• The breakfast buffet is a great deal.
• I was put in a handicap room the hotel was not full.

“The hotel is probably the nicest in downtown Spartan burg. However, I was put into a handicap room. I didn't complain, as it was very late when I checked in and just wanted to get in bed.”

• The bed was the most comfortable that I've ever slept.

“The hotel and grounds are beautifully kept. The rooms are wonderful and I couldn't wait to go to sleep each night, and didn't want to wake up either! They really make sure you sleep comfortably so much so that when I got home my husband and I couldn't sleep in our own bed!”

• Very safe and clean.
• Hot tub never got warmer than lukewarm.

“The hotel was very clean, attractive and had a very helpful staff. The beds were very comfortable. Parking is very convenient. There were plenty of outdoor tables which we took advantage of to play card games with our older children during the evenings.”

• Friendly staff, nice rooms, good food, exercise room-new equipment, check in/out process-fast/professional. Great hotel.
• Parking at times not so easy.

“My overall experience at this hotel has been excellent. Every time I go to Spartanburg I will continue to stay here. All the staff are friendly and professional and every need is met. I especially like having the exercise room. I don't have to change my daily routine just because I am traveling. I will definitely recommend this hotel.”

• Had to pay $12.95 a day for DSL connection.

“Very nice accommodations. Only issue is a hotel of this quality should provide free Wi-Fi or DSL connection. Also, there was no way to determine what was on TV without flipping through the channels as the hotel did not provide a guide and the TV did not have a guide channel. No morning newspaper provided. A 3.5 star hotel should have all of these!”

• Hotel not near Interstate, hotel also had parking garage somewhat far from the room. This could be difficult for seniors or those traveling with small.

“This hotel was very clean in both the public areas as well as the guest rooms. The guest rooms were very roomy and well kept with comfortable beds. I would recommend this hotel to all guests except for those looking to be near an Interstate.”

• I loved the bathroom!! It was so elegant, spacious, and colorful. No white towels and shower curtain here!
• I wish the pool had been indoors. If this is Spartanburg's greatest hotel, surely they could inclose the pool.

“The hotel staff was very friendly and helpful at check in. The hotel lobby was very large, yet inviting with the cozy sitting areas. I loved that you had to insert your room key into the elevator to access the floors. Great sense of security as we were traveling with small children. The rooms were nice and roomy, and the bathroom was my absolute favorite. It was so comfortable feeling, not so starch white like many other hotel bathrooms. Great job! Would definitely stay here again.”

• It was clean, well maintained, & staff was helpful.

“We walked downtown to dinner (the hotel is the perfect distance from the main street) and on the way home we did not feel safe. Lots of loud teens and cars driving recklessly. Most of the town seems to be in flux, not sure if it's coming back or going down.”

• They charge for internet access from the business center. Very bad idea.

• Had to pay extra for everything.

“I knew going in that you had to pay for internet access in your room ($10/night) but I figured I would use the business center to get directions and information. There was one working computer in the business center and it cost $6/20min to use the internet. Add the fact that there was no free continental breakfast and no restaurants close except the ones on site and this hotel is not 3 star in my book, had a much better experience in a 2 1/2 star Marriot.”

“Recently renovated and it shows. The hotel was immaculate! In fact, if you closed your eyes upon entering the lobby the hotel could easily have been in a big city. Room was spacious and well appointed. Room service and restaurant food were of good quality. Great southern hospitality. Central Downtown Spartanburg location.”

“Good location and beautiful facility. Slow attention to details. Broken chair reported; slow service to be recognized by staff in bar and slow service in restaurant. Good food, but so cold by the time it was delivered to the table. We observed it sitting to be delivered for 6 minutes before server picked it up. Restaurant was not busy at the time - we were one of 4 occupied tables.”

• We were met by friendly staff from the moment of check in to the delivery of our bags to the room. The building interior and exterior are impressive.
• The Marriott charges extra for the internet and newspapers.

“This hotel has it all. Fantastic value for the money the Spartanburg Marriott is like stepping into the old Grandeur of large Luxury Accommodations with and imposing exterior and a beautiful large lobby. The restaurants and the lounges are first class. The rooms are luxurious without being stuffy great place for a romantic get away or just a super family friendly stay far from the average chain motels all along the highway.”

