“We were placed in a room on the fourth floor as far away from the pool. As you could possible be and still on the property. Five minutes after checking in, the toilet overflowed. I called right away. After 30 minutes we decided to go to the pool and give them a chance to fix the problem. We returned after two hours and the water was still on the floor. I called and demanded that they fix it or change our room. They sent a maintenance man and wiped the floor with a towel. Next when we went to get towels for the pool, we found that you had to go to the front desk. The front desk was father away from our room then the pool. I walked to get the towels and found out I had to sign them out and return them to the front desk when I was finished with them. If I did not comply, I would be charged $5 per towel. Finally, when I went to check out the next morning I was not going to complain about any of this because I was trying to enjoy my weekend. I was informed that the only additional charge would be a $2.75 amenities charge.”

• Conveniently located close to Shand’s Hospital.
• The hotel/rooms are older/dated.

“The hotel was average - not too bad - not too great. It was clean enough. We love the fact that it is so close to Shand’s - just wish it were a little bit more updated.”

• The beds were extremely comfortable.
• Repeated trips to the concierge to get card key to work. Never did work, didn't have a key at all to the room or entrance!

• Outside balcony / patio area was large.

“No way this was a 2.5 star based on room. Lobby was very nice, but room smelled bad, worn bed luminescent towels they must have gotten used from Holiday Inn.”

• Very clean. Good location. Staff was on the ball. I liked that they clean the room really well. And that my wake up call was right on time.
• No refrigerator in the room. No microwave oven in the room.

• Proximity to UF campus.

“Everything about this place was a disappointment. I couldn't sleep because I was worried about linen cleanliness and the fact that all of the bedding was pulling away from the mattress. The pool was freezing, unheated, and full of leaves. The TV was broken, although the maintenance person did come a repair it.”

“Hotel was old and dated (not kept up very well). Parking area small and very crowded and had to walk long distance to room. Very upsetting and unprofessional. Would not recommend this hotel to anyone.”

• Spacious rooms, very comfortable beds
• There was no bureau in the room (not that we needed one...) and they charge an amenity fee when checking out. It is like $2.15 per night.

“This hotel is very nice. Many rooms have lake views, and the styling of the rooms is comfortable and modern. Most if not all of the beds have featherbed mattress toppers, and though it was too cold for swimming, the pool looked clean and well maintained.”

• Price.
• Bedding was unsatisfactory and non-smoking room smelled of smoke.

“This is an older hotel in the Gainesville area close to the UF Campus. While it has ample parking and generally clean rooms, the carpeting and bedding needs to be changed out to get smell out of the building. I think that in comparison to other hotels, not offering free coffee in the lobby in the morning after charging a facility fee makes you just shrug your shoulders. I think that if you are looking for basic sleep, it's ok, if you are looking for a resort stay, consider something else.”

• Free access to computer & printer allowed printing of boarding passes.
• The fist-sized palmetto bug that was clinging to the shower curtain when I closed it!

“Rooms seemed dark & dated; neighborhood a bit rundown. Offended by $2.50/day amenities charge for normally provided items (e.g. the one bottle of shampoo and one bottle of body lotion -- no shower cap or other toiletries).”

• The room was spacious and furnishings were updated.
• The powdered coffee creamer was in a clump from the humidity; the elevator door opened and closed as it was stuck on my floor, across the hall from me.

“My room was roomy and updated, very nice. But the humidity level in this hotel must be a bear to control. The air in the hotel was heavy with humidity and new carpet smell. All the coffee creamer packets had been penetrated by the humidity and caused the creamer to clump. The room's air conditioner never really got up to speed to handle it. The elevator was stuck on my floor and the door opened and closed with a creak and a screech all night. Upon departure, the heated stench of the trash collection spot was right below the registration door. When how putrid. Glad I was leaving. Yes, I did mention these problems to the clerk. She just looked at me, oh, sorry. She was young and probably didn't know how to handle complaints. The location to the University of FL is great. Just wish my stay was better. Don't know if I'll try this again. May be if I got a room in another building.”

• It looks to have undergone some recent renovations that made it seem nicer and cleaner.
• Parking. Not hotel's fault though, we got there late.

“This is the second time I have stayed at this hotel for business. It is one of the few choices in Gainesville for 2.5 stars. This is not a 2.5 star hotel. The rooms are dingy and dated and the beds are uncomfortable.”

“The rooms were disgusting, felt unsafe and cheated. It was so bad we checked out at 3:00 AM after making a 10 hour drive. Would have rather slept in my car.”

• Very convenient, staff was friendly.
• Room was very basic and woke up to a tractor outside the window at 7:30.

“The room was pretty basic although it was billed as a deluxe king. No fridge. Some of the hallways were not as clean as they could have been. And the tractor outside the window at 7:30 am was a bit much.”

“This was one of the worst hotel experiences I have had. Grungy stained carpet, dead cockroaches that sat in front of my door for our entire stay, and fighting guests. We encountered several people that had similar experiences here.”

• Quiet and away from traffic. The outdoor pool is very nice this time of year.
• The rooms are musty with little ventilation. The elevator didn't work for 1 day. Not as clean as most.

