• Great location, great service, large room.
• This hotel needs to be renovated. Fresh paint and carpet could do a lot! Also, there were dogs everywhere and their droppings as well.

“The hotel was nice for a family stay. However, paint and carpet and redo the pool area and it would make it a lot nicer. You can tell it was a nice place to stay several years back, but they have not done any up keep on it.”

• It took a while for someone to wait on us for food and drinks.

“Overall this was a great experience. Friendly and very helpful staff. In fact the staff assisted us with attaching a travel hitch to our vehicle. We did not even ask, they just volunteered. It was an overall good experience for the grownup as well as the children. I would recommend this hotel.”

• Room was larger than rooms in other hotels visited recently.
• Air conditioning didn't work properly and nearly froze us out of the room.

“The air conditioning that didn't work properly made for a very bad experience. It was set to 70 degrees and ran without stopping. Also, they have mini-bars in the room that charge you if you pick up a drink or snack.”

• Great staff and wonderful bed.
• Restaurants overpriced and while the hotel is oceanfront, it's a hike to the beach.

“The hotel was very family friendly; this is great if you have kids but not so great if you are traveling with your spouse or loved one. Staff was exceptional and hotel was very attractive inside and out. A downside to such a large hotel, however, is the fact that you almost needed a GPS to navigate your way around and it was a good walk to the closest spot of clear sand on the beach.”

• The beds and bedding looked new and were very comfortable.
• The elevator to the 4th floor was on the opposite side of the lobby and the hotel was like a horseshoe so we had to walk a long way from the lobby.

“For the price we were very pleased. The room was clean. The elevator needed improvement. Staff was very friendly. The pool area was large with lots of chairs. They allowed us to stay after we checked out on Sunday to use the facilities and had a very nice restroom with showers, towels, hair dryers, etc in the workout room.”

• I liked the location on the beach.
• They seemed a little strict by telling us to wear a bracelet at the beach to identify us hotel residents, but we saw a lot of people without them.

• Staff was very willing to accommodate the needs of our family.
• Restaurant prices unreasonably high.

“The staff was very accommodating in changing our room from a king to two doubles since we had our two teenage children with us. The facilities were wonderful. Ocean front, pool, restaurants on site. Pricey restaurants though! I would definitely return for an extended stay.”

• Beautiful grounds and pool area, public spaces are nice.
• Rooms need to be updated, they put us in the worst room in the hotel.

“The hotel had our room when we walked in the door, an Island view with two double beds, located right next to four rooms which were undergoing renovation. The noise from the renovations was deafening, so we requested a room change, which they did honor. The hotel should never have put us (or anyone) in a room next to a room in which loud renovations are going on. The room they moved us to was away from the renovations; the renovations are needed, because the room was worn and the fixtures need to be replaced. However, the hotel grounds, pool and beach area are beautiful.”

• A beautiful beach resort with wonderful pools, public areas, and right over the dunes to the ocean.
• Could use a bit more going on in the evenings.

“Great location, comfortable rooms, incredibly comfortable bed, room was of good size and tasteful, lobby area was spacious and well kept, staff was extraordinarily friendly, the pools were of good size and well kept, landscaping added to the warm feel of the place, the ocean was just a few steps over the dunes, the beach was uncrowned and beautiful, parking was close and convenient, takes a touch of effort to reach other places on the island, but no less convenient than any other resort, evenings would have benefited by a bit more effort to provide even a touch of entertainment live or otherwise. Overall a great experience that I believe most anyone would enjoy. Beach lovers who enjoy the benefits of exclusive access to a beach area will particularly enjoy this resort.”

• Concierge was not as knowledgeable as we expected.

“I enjoyed our stay. It is so relaxing out by the pool with live entertainment. You don't have to get out of your chair if you don't want to. The staff at Turtles will get everything that you need. I will be back!”

• The rooms looked dirty and like they needed to be updated.

“The hotel itself was nice, especially the grounds and the pool area. They have daily activities for children and lots of sun chairs with shade or sunny spots on the deck. The restaurant has indoor and outdoor seating and the food was good. Their breakfast buffet offers many choices and seems reasonable for a late morning brunch.My real complaint is about the rooms. While the public areas seemed spotless, the rooms looked worn out and dirty. The "spa robe" that was provided in our room was thread bear and there was actually a 3cm hole under one of the arms. Not so classy. There were stains on the carpet and there was a dead roach on the floor in our bathroom when we checked in. On our second day in the hotel, after our room was cleaned, I noticed the bug and pointed it out to my husband. He informed me that he had seen it the day before, but did not pick it up. Makes you wonder how well their staff is cleaning the rooms. As an aside, I don't know why a mini-bar with $5 bottles of aquafina is offensive, but it is to me. I guess it seems that room-rate should include a bottle of water after you pay to stay at a high-end resort (and you pay the $14 a day "resort fee"). The only fridge in the room is a fully stocked mini-bar. If you move any of the items around in it in order to fit your own things (like milk for a baby) you will get charged for the over-priced mini-bar items. Honestly, I would expect "resort" style room to automatically be fitted with a refrigerator that you can use instead of making you call the front desk and beg for one. 2 months ago I stayed at another resort in Hilton Head (the Hilton at Palmetto Dunes) and unfortunately, this location was no were near as nice as the Hilton.”

