• Outdated needs complete renovation and cleaning.

“Holiday Inn claims hotel was renovated in the last few years. Obviously only partial renovation; outdated furnishings. Our shower did not have current code required pressure mixing valve, so water temperature would change from comfortably warm to scalding hot in an instant. Floor tile grout in bathroom was grayish black from mold.”

• Location.
• Walls were very thin, could hear people in hallway.

“I thought the hotel was okay. Apparently the doors and walls were paper thin. The guests in the hallway could be heard easily. Was kept up from the noise the first night.”

• The room on the courtyard was very nice overlooking the garden area.
• To get to your room you had to walk quite a bit.

“The hotel has seen its better days, however attempts are made to make one feel comfortable. Doors are spot painted to cover up issues, versus painting the entire door. TV remote worked sporadically. Front desk service, bar service and restaurant service were very good and personable.”

• The hotel staff was very friendly and the hotel was clean.
• I did not like the fact that the hotel laundry service was very slow. I had to call 3 times to get additional washcloths which delayed our plans.

“The hotel was in a prime location. The staff was very friendly. The only complaints that I did not like about the hotel was that the hotel did not honor your membership in their holiday inn club. I had my membership number and still was told to pay for breakfast and it cost 40 dollars in the hotel restaurant. We also ordered room service. If we had used our holiday inn discount card we would have received bonus points.”

• The hotel staff treated us very well.

“The hotel staff was much friendlier at this local hotel than at the last one we reserved through Priceline. Although we paid a greatly reduced price for the room, they treated us no differently than if we had paid full price. The building was a bit old, but the interior of the hotel was very clean and inviting.”

• More than I expected. I would recommend this hotel.
• Nothing.

“It was an old Hilton changed to a Holiday Inn. This is a full service hotel at a very convenient location. The staff was very friendly and helpful. My children were very impressed with the staff. They made them fell very special. I would recommend this hotel to any one traveling with family or on business.”

• Location, free parking, comfortable rooms.
• Staff who had to be asked 3 times to bring extra pillows.

“This hotel was in a great central location, easy to get to shopping, Space Center, Botanical Gardens, etc. Easy walk to historic district and hospital area, nice park with a pond and the art museum. Clean and comfortable. Staff was friendly but did have to be asked several times before we finally received extra pillows. Starbucks in the lobby was nice/fast. Free parking.”

“Had to change a room since the shower has only Luke warm water. Sometimes I had to run the water for 30 minutes before hot water comes up. Never know whether I will get Luke warm water or hot water when I take a shower.”

• I really felt safe.
• My room did not have cold water.

“I like the hotel. I did not realized it was 10 minutes ride to University of Alabama. I really was looking for something that was close the University. This is convenient if all your activities are downtown. My head hit the pillows and I was out like the light. I will like a pair of those pillows.”

• It was centrally located.
• Our room smelled bad. The hotel in general was in disrepair.

• Bed was extremely comfortable. Also, as a Priority Club member, I was given access to a concierge level breakfast area.
• Property is a little old, still has some Hilton stuff around. I don't know how long it's been since the brand switch.

“Still a 2.5 star, on the way to a 2 without some renovations in common areas. Staff was amazingly helpful and friendly.”

• Beds were very comfortable; room was spacious.
• View outside our window was unsightly; bathroom lighting was poor, AC unit was noisy and antique.

“The bed was very comfortable, the shower was adequate but the bathroom lighting was poor. Very spacious rooms, and although the hotel was aged, it was clean and well kept. The room AC unit was noisy though, and did not have a temperature control so it ran constantly. We wish we had brought our swimsuits since the pool was outdoors but private. Very personable and professional hotel personnel; all in all we would stay there again.”

• The staff was very friendly and helpful. They have many services conveniently located in the hotel.
• They had contractors in the room next to us as late as 8PM and as early as 7AM.

“The hotel is convenient to Downtown Huntsville, the museums, and the hospital. There is a park with a duck/goose pond located just across the street. Government housing is located about a quarter mile from the hotel. The hotel is older; however, it has been newly renovated. The lobby is nice, but the rooms and the hallway are dark. Overall, our stay was okay. The employees were personable and courteous. They were doing some work in the room next to us, so we had to call at 7PM and 7:30 the following morning to request they stop. Also, someones dog kept barking in the night.”

