• Nice pool and beach facilities.
• Rooms could use some updating and better attention to cleanliness.

“The first night room was small and it was a handicapped room. It was extremely disappointing. They also provided complimentary appetizers each day the remainder of our stay. Overall, the first night was very aggravating but the staff did a good job of trying to remedy the situation thereafter.”

• I loved the location, the beach is absolutely gorgeous.
• I did not like being charged $30 per day to rent a beach chair.

“Overall, this was a great hotel to stay at. The rooms were nice and the staff was friendly. I did not like having to pay to rent a beach chair. This was supposed to be a resort, and we were paying the $12 per day resort fee per room on top of the room fees. Wireless internet was also available at a charge. It's just the principal.”

“It was right on the beach and the rooms were nice. There was even a small bottle of wine and an appetizer salad in the room when we arrived.”

• Room cleanliness, $12 resort fee, everything was extra.

“The room cleanliness left much to be desired. Mold in the shower and during our 5-day stay, the sheets were changed only once. The room was never tidied, only the towels were picked up and replaced. Trash left out on the balcony stayed there until we left. Our room had a tiny balcony with a nice view of the parking lot. We requested an upgrade and waited over an hour for a non-smoking room with a view. The view was much better, the balcony a little larger, but the non-smoking room came complete with two ashtrays and a lovely aroma; although they insisted it was non-smoking. The $12 resort fee is ridiculous. The location is good and just a short walk to the beach. Definitely a family atmosphere. Staff is friendly, too, but I would not stay here again. Everything is extra. Not a great value for the price.”

“Absolutely wonderful memories of our trip to Hilton Head. This resort is on the ocean and has the most beautiful grounds complete with hammocks, exotic flowers, pond with turtles (the kids loved that) and a beautiful view of the ocean. Incredible experience. Rooms were clean and well-maintained. Not a single complaint from us! We will definitely return next summer!”

• This is a very family friendly resort. It is safe, convenient, has good food, and good activities for my younger children.
• The bathroom could have been a little nicer.

“I would definitely recommend this resort to any family looking for a great beach vacation. The beach area is nice, with two lifeguards during the day too. There is also a very nice pool. The restaurants are nice, clean, and serve good food. Shipyard is a very family friendly, safe area to stay, with lots of nice walking and biking paths and great scenery. The room was comfortable and clean.”

• The elevators were very slow and they tack on a resort fee.

“Great location. The rooms were comfortable and quiet. You can either valet or self park. The staff was friendly and helpful. I would recommend this location to a friend.”

• The balcony door locked when we shut it and we were locked out !

“We went out to the balcony of our hotel room and closed the door behind us, not knowing that the balcony door locked automatically when it closes. So, we were locked out for 2 hours until we got someone who luckily walked by and informed the hotel staff. Then, after 30 minutes of banging like cops on TV, they finally got our hotel room door opened and unlocked us from the balcony. There was no warning sign or anything on the balcony door, etc. The rooms were not all that clean or comfortable. The bathroom tub had previous guests hair and other particles, we also killed a spider on the bed. However, the location was great! Beautiful public areas, landscaping and great beach location.”

“I truly enjoyed having the beach and the pool right there on the premises, Also, having the bike rentals right next to the pool allowed us to leave all of our stuff at the pool so when we came back we can go straight for a dip instead of having to go upstairs to fetch our stuff. Hilton head has so much to offer if you would like to leave the resort but really you don't have to. The crown resort has it all!”

“Hotel is very nice. $12 daily fee is a little ridiculous considering the cost per night. Pool, towels, internet service should already be included in the price. I didn't even have a computer with me, but had to pay for the service?. I would stay again due to location and the atmosphere. I'd just deal with the daily fee.”

• It has a great location with beach access and a poolside bar.
• The hotel charges a hidden fee that is mandatory for basic accommodations including pool and coffee service.

