• Parking was convenient and free! The staff was very nice and accommodating.
• Although the beds looked very inviting and soft, they were actually uncomfortable.

• I did not like not staying here before.

• I appreciated the security features with regards to using the hotel key card to access the elevators. The person that cleans the room was pleasant.
• I requested to have my bed sheets changed and it did not happen. Also, I requested a wake up call and did not receive it.

“Nice hotel, decent location. The parking situation was bad. Communication between customer to front desk to staff was very weak.”

• I liked the quietness, it was easy to relax. They treated me like a special customer and gave me the guest floor. I love the service.
• On my second day they cancelled my key somehow by mistake, it was somewhat inconvenient but they corrected the problem. It did not change my opinion.

“I am very interested in becoming a guest at the Westin Southfield hotel. I go to hotels in Southfield quite often, usually ones that have a kitchen inside, I enjoyed the Westin Southfield so much I didn't miss the kitchen and I loved the room. It was very comfortable, nice view and the service was good. I felt like a VIP.”

• Workout room was well equipped, pool was clean with towel amply supplied.
• Pool was only 3m high and not very big-good for small children. Internet charge.

“The hotel was located close to the freeway, great on/off access. The workout room was well equipped and open for long hours. The pool was comfortably warm. The Jacuzzi was nice and hot.”

• Ongoing construction. Bar/restaurant closes early. Room service hours to short.

“They should have room service 24/7. The requests for late check out times should be more answered more consistently. I was told several times that the late checkout is at 1:00 pm. However, I have been able to get lake check out as late as 3:00 pm depending on which staff member was answering the requests. I really appreciated that. There's your 'good karma'!”

• Clean, well-designed rooms and extremely comfortable beds.
• The staff was extremely unfriendly, antagonistic, and unhelpful.

“It's right off the John C. Lodge Parkway, which makes for quick entry into the Downtown area, but it's far enough outside of town to get away from the hustle and bustle. The beds rank up there with some of the most comfortable I've ever slept in. However, the hotel staff is also some of the rudest and most unaccommodating I've ever encountered (and I can say this after a couple visits over the course of two years). The Westin needs to retrain every one of their staff at this hotel, emphasizing customer service and friendliness.”

• The bellmen are the best. Guest services exceeded our expectations. Very cordial and accommodating.
• I requested a king size bed foe to the fact I had just had major surgery and needed the ample space for extra pillows, but was denied!

“In the lobby I found lots of dust on the furniture and filthy area rugs that I really don't expect to see in a 4 star hotel. Our room was very clean and the bed nice and fresh.”

“The location is quite out of the way, with nothing interesting within walking distance, but it is easily accessibly by highway and so useful for business travelers who have a rental car. The hotel is clean and staff were helpful.”

• The beds and TV.
• Adjoining rooms with noisy neighbors on weekends the service personnel in bar poor.

“Although the room was fabulous and front desk and room service great, the downside is the "weekenders" who come to party in all hours of the night. Unfortunately, although we were pacified by front desk. Management on phone nothing was done for the smoking and partying next door till 5AM except phone calls and warnings, the party should have been removed after smoking violation and repeated warnings concerning noise, the next day management was understanding but we lost a night's sleep.”

• Rooms are large and carpet was new.
• Internet did not function for the entire stay; couches in both rooms I looked at were stained.

“The beds? Plenty of 2 and 3 star hotels have the same quality beds and linens. The only hotels elevator which operated at night did not work properly. The interior of the elevators look like freight elevators. There was no elevator security at night. The internet was down the entire length of my stay. There are no bathrobes. There were food crumbs on the couch. Sure the carpeting is new but the bathtub had rust around the drain. The desktop had sticky smudges. Sure the room had a flat screen TV; so what. Hyatt Place is far superior to Westin.”

• Beds were comfortable and hotel staff was very accommodating. Pet friendly a big plus.
• Furniture in room looked quite old and was a bit beaten up. Needs repair/replace.

• Very comfortable bed, liked the brain teasers, double headed shower was great.
• The air conditioner did not work in our room, so it became rather stuffy.

“This hotel was great for our needs. Only a short distance from Lawrence Technological University where we were headed the next day. The roads are a little confusing to get to the front door. Otherwise a terrific stay.”

