“Good continental breakfast” Sep 23, 2008 by
Angelique from Pittsboro, NC
“This was the host hotel for our small conference. The location was ideal, the staff was wonderful and friendly (even made last minute copies for me at the height of check-in time), the down comforters were very nice, meeting rooms were big enough to hold our board meeting in, as well as prepare documents for our conference attendees. I recommend this hotel for meeting planners as well as visitors to the Kalamazoo and Portage areas.” Sep 11, 2008 by
Mike from Bloomington, IL
“Very friendly staff, welcoming and very responsive.” Sep 10, 2008 by
Tom from Wakarusa, IN
“Rooms very comfortable and clean. Staff was helpful. Breakfast was tasty.” Sep 8, 2008 by
Anne from Brighton, MI
“This hotel was efficient, comfortable and average in service. I would stay there again.” Sep 3, 2008 by
Margaret from London, ON CA
“The hotel was nice especially for the price. It was a bit of a distance from restaurants but close to there highway. Overall I would recommend this hotel.” Aug 25, 2008 by
Ernie from Streamwood, IL
“Everything with this hotel is on par with a Best Western Inn. The free breakfast is nice, but the morning I was eating there, the batter machine for the waffles was broken. The fitness room equipment looks like it was picked up at garage sales. It had a cheap exercise bike, treadmill and stair machine. The free weights were a set of 40, 20, 10 and 5 lbs dumbbells. Who ever picked this stuff out didn't exercise themselves.” Aug 15, 2008 by
Barb from Toledo, OH
“I would not suggest anyone to go to this hotel.” Aug 11, 2008 by
Marty from Maumee, OH
“Do not and I repeat do not stay at this hotel. They do not have proper staffing that is informed on how to operate hotel equipment. We got our room checked in then when returning could not get back into our room. They made us stay in another room with none of our stuff. We were told later that they new there was a problem and never addressed fixing the door lock. At 3:55 in the morning there was a knock on the door and a note slid in that our door was fixed as if this was a remedy. I would never stay nor recommend this hotel to anyone. The staff was rude and no accommodating.” Aug 9, 2008 by
Monty from Simpsonville, SC
“Normally with PL a 2.5 is usually a Marriott Courtyard, Residence Inn, etc. This was well below what I have stayed in as a 2.5 star.” Aug 8, 2008 by
Jon from Peoria, IL
“This hotel may have been nice when it opened 20+ years ago but it is very tired and dirty now. I would not recommend it to anyone who cares about staying in a nice hotel with your family. The soda and ice machines were broke. Our beds were worn out and light bulbs were missing in at least two fixtures. This hotel should not be any higher than a one star hotel.” Aug 6, 2008 by
Sarah from Fort Wayne, IN
“Wallpaper peeling noisy hallways and ice machine kept me up all night. Instant hot water (this was great).” Aug 5, 2008 by
Heather from Fenton, MI
“This one was predictably uncomfortable (bed hard etc, not enough pillows) and had the old air conditioner you'd expect at a Days Inn or Super 8 Motel.” Jul 19, 2008 by
Larry from Indianapolis, IN
“Nothing extraordinary here. I hate the iron being screwed to the ironing board on the wide end - it makes it unusable. Bed was ok, shower was ok. Maybe a star and a half, but not two stars.” Jul 3, 2008 by
Meghan from Rockford, MI
“The room itself was terrible. It was dirty, there was actually food inside the vents on the air conditioning unit. The bathroom light didn't work (and after bringing it to the attention of the front desk and a promise to have it fixed, we still spent our entire stay going to the bathroom in the dark and taking showers in the dark). The wallpaper border was peeling of the wall. We were nervous to actually sleep on the sheets. we were on a non-smoking floor next to a room of smokers. This was also brought to the attention of the front desk. The gentleman working told me "maybe they are smokers". yeah, well, not on a non-smoking floor they shouldn't be! It was a terrible hotel. Terrible staff and in a pretty bad area of Kalamazoo.” Jun 7, 2008 by
Claudia from Iron River, MI
“Overall very clean, good breakfast, nice pool area. A bit out of the way from Kalamazoo proper, but convenient to the highway which helped.” Jun 7, 2008 by
Steven from Flushing, MI
“Considerably nicer than most Best Westerns. Appearance of recent renovations, a pleasant surprise. Clean grounds and property, staff, small but responsive. TV reception poor. Decent room for the price.” May 19, 2008 by
Larry from Indianapolis, IN
“Good-Internet connectivity, bed, accommodations bad-the desk chair has a broken right arm rest and a huge hole in the seat that looks like it was originally cigarette burned. The room has a "freshener" smell designed to cover up smoke, but it is a non-smoking room. These things are inconvenient. When I brushed my teeth, I discovered that the cold water, that I had been drinking without checking, was brown tinted. I let the water run to see if it was just an anomaly, but it remained a constant brown tinted water. Needless to say, it made me nauseous. This one factor will keep me from ever staying here again.” May 16, 2008 by
