• Much nicer than I expected. The room was huge and nicely decorated.
• The hotel restaurant/bar closed at 11pm on a Saturday night.

“We drive by the hotel the first time because we couldn't believe that could be the place. It had a very grand entrance and beautiful lobby. Our room was huge. The bed was comfortable and the view was nice. The exercise faculties were amazing, amidst better than my gym at home. The staff was friendly and the room service was reasonable for breakfast. I would stay here again.”

• The room and view were beautiful. It was much more than I expected.
• The restaurant service was horrible. I had to alert the manager. The food was overpriced as well.

“The courtyard in downtown Detroit was a good place for an overnight stay on a business trip. The hotel is conveniently located across the street from the renaissance center. The rooms were huge and well appointed. They were clean but not sparklingly clean. The staff was very pleasant and helpful. I ordered room service, which was expensive (as was parking) but the staff delivered my meal quickly and even called to confirm my wine choice so as not to err. The food was very good. Overall, I had a relaxing stay and would recommend the hotel for business travelers.”

• My room was much larger than I expected. It was more like a small suite than a single room.
• Access from the parking garage skyway to the hotel is confusing.

“This hotel is a great cheaper version of the huge Marriott hotel across the street in the Renaissance Center. I like the small size of the hotel. I arrived around 1 a.m. and found that the staff was extremely friendly and helpful even though they were having computer difficulties. It did not hinder my stay. My room was extremely nice with a pull-out couch, desk and a larger bathroom updated bathroom.”

• The view from our room on the 21st floor was amazing.
• We asked to have a king size bed but ended up with two doubles.

• Smallish (not small) lobby.

“Location, location, location. If you need to be near combo hall / Joe Louis arena in downtown Detroit, it's a 10-minute walk. Unmemorable room (neither good nor bad). An alternative to the pricier Marriott renaissance center across the street which is so big you have trouble getting oriented. Bar nice for small gatherings after a convention day.”

“We had a great stay- beautiful room- more than we expected. They restaurant staff in the morning was horrible. Not so much the servers which we never had one, but the hostess and the cashier, trying to pay at the end of our buffet.”

“This hotel is right in the center of downtown Detroit. The People Mover station in the hotel means you can get to anywhere in the downtown area easily and safely. The lobby bar and restaurant was top-notch and surprisingly affordable. Our room was really large and had a great view. Even had an LCD Flat Panel television!!”

• Some of our clothing got taken.

“The hotel was beautiful and the rooms had a view of the river. We had a problem with the air conditioning in our room and they moved us to a beautiful suite. That made up for the fact that when we moved rooms, we forgot to take our clothing that was hanging in the closet, and when we went back to get it, it was gone and the hotel staff could not locate it. But, overall, it was a very good experience.”

• Newly renovated, modern decor, friendly staff.
• Slow Valet service. No newspaper for weekend travelers.

“This hotel was nice. It is newly renovated with a modern decor. We had a room on the 21st floor and the elevators where quick. The people mover train has a station connected to the building which makes for easy transportation to sporting events. One downside was the valet service, they where slow when we arrived and when we left. Did notice a parking ramp, a block east of the motel which would of been cheaper and more efficient.”

• The people mover took us where we wanted to go. The rooms were beautiful and nicely furnished. The rooms were exceptionally clean and very quiet.
• There wasn't anything we didn't like.

• The room was much bigger than I expected . . .more like a 4 star hotel room.
• The parking was inadequate. $20 per day for valet parking or $10 -$15 per exit at nearby parking facility too much.

“Great location, in the heart of downtown. Very large hotel room - we could not believe it was ours! Would have been even better if we had a microwave in the room but overall it was a very nice room - spacious, clean and a wonderful view of Canada! Excellent room - Thank you!!”

“The hotel was nice and I would stay here again. I enjoyed the pool and fitness area. It was also nice to have a sauna. The rooms were large and comfortable. • The exquisite fabric and designs made me feel pampered. I loved seeing echoing of texture and pattern in the chairs, bedspread, carpet and drapes.
• Great shampoo and conditioner but no lotion.

“When traveling for my job it is SO important to end my day in a room that gives me some feeling of comfort and home. Most Marriots have a touch of class in their decor and design that give me the feeling I'm not in an uncaring impersonal environment. But the Marriot in Detroit went one step further...I felt I was walking into a gallery, from the front door and its black-laquered door, against a right and cheery carpet and wall- like a japanese jewel-box, to the tasteful black and white photos reflecting local history, to the blue carpet and chair with slightly different and echoing patterns. The sheer inner drapes and their tough of gold made me feel cocooned in chiffon. As this beauty eases a frazzled and lonely soul. And the very simple and effective re-positioning of the bed so that it doesn't face the wall but the window instead shows you don't have to spend money to be effective, ,you just have to think outside of the hotel-room box! I hope I have the opportunity to stay here again. Madonna Hamel”

“With the exception of my new dented vehicle (Valet Parking), the hotel was very nice. Great for Detroit Red Wings fans. People Mover goes directly from hotel to Joe Louis Arena.”