“We stay here whenever visiting the Detroit area. It is close enough to Downtown and near Royal Oak etc. The area is very quiet and the parking is free. Definitely not where you would stay for nightlife but very clean, comfortable and easy to get to.”

• Great staff, ample room sizes, and great location in Southfield, MI.
• Restaurant "Table Service" was excellent, Breakfast buffet service was poor. Also, common areas of the lobby were under renovation during my stay.

“This was my second stay at the Westin, Southfield MI. I have had other stays in Southfield but this hotel is a great stay, in a great location just outside center city Detroit. I would gladly stay again!”

• Due to construction, public space was inaccessible and/or in disarray.

“This is a good hotel. It's a little tricky finding it, and getting to the temporary front desk from the parking structure, due to construction. The public space are a bit worn around the edges (presumably the ongoing renovation will upgrade them) and so, calling it a 4 star is a slight stretch. The room was comfortable and more than adequate, although not otherwise remarkable. The pool area was small, but very pleasant, with attractive tiling and furniture, and it was so empty that our family of 4 had it to ourselves.”

• Some of the guests were loud and could be heard through the walls (infrequent, short bursts).

“We had a hard time finding this hotel from the highway. Once we arrived, the garage was like a maze, and the floor with hotel walkway was full. Major construction all over the hotel, but the staff was very accommodating. Restaurant and room service left lots to be desired. However the little Chinese restaurant behind the hotel on Evergreen was so fresh & delicious! And much cheaper. All in all okay stay for the money but expected more from a 4 star Westin.”

• Key access only elevator.

“The Westin was under renovation when we checked in. The Key Access elevator was very inconvenient. Get on board with a group of people & everyone fishes out their card to select a different floor. Plus it's easy to forget keys & instead of just going up and knocking on the door for roommate to let me in I have to go down and get a key to use elevator first! Bed was way too soft and the duvet between two sheets was very dirty with dark brown stains. Outrageous charge for internet everyday! Very difficult to find as well, crowded garage. Okay but would not stay again.”

• Wheres the mini fridge? Black people yelling all night (11:30pm till 5 in the morning).

“Very nice hotel, to bad its in Detroit. Hotel staff should have cleared the black people out of the hallway. I could hear them being loud and yelling all night. You could hear through the doors which was not pleasing. Hotel staff should have kept these party people out of the hotel, or they should have made them shut up. I could hear them from 11:00 pm till 5 am. The blacks showed no respect to any other race. Hotel staff should profile people.”

• Not in downtown so we didn't get shot.
• Under construction and a $50 cab ride to downtown.

“We had a group of 7 and traveled for the Midwest regional for the NCAA basketball championship. The hotel was significantly cheaper but it turns out it was under construction (pool, workout room, and lobby) and was a $50 dollar cab ride for a normal size cab $75 for the guy who was at the hotel. Detroit is basically the worst city in the nation and disgusts me. I'm just glad the seven of us made it out alive, although extremely in debt.”

“This Westin is older, but is holding up ok. They were re-doing the pool so it was closed. The beds are extremely comfortable and the flat screen TV was nice. There was a safe for storing valuables that came in very handy. More like a 3 star than a 4, but nice and in a safe neighborhood.”

• It was great that we did not have to go to the front desk.
• The iron did not work; that was the only thing.

“We were in a room on the 3rd floor and the only thing that we had a problem was the safe in the room didn't work and the tub was keeping water in it. So they move us to another room on the 9th floor and the only thing was the iron didn't work but other than that love the room and stay”

“Excellent accommodations - would definitely recommend this hotel and stay there again. Front desk staff were very friendly and customer service oriented. Rooms were spacious, clean, comfortable with all the amenities. Large flat screen TV in room was nice as were real glass wine glasses, ice bucket etc. instead of plastics. Will definitely return to this hotel during our next visit.”

• Recent renovation of my room. Nice color scheme.
• Under renovation and not mentioned before my trip.

“Under renovation. Hotel trying to maintain guest services, Pool is closed. Gym is scaled down. Loud renovations into the early evening. Staff is friendly. Wi-Fi was free in the lobby (good plus). 1 computer for the "business center". Fair stay. Had been really good in the recent past. Wished I had known about the renovations.”

• Location. We had to hunt for good restaurants.
