“First, the positives. The hotel is conveniently located on the beach with easy beach access. It's also a great location on Hilton Head Island, across the street from Shelter Cove Harbor shopping and dining and other family entertainment. The hotel has two pools (a very large outdoor pool and a smaller indoor pool that is not nearly as crowded). The hotel also seems very family friendly and had activities for children. Now, the cons: The parking lot is too far from the hotel entrance. Travelers have to haul their luggage uphill at least 200 yards to enter the hotel (amazingly, no elevator access from the parking lot for guests, but there is if you're a hotel employee). Secondly, there are only three elevators serving all ten floors of the hotel. Sometimes guests would have to wait ten minutes for an unfilled elevator to arrive. Further, the beach/pool towel process was confusing and we were not informed as to how it works until the final day of our stay. Apparently, you receive a towel card that entitles you to two towels per card. You give the card to an attendant when you collect the towels and return the towels to a dirty hamper when done but you are never given a card in return. It wasn't until we had no remaining towel cards and tried to get towels that we were informed as to how the process works (make sure you ask for a card upon returning towels). Finally, our room assignment was less than desirable. While the hotel has numerous rooms with beautiful panoramic beach views, our room had a great view of the distant parking lot and roof tops of adjacent buildings.”

“This is our second stay at the Marriott Resort. Both visits were great. Last year we brought the kids, this year we didn't. The staff is great and very attentive for both types or trips.”

• Nice location directly on the beach and not far from main roadway in Hilton Head.
• Too crowded, $10 a day to self park, treated poorly.

“First they sent me to a Handicap room which smelled bad. Then they moved me to an ocean view room which was nice. Then I got a call from the front desk which said a mistake was made and they had to move me again. They were not going to give me an ocean view room. So I had to move 3 times. The final room was ok but a little too dirty and the door would not close without pushing hard. Parking was difficult and crowded. Overall, I was very unhappy with this stay and would not want to stay there again.”

• The balcony was dirty when we arrived and was not cleaned at all in the 4 nights we stayed.

“They originally put us in a room that was a very bad rooftop view and very noisy because it was above the hotel restaurant and bar area. We complained, and they moved us to a nice ocean-view room in the south building. Very quiet and comfortable.”

• Everything was absolutely beyond perfect.
• Parking cost $10 per day for self park.

“This is the best hotel on Hilton Head Island. I have also stayed at the Crowne Plaza and although a perfectly fine hotel. It could not hold a candle to the perfect experience the Marriott offered. I cannot say enough about how pleased we were and I have stayed at many 3 and 4 star hotels. Perfect staff, perfect pools, perfect scenery, absolutely gorgeous, comfortable and a spectacular price.”

• The front desk manager was very good.
• On arrival, they put us in a room next to freight elevator.

“Too many families with too many kids and not enough elevators. Overall, a pleasant experience, but not great. After discussing the freight elevator situation with front desk manager, she gave us an ocean front room which was very nice.”

• It is beautifully situated on Hilton Head Island, and I have stayed at many other locations. Very impressive entrance and convenient parking.
• I really had no complaints. our room was not with a good ocean view. It was off to the side and you had to be on the lane to see the ocean,.

“Overall this was a wonderful place to say the pool deck was amazing and we had a wonderful stay. I would highly recommend the hotel to others. No air conditioning in elevators which I found unusual. But a great place all in all.”

• Lovely pool area and beachfront.
• Guests reserved pool chairs by placing towels in the middle of the night so it was often difficult to find seating even though there were many empty.

“Despite the humidity of the summer, my family of five greatly enjoyed the warm ocean waves and the lovely pools at this hotel. We took advantage of tennis lessons, boat rentals for fishing and bike rentals to check out the local neighborhoods. Excellent restaurants were plentiful and within 10 minutes of the hotel. Highly recommended.”

• The room had problems (bad wall sockets, TV old, odor).

“The motel is a very good location on Hilton Head Island. Our room had a lot of maintenance needed such as two wall sockets almost came out of wall, outdated TV, musty odor, drinking glasses were dirty had to exchange, tissue box was empty. The bed was very comfortable with lots of pillows and down bed spread. Plenty of towels in bath room. When I ask if their was another room I was told that the motel was sold out. I don't think so.”

• The hotel was very family friendly and the staff was so friendly.
• Parking fees are ridiculous and restaurant prices are not justified for the quality of the food.

“Overall, we had a wonderful experience with this hotel. The pools were wonderful, it was right on the beach, and the service was excellent. Our room had an ocean view, which we weren't expecting at all. Highly recommend this hotel and we will definitely go back.”

“This hotel was attractive, had a great location, and great staff. The only bad things we experienced were a very dirty comforter. At times we had to wait 10+ minutes to get on the elevator as there were only 3 available. We would have used the stairs more had our room not been on the 9th floor.”

• Great location, friendly staff, nice activities for the kids, waterslide, etc.
• Rooms at this level should have refrigerators and microwaves. The pool deck was not as clean as it should have been and more shade is needed.

