• Pleased overall. Disappointed with the push to purchase the package to cover parking and other costs. Pay as you go would have been more cost effective.
• Only one Tiki bar tenders was unfriendly. He wasn't social seemed quite upset but all other staff members were eager to please..

“I would return but pay for parking and extra's as you go, unless you know for sure you'll use the cabanna daily, etc. Try to go during the week it was much less crowded before the saturday check in.Felt like we had the place to ourselves!”

“We stayed there about 10 years ago and the hotel was nothing special. This stay I was pleasantly surprised. Rooms were a little small but they were decorated beautifully and very clean.”

• Great amenities at resort.
• Mandatory resort fee was unexpected.

“The Sandpiper had great amenities, particularly because its sister resort, Island Grand, was just one hotel over and guests were able to use both hotels and their amenities (pools, fitness rooms, tennis courts, etc.) as part of their stay. I'm not an experienced resort traveler so the resort amenity fee was unexpected but ended up being nice because it included several things we planned on using (internet, parking, beach loungers, etc.) for a price lower than they would have been a la cart. Hotel staff was extremely helpful and friendly. The resort was close to several area attractions and restaurants were within walking distance, but you didn't have to venture out of the resort system if you didn't want because of the food options available between the Sandpiper and its sister, the Island Grand. Food was also reasonably priced. This resort was great for myself and a friend in our 20s, but would be great for families or romantic couples as well.”

• The lobby was classy, the room was bright.
• We had a cockroach in the room.

“For a small charge, we upgraded our room so that we had an ocean view. The room was a suite and was decorated in bright, tropical colors and decor. The bathroom was segregated from all activity. There was a nice kitchenette with dishes. The staff was very friendly and helpful.”

• Location was fantastic and view from the room was beautiful.
• Room was dirty, bathroom fixtures broken, and smelled like cigarette smoke.

“My husband and I have stayed at this hotel's property four times in the last year and this was, by far, our worst experience. The balcony was dirtied with drink cups and cigarette butts (despite it being a no-smoking room) when we arrived and was never cleaned. The tub did not drain properly when we bathed. The tub faucet was coming out of the wall. It sounded like a jack hammer when we showered. Our room was across the hall from what we believed was the staff break room and smoke room. We could smell cigarette smoke in the room whether we'd opened the door or not. We were also not notified there was no continental breakfast as there'd been in the past so we were disappointed our first morning. We were also surprised by the $25 resort fee we'd never had to pay before. The front office staff was very helpful and cordial. The drinks at the bar were delicious.”

• Bar next door cranked music till 2 a.m. Hard to sleep.

“Overall, this hotel is a good value. Nicer amenities and the ability to use the sister hotel were good features. Nice pools, adult pool available, beach bar was a little too busy. Coconut Comedy club on site was a blast. The only negative was the bar that was right outside our room played very loud music till 2 a.m. They need a noise ordinance in that area after midnight. We went to the bar to check it out - it was so loud that your ears hurt to sit there. Not necessary to be that loud. Not that this hotel can do anything about it.”

“I have used priceline many times and this hotel did not live up to the 3 star standard I have received on others hotels. The hotel is very dated and needs to be modernized. Rooms are very small. Pools are very small. Location on the beach was good.”

• The adults only pool.
• Water pipes banging.

“Beautiful location, great beach and pool facilities. Swings and hammocks on the beach under pine trees. All rooms have a little kitchen. Clean, bright and cheerful.”

• On the beach, had hot tub, pretty, clean, complimentary breakfast.
• Previous guests' towels were left on windows, ill overlooking pool - guess housekeeper hadn't noticed them hanging on rail, & they fell.

“It took at least four attempts to check in. The towel rack broke out of the wall when I went to hang my bath towel. Plus, we were charged an outrageous $25/day resort fee that wasn't anticipated.”

• Location. On the gulf, fabulous view.
• Pool and patio grounds could have been cleaner.

“Beautiful location, most of staff was very accommodating. Pool and patio staff were almost non-existent, making it difficult to find pool towels, clean tables and cushions for cabana chairs. The food and beverage manager was incredibly helpful. She went above and beyond her duties to ensure we had a successful party.”

• The room was very clean, visually appealing, comfortable. Almost new.
• It was right next Ricky T's. The music was loud and played into the early morning. I had trouble sleeping. Also the surprise amenity fee of $25.

“The hotel was great, it was clean, the staff was friendly. Our room was very comfortable and clean. It had a nice little patio area to sit outside. It was so nice being right on the beach. Overall our stay was very nice. There were a couple things to complain about though. Once arriving at the hotel there was a surprise $25 amenity fee. Also, our room was on the side facing Ricky T's a club that played loud music into the early morning. I had the hardest time going to sleep and did not get a good night sleep until it stopped. Which in turn, made me very tired the next day.”

• Directly on the beach.
• Room was tiny. There was only one part of the bathroom that you could stand in if you wanted to shut the door.

“The hotel is clean and well maintained. They make you pay of all kinds of amenities that are located 3 hotels down the beach whether you want them or not. The suite rooms are tiny and the hallway is so narrow that you cannot have two people walking through at the same time.”

• The front desk personnel were great and very helpful.
• Sheets in the room needed to be replaced as they were very rough from being washed a lot.

“The staff at the hotel was excellent. She was such a pleasure to work with. The hotel was very clean at all times and all the staff was very pleasant. I will send other people to this hotel for their stay.”

• Mandatory amenities fee and teenagers dominated the high speed internet in the lobby, none in the room.