“The Crowne Plaza Resort in Hilton Head, SC is a beautiful facility with very nice rooms and views. The hotel staff is helpful and friendly. There is beach access and the hotel rents beach equipment including chairs, umbrellas, and towels. The hotel charges it's guests a hidden fee of $12/day ($24 total for one nights stay) for basic accommodations that one would expect from even a low-class Motel 6, such as coffee in the morning and access to a pool. It reminded me of the airlines charging for peanuts and a pillow on a 7 hour flight. The result of the extra fee is that I am unimpressed with the resort overall.”

• The layout of the hotel was nice surrounding the pool area and the ocean access.
• Restaurant prices were expensive for a family of 4. $56.00 for the breakfast buffet not including tip.

“Hotel staff was super friendly! Pool area and proximity to the ocean were a definite plus and the reason that we stayed. The concierge was very helpful even though we had limited time for activities.”

“Resort grounds are beautiful and have beach access (you have to purchase a separate parking pass to be able to park in the resort's beach parking lot which adjoins the guest parking but has guardhouse! Makes no sense!) Lobby and plantation grounds are absolutely gorgeous. Gift shop was great and the prices weren't bad. Both rooms were average. Not including the mini-bar ($7 mini bottles!) We thought it was thoughtful that they leave a complimentary sleep kit (soothing sounds CD, ear plugs, and an eye mask) on your bed.”

• The restaurant needs some major changes, poor wait staff and organization for the price.

“This was a great experience for my wife and me. Great location, nice pool and great access to the beach with outstanding beach service as well. I will stay here again, but will not eat in the restaurant. There are far better restaurants close with better food and much better service.”

“The hotel overall was nice, grounds, pool, room, and restaurants. The service was poor. The bathroom was not clean when we arrived. Room service was very late every day, they did not clean until 3:30-4.00, at which time we back for the day and didn't want the disturbance. We were told we had a resort view and we had an air conditioner view. Our TV went out and there was an oh-well attitude.”

• Concierge was rude and not very helpful.

“The location is great. Be careful in asking them to book your golf though. Beyond this it is a great place. No ocean front views. Food is overpriced, and not of the best quality, but typical of a regular hotel. Although I seem harsh in this write up, I would return. Enjoy the island and the location for a steal. Beware of the $12 resort fee per night. Didn't effect me but it did the couple behind me who were staying for a week. I give it 4 stars for service and 5 stars for location.”

“Overall the hotel was fine. Our balcony was not in good shape. The furniture was dirty and outdated. I enjoy the Patio for reading in the early morning when everyone else in my room is still asleep. I missed out. Housekeeping cleaned our room at 4:00 in the afternoon. It was a bit late since we had been at the beach and wanted to head out for the evening. The hotel is older but maintained nicely. We enjoyed our stay at the pool and on the beach. Great pool drinks too.”

• Front desk staff was rude, but he did get called out from his break.

“This was a fabulous experience. I was a little hesitant about the hotel, but was pleasantly surprised. Very short walk to the beach and great pool. They had a fabulous seafood buffet on Saturday!”

• Bathroom floor needs scrubbing; shower tiles had mold.

“We are repeat visitors at the Hilton Head Island for a Spring Break trip with an 11 and 13 year old. The hotel is still a great hotel, but is starting to look a little tired and outdated in certain places. The sliding glass doors should be replaced with patio doors, the deck furniture and deck was dirty, hall wallpaper is outdated. The grounds are beautiful and are great for walking, lounging and a quick walk to the beach. It is truly a place to relax and not leave for a day. The hotel staff is stellar, especially the night bellhop who greeted us after a long ride from Atlanta.”

• The location was very good. The wait staff was friendly and helpful. The grounds around the resort were beautiful.
• There was no information about a spa and no outdoor hot tub.

“The resort fee was $12.00 and we did not get anything more than what a 2 star hotel offers. The rooms were recently renovated and nice. The staff was friendly but that is expected at a resort quality location.”