• The lobby had lovely decor.
• Pretty much every aspect of this room was a disappointment with the exception of the lobby.

“Complete disappointment from start to finish. Room was supposed to be no smoking, even said so on the door. Furniture in room had huge cigarette burns and there were 2 ash trays in a drawer. Saw an employee smoking in a no smoking room across the way as well. Bathroom had no fan and smelled like a basement. Shower handle fell right off onto my foot and would only run very hot water. We were accompanied by friends from Germany and were on a very tight schedule which made changing 2 rooms (2 families of four) at a very late hour impossible. The phone in the room didn't work. In one word it was disgusting.”

• It was dirty and in many areas it was falling apart.

“The hotel was not bad. The carpets in the halls and rooms were stained, the elevators were in need of serious repair and overall the place was old. While I would stay there again, it was not one of the better Holiday Inns. It was a 2.5 star but I would only rate it 2 stars.”

• A little out of date looking.

“Overall this was a very nice hotel. The location was very central, with a gorgeous park across the street, and within walking distance of several eating establishments. (There's also a Friday and Saturday night trolley that stops here and at all the local bars and restaurants.) Some of the very few negatives are that the hotel is showing its age a little, and that it is near a housing project. However, the area was nonetheless very safe (there were people of all sorts walking in the park late in the evening) and there are lots of other hotels in the area, so it isn't as if this hotel is unique in this manner. I enjoyed my stay and would love to return next time I'm in the area.”

“This hotel has great facilities for parties/events, and the rooms are large. I did not like the bathroom, it was tiny and the shower was terrible. It was small, not enough room to move around, water pressure was not good and shower kept shutting off.”

• Great location, friendly staff, lovely decor and the beds are like sleeping on clouds.
• The ice machine never worked, and the soda machine didn't work half the time Starbucks wasn't open long enough.

“Friendly staff. The hotel was in a great location, the bar was nice didn't have to go anywhere to drink, if you have the time to read all the pictures in the hallway you get a nice history lesson about Huntsville I lived in Huntsville for 13 years and never knew some of the history, but the ice machine never worked on the third floor and star bucks seemed like it was never open.”

• The location to Downtown Huntsville.
• There was a fire alarm two out of three days I was there.

“The hotel was OK but I was there for three nights, one morning there was a 6:30 am fire alarm. I came out of my room found the stairs went to the lobby. The hotel staff was not directing the guests at all. I waited for the fire trucks to leave and then I went back up stairs. I call the GM and woke him up. I complained that no staff directed anybody to do anything. The next day we had a fire alarm at 6:00 AM! This time I went down stairs again, one restaurant employee said, "Go outside". I heard the fireman say, it is that ground fault thing again. I talked to two ladies in the lobby that did not know each other. This was the fourth alarm for one lady and the other had been here two or three years ago when it went off three times in one night. I will never stay here again. I would not suggest it to any one else.”

• The staff greeted me with a smile & help with my bags.
• Nothing. It was better than some 4 & 5 star hotels that I have stayed in.

“This Holiday Inn was in excellent condition. We checked in late but the hotel was alive with activity in the bar and lounge area. The hotel should update their online photos because the room I stayed in had updated bedding and looked much better than what was pictured. Since I visit Huntsville often, I will definitely use this Holiday Inn on my next visit.”

• It was under renovation, noisy, dirty, and uncomfortable.

“I was dissatisfied when I realized that the hotel was under renovation and that the floor I was staying on was filled with smoke and laying carpet. I went to the front desk to complain about the conditions of my room and to inquire about the safety of me and my child as they had place me at the end of a hall when most of the rooms were being renovated. The manager told me that they were unseasonably busy and were short on rooms. I dined at the breakfast buffet that was supposed to be open until 10am on Sunday but at 9:15 am there was barely any food. Customers were complaining, and we were told the kitchen was not going to put anymore food out because they were preparing for the Sunday Brunch. I was not happy at all.”

• Conveniently located downtown.
• Ok, but prosaic decor and courteous but not real friendly staff.

“The Holiday INN Select, Huntsville is conveniently located downtown. Rooms are clean and attractive and meet the 2.5 star levels. Some staff was courteous but not real friendly. I was disappointed by the lack of light blocking drapes and the sun woke me earlier than planned after getting in late. The hotel was adequate but not special.”

• Microwaves and fridges should be standard in rooms in hotels of this quality.
