• Location was very convenient to shopping and beach.
• Charged $16/day for things we thought were included!

“Very disappointed with the cleanliness of this "resort" Filthy ice machine room that had broken tile on the floor and mold! Rooms were worn and not cleaned well. Pools had gunk built up along sides. Pool deck was a hazard if you didn't have flip flops or water shoes (nails sticking up, splinters from wood and HOT).”

• Loved the proximaty to the pool, beach, area of town. I LOVED our trip to HHI, and subsequently, love the Westin too.
• There was a cockroach in the lobby when we checked in, wish the room had a mini fridge and blowdryer.

“The hotel was clean and friendly. Everyone working there had accents, and were so professional and friendly. Our atrium balcony overlooked the pools and we could see the ocean. A live band played every evening beach tunes. This resort exudes VACATION. It was very nice.”

• Rooms very clean; pools are nice.

“Views for the beach are not that great, notice the shape of the hotel. You are very far from the ocean itself, even with oceanview room in some cases. Pool service was great, staff very friendly. I probably prefer the marriott in this resort catagory, however, the Westin was a nice stay. Check out is 12:00, liked having the extra hour on Sunday to enjoy the beach before we had to leave.”

• Beach.
• Disconnected service.

“Hotel location is good on the beach, but you have to drive to get to any good restaurants or shopping. I was disappointed in the service. While a very international staff, the sincerity of service wasn't there because of a disconnect with language. One server at the restaurant didn't know how to spell or order the simple 4 white wines on the menu. My discover credit card got compromised while at the hotel (from something in Atlanta weeks ago) and when explaining this to the front desk, she couldn't have cared less. The concierge wasn't very warm or enthusiastic.”

• Lousy layout, had to walk a mile to get to room.

“If you are there for family, not a bad place. Business just keep on going, charged an extra resort fee. Dirty and sandy from all the kids. Business center wiring was all torn up and the staff was not necessarily helpful or courteous”

• Loved staying on the beach.
• The pool was dirty.

“The hotel was very nice. The girl at the check in desk was difficult to understand. Most of the other staff were nice and friendly. The rooms are a very nice size. It was basically pretty clean. A few carpet stains, broken curtain. Unfortunately, there were bugs in the room. Spiders and roaches. Stay would have been much nicer without the bugs. The outdoor pool area was nice. The pool started looking dirty after a couple of days though. Needs to be cleaned more frequently.”

• The Westin was very clean and the atmosphere was great.

“The Westin was a wonderful place to lay our heads at night. It was very clean, the hotel staff was nice and the atmosphere was priceless. We only wish that we could have stayed a few more days. Having a microwave and refrigerator in the room would have been nice.”

• The valets, housekeepers, waiters and Batista's were wonderful! Customer service to the max! Very friendly!
• Room was in disrepair, water damage, peeling paint, front desk staff was not helpful, had to call three times before phone was answered.

“This location was not at all up to the standards I expect from a Westin very disappointing. There was paint peeling on the ceilings and obvious water damage in the room. The room furnishings were very dated and in poor condition. The front desk staff was not helpful, but all other staff was wonderful. The outside amenities were very nice, and did make the visit much better.”

• Beautiful location right on the beach; lots to offer in the area for families.
• Nothing.

“We very much enjoyed our stay at this Westin. We have come to appreciate Westin quality - have stayed in several. This was not the nicest and not the worst, but overall, the people were friendly, the room was clean and comfortable, and the location was amazing. There are three pools at this property - one indoor, one heated outdoor, and one not heated outdoor. Since it was around 72 degrees the few days we were there, we stuck to the heated outside and indoor. No complaints. Would have loved the third to be heated as well - it would have kept the others from getting a little crowded, but at least there was an option for both in and out. Kids had a blast swimming. Plenty of room for the kids to play. Beach chairs appeared to be for rent, but really, we just laid down a towel and claimed a spot. I could see where a beach chair would have been nice and have stayed where they are free and widely available. Restaurant was expensive, but the food was decent the one time we went. All restaurants are expensive in Hilton Head, really, but we like to eat at a variety of places so we only ate on site once. Lobby area is beautiful, room hallways are nicely decorated. All in all, it was a great stay, I would not hesitate to go back. Wish we had more time.”

