• Staff was extremely helpful and friendly and there were no negatives regarding the facility.
• Really did not find anything.

“We have stayed at this hotel several times and have found it to be a very positive experience. We live approximately 100 miles away and travel to the area for entertainment. We always arrive very late and appreciate the fact that there are no disturbances to prevent our getting to sleep quickly. In addition to the quietness, our room has always been clean, well decorated and we appreciate the fact that a most comfortable king sized bed has been available.”

• Staff was very friendly
• In room internet was not included

“This was a nice, clean hotel with excellent staff. The food was good in the on site location. Felt safe at the hotel. Big mall right across the street. The only real complaint that I have is that they charged for the in room internet and while they had a business center you could use it only had two computers and was always occupied. Also charged for garage parking and there was no valet.”

• The bed was OK.
• Had to pay for parking and inrernet use and the room does not compare to the Marriott resort
  I have stayed at.

“Over all for the amount we paid it was OK. The rooms are just as nice and you don't have to pay for parking and they have breakfast for free and you can stay for a little less using on-line or road side coupon books. But the location is great I have stayed at many Marriott resorts and hotels and this one was just not so nice.”

• One of the nicest hotels in Charleston; second only to the Embassy Suites.
• You have to pay for parking and internet access was $13/day.

“This was a beautiful hotel and the rooms were clean and roomy. Parking was extra and so was the internet access. No wireless internet; only wired. Great hotel and the Whitewater restaurant was excellent.”

• The door from the pool to the balcony would not open, and when it did
  I was not sure
  I would be able to get back in - why emphasize there is a balcony.

“The hotel room was nice enough, but we only received two small bars of soap our whole time there, we are two adults, those two small bars of soap were not enough for our length of stay. Housekeeping would bring in room coffee, but no creamer, I had to call once for coffee, and it took almost an hour for them to bring the coffee to me. Charging for internet service in the room is outrageous, for the normal price of a room, internet should be free, charging $9.00 a day for parking is also outrageous, if a person is a guest at the hotel they should get a discount on parking.”

• Proximity to downtown - the Mall there is great.
• Paying extra for parking.

“This is a really nice hotel. We stay there often. It is very convenient - easy on and off to major roads, walking ability to lots of downtown restaurants and activities. I have used their restaurant in the past and it was expensive and only fair - did not attempt this time.”

• Location.
• The room was too too hot. No way to control temperature. Very uncomfortable to sleep in the heat.

“Overall, I was very pleased with the hotel and the price. I wish the room temperature issue could have been solved. Our friends staying at the same hotel experienced the same problems. I would stay there again though given the opportunity.”

• Direct movie channel not working/lines were down.

“Overall, we were pleased with this hotel. We would stay here again. Were a little disappointed that the movie channels were not in operation that night. They were having system problems.”

• The food and service.
• Bathroom and pool area could have been cleaner.

“Overall this was a pleasant experience. The bathroom had hair in the sink, and mold in the corners of the tub. The pool area and sauna were not clean.”

• Very nice rooms for a very low price and a convenient location.

“There was a very nice indoor pool, whirlpool and workout room. The staff and other residents were all very nice. The shower was perfect, the bathroom was spotless. Parking in the hotel's garage was $8, but it was worth it for the convenience. Overall I couldn't have been happier.”

“I was pleased with the room (especially the bed and shower) but there was no internet connection unless you are willing to pay $9.99. I find that to be ridiculous. Also, there was no continental breakfast, only overpriced room service.”

• The bed was pretty comfortable. The staff was very helpful and friendly.
• It would have been nice to have a refrigerator in the room.

“The hotel was in a great location because you could walk right across the street to a very large shopping mall. We asked for a roll away bed and the staff brought it immediately. Additionally, the desk staff gave us excellent directions to where we needed to go (and a map). We had a very nice experience.”

• We were met immediately by the valet who unloaded our bags and took them to our room. The room was very nice, bed very comfy. Hotel staff very nice.
• It was our wedding night and it would have been nice if they had acknowledged it.

“The Charleston Marriott is central to all of Charleston. The hotel is easy to get to and to depart from. The rooms are very nice, beds comfy. Hotel staff was courteous. I would recommend this hotel to anyone coming to Charleston for business or pleasure.”