“Great! They forgot to send up rollaway and I had to call back to get it. They quickly solved the problem and not only called to apologize but sent up an apology note and some candy gifts which more than made up for their oversight. Staff was very friendly and helpful. Property was very pretty and kid friendly.”

• Paying for parking when we were staying in the hotel.

“We enjoyed our stay. The kids were thrilled with the free lemonade in the lobby and wanted to go to the lobby every afternoon for it. The beach was beautiful. The room was very nice. We had an Island view. But we still could see the beach. The pool was incredibly crowded. The hammocks were a nice treat. Only downside was not knowing I had to pay for parking. $10 for self and $18 for valet.”

“Beautiful 5 star resort directly on the beach in Palmetto Dunes Plantation in Hilton Head. Great pool, health club, restaurants everything needed for a fantastic beach vacation. We were upgraded to ocean front room and view was priceless.”

• Very friendly staff that worked to quickly answer your questions/needs.
• Parking is downhill of the lobby entrance, though valet parking is available it is expensive.

“We enjoyed a pleasant stay. Staff were extremely friendly. When waiting in a short line at the front desk, employees monitored the line to see if they could answer questions or needs of the guests. The pools and beach are very nice. We wish there had been a cut through from the parking lot with beach gear directly to the beach rather than having to go through the lobby. Elevators were extremely slow.”

• Friendly staff, comfortable beds, location right on the beach, all amenities within easy reach.
• Gave us a bad view (completely obstructed by the wall and roof).

“First class hotel with friendly staff and all the amenities. Super helpful and friendly concierge, doormen, bellhops, and front desk staff. Complimentary lemonade and citrus water in the lobby, which was welcome in the South Carolina heat. Spa on premises. Very nice fitness center will all your needs. not just a treadmill and some Power Bloc weights. This one had a full set of dumbbells, resistance training equipment, elliptical, recumbent bike, upright bike and treadmills. Bike rentals nearby, several restaurants, shops and the beach, out your back door, with a full bar. We will be back to Hilton Head Island and we will definitely be back to the Marriott Resort and Spa.”

• No frills, loud pool area, small workout room for size of hotel.

“Great location, accessible to all the good restaurants and tennis. the pool area is overrun with children and loud music, so it is great if that is what you are looking for. The maid service was spotty, our room did not get cleaned until well after 3:00 in the afternoon. The balcony had bird all over, so we did not spend much time enjoying our view of the ocean. Lastly, we were on the 3rd floor directly above the bar area all weekend. Due to the design of the lobby, our room was very noisy and since the hotel was sold out, they could not move us. Do not stay in a room on the 3rd floor.”

“It's just a great place to stay. The hotel is a bit older but that's fine. That means the rooms are bigger and you have more space to spread out. Pool and beach are great here, well-kept and the staff for most-part is terrific and goes out of their way. It's very nice.”

• Really nor anything I can think of except the $10 parking which we didn't have to pay.

“This hotel was pleasant, the rooms were spacious and the beds were comfortable. the only annoying part was the hotel cleaning staff started very early in the morning and it was hard to go back to sleep, we were always woken up by the vacuum cleaner which is upsetting when you are on vacation and want to sleep. The pool was great, the food was delicious and I would go back.”

“The hotel was very nice, great location great staff. I was very upset that we were charged $10 for daily parking when the parking lot was quite a distance from the front of the hotel and when its raining you get Soaked! Complimentary coffee in the lobby would have been nice too.”

“Have stayed here many times. The location is perfect - right on the beach. The staff is always friendly and helpful. Elevators are pretty slow and the walls are paper thin. We were awake late every night and after many phone calls to the front desk, nothing seemed to change.”

“The hotel is not setup for an extended stay especially with a family. A microwave nor a refrigerator was provided which suggested that the hotel wanted its guests to pay the expensive prices for dining at its restaurant or drive a few miles to a local restaurant. The hotel offered self parking and valet parking. Self parking was $10.70 and valet was $18. If an individual parks his own vehicle he should not be charged to do so especially while being a paying guests. I was thoroughly disappointed with these aspects of this hotel and will not recommend it to anyone visiting Hilton Head.”

• Directly located on the beach with a beautiful pool that overlooks the water.
• Small gym facility.

“We go to HHI every year for our anniversary and were very happy to visit the Marriott again. Some other resorts it is a bit of a hike from the pool to the beach. Not at the Marriott. You can see the water from the pool. The staff is always the friendliest. They have a good size parking facility so you don't have to struggle to find a parking spot at the end of the night.”

“We enjoyed our stay at this resort. The employees are especially friendly and helpful. The room was comfortable and clean. The only thing we didn't like about the resort was the fact that there were so many children running everywhere - especially toddlers. I think that large hotels should put couples or singles in one part of the building and families in another part. I would also suggest separate swimming pools so that adults can enjoy a swim or a conversation without being splashed and kicked. I love children, but I never allowed mine to bother other people.”

“I would stay there again. I found it very convenient to a lot of things. The staff was most friendly and helpful, but the rooms were a little lacking. I didn't like that there was not a refrigerator, just a cooler that didn't work.”