“Room had spider webs behind the bed headboard. Old spider webs were on the balcony. Room service, breakfast was cold. Coffee bar was empty on Saturday and not everyone paid. The beach was beautiful and the weather was prefect.”

• I loved the amenities and friendly staff.
• I did not like the burn stains on the carpet in our room

“Overall, we were very pleased with our hotel room. The room was very clean (except for the burn stains on our room's carpet-probably hair iron burns). We loved the hot tub, pool, and access to the beach. The towels at the pool for guests to use was nice.”

• The inside pool area was filthy! Several things in our room were broken. Air conditioning, safe, stock bar, etc.

“This hotel has really gone downhill. The grounds, especially pool areas, need to be maintained much more frequently. Had to slam the sliding glass door for the air conditioning to come on. For a Westin, it was really bad.”

• Nice location for a vacation but not for business travelers due to exorbitant resort tax.
• Resort tax is charged regardless if you stay one day or one week. Not explained at the front desk upon check-in. Big problem with this.

“This hotel should not be recommended to business travelers. I had a big problem that I was charged for a resort fee when I was only staying there overnight. Upon check-in I was not made aware of this and I spoke to the manager to have this fee removed as I felt it was totally inappropriate for someone who was only staying overnight to pay a fee like that. They told me it "didn't matter if you stay one day or one week. The fee is the same." This is wrong. Business travelers do not have time to use the resort's facilities. The manager was rude. I know that it is up to his discretion and I explained myself but he would not wave the fee. I will choose to not stay at this hotel ever again.”

• Location on the beach and pool and work out facilities.
• The heavenly bed was not so heavenly and actually hurt my back, not mini fridge only automated mini bar.

“Hotel was clean and staff was friendly only complaints would be the mini-bar automated system and what appeared to be mold around the air vent.”

• Very nice staff that was helpful.
• The food was marginal to good, but expensive.

ok but not worth $32. The breakfast bar was OK. Would stay again.”

• Very friendly staff.
• Did not stock room well, Seafood Salad was actually spoiled (as in dangerous). Two false
  fire alarms in the middle of the night, and no staff.

“Great location right on the beach. Most, if not all, rooms have a beach or partial beach view. Very nice tropical pool and outdoor area. Free Wi-Fi in the rooms. Only negative was the extra resort fee of $14/day.”

• The hotel staff was very friendly.
• This hotel is about to undergo a remodel and it is sorely needed.

“Overall this hotel was ok and mainly because it is very worn. The hallways and common areas were the worst, with carpets in really bad condition, walls needing to be re-painted, and lighting needing to be updated. The rooms were not as bad, although they could use a facelift as well. The hotel was beginning renovations while we were there, which were loud at times and could prove to be a negative for guests in the near future.”

“I did not like that I had to pay a service fee for towels and internet. I used neither and was only a hotel 8 hours! Otherwise, great hotel. Room was great. Service was great. Had a balcony right off the pool.”

“We were quite disappointed with our stay at the Westin. The pool area was filthy with trash from the night before, and there was crud floating in the corners of the pool. Also, the gardener was blowing leaves and debris around as people were arriving at the pool for the day.”

• Hotel was old, carpets need to be replaced, needs paint everywhere, Boring - no music or entertainment.

“I must say, I was disappointed! At first, I thought we landed the top resort on the Island. But we were disappointed. Rooms/hotel is old. It is in need of much repair - paint, new carpet, furniture, etc. It was dark & depressing. The refrigerators had to be brought to your room, and they were from the 1950's! I would never go back to this hotel.”