“I was upgraded from the Courtyard which I wanted. I could not use my computer since I would not pay the $9.95 to hook up in the room. The facility was fine but I would not go back and am very unhappy to have stayed there.”

“The hotel was ok. Staff stated has 2 queen doubles. What is a queen double? My feet hung off the end of the bed. Mattress was very hard. Lipstick was on drinking glasses. Never drink from hotel drinking glasses.”

“I have stayed at the Marriott in Greenville, SC on occasion and enjoyed my stay there much better. The atmosphere is more pleasant, the service impeccable, and the facilities you would expect from this caliber of hotel (indoor pool, hot tub). Also, poor service in the restaurant at a very un-busy time. Food was very good. Even though had late check-out approved and privacy notice on door, the cleaning crew still bothered us at an early and inconvenient time.”

• One of the staff deliberately made us wait to check in, even though there were rooms available.

• The $9.95 for internet access daily.

“Hotel was nicely situated in Spartanburg with clean rooms, nice pool and lounge area. I did not like the idea of having to pay for internet service. All hotels that rank 2.5 or higher should award this to all customers. Most 2.0's do so for free in addition to a much cheaper overnight rate.”

• Common areas very nice. Free parking.
• No drapes. Very bright in the room at sunrise kept me awake.

“Since it is downtown, this was not a particularly convenient location off I-26. In it's segmenting of the areas of town. Hotel was typical of a full Marriott hotel - more geared toward business travel but nice rooms. I definitely found the lack of substantive draperies annoying though.”

“The side entrance was without any signs saying where the main entrance and registration was, leaving us to look at floor plans and trying to figure out where to go. Location made us decide to stay in the building for the evening.”

• This hotel was first class and we would certainly love to only stay in hotels as fabulous as this!
• I'm sorry but there is nothing I could tell you that we didn't like about this hotel.

“As stated above this was a first class hotel. It had every amenity one could imagine. The lobby entrance was grand with its marble staircase, the hotel room was beautifully furnished, and the workout room was wonderful as was the pool. Excellent accommodations!”

• The esthetics' - very beautifully furnished.
• No smoking in the bar, pool closed all of first day.

“The hotel is right down town so the location is perfect. It is very beautifully furnished. However, I was very disappointed that the hotel closed the pool if it is sprinkling, if it is not warm enough for swimming in the opinion of the pool engineer. I would not recommend this hotel to a smoker. You can not even smoke in the bar. Also, if you are traveling with friends (like on a weekend getaway. Do not stay here! Walls are paper thin and you will get noise complaints even if you are speaking quietly and it is only 10PM. Definitely do not stay here if you are looking forward to swimming or relaxing in the hot tub. I will not stay here again.”

“All in all this was a great hotel. The restaurant was great; they gave me a free dessert delivered via room service because it was my birthday, so that was pretty nice of them. There was an event going on so there wasn't any parking, but they valet parked the car free of charge. This was a nice vacation away from home, we are from the Spartanburg area, but it was nice to stay in the hotel.”

• They were well organized even with several events going on.
• The bed linens were cheap, thin and scratchy.

“The hotel was very nice for business, but no amenities for family. Internet access was additional charge per day. The parking elevator was not close to the regular elevator, so you had to carry your luggage through the lobby. The breakfast buffet was very nice.”

• It was close to lots of shopping, restaurants, etc.
• No waffle house nearby!

“This hotel was very nice, and I would recommend it to anyone. The bed was comfortable, and the bathrooms were nice and big. Parking was free, and there are also restaurants inside the hotel for very close dining. There is also a star bucks in the hotel!”

• What a beautiful room!
• I wasn't thrilled with having to pay for the internet; it is tacky for Marriott to do this.

“The Marriott Spartanburg is probably the classiest hotel in the city. The rooms are of high quality and the lobby is immaculate. Parking is free, covered, and secure, and you get a dash of Southern hospitality with free lemonade in the lobby. I couldn't ask for more.”
