• The staff is very friendly and service is very good. Room is clean and big with comfortable bed.
• The room facility seems to be a little old - the TV remote controller is broken and heating facility makes loads of noise.

• The service and the cleanliness was great.
• No indoor pool but it really didn't bother me.

“The hotel would be great for any traveler it is real close the the JMVC which is the reason we were down there. I would recommend this hotel to anyone staying on that side of Winston.”

• Staff was very attentive.
• Bed was extremely uncomfortable.

“The staff was very attentive. After a 15 hours in the car, the pool was a great spot for the grandkids to burn off some energy. The double beds, however, were very uncomfortable. Breakfast, though not complimentary, was good, and the grandkids ate for free.”

• Very friendly gentleman at counter for check in and hot coffee in the lobby in the am.
• In room coffee was inside a cabinet, and couldn't actually be used because of it's location.

“We stayed for only one night, and did not used any of the amenities. PRO, The gentleman who checked us in was exceptionally friendly. The room was very clean and attractive. Free wireless internet. Coffee in the lobby right by the door was easy to grab on my way out. Con- The in room coffee pot was inside the entertainment center and impossible to pull out and use. The bed was not quite supportive enough for my back.”

• Friendly, clean, responsible, open to hear you for what ever need.
• Nothing.

“The hotel is near the highway, close to the downtown area 10 minutes or less, shopping area, etc. Rooms are clean, beds are good, aircondition is quite and clean, choices of channel TV, use of computer in the lobby, copy and fax. Excellent wire less Internet (free). Some hotel will charge a fee for the use of the Internet.”

• The front desk staff was very friendly and courteous.
• The hotel book said each room had a refrigerator and microwave, I found this not to be true; I lost about $15 worth of food expecting the refrigerator.

“Though they had upgraded the thermostats in the room they still had old air condition units. The room was not very appealing for a weekend get away or lover. It was set up nice for the business traveler but a few additional amenities needed to be added. The lobby/bar area was very tasteful and a lovely place to lounge. The staff was very helpful and courteous, willing to assist no matter the hour. Nice weight room and pool area. The internet stations need to be in an area where there is a little more privacy. There did not seem to be any area for younger children or people with a family; but I may have just over looked this.”

“The Holiday Inn Select University Place is a lovely hotel with very friendly & helpful staff. The pool area is a nicely landscaped recessed area that was clean and relaxing. Workout room was more than adequate. The bar and restaurant were very nice. They have perks for priority members - free drinks at the bar and free water and chips.”

• Lobby was nice, but misleading as to the quality of the room.
• Dusty dirty in areas, mattress was terrible. Amenities not available as suggested. Mildew in Bathroom. 1.5 star at best.

“Upon arrival the lobby seemed appropriate for a three star. As was not expected, the room could have been cleaned much better. Dust dirt on shelves windowsills. Mildew on bottom of door in bathroom. Toothpaste spatters on mirror. I won't go on. Just little things that when added up were too much. All of the amenities such as a robe, optional mini fridge, micro, down pillow, fog free mirror, were all requested by us with the same response, "oh, were sorry but we don't have any available." I have stayed in much cleaner and more accommodating hotels with an economy rating. Also pool needed a good skimming too as many leaves and dead bugs to swim. Staff was nice. But if I had it to do over I would not stay here.”

• Easy access, good bed, clean.
• Lady running the bar (restaurant) was not too clean, turned me off from going there to eat. No information about breakfast in rooms. Needs towel rack.

“Had a pleasant stay. Very nice. No microwave or refrigerator in room. Surprised at no towel rack in the handicap (even though I am not handicap) the towels were simply stacked on the handicap chair for the shower not impressed, did not seem sanitary enough. Great stay other than that slept very well.”

• The staff went out of their way to help us be satisfied with our room and location.
• No free breakfast.

“It was good. It was easily located off the highway. This hotel is great for a business traveler or a small family on vacation. There are a lot of restaurants to choose from, that were very close to the hotel, such as Burger King, Long John Silvers, Pizza Hut, and Steak 'n' Shake.”

• Nicely appointed, spacious, bright and conveniently located.
• Extremely poor service, especially in the restaurant.

“I waited almost an hour for food. Did not get my drink (water) until after I finished my salad. I took my entry to my room. They placed it in heavy room service utensils and did not offer to help me with it. When I tried to put the meal on my room account, it didn't work because when the front desk scanned my credit card, it did not imprint properly. And the food was awful! The hotel itself is beautiful and appropriately rated as a 3-star if you don't count the service.”

• What's not to like other than breakfast a little pricey.

“Excellent room, comfortable bed, friendly staff. This was a wonderful place to end a 600 mile drive. I was amazed at the size or the room. Even though the hotel had a business center the room was large enough for my associate and I to conduct business and strategy sessions. This is my new home away from home in Winston-Salem.”

“Well lets start with there was only one robe and there was two of us we never got a second robe. Every night we had to get our key recoded this is a huge problem, had to take coffee maker out of where they put it for use.”

“My wife and I have stayed in this hotel several times and have found it very comfortable. We do seem to remember that there was an evening reception at one time. Also, some of the literature describes a refrigerator and microwave in the rooms, and this was not the case.”

• Not all equipment in fitness center in working order. Not all rooms have refrig and microwave as brochures suggest.

• The hotel staff was very congenial.
• Small thing. The upstairs hallways were a little too warm (HVAC problem?). Rooms were perfect, though.

• It was still unacceptable the bed had bed bugs. I slept in a chair the first night and the manager would not speak with us we should have gotten our.

“The hotel was terrible, our beds had bed bugs and I expect more from a 3 star hotel. Something more really should have been done and still should be done. Completely unacceptable!”

• My room was non-smoking but hall had Smokey smell.

“This is a nice convenient hotel for the business traveler. It seemed close to many office parks and was right off the highway. The staff was friendly, and the area seemed very safe. There was a nice work out room and most things you would expect in a business hotel.”
