the shower did not drain properly, causing a backup of water ankle-high. In the third room, we were so tired we just took it. The hotel makes the beds in a fashion where the sheets are on top and the comforter is underneath. We know that hotels do not wash the comforters often as it compromises the integrity of the material, so that is not only disgusting but unsanitary. We had to ask for extra sheets to put on the bed and between us and the comforter. When we were escorted to the third room, we asked the manager if he would sleep in the rooms, to which he responded, "No, I wouldnt. If the own hotel manager will not sleep in the rooms, how does he expect clients to do so? There is much improvement that needs to be made to the services.” Feb 1, 2008 by
Amanda from Saylorsburg, PA
“Great location on beach near nightspots and restaurants all in walking distance. Hotel staff extremely helpful and friendly. Got there early and asked if we could check bags. They checked to see if they had a room ready, and let us go right up! We're talking about 5 hours before check-in. Can't beat that! Hotel was beautiful and loaded with amenities.” Feb 1, 2008 by
Bruce from San Diego, CA
“You'll love this hotel, the Royal Palm, for its location, upscale look and value for money. After having been burned on so many South Beach hotels for so many years, this one was a truly joyous experience.” Feb 1, 2008 by
J from Killeen, TX
“This hotel is right in the heart of South Beach. For socializing and taking in the activities of South Beach, it's perfect. The room I got was a suite but it had plenty of space. The "resort" facilities were unimpressive. I would rate this as a 3 star compared to its neighbors.”
