“We stayed here for our anniversary, and it was wonderful! The pool was very clean & it was nice to have it open24 hours. the hot breakfast was great, excpet the eggs weren't very tasty and they could use a little more space in that room. Our room was clean and comfortable. We're looking forward to staying here again!” Sep 4, 2008 by
Douglas from Warren, MI
“I really enjoyed our stay; most (positive) thing about our stay was the friendliness of the staff from the desk clerks to housekeeping and maintenance. The most (negative) aspect was the fact that I am partially disabled and have to use a cane or walker to move around. Since our room was on the second floor and all the way at the end of the building it really hurt to climb the stairs and walk to the room. I do not fault the hotel at all; they were not aware of my physical limitations until we arrived, but then offered to carry our bags to our room. Secondly, the Jacuzzi: super loud, wife could only use it about 15 minutes then she got a severe headache from the noise/whine of the motor. I couldn't use it at all because I feared that I wouldn't be able to get out because there were not any sort of handrails to assist me.” Aug 14, 2008 by
Wendy from Muskegon, MI
“For years, we have stayed at this hotel whenever we visit the area. We keep returning because of the consistent quality and the excellent location. They have several spa rooms which are always nice and very clean. We did try the new free, full breakfast and found it very disappointing. The hot food (eggs & sausage) were bland and unappealing. However, there are a couple of very nice restaurants nearby with excellent breakfast offerings. We have recommended this hotel in the past and will continue to do so in the future.” Aug 11, 2008 by
Lyza from Rockford, MI
“This hotel was a great stay for a night over. Enjoyed the loft and hot tub!” Jun 4, 2008 by
Kevin from Mount Pleasant, MI
“Overall the hotel did not meet my expectations. The staff was really the only good quality the hotel had.” May 27, 2008 by
Anna from Dewitt, MI
“It was what I was looking for as a recent college graduate needing a cheap yet clean place to stay while interviewing away from home. It was convenient, the room was clean, they had a nice free hot/cold breakfast.” May 23, 2008 by
Jenny from Ann Arbor, MI
“Good, economical stay in Traverse City - excellent location with an opportunity to save on breakfast (included with room).” May 22, 2008 by
Lisa from Muskegon, MI
“Very nice hotel. The staff was very friendly and helpful! Great location close to everything!” Dec 2, 2007 by
Jason from Petoskey, MI
“Room was fairly clean and had a good set-up with the computer table.” Sep 17, 2007 by
Elisabeth from Richards Landing, ON CA
“We were upgraded to a deluxe room, but that was not too much help. The staff was very good and knew us on second encounters. The pool is in need of some work, and we were a little concerned about our safety. The complementary breakfast was very nice.” Sep 11, 2007 by
Pacifico from Ithaca, NY
“I am very satisfied with the Hotel. I hope my luck continuous and this is not a one time deal.” May 30, 2007 by
Ari from Washington, DC
“Okay Hotel, but smoking room spoiled it all.” May 12, 2007 by
Soo J. from Champaign, IL
“Very convenient and good location.” Apr 30, 2007 by
Tim from Amherst, NY
“The location of the hotel is perfect. Many restaurants, scenery, and shopping nearby. You can walk to everything you need, including a scenic walk along Grand Traverse Bay. My room was clean, quiet, and warm. Though I was traveling solo for business, I would not hesitate to bring my family back to this hotel.” Apr 23, 2007 by
Kelly from Wauseon, OH
“The carpet in the lobby looked like it had not been replaced in 20 years.” Feb 28, 2007 by
Brad from Jenison, MI
“Staff was helpful with upgrade to a room with a king size bed (for 50 bucks), and directions around town. We liked it.” Feb 19, 2007 by
Lisa from Wayland, MI
“For the price is it a fun place to take the kids for swimming and snowmobiling.” Feb 6, 2007 by
Jim from Alma, MI
“Great staff full of ideas of things to do in the area; manager even stepped out to say hi and offered his input on things to do while in traverse. Enjoyed our room with microwave and frig, very clean and comfortable. Pool is the deepest we've ever seen, 11ft and very warm, helped shake off the bitter cold weather outside. For a continental breakfast, which we were expecting donuts and coffee, we were surprised to find so many other items, including hot cereals. We were very happy with our stay and weren't disappointed, we'll be back!” Feb 4, 2007 by
Susan from Comstock Park, MI
“I wouldn¿t recommend this place to anyone the staff was rude and unfriendly. ” Jan 17, 2007 by
Matt from Grand Rapids, MI
“We booked a non-smoking room several days ahead of time in January (an off-season time of year). After checking in, we opened the door to our room to find an air filter on the bed, ash trays on the table, and a very strong smell. We returned to the front desk and discovered that this particular room was last room available in the main wing of the motel. The staff claimed that the room wasn't supposed to be a smoking room (I didn't believe them, all the non-smoking rooms had signs on the doors and this one clearly did not). We refused to stay in a smoking room so they had to open up a non-smoking room for us in an unoccupied section of the motel. The staff was pleasant; I just wish I wasn't given the runaround.” Jan 11, 2007 by
Tom from Alpena, MI
“My wife is neurotic about spiders. We have never seen a spider in any hotel until this stay when it appeared over our bed. In January? Continental breakfast was not conducive to healthy eating: watery job, any yogurt, shriveled fruit, bad, watery coffee. Once in traverse city, we found with current "snow less" conditions in a winter sports town, we could have stayed in any 4 star place for less!” Dec 21, 2006 by
Robert from Grass Lake, MI
“The hotel in general was very nice and is in a central location close to every think in traverse city and I would recommend it to any one who casks about it.” Dec 20, 2006 by
Michael from Beulah, MI
“One star...not two. Very clean, friendly staff, but it was clearly going out of business and felt like the dollar store of lodging options.” Dec 18, 2006 by
Linda from Troy, MI
“We have stayed at the best western before probably 10 times in 10 years. I dont think we will be back. The mattresses were new but very cheap. Very uncomfortable. We are smokers and when we walked in the room the smell of air freshener just about knocked me over. I think it was papaya and mango, one of those constant air freshener machines. Sickeningly sweet. I would suggest they get better smelling room air fresheners.” Dec 13, 2006 by
Cathy from Pontiac, MI
“Buildings were to far from the pool/lobby. No internet access. Couldn't upgrade our room. Couldn't get a smoking room.” Oct 30, 2006 by
Heather from Eaton Rapids, MI
“The hotel is conveniently located to downtown Traverse City. The hotel was very old and outdated although as far as I could tell, was clean. We only stayed one night and that was more than enough. I would have been disappointed in the accommodations had I needed to stay longer.” Oct 17, 2006 by
Lynne from Saranac, MI
“Clean, convenient and private.” Oct 16, 2006 by
Tim from Alma, MI
“Great staff who go out of their way to tell you about the area and things to do while in Traverse City. Stayed in a deluxe room in the main building and they are much nicer than the standard rooms. Room rates are expensive in the summer, but so is all the hotels in Traverse City. Breakfast is continental, but you get a lot more than just donuts and coffee. Great pool and deep with hot tub. Clean room with new furniture, love the Cherry! ” Sep 30, 2006 by
Julie from Muskjegon, MI
“Good price and location.” Sep 25, 2006 by
Lynne from Saranac, MI
“The Best Western Four Seasons is a very nice hotel for travelers on a budget. It is strategically placed for easy access and the rooms are virtually soundproof.” Sep 22, 2006 by
Johnny from Mikado, MI
“They told us that we were "lucky, lucky" to even get a room that weekend due to the Detroit Red Wings being in town. The price of the rooms had gone dramatically up - from around $94 a night to $200. If we could not stand the smoky room, there was nothing they could do that night, we would have to wait until the next morning and they would try and get the room to smell better for us. Best Western should have called us to tell us they were bumping us to a smoking room. What if the allergies to smoke would have been bad that we could have not stayed? There were no rooms in Traverse City for us to go to dur to the Red Wings being in town. If Best Western did not like us paying $35.00 a night then they should not have accepted that price. We will not recommend this hotel to anyone. The overall service was bad. The maid service was even terrible.” Sep 21, 2006 by
Gailee from Mt Pleasant, MI
“Perfect location for visiting the wineries.” Sep 10, 2006 by
Deb from Grandville, MI
“Stay was as comfortable as the $250/ per night hotel the night before, and had a staff that outranked the more expensive stay.” 1 of 1 people found this review helpful.Jul 16, 2006 by

