- It has a great location with beach access and a poolside bar.
- The hotel charges a hidden fee that is mandatory for basic accommodations including pool and coffee service.
“The Crowne Plaza Resort in Hilton Head, SC is a beautiful facility with very nice rooms and views. The hotel staff is helpful and friendly. There is beach access and the hotel rents beach equipment including chairs, umbrellas, and towels. The hotel charges it's guests a hidden fee of $12/day ($24 total for one nights stay) for basic accommodations that one would expect from even a low-class Motel 6, such as coffee in the morning and access to a pool. It reminded me of the airlines charging for peanuts and a pillow on a 7 hour flight. The result of the extra fee is that I am unimpressed with the resort overall.”

- The layout of the hotel was nice surrounding the pool area and the ocean access.
- Restaurant prices were expensive for a family of 4. $56.00 for the breakfast buffet not including tip.
“Hotel staff was super friendly! Pool area and proximity to the ocean were a definite plus and the reason that we stayed. The concierge was very helpful even though we had limited time for activities.”

“Resort grounds are beautiful and have beach access (you have to purchase a separate parking pass to be able to park in the resort's beach parking lot which adjoins the guest parking but has guardhouse! Makes no sense!) Lobby and plantation grounds are absolutely gorgeous. Gift shop was great and the prices weren't bad. Both rooms were average. Not including the mini-bar ($7 mini bottles!) We thought it was thoughtful that they leave a complimentary sleep kit (soothing sounds CD, ear plugs, and an eye mask) on your bed.”

- The restaurant needs some major changes, poor wait staff and organization for the price.

- The service bordered on poor and help not quick to resolve matters.
“The hotel overall was nice, grounds, pool, room, and restaurants. The service was poor. The bathroom was not clean when we arrived. Room service was very late every day, they did not clean until 3:30-4.00, at which time we back for the day and didn't want the disturbance. We were told we had a resort view and we had an air conditioner view. Our TV went out and there was an oh-well attitude.”

- The staff was the friendliest staff at any hotel I have ever stayed at.

- The location is great!
- Concierge was rude and not very helpful.
“The location is great. Be careful in asking them to book your golf though. Beyond this it is a great place. No ocean front views. Food is overpriced, and not of the best quality, but typical of a regular hotel. Although I seem harsh in this write up, I would return. Enjoy the island and the location for a steal. Beware of the $12 resort fee per night. Didn't effect me but it did the couple behind me who were staying for a week. I give it 4 stars for service and 5 stars for location.”

“Overall the hotel was fine. Our balcony was not in good shape. The furniture was dirty and outdated. I enjoy the Patio for reading in the early morning when everyone else in my room is still asleep. I missed out. Housekeeping cleaned our room at 4:00 in the afternoon. It was a bit late since we had been at the beach and wanted to head out for the evening. The hotel is older but maintained nicely. We enjoyed our stay at the pool and on the beach. Great pool drinks too.”

- Front desk staff was rude, but he did get called out from his break.

- Bellhop and front desk staff; beautiful grounds.
- Bathroom floor needs scrubbing; shower tiles had mold.
“We are repeat visitors at the Hilton Head Island for a Spring Break trip with an 11 and 13 year old. The hotel is still a great hotel, but is starting to look a little tired and outdated in certain places. The sliding glass doors should be replaced with patio doors, the deck furniture and deck was dirty, hall wallpaper is outdated. The grounds are beautiful and are great for walking, lounging and a quick walk to the beach. It is truly a place to relax and not leave for a day. The hotel staff is stellar, especially the night bellhop who greeted us after a long ride from Atlanta.”

- The location was very good. The wait staff was friendly and helpful. The grounds around the resort were beautiful.
- There was no information about a spa and no outdoor hot tub.
“The resort fee was $12.00 and we did not get anything more than what a 2 star hotel offers. The rooms were recently renovated and nice. The staff was friendly but that is expected at a resort quality location.”

- This hotel grounds were manicured beautifully and the staff was very pleasant.
- The balcony of our room faced the roof of the adjacent building. Extremely loud all the time from HVAC units.

- The outdoor area was beautiful and the staff was very eager to please.
- The housekeeping staff was rude.
“My stay was quiet and enjoyable. However upon arrival the "clean" bathroom was still dirty - hair in the tub. The floors were not properly vacuumed either - evidence of the prior guest. Housekeeping and/or maintenance only do one round of clean up - food from someone's dinner or a spill in the elevator would remain until the following day. Not very appealing to the eye. Having stayed at other resorts - this does not compare. Three stars at best.”

- I loved that it had a kitchenette, microwave, toaster and coffee pot, small fridge.
- The menu is pricey at the pool and limited to just a few things.
“Love the location, staff friendly, and gate staff not so polite, very abrupt. Parking cost $6 per car per day, we had two cars. I hated that, the Marriott and Westin as well as Crown Plaza do not charge parking. Boutique staff not nice at all, very curt, I had my kids, she did not realize they were with me and was very rude, they were not misbehaving, just looking.”

The extra charges and taxes added a lot to our overall bill, so we were not thrilled with that. - Beautiful outdoor pool and garden areas.
- Our room overlooked the roof and a bunch of air conditioners.
“The resort exceeded our expectations. We thoroughly enjoyed strolling the gorgeous grounds each morning with our complimentary coffee. The service was excellent. We needed to check in early in order to get ready for an afternoon wedding and they were very accommodating. Our only complaint was that it was very cool (high 50s/60s) and we would really like to go when it is warm (we stayed in early March).”

- I liked the outside pool and porch, before you get to the beach.
- I did not like how small the room was, and it did not have a refrigerator or a good view.
“This hotel was not as nice as it seemed online. The hotel was priced to high for what it was really worth. I stayed at a Comfort inn and suites with a bigger room, a better view, and a kitchenette for a better deal. I was very disappointed with the resort.”

- Nice shower head, friendly front desk staff.
- Minimal parking (unless you valet), toilet seat was broken, hair on the bathroom floor and in two of the towels.
“When I called to inquire on the ability to have a crib in my room and 2 double beds, I was told "you did book this through a 3rd party and I can't guarantee you anything". It was just a request. This comment make me feel very little. We usually stay at the Westin or Main Street Inn on our trips to HH, but since we had some friends staying at this hotel we decided to give it a shot. If my stay wasn't nonrefundable I would have canceled right then. On a lighter note, once we arrived the front desk staff was very knowledgeable and friendly!”

- No microwave or mini-fridge.
“The hotel is conveniently located on the beach, with ample parking. There is a resort fee charged ($12/day) for the in-room coffee packets, the pool, and exercise room. Yes, the same things a Comfort Inn gives for free. Wireless Internet costs $9/day, in-room wired access is free. The room was a good size, though the tub was very small (even for my 4'11" 105lb wife). No microwave or mini-fridge (there is a mini-bar with $2 candy bars). All in all, very pleasant, but nothing special.”

“Wonderful experience. Great location with easy beach access. Beautifully landscaped grounds with lagoons, pools, etc. Rooms are spacious. Ours with King bed and pull-out sofa. Even with the mandatory resort fee of $12.”

- If have allergies like me. There was something in the room, I don't know if it was the carpet or the air conditioner but I still sick.

- Had to pay an upgrade fee to get a non-smoking room.
“This hotel is perfectly fine. It's safe, modern and comfortable. It is a resort but they are stingy with the benefits; although you get free in-room make it yourself bathroom coffee, and free wired internet in your room, you don't get a robe and there is no happy hour reception. I had to pay a $20/day upgrade fee to get a non-smoking room.”