K from Davis, CA
“Some of the rooms at Best Western - Kalamazoo have the old standard hotel quilt bedding, but some have very nice "down" comforters and soft blankets. The king-bed rooms have a comfortable recliner and table that the queen-bed rooms do not. The nicer desks are also in the king rooms. Refrigerators are not standard in the rooms unfortunately and only a limited number are available for $10 extra per night. The old air conditioners are okay (unless you like to really chill the room), but the new digital air conditioners are poorly designed -- they adjust to a selected temperature, but take their temperature readings based on the outside air, not your room temperature. This makes it impossible to cool your room down, if the night is cool (but your room is still hot). This is a -major- problem if you don't want to open your window because you are on the first floor (safety) or have allergies (during the spring). The showers are nice. The sink counter area is extremely small and poorly designed. The toilet paper is not sandpaper, but far from nice. The soap is standard motel fare. The shampoos are the shampoo/conditioner blend instead of a separate conditioner (really important to some). The TV picture quality seemed rather poor, but was watch able. The staff was very courteous at all times. The complimentary breakfast is rather nice. The highlight is the malted batter waffles you can make yourself (pre-mix, but high quality waffle makers). Rest of breakfast items (same every day) include sausage, SOS (meat gravy on biscuits), pre-made French toast you put in the toaster, toast, bagels, cold hard-boiled eggs, coffee, orange juice, milk, cereals, fruit, pastries (they run out fast), and small muffins (not very good). If you want a donut, head down the street to Sweetwater's (ask at the desk) for some of the best in the country.” May 13, 2008 by
Michelle from Fremont, MI
“Would stay at again if in area.” May 2, 2008 by
Madonna from Sterling Heights, MI
“Hotel is good. First time the other guest I booked in a room had some problems with clean towels. Overall, the hotel is good for business travelers.” Apr 13, 2008 by
William from Mishawaka, IN
“I would never stay here again. New sheets do not make a new hotel. The basic property is worn out, the staff minimally effective, the exercise room had no tread mill, and the clientele there were worse than the hotel!” Mar 30, 2008 by
Guga from Dunlap, IL
“In Chicago area, 2.5 star hotels are much better than this place. It needs to be cleaned. The clock does not work in the room.” Mar 13, 2008 by
Lynette from Kalamazoo, MI
“I spent a lot of money on this weekend for my daughters Birthday. I even ended up renting another room at full price. There was so much chlorine in the pool. It ruined 5 swimsuits and girls had chemical burns and ruined hair. I will never go back to this hotel and am considering legal action.” Mar 12, 2008 by
Lynette from Kalamazoo, MI
“The staff was rude and unhelpful. There was an electrical fire and the pool had too much chlorine in it and ruined all our swim suits. Also, some girls hair was ruined. I only received 40% off my bill and the money for the swim suits back. I feel I should have been given all my money back. I am still dealing with angry parents over this. It ruined my daughters Birthday.” Feb 18, 2008 by
Mary
“This was above my expectations. It was a very nice, clean and friendly hotel. The rooms were large, and very nicely decorated. Nice location away from the highway traffic noise. Definitely would stay there again.” Feb 4, 2008 by
Ernie from Streamwood, IL
“The rooms are nice and there are restaurants close by. It's also near the interstate.” Jan 25, 2008 by
Emily from Portage, MI
“This was a nice place to stay if you're looking for an above average hotel in the Kalamazoo area. It is an attractive hotel with clean rooms and a friendly staff.” Jan 13, 2008 by
Steve from Ypsilanti, MI
“Ok hotel, friendly staff, free breakfast was satisfactory, rooms on the small side.” Dec 17, 2007 by
Jeff from West Bloomfield, MI
“Overall, this is a nice hotel. However, I did not sleep through the night because I was so incredibly dry. 4 days later, I am still itching all over because the humidity in the hotel was non existent. I have never had a problem with dry skin or falling asleep in any hotel. However, I only slept for about two hours and my entire body was miserably dry.” Nov 12, 2007 by
Patrick from Marshall, MI
“The hotel needs to be updated. It had the smallest shower stall created and it did not have a shower curtain liner. I had to turn sideways to shower or the shower curtain would have been stuck to me. The front desk people and some other employees were smoking out front of the hotel and propped the front door open. A very unattractive and unpleasant way to meet your guests. My wife and I also smelled like smoke as soon as we walked into the lobby from our rooms.” Nov 8, 2007 by