“Of course any hotel is going to give preference to a higher paying guest in the same room type to better location, etc. Why do people think they can pay $30 for a room in a resort town such as Traverse City and not get stuck closest to the road, next to the ice machines, or in a smoking room? And of course this hotel is located on 5 acres of land, has torn down 2 large buildings in the center, and will be putting up a new hotel, therefore the standard rooms are located in the furthest out building. If you want nice, then shell out some extra bucks to stay in a deluxe room in the main building. From staying here all the time I know the headaches their front desk staff has to put up with from guests that expect an economy hotel to be on the same level as a 4 star resort hotel. If this is your first stay in Traverse City in the summer and are shocked to find out that room rates are $150 and more, and then whine because you aren't getting the amenities of the Ritz Carlton, then you need to do your research. Every hotel/motel in Traverse City during the busy summer season is expensive, this town is the #1 vacation Mecca of Michigan and much like any business, when demand far exceeds availability, rates are going to be through the roof compared to other cities, even Las Vegas. I also know that their front desk staff is very accommodating and strive to provide a clean comfortable stay and be outgoing, providing lots of information on things to do, etc., but some people just can't be pleased, either the pool is too hot, or too cool, or the pool hours for adults isn't enforced, yet if they do enforce it parents complain about them not being flexible, or beds are too soft or too hard, and I can go on and on from what I've overhead in the lobby and breakfast room. I know from my own business that sometimes problems just happen, and I'm sure it is no different trying to run a hotel, you have guests that trash rooms, or an air conditioner dies, or other mechanical issues arise. People forget that things like this happen and if you notice something wrong with your room, you need to notify the staff as quickly as possible so they can resolve the problem. I know personally I always walk into my room and I turn everything on, a/c, TV, lights, etc. before I even begin to unpack to make sure everything is operable and if I find a problem I call down to the front desk and they take care of it. Don't wait until you check out and whine about it and expect a hotel to discount your room. You have to give them an opportunity to fix the problem so that your stay is enjoyable. Now if they ignore your issues, or don't fix the problem, then you have a right to expect a discount. Just my 2 cents worth.” 2 of 2 people found this review helpful.Jul 3, 2006 by

