- The hotel was beautiful and clean with lots of security staff.
- The check in line was HUGE - 45 min wait.
“Overall, I was very happy with my experience with this hotel and wouldn't hesitate to stay there again in the future. Unfortunately, we had to wait in line for 45mins to check in which was the only disappointment. Highly recommend this hotel to anyone.”

- There are great views from the windows
- If you are calling on GM for business it is convenient.
“The hotel is not up to the normal Marriott, or Priceline 3.5 star standard - terrible customer service (weekend team???) ... parking is very inconvenient unless you use expensive valet service. The bed in the room was amazingly uncomfortable - did not seem to be the normal Marriott standard. Room was on the edge of being run down.”

- I felt safe and secure being in Down Town Detroit.
“The hotel was beautiful and huge. You can find yourself lost quickly. It was reasonable and we felt safe! The rooms were clean and smelled fine and the view was pretty looking over to Canada. Very close to everything you needed in Detroit.”

- Location is convenient to downtown.
- They charge 12.95/day for internet. That is ridiculous.

- Great downtown Detroit location, right next to Joe Louis Arena (went to the hockey game).
- It's a bit hard to navigate as it is located in the Renaissance Center, major parts of the hotel are disconnected.

- Concierge service was outstanding! She went the extra mile for my husbands birthday - it was greatly appreciated.
“We had a full night planned Red Wings game, gambling and eating out for my husbands 50th birthday. I wanted something special in the room when we got back and the Concierge helped to make that happen. (I never got a chance to meet her personally - but it was greatly appreciated.)”

- Very comfortable beds, very clean hotel, nice views.
- The high rise/low rise elevators can be confusing. Large place!
“Overall, I had a great experience with this hotel. The dining and room service were expensive, but the atmosphere was nice and cleanliness was impeccable. The beds were very comfortable with lots of pillows and a large, flat screen TV. I would definitely stay there again. Close to all events.”

- Location to downtown restaurants/lounges/sporting events was excellent.
- Hotel itself being located in the RenCen is confusing.
“Rooms were very comfortable - the beds were to die for! Could not bring in coolers with food/drink. You do not have to pay for valet parking - just unload at front door and park yourself in one of the two ramps connected to the RenCen for $12/day. It does take some time to get your bearings with the hotel being located in the RenCen.”

- It's in the middle of the GM complex, so you have to deal with the business of a corporation.

- Very unique.
- Open to the public lobby elevator.
“Hotel staff was great; the hotel was unique and beautiful. We felt safe except for the fact that the hotel elevators are in a different spot from the lobby and anyone off the street could come up to your floor. There was a lot of loud noise in the late evening from 2-5am and
I didn’t know if it was guests or outsiders. We were overall very happy with our experience.”

- The location was stunning.
- You have to pay for parking: $20 valet or pay parking deck.
“The valet and receiving staff are not helpful at all and could care less if you have to pay $20 to park your car while you check in. Also it is very misleading on how to get to the motor lobby. The hotel itself is a nice building and the view from there is nice if you don't get one of the room with large graphics adhered over the windows.”

- I was treated exceptionally well by the parking staff when I left something in my parked car.
- They did not give me any Marriott points although I do belong to their Elite traveler.
“An excellent large hotel on a beautiful river with a view of Canada. Room service, breakfast was good. I received excellent service on two separate occasions that went far beyond the call of duty, this is a sign of a quality hotel. The room was large and comfortable.”

- Very difficult to find your way in from downtown Detroit.
“The hotel is difficult to drive to although it dominates the skyline. There were no signs that I noticed for directions to the hotel once you got into downtown Detroit. I ended up on my way to Canada via the tunnel but an extremely rude border guard put a quick halt to that and proceeded to search my vehicle all because I was lost and made a wrong turn. I'll never stay there again.”

“This hotel is well maintained with beautiful vibrant colored carpeting in the hallways leading to the rooms. It is an excellent location for business or leisure travelers. Marriott's in general have the most comfortable beds/bedding in the hotel industry. This one in particular upholds that standard.”

- Everyone was very helpful.
- There was a few cob webs in the room but other wise clean.
“It was in a great location. The transportation system was so easy to use. Everything you would need was either in the hotel or within walking distance. The staff was great. Any problems we had or questions they were able to help right away. The restaurant upstairs was a little over rated. The service was slow and the food was nothing special. The up side of it was the view, you could see everything, it was wonderful.”

- Enjoyed the magnificent view of the river and the friendliness of the staff.
- Do not eat at the River Tavern inside the Renaissance. The staff was nice but the food and drinks were absolutely horrible.
“I really enjoyed everything about the hotel except for the restaurant called the River Tavern. The service was very good but neither I nor my husband liked anything that we ate. My suggestion, keep the service staff, but please hire a new chef.”

- It was convenient & close to events I wanted to attend.
- You have to pay 20.00 a day to park, and I had to pay 25.00 for a refrigerator for my medication.
“The hotel was very nice. We wanted adjoining king rooms and they were very helpful with this. I had the handicapped room which was wonderful except for closet space. I had bar's in the tub to help get in and out. That was great since I recently developed health problems that I need assistance for.”

- It's very poorly run. Staff members are dishonest.
“When I checked in, tired from a 6-hour drive, the front desk clerk told me that no rooms currently were available and that she did not know when a room would become available. She said she would call me on my cell phone when a room became available. I never received a call. I finally received my room 4 hours later, at 10pm. Because of this inconvenience, I asked for a late check out for the next day. The next morning I called the front desk to get a confirmation of my late check-out. I was assured that the late check-out indeed had been recorded on the hotel's computer system. But, when I checked out, I was told that I was tardy checking out, that there was no record of my being granted a late check-out. I don't know what's going on in this so called four star hotel - but Marriott corporate should be notified of the poor service in which it specializes.”