Danyel from Bethlehem, PA
“This hotel had no extra anything including blankets and pillows! The non smoking floors were filled with smoke. My child has asthma and it was hard to deal with we did end up sleeping in the SUV for a little while because people were smoking. I had a nonsmoking room. I feel ripped off I paid for a room I did not get to use. Because of all of the smoke.” Oct 15, 2007 by
Vicky from Petoskey, MI
“Good location, but very outdated and old. Staff is totally awesome and friendly, however, and as helpful as can be. Fitness equipment in poor shape, room was very clean but bed is old/hard and decor needs to be updated.” Oct 10, 2007 by
Brenda from Casco, MI
“Bugs in the bed, TV remote volume did not work, requested 3 extra towels and was only given two and they were still damp. No towels at the pool, sauna controls were broken, breakfast discontinued at 10a.m on Sunday - other hotels extends to 11am on weekends.” Oct 9, 2007 by
Corinne from Spring Lake, MI
“Our room smelled like animals, there were stains on the sheets; there was no view except of an overgrown shrub outside the window. Very dissatisfied.” Sep 13, 2007 by
Mike from Sheridan, IN
“It was very nice and clean and perfect for a short overnight stay that we had. My wife and I traveled with our young children and when we got to the room there was only one king-sized bed so we called the front desk to see if they had any double queen rooms and they did and they moved us without a problem.” Sep 6, 2007 by
Robert from Mi, MI
“All in all, was a very nice room, and was very roomy, and clean. Plenty of well lit parking, and people were very nice. It was a nice weekend visit. I would certainly stay there again.” Aug 29, 2007 by
Steve from Saint Charles, IL
“Overall good experience and would return in the future when needed.” Aug 27, 2007 by
Michelle S. from Spring Grove, IL
“I would not stay at this hotel again. I thought the beds were scary, and uncomfortable. The bedding didn't look or feel clean.” Aug 4, 2007 by
Hris from Ann Arbor, MI
“Pleasant enough accommodations but I was upset that staff did not care about abuse of posted no alcohol, no food or beverages in pool area rule. My children did not need to share a pool with beer cans.” Jul 30, 2007 by
Sharon from Schenectady, NY
“Best Western rooms are spacious and comfortable; the cleaning staffs are energetic, cheerful, and friendly. The complimentary breakfast is ready early and is ample.” Jul 28, 2007 by
Mark from Bloomington, MN
“Poor.” Jul 19, 2007 by
Ashraf from East Lansing, MI
“Everything was ok except of the food.” Jun 13, 2007 by
Jackie from Dearborn, MI
“Hotel is nice. Staff could use some cuss training. The pool was closed on Sunday for the entire day because some kids apparently threw lawn chairs in the pool? Did not make much sense and when we inquired and expressed our dismay the staff simply said "well if people do not watch their children, we can not be responsible." First to say something like that to us -- who had a 4 yr old that never went near the pool and what never out of out sight, is unnecessary and rude. Second, do not they have a security staff to watch out for vandalism such as it was? It also did not add up. Why would you need to close a pool for the whole day for some lawn chairs?” Apr 1, 2007 by
Kari from Linwood, MI
“Will definitely stay someplace else if in that area again.” Mar 1, 2007 by
Janice from Marysville, MI
“With the large crowds they said they get, the eating area for breakfast was very small. Because of the condition, very loud people, (kids) running up and down the halls, and nothing being done we left during the night. Also the room not that cleans. Could have been better. Plus the pool was out of order during the time in which we were only able to use it. Complaints were made, but I guess they did not write them down, so nothing will be done. So I do not think I will be going to this hotel again. There are many others in the area.” Dec 3, 2006 by
Renna from Berrien Springs, MI
“Hotel has the feel of an older oversized convention hotel - being near wings stadium. But the hotel staff were friendly, the room very clean and adequate. They also offer an indoor pool, hot tub, and sauna, which the kids loved. Our stay was very short - over night to catch a flight - but I would stay there again for that purpose.” Aug 19, 2006 by
Harriett from Detroit, MI
“Great value and good atmosphere.” Aug 14, 2006 by
Michael from Fort Belvoir, VA
“Overall the visit went well other than the phone and rating block on the TV.” Jul 31, 2006 by
Tom from Muncie, IN
“This is a very attractive hotel with nice furnishings. The facilities are, for the most part, well kept although there was some red mold growing around the shower head and above the bathtub wall - very unexpected for a hotel of this level. The staff is very friendly and will go out of their way to help. The continental breakfast offered is also better than the average fare.”
