“The hotel is located in the GM owned Detroit Renaissance Center. GM Has invested millions of dollars with renovations to the Ren Center. As it is 1st class all the way.”

• The staff were very friendly and helpful. They met all my needs.
• The beds were to small.

• Direct access to people mover (Downtown Detroit public transportation rail system.
• Very little green space around - too much concrete.

“This hotel is in the heart of the general motors world headquarters complex in the Renaissance Center right on the Detroit river in Downtown Detroit. It has wonderful views of Windsor, Ontario, Canada across the river. Since it is in the middle of the gm complex, there are numerous stores and restaurants accessible without going outside. Restaurants range from fast food chains to high end dining. The complex is not very pretty with all the concrete walls, but they are trying to make it more pleasing to the eye and the view of the river and convenient Downtown location is well worth the stay.”

“Great staff. Slightly dated, slightly worn room, but immaculately clean. Luxurious and updated linens. Flat screen TV. Fantastic rive view from the floor to ceiling windows in our room.”

• The view of the river at night was amazing!
• Took a long time to check in.

“We had a great room on the 59th floor. The view of the river and Canada at night is great! This hotel is known for their beds and ours was very comfy! The customer service was excellent, even though I am sure there were hundreds of customers everyone addressed me by name. That was a nice touch.”

• Water saver toilet, low bowl level.

“This hotel, wrapped around the GM headquarters, has to be the most beautiful and best maintained hotel in all of Detroit. This hotel has parking underneath it but I parked on the wrong side of the street and had to walk back across through an overhead tunnel which was kind of neat. But it would have been easier if I parked in the right place.”

• Friendly front desk staff.
• The toilet clogged 3 times.

“The windows frosted on the inside, their was lots of traffic noise, so it was difficult to sleep, the toilet clogged 3 times, I had to call the Janitor twice, finding restaurants and stores proved to be very confusing.”

• No frig or microwave.

“I travel quite bit but I really enjoyed the service, and quality of the room. The view of Canada was outstanding from every room and the price I received was the icing on the cake!”

• The spectacular view of the river, the friendly and efficient staff, the great bed location and DPM access!
• It's a little hard to get from one place to another within the hotel.

“This hotel is perfectly located for all the events and activities in Downtown Detroit. Easy access to the People Mover UTS everything within reach. The staff is typical "Detroit" friendly and the views from the room of Windsor, The Detroit river and Ambassador bridge were breath-taking. It's spotless, comfortable and luxurious. In other words - dont ever stay anywhere else if you're doing Detroit!”

• It was almost like a resort with everything in the building.
• After we checked out we had some problems with trying to get something that was mistakenly left.

“Our stay in the hotel was great. I would stand on the mountain tops and tell the world the Detroit RenCen was a great hotel, but unfortunately my wife left her wedding ring in the room and we didn't realize it until after we checked out. When we called to try to get someone to check the room we were told that the housekeeper didn't see it and that another guest had already checked into the room, but they would look into things and call us back. Three days have gone by and I have not received a single phone call from anyone at the hotel. It's very frustrating.”

• Magnificent views, close to all things we wanted.
• Breakfast buffet closed 15 minutes after we started on Monday. Very disappointed.

“Ren Center is a fantastic place to stay. It is within walking distance of so many shops, restaurants and the like. Beautiful views of Downtown, the river, and Canada, both day and night.”

“Our return stay reminded us how much we enjoy this hotel. The staff is great, the amenities superb (a really great exercise facility), very comfortable beds with high quality linens, great in-room Wi-Fi, spectacular views, a variety of restaurants and easy access to city transit. An outstanding hotel in every respect.”

• Close to people mover/cobo hall.
• Elevators do not stop at 2 and 1 floors after 8 PM.

“Great stay, but hated elevators, not able to use [no stopping at first or second floor] after 8PM. Had to walk around and find a way to floor 3, then ride elevator to room on 24th floor very inconvenient.”

• Beautiful hotel, beautiful location, exceptional service.
• It was extremely cold outside, so there was a draft with the curtains open.

“Great for travelers or for leisure, in the heart of everything, minutes from Greek Town and the MGM. Will definitely stay here again! The GM presentation on the ground floor was fun. Very friendly staff.”

• The view is awesome and the linens/bedding is very nice.
• No information in the room on things to do in Downtown Detroit.

“The hotel's location and the view I knew we could get from the guest room is what made me book here. I called earlier that day to see if I could get a room facing the Detroit River and the operator said she could note my request but she couldn't guarantee it (she was a little rude) but when we got there and I asked at the check in desk they said 'no problem'! The view was fantastic because the one wall was all window and it was clean. I thought it might by cold sleeping in the bed by the window (and because it was 15 degrees out!) but I cranked the thermostat up and it was very comfortable. We took the People Mover everywhere we needed to go, including to Cobo for the auto show. The room was very clean (except there was a stain on the carpet), staff was really nice, check out was quick and the view made it all worth while. I'd stay here again and I only live 20 minutes away!”

“It's a nice hotel in Downtown Detroit but since it is Detroit there is very little to do in the vicinity of the hotel and parts of Downtown seem unsafe since they are so deserted.”

• Nothing to do in the city but casinos and the cable was out for 1 full night. TERRIBLE.

• There isn't a friendlier staff in the USA.
• Rooms are somewhat small for Detroit.

“The location Smack Dab in the middle of Downtown on the river is fantastic. The internal workings of the Ren Cen makes it so you don't have to leave the hotel whatsoever. Clean, the greatest staff in Marriott's anywhere, and awesome views.”

“Room was great, a little small but great for our needs. Beds were very comfortable. The location was great for us as we spent the evening in and around Greek town casino. Everything was clean and the people were very nice and accommodating that we came in contact with.”

• Very convenient for staying overnight while going to a show/concert in Downtown Detroit.
• When they remodeled the rooms, they should have rerouted the tile in the bathroom.

“My husband and I have seen a lot of improvements at the Renaissance center in the last 10 years. They just completely remodeled all the rooms and all of them are non smoking which is great for us. Downtown Detroit has come a long way in the last 10 years and was a really nice get away for us to see a show and then stay overnight at the Renaissance center. We'd definitely recommend our stay to others!”

• Renaissance Center very big, a little confusing!

• In this day and age, why are travelers still paying for internet!

“The hotel was very nice and clean! The beds were very comfortable and the staff was extremely helpful! The big disappointment came when I had to pay $12.95 for 24 hour internet usage that ran from 12 noon to 12 noon! At a hotel this upscale one would think the internet would be free of charge!”

• Nice hotel with easy access to downtown Detroit.
• Monday morning @ 8am someone began maintenance work that essentially pushed us out of the hotel. Lame.

“The hotel sits directly on the Detroit river walk with a great view of Canada. Only 4 blocks away from Greek town (worth a visit to the golden fleece), and 8 blocks away from Comerica park and ford filed where the MLB tigers and NFL lions play. Overall, nice hotel with a good location.”

• Location plus the Detroit transit system allowed us to visit the areas we wanted.
• The entire renaissance center is a little bit confusing to navigate from place to place.

“Excellent hotel and would recommend staying here. Location is excellent to get to all the major sporting venues.”