“The staff was helpful and put us in 3 adjoining rooms. The rooms are a little musty and could use better cleaning. It is about time for a renovation. The outdoor pool is very large and in a beautiful setting. There is no complimentary breakfast offered, but on the weekends there is a 9 dollar breakfast all-you-can-eat buffet. We did not eat at the restaurant so I do not know if the food is good. The elevator did not work the first day which was difficult since we were with my elderly mother-in-law who is handicap. The elevator smelled horrible and sounded like it wasn't going to make it. The location was quiet but not an easy on and off from the main express way. It was very busy and seemed to be a popular place to stay. I think we may try another hotel next time.”

• There was a roof on the building and it did not leak.
• Bug spray smell, old moldy, dark dank.

“Service was terrible. Waited in line for 10 minutes and no one came up to serve me coffee at the coffee bar. The layout of the hotel was confusing, dark and old. The hotel needs to be knocked down and rebuilt.”

• Very nice, very clean, very quiet.
• Elevator seemed to have a mind of it's own. Vending machines didn't work.

“Positives: Very nice hotel. Very clean and quiet. Room was big as well as the bed. Bathroom was clean. Cable TV was just fine. Internet access was available and worked. Location was good for where I needed to be during the day (U of F). Drawbacks: Elevator had a mind of it's own. I took the stairs. Vending machines on two out of three floors didn't work. Didn't like being charged $25 for incidentals even though it was taken off my account a few days later. Overall: When I go back to the area I will definitely go to this hotel.”

• Breakfast buffet was barely edible, dining staff very inattentive, lazy.

“The room was clean, neat and in good shape for an older hotel. Beds were comfortable. Staff at desk were good at check-in. Dining room food quality was not good. It's hard to mess up breakfast but they did it. Eggs were dry, grits tasteless and bacon, well, there wasn't any and it was never refilled (at 8 am) There seemed to be approx 6 people on staff that were overwhelmed by their 5 tables of guests. Not what I'd expect for an $8.95 breakfast.”

• Very affordable. Food was great, good prices.
• There for family member having surgery. Surgery was rescheduled (Doctors emergency) four days later. Hotel wouldn't transfer 1 night for new surgery.

“Great rooms. Need fridge in all rooms. Comfortable beds. Hotel needs to be a little more understanding to seniors with family at hospital. Husbands surgery was rescheduled for four days later. I wanted them to transfer one night to the new surgery date. They would not.”

• That the rooms be upgraded and hallways look more presentable as well.
• The sheets were gray instead of white. I had to request a different iron three different times due to the quality and function of it.

“The main lobby seemed to be better represented than the rooms and hall ways. The staff was very friendly and polite. The carpet in the rooms was very dirty and the bedding seemed very old.”

• The room was full of mildew and moisture- outdated in everyway!

• It was close to the hospital, which is why we were in Gainesville.
• Did not tell me about charge for crib when I inquired about one.

“This hotel is ok at best. The pool was dirty so my children could not go swimming. The elevator was broken and we were on the fourth floor. We were kept up by a group of kids who thought it was ok to play football in the hallway. The staff did a poor job of communicating before we arrived when I called to let them know of our needs, i.e. (two double beds, a crib). The room was spacious, but I have been in much nicer hotels for relatively the same price.”

• The pillows were very comfortable.
• Inconvenient.

“This hotel was in an inconvenient, out of the way location. There was no parking available or no luggage carts. We had to walk what seemed like forever with all our luggage & when we finally reached the nearest entrance we walked to the elevator & it was out of order. Our room was on the 4th floor! When we did finally get to our room, I was planning on sitting on the balcony in which your description said looked over a lake. The only thing our balcony looked over was the parking lot. I wouldn't have sat on the balcony furniture anyway because it was filthy! I guess you get what you pay for. Next time I won't take a chance like that again.”

• Used lotion bottle.

“Very close to UF and the house I was looking at. Stayed in one room with parents; since I wasn't expecting my dad to take the trip with us, I had only requested one room with a king bed. Before we could even phone the front desk, they called us to see how we were settling in. Brought the trundle bed up in under 5 minutes. Room was spacious and nice, in itself worth the price. However, my mom said she smelled an odd stench when walking through the entrance of the second floor, thought it was bug spray--but hey, I'd rather deal with the stench then the bugs. Elevator was a little possessed. It would randomly decide to skip floor three on the way up and only stop on the way down. I know. weird. Also the sample tube of lotion in the bathroom was half-used when we checked in. I was perfectly ok with walking around barefoot, and I'm pretty sure my sneezing and runny nose was brought on by something in bloom and not anything in the room and/or hotel itself, since It lasted on the trip up and all throughout the area of Gainesville. For the price it was worth the one night stay.”

• There is nothing I like about this hotel.
• Everything was dirty and disgusting, especially the restrooms. I felt like I was sleeping in filth because the white sheets were closer to brown.

• Hotel is Terrible.
• Hotel seemed very dirty and dingy and dark.

“We asked to see a room and were very disappointed. Our plans changed some and we really did not need to stay overnight. After we looked at hotel and had to go down a Very dark hallway that had an odor or perhaps mildew. Decided not to stay and drive home.”