• Some of the staff was friendly, convenient shopping area.
• Some of the staff was rude and not willing to help when they overcharged me.

“I get to the hotel and it looked very nice when they gave me the room, we go up and was surprised as they gave me one of those small pull up bed. I was very disappointed, we didn't sleep well on it. The hotel charged me $56 for no reason and I had to file a dispute because they were not willing to work with me to fix it. They said they only charged me $8 for parking and nothing else but my bank statement says otherwise. I won't stay at this hotel ever again.”

• Room was extremely well appointed and comfortable, very friendly cooperative staff!
• What was not to like?

“We occasionally visit a nearby gaming facility and usually stay overnight. Arrival to our room is very late, so all we want to do is find a very comfortable place to sleep without any hassle. Front desk staff was exceptionally friendly and accommodating, the bed was beyond comfort. Plan to stay again and make time to experience all the hotel's amenities, especially the dining options.”

• The rooms were very nice - upscale linens on the beds.
• The alarm clock went off next door in vacant room (6:30am on Saturday) and it took 45 minutes to get it turned off.

“This hotel is in a great location - across the street from the downtown mall. The front desk gave us a map and directions to a super breakfast restaurant. There was a nice bar with TV's, a workout room with nice equipment, a hot tub and indoor pool - all of which we used and enjoyed. We loaded and unloaded our car, and self-parked which we really like to do - no waiting on bellmen, or valet parking attendants either.”

• Not enough elevators. Convention in the hotel had to wait 17 times for elevator that wont full.

• Nice rooms with balcony and urban view. My son likes the indoor pool with skylights.
• Parking is a hassle, especially when it's raining.

“Swimming pool and parking staffs were very friendly. Building interior look old, formal but clean. Pool, Jacuzzi, and sauna were well maintained. No exhaust fan in the bathroom, no free internet connection. Overall we enjoyed our stay, but could be better.”

• Complete lack of customer service, not one employees smiles.

• Great location, clean, impressive entry, nice and friendly staff.
• Linens were old, rough and full of holes.

“It is a beautiful hotel right in the middle of downtown. The staff was friendly, polite and helpful. The only draw backs were old and ratty towels and linens and they had live music for a seminar on the roof that lasted late into the night and made it impossible to sleep before midnight. They also do not have King bed suite on the side of the hotel with the view of the river. It would make a more romantic experience for a couple if you could overlook the river from the 14th floor.”

“The entry is nice. However, when I got there, the staff at first was obnoxious. Then the manager took care of it. It needs to be clear on their site that breakfast is actually $10/person.”

• The staff was very friendly and helpful. Everyone was full of smiles.
• I've never stayed at a noisier hotel in my life. Between my loud neighbors and the club (?) beneath us, the baby had a hard time sleeping.

“Very friendly and helpful staff, 3 or 4 different reunions were happening, though. This made it extremely noisy at all hours. I had to ask the neighbors to calm their children (ages 3-10, I would guess) at midnight. The elevators were clogged at all hours, also. Plus, there was a club or something below us, so the music was loud late into the night. Because of all the noise, the baby didn't sleep well. Therefore, mommy and daddy got no sleep. On a side note, I was not aware I was being charged $8/day parking. I felt a little nickel and dime over this one. I got a receipt under my door the morning we were leaving, showing my credit card was charged for this. I asked the girl at the desk as I was checking out about this, pointing out that there were no signs informing anyone of this. She shrugged and said the parking garage belonged to the city of Charleston.”

• Parking garage needs improvements; room balcony inaccessible.

“Overall, quite good. The room balcony was inaccessible, which was too bad as there could have been a nice view of the river. Restaurant was great with a nice selection of wines but the hotel bar closes at midnight (not 1 AM as in their room information). The parking garage could use much better lighting and directions to the elevator. I arrived back late and while I'm sure it's a safe city, the experience of wandering around trying to find my way back to the hotel (no valet) was intimidating.”

• I have a 5-year-old son. I had to pay for his breakfast buffet - I did not see this anywhere else where stayed: everywhere children under 10 eat free!

• Other than my specific complaint, below, it was a very nice hotel, and I have stayed there numerous times in the past.
• Noise, lack of follow through by the desk on my complaint.

“This was one of the worst hotel stays I have ever had. There was some type of party going on in the hotel and the room next to mine evidently was rented to a couple in their early 20's.”