• I loved the family pool and the proximity to the ocean.
• Staff was unwilling to help, quite snooty.

“I witnessed 2 kids (vomit) in the pool, I told two staff members and even called the next day inquiring if it was taken care of, they claimed that the chlorine and PH levels were fine and no need to have the pool service. We did not use the pool the rest of the stay. Can you say strep and other diseases floating around. Not a thrilling menu at the restaurant but ok enough to avoid leaving the resort.”

• The view from the balcony, the few elevator locations, took a long time to get anywhere.

“The hotel itself is very nice, staffed with friendly and helpful people. It is very clean, spacious, has a nice gym and pool, and is in a good location, close to everywhere we were going. I was expecting to be able to see the beach but couldn't. The hallways are very long and there seems to be few elevators, at one end or the other, which is what makes the hallways so long. Pool area is nice and very family-friendly.”

“My family loves this Westin! We have come the last several years over Labor Day weekend as our last beach trip of the summer. Rooms are very clean and comfortable, nice pools to play in and affordable beach chairs and umbrellas to rent on the beach. We never have to leave the property. We eat lunch outside at the poolside cafe and eat dinner at their indoor/nicer seafood buffet. They have activities for the kids, provide beach towels, internet access, etc. Everything you would expect from a family friendly beach resort!”

• It was quiet, close to the beach and had a 2 large pools.
• Shower drain was stopped up and ramp access was limited.

“The bellmen were rude (counted tips in front of us), we were charged for items removed from the minibar while we were waiting for them to bring us the mini-fridge we had requested for our 1-year-old's milk and food (they did remove the charges when we complained). My biggest complaints are that the shower didn't drain, the quality of the room was not resort-level, and the worst part was the $14 resort fee which they claimed covered things like complimentary self-parking. So basically we're paying $14 for the ability to park our own car, even though they refer to it as complimentary. What a joke! We will definitely not be returning to this hotel, and most likely will not stay at any other Westin.”

“Overall the hotel was clean. Although we were unable to get a ocean view room, we did have a view of the lovely landscaping/pool/fountains in the center of the hotel. I think the best part about the hotel is the staff. They were all very friendly and courteous.”

“My husband and I found the resort to be very pleasant and very private. Everything was stylish and well-kept. The only thing I'd see as old-looking was the brass chandelier. The lobby is scheduled for a renovation this winter, but I don't even think it's really necessary. When we arrived, the front desk guy was very polite and invited us to partake in the putting competition in the lobby. He gave us all the information we needed, including the resort fee I've seen many complaints about. We found that our room was a hike from the elevator, as I've seen commented, but we also were happy to be away from the noise and hustle of the elevator area. We were also between the two different elevators that go to the lobby/parking and the one that goes to the beach, so at least we weren't close to one an.”

• The room was kind of like something from a Comfort Inn.

“The Westin at Hilton Head has a beautiful lobby, excellent indoor and outdoor pools, two fantastic restaurants and direct access to the ocean. It made for a great vacation! The only disappointment was the room itself. It wasn't unclean or run-down or anything- it was simply blah. It didn't match the first impressions you got in the other parts of the resort at all. The decor in the room looked to be at least 10-15 years old. Overall, I would stay there again, as their facilities are top notch. Hopefully they get some money together to renovate their rooms. Do beware of unexpected expenses if you're on a budget- $14/day resort fee, you're expected to tip nearly any staff you say three words to and their parking lot is quite a walk from the entrance, so valet parking is recommended ($15/day). The location is also near most of the great restaurants and shopping in the area.”

“Several problems with the room, the balcony over looked a lovely dumper full of garbage, light fixture over bathroom sink looked like it was ready to fall, phone jack was not in the wall and was hanging by its wires. At check out our bill was slapped with a daily $14.00 resort fee (plus tax) which was a big surprise. Why not inform the guest of that at check-in?”