“We would not pay anymore than we did for this hotel. Nice location in town. Nice size room. The AC is very loud. The furniture and towels are cheap. Long walk to pool, breakfast and lobby but we got exercise.” 1 of 1 people found this review helpful.Jul 2, 2006 by
Cindy from Lake Orion, MI
“The hotel is older and the rooms show their age. LONG walk to the breakfast area/lobby and rooms where we stayed and all rooms did not have Internet access (you have to be in a deluxe room closer to the lobby). Had to go to breakfast area to connect to Internet Breakfast area was small and dark. Breakfast selection was limited. Staff was helpful.” 1 of 1 people found this review helpful.Jun 30, 2006 by

“Probably OK for a family stay, but avoid if you're traveling for business, especially if you're a heavy Internet user.” 1 of 1 people found this review helpful.Jun 24, 2006 by

“The Best Western seems to have bought out another hotel unit as there was some distance between the office and main unit and our unit which had a driveway and not particularly appealing landscape in between.” 1 of 1 people found this review helpful.May 10, 2006 by

“Very good quality for the price. The hotel was clean and the staff very nice. The rooms were nice. The pool area very family friendly.” 1 of 1 people found this review helpful.May 9, 2006 by

“It was what I would classify as a 1 star motel, dated buildings in need of a major overhaul.” May 3, 2006 by
Sandy from Fennville, MI
“I was disappointed in the fact that the hotel would not work with me for a non-smoking room, except to say "It will cost you $25.00 to upgrade". I didn't need to upgrade I just wanted non-smoking, which they wouldn't do. They put us in a separate section not attached to the main lobby back where the "cheap" rooms were with people who partied all night & were loud. I wasn't expecting a fancy room, however, I did expect a clean (smelling)& quiet stay were I felt safe. I didn't feel particularly safe with the people outside at 2 & 4 o'clock in the morning. ” 1 of 1 people found this review helpful.May 3, 2006 by

“Staff was generally not helpful. Ignored my telephone request for bed-type (was told my request would be granted but it was not upon my arrival at the hotel).” 1 of 1 people found this review helpful.Apr 30, 2006 by

“We were in a hotel apart from the main hotel and would have had to walk quite far to the pool. The hot tub was cold, they said they had just filled it but it was 4 in the afternoon and it should have been filled at night after it was closed. There were a couple of bugs in the room. A smashed whiskey bottle was 2 feet from the main door to the lobby and nobody moved it.” Apr 20, 2006 by
Patricia from Ypsilanti, MI
“I was sorely disappointed upon arrival at this hotel. They sent us to a room that was so horridly reeking of smoke that no one could have stood it. When I complained I was informed that I had to take that room or NO room at all, unless I paid for an upgrade. I ended up paying $50 more per night for a non smoking room. The room we had was very nice other than the fact that it was undusted and had not been dusted in some time. ” Apr 17, 2006 by
Chris from Bay City, MI
“I was not given the option of a smoking room, therefore none was left. We had to smoke outside the room in front of everyone. The ice maker was not working, so we had to drive to go get ice. The room itself was smelly and not well kept. I was totally dissatisfied, and kept going to management until something was done. I got placed into a room with one king sized bed, although it was much nicer, I had three other travelers with me!!!” Apr 10, 2006 by
Julie from Port Charlotte, FL
“Our room was infested with ants, my son had ant bites all over his body. We were transferred to another room for the second night which was much better. No compensation was offered.” 1 of 1 people found this review helpful.Apr 9, 2006 by

“We were located in another building separate from the main, probably more than two football fields away or more. My kids had to be driven to use the pool, for breakfast or anything else in the main lobby. The ice machine in our building was broken and had to drive to main building for ice. It was really inconvenient all around. They said they could upgrade me to the main building for $40 more. More than what the room cost me to begin with. It wasn't warm enough outside for the long walks to the main lobby. I can't even imagine in the winter time.” 1 of 1 people found this review helpful.Apr 5, 2006 by

“This hotel is of 1970's vintage, with rooms and public spaces in need of updating. These rooms do provide conveniences such as a refrigerator, microwave, coffee maker, hairdryer and ironing board with iron. The setting is pretty, northern woodlands, but its potential beach access is blocked by college and private property. It appears the hotel annexed a neighboring property, because there is a second building which requires its guests to travel 100 yards across the parking lot to access the pool and the breakfast room, a walk which can be quite chilly & treacherous most of the year in this northern climate.”