“We bought beach chairs on our way to the beach and there was a $25.00 amenities fee for parking, beach chairs, high speed internet, etc. We had to pay it, we used the beach chairs, and could not get on the internet (not provided in room) because teenagers or younger were on the three computers at all times. So, I paid $25 a day to park and use a beach chair!”

• I liked that the hotel is right on the beach.

“Overall this was a decent hotel. Most of the staff was friendly. The hotel grounds are nice. There was one day that our room was skipped and not cleaned. We had to call down for towels but they arrived promptly. The swings they provide out by the beach were nice to watch sunsets. All-in-all this was a good experience.”

“Nice location, free breakfast, kid friendly. One thing that irked me is that when checking in I was told we could have 1 beach cabana for every 2 people. There were 4 people in our party but we were only allowed 1 cabana. We weren't the only people that complained as we overhead at least 2 others say the same thing.”

“I was not impressed with the customer service at this hotel. The pools were clean but too small for the amount of guests. The pizza hut food was good but the staff was immature. Our room was clean but the air conditioner kept waking me up. It was very loud. Everything was very clean. The beds were a little firm.”

“This hotel is old and the walls are very thin where you can hear everything going on outside. It definitely was not a 4 star or even a 3 star. The staff was rude and they charged me an extra $25 in resort fees, which was not expected, especially since I was in St. Pete on business and was not planning on using the amenities and just needed a room to work and sleep in.”

• I loved the many activities the hotel had for children.
• The resort fee was rather high. You have to remember that when you factor in the price of room also.

“My family and I enjoyed our stay at the Trade winds. The many kid friendly activities entertained my 7 year old during our trip. The room was very nice and was kept clean always by housekeeping. The mini kitchen in the room certainly did save us from going out and spending money at the nearby restaurants. Beach access was right outside our door and we had a beautiful view of the sunset everyday. The things I didn't enjoy about the resort was the high resort fee at $25.00 a night, and security from the hotel contacted us and kept coming to our room to check if there had been a possible internal theft from the housekeeping staff. We felt very uneasy leaving our belongings in the room once security told us the previous guests had something missing. Other then that. We had a great time.”

• I loved the hammocks, they were scattered throughout the property.
• The resort fee.

“The hotel room was spacious and comfortable. It was equipped with a small kitchen that included full size refrigerator with freezer, two burner cook top, toaster, microwave, and small assortment of dishes. The $25/day resort/parking fee is totally ridiculous. The property has a huge parking garage so to charge for parking is crazy. The hotel is directly on the beach so the location is great.”

• The hotel was clean and the surroundings were very nice, tropical. The location was close to any stores you would want or need to go to.
• The parking area was very small with small individual spaces.

“I will recommend this hotel to people that I know. It was clean, employees were pleasant, security was good. The rooms were nice. I would not use the bar in the room because the products in it were priced to high.”

• The location and atmosphere were fine. The staff was attentive. The security was excellent.
• There were smokers in the room next to us that was supposed to be smoke free. Security responded immediately.

“The only blemish on our stay was a guest next door who was smoking in a non-smoking room. We called security and they responded immediately. Unfortunately, the guests did the same thing the next night. We did not bother with security the second time.”

“This hotel has all the facilities you'd expect from a 3 or 4 star hotel but the quality and size of those facilities is poor. They spent just enough money to be able to say they have them, but they are not enjoyable. Rooms are quite small and doors open to the outdoors rather than a hallway.”

• Right on the ocean, cabanas, lots of things to do at resort, adult pool was nice.
• Some disorganization at beginning, only some staff friendly, continental breakfast ok.

“The resort was very nice. It is right on the beach, and provided many things to do: paddleboats, water strikes, pools, adult-only pools, activities for kids, cabanas on the beach, restaurants, and bars. Was in walking distance from other restaurants, bars, & some shopping (mostly surf shops). Be aware the resort charges a $25 amenity fee per day, and this is not optional. Since the resort provided so many things to do, and we took advantage of it, we didn't mind paying this fee. This is a very nice place to stay if you are just going to be hanging around the beach.”

• I liked the fact that it was right on the beach and we could walk down to the other property and use their amenities.
• It was a little crowded and hard to get what you wanted at the continental breakfast. Seating was also hard to find.

• Tried to get us to pay a mandatory resort fee of about $30 per day at check in.

• Double beds; living room; kitchenette; clean bathroom; TV in bedroom and living room; patio with table and chairs; pool and ocean view.
• Check in started at 4 but the room was ready until 5, but it was worth the wait.

“The room was more than we expected. It had double queen beds; kitchette; living room; TV in bedroom and living room; amazing view of the ocean and family pool area from the patio that had its own umbrella table and chairs and the living room that had double glass doors that opened to the patio; the front door opened to the adult pool area; and the bathroom and room was very clean. The staff was helpful and friendly. Even though we couldn't check in until later, they let you register and use the facility and amenities all day. We didn't have a lot of money to spend and this was more than we could have hoped for.”

“Need a great beach getaway in the St. Pete area? This is it! The sand is like sugar, the ocean is emerald green, and there are loads of activities to keep you and the kids busy. The restaurants close by are very good and a great value. I highly recommend this hotel.”

• The check in desk and personal.

“If you can get checked in it is in a great location and very close to everything. The beach is great and the pool and pool side bar are both very convenient the only negative thing I can say is it was very difficult to check in and check in time is 400 and they would not promise check in even after 400 until I spoke to management and they were even rude to me. Overall I spent almost two hours checking in. If you can get past the front desk its a great resort.”