• A $15.00 resort fee per day was added to our room. Would have been nice to know about this fee in advance while check-in.

“We were happy with our stay, we had an extra $15.00 resort fee that we were not aware of. If we were going to have a long stay this could have really added up.”

“The hotel was no where near the quality of other hotels we have stayed at in Hilton Head. The Westin needs an upgrade. The hotel also tried to charge us a $14/day resort fee on top of our room rate. They said it was for using the hotel's staff, having coffee in our room, etc. We fought it and got it taken off but there is no way they should charge those types of fees. I have recommended the place to all of my friends and family.”

“All in all this place was pretty nice. It's in need of updating as the carpet in the halls is very out of date and shows a lot of wear. The rooms were alright. Nothing fancy but not lacking anything (except a safe). Several pools, close to the beach and beautiful from the outside.”

“We really enjoyed our stay at the Westin. It was in a great location and overlooked the ocean. Our room view wasn't the greatest but that is because we checked in a little late. The kids loved the pools and we loved the poolside drinks and food. The staff was nice and helpful. There was only one night that the people below us were a little loud, but other than that it was a very nice vacation!”

• The courtyard is very nice, bike rentals on site.
• The hidden $14 resort fee.

“You can rent bikes at the health club. You can walk about a mile North to the end of the island to catch the sunrise. The courtyard is pleasant to look at. The room is a nice size with a nice balcony. The balcony would have been perfect if it had better furniture. The refrigerator was only for the $5 waters and drinks. No microwave. Both of these were disappointments for a resort. One thing bothered me and other people when we were checking out. There was no prior notice of a $14 + $1.20 tax daily Resort Fee. I only had one night but the principle of it bothered me. For the other folks, it added up to a nice amount and each person was unaware of this charge until they checked out. I asked what this fee was for and was told that it was for the pool and health club. I thought that these things were part of the room charges. I felt this fee should have been included in the room charge. I would recommend staying here.”

“This could be a great hotel. It has a fantastic location on the beach, a nice pool and lots of activities for kids. Unfortunately, the quality of the rooms leaves a lot to be desired. Our room was fairly spacious but the carpet was spotted and stained, walls were dirty and scratched up (we even had a piece of gum stuck to the wall next to one of the beds.) The bathrooms are aging and we had mildew in our shower but even worse, and impossible to fix, is that the walls of the rooms are paper thin. We could hear every word that our neighbors said and everything that was said by passersby in the hallways. We asked to be moved but were told the hotel was sold out. After we inquired about canceling our remaining stay, a larger room opened up (at a premium of course).”

“Overall this was a nice place to stay. I was very disappointed that a shuttle was not available to get to other parts of the island. To go out to dinner, It cost $48 for cab fare alone. The beach was nice. I don't play golf so I don't know about the course.”

“Overall, a nice hotel but further out from the main drag of Hilton head than I expected. Too few outdoor parking spaces, especially when hosting an event (i.e. wedding). Elevators need remodeling as they have an old and tired look/feel. Some rooms quite a distance from the lobby. Lobby area nice and a daily 5-7 p.m. Happy hour with good drink prices and indoor putting surface a good touch. Save for the elevators a well maintained property.”

“Everything about this hotel was fabulous. The bell hop gave our son a gift for his birthday, the hotel sent 4 cupcakes on a plate that said happy birthday, and the concierge recommended a nice place to eat and gave coupons for miniature golf. The music at the pool in the afternoon was great.”

• Soft bed sheets and blankets. Right on the beach. Very nice hotel service people at the hotel.
• Very nice no negative.

“Clean soft sheets and blankets and pillows. The bed felt so nice. Also, there was under hotel parking with an elevator for easy access to our hotel room and very easy access to the beach. Pool area was spread out and very private.”

• Our room was close to elevators. Children were very noisy late pm, early am disturbing our sleep.

“Great resort - will go back. Kids were too noisy between 11pm-4am throughout the floor, Service at Carolina cafe-casual restaurant was average. I would expect better service from a place that charges $9 for drinks and $25-40 for entries. Eat outside hotel if you can. Go when kids are in school, not on vacation.”

“The hotel had a nice location and many amenities (however it was impossible to find a chair at any of the four pools or sundecks. The rooms were small but sufficient, clean but aging.”

• Could not provide us with a microwave because we were not priority guests.

“We found the Westin a very nice hotel from the rooms to the pool area to the beach. For the most part the staff was very friendly and helpful. The day we checked in the room wasn't ready so when we came back the front desk manager gave us complimentary dinner for all four of us at the Carolina Cafe. That was a very nice touch.”

• The room was small, fixtures and carpet needs updating.

“Overall a decent property, the rooms appear to need updating. The hallways were always really warm like the A/C wasn't working. Great location, nice pool area, nice gym and bike rental on site. Would recommend it to friends and families but as I mentioned the rooms were on the small side and need updating.”

• Poor housekeeping very poor maintenance staff.

“I would not recommend this resort. We were treated poorly when we had issues with the safety of the room. The fire sprinkler was wrapped in tape and could not have functioned in a fire. The security bar for the patio door was completely broken. We then tried to contact the front desk and the phone was not working. The tub was filthy and the linens were torn. We lost a day of our vacation trying to get another room at the resort and seemed to get the run around from the hotel staff.”
