• I thought the hotels renovation made it look like a 4 star hotel, lovely
• The neighborhood that this hotel is in is not safe.....would not venture outside parking lot

“I stayed at this hotel in Jan. 2009 with my son as we were driving across country to Georgia from California. I was very impressed with the inside (it was dark when we arrived). Could not believe it was a Holiday Inn. We've stayed at many Holiday Inns but this was tops. Granite counter tops in Lobby and a very nice bar and restaurant. The room was beautiful and also very impressed. Different pillows to choose from depending on firmness. Very comfortable beds and very quiet rooms. We had a wonderful nights sleep before getting on the road and finishing our journey. Loved it and definitely would recommend it. Great priceline price also!!”

• The Employees were very nice. I was allowed to check in at noon even though the check in time was 3pm.
• My room was location was overlooking the noisy air conditioners.

“Overall the hotel met my expectations. The free wireless and wired internet service was a real plus. The breakfast buffet menu could have been a little better. I am a pancake lover and there were none available. The rooms have been recently updated and decorated very nicely. I would definitely stay there again especially at the great Priceline rate I got.”

• Great hotel near airport.
• Sketchy neighborhood but hotel is well-secured.

“This was an unplanned, last minute stay. I was going to drive home 100 miles from the airport that night, but dense fog made driving unsafe. The hotel's just off the interstate at the airport exit. It's a short, fast ride to the airport (which is a very handy airport to fly in and out of by the way). I understand that the neighborhood is pretty unsafe, but the hotel is behind a big decorative (but spiky) fence and has good security. I have bad memories of run-down Holiday Inns from 10 or 20 years ago, but this feels more like a new Hilton. Very comfortable, nice rooms. Front desk staff was very friendly and seemed professionally trained (as opposed to hired off the street). I stayed at some hotel at this same location 20 years ago and it was bad. This might or might not be the same building, but it's totally different. It feels brand-new.”

• The hotel was very nice, and clean, and convenient to airport.
• Had a ant problem, but hotel staff moved quickly to rectify issue.

“My stay here was very nice. I loved it. Only issue was a small ant problem, in the bathroom, which staff moved quickly to rectify. And it is right next to the expressway, so you could definitely hear it on that side of the hotel. But far as convenience to the city, you're right there. All the staff was very friendly and courteous. Lobby and hallways were well lit and welcoming. Rooms where very fresh, Marble sink tops, extended shower rods, new everything. I would definitely recommend a stay here.”

“The hotel was very nice and clean. You could hear the traffic from the room. We were on the 6th floor. The surrounding area was not the best part of town. Very close to airport and the restaurant was very nice. The rooms were very clean and the decor was nice.”

• Very friendly at the desk. Joked with us,
• Left my cell phone charger in room, and left message, have not heard from them.

“Overall it was good. The workers at the desk when we checked in were friendly and smiling. They were also dressed in NASCAR attire which is why most of the people including me were there. This was really a cool thing to do. The only thing I didn't like is I left my phone charger in the room and when I got home(8 hours later) I called and the desk transfered me to house keeping. I had to leave message and have not had a call back.”

• The room was very attractive with a flat panel TV, very nice linens and above average furniture and decor.
• The WiFi was unavailable in my room.

“This remodeled hotel is less like a typical Holiday Inn and more like a lower end W hotel.”

• The decor of the room was nice.
• They did not make up my bed or clean the room on the first day.

“I really liked my room and the hotel staff that greeted me, however on the first day, housekeeping was horrible. I was told that they only had 1 person, which is not acceptable. They did not clean the room on the first day. They came a day after two calls were made to pick up old towels and to clean the room. I ate a buffet breakfast and my sausage was raw. There was another group (the omegas) and I believe they were just busy but they should staff accordingly to the number of guests expected. In spite of my experience, I wouldn't mind staying there again. The location was excellent for me.”

• Compensated for their error by giving food vouchers.
• Placed in room that wasn't cleaned and took longer than normal to get checked in. I was the only person checking in.

“Desk clerk seemed confused in regards to how to find rooms and then placed us in a room that had not been cleaned. However, upon discovering error, gave breakfast voucher. Overall, the facilities were very nice.”

• Staff was very friendly.
• Although we had our "Do Not Disturb" card out for quite a while (because we had no luggage), staff did not attempt to clean our room at all.

“Hotel was very convenient to the airport. Room was fine, but staff never cleaned room. We apparently had our "Do Not Disturb" sign out too long. However, they never asked us about cleaning it. (We had no luggage for a good part of our stay.).”

• None in this case. I was totally disappointed with my stay.
• The hotel is not what one expects for a 3-star hotel. It is old. The room was dirty and unacceptable.

“Although the hotel has a brand name franchise, it is an old full service hotel that has not been up kept. I don't have a problem with it being an aged hotel, but it has to be clean and inviting. My main problem is the room was dirty. Upon arrival, I had to take the hand towels to clean the surfaces in the bathroom and the room. The air conditioner was old and released an odor when running. The carpet was dirty - I walked barefooted in the room and when I stepped into the shower, the water showed how "black" my feet. I am totally disappointed with this hotel. It does not come close to being a 3 star rated hotel.”

“Good remodel job, room was nicely decorated, public spaces were nice. Staff was excellent. Location was fair at best because there were no restaurants or stores convenient to the hotel. It was easily accessible to downtown though. Pillows were terrible which hindered sleep, a hardship for a 4 night stay.”

• New fresh look. Very friendly staff, great bar and restaurant- price right.
• Limited parking late at night.

“There are not that many great hotels in Birmingham. I was quite surprised when we arrived as to the new look, very friendly staff. They did a great job in the remodel here. Once we sat down at the bar to relax, it was like heaven. We had a few drinks and then had a fairly good meal at the restaurant. We definitely will come back.”

• The toilet had to be flushed multiple times.

“This is a typical older Holiday Inn high rise. It has been recently remodeled so things like carpet, furniture etc. were in good shape and relatively clean. The windows are old, leaky and let more noise in than they should. The pool was closed due to major work being done but ought to be in nice condition when finished. All of the staff we encountered were friendly enough. Cleaning may not be as thorough as it should be - we found multiple items under/behind furniture that should have been discovered by the maids. It has easy access on and off of I20. Overall not too bad considering the age of the building.”

• Plumbing was a nightmare, view of filthy half-filled pool.

• No a location for walking to eat or entertainment.

“The hotel is located convenient to the airport and downtown area. The hotel is partially renovated. You can tell it is an older property that is being taken care of very well. The rooms have very nice beds and have an updated warm charm to them. The restaurant is clean and offers a nice range of choices. The bar and restaurant staff is very good. Need a car to get to shopping and entertainment.”

• Hotel was in middle of renovation. My room had an inappropriate, large, obstructing chair.

“The hotel was in a renovation/redecoration process. I am not confident in the quality of work being done, i.e., finishing of new wallpaper--the joints between walls and ceiling seemed unfinished. The mattresses need to be replaced or, at least turned. It was among the largest, heaviest mattresses I have seen in hotels, it was not in the worst shape I have seen, but it is getting there. The staff was very helpful, friendly and satisfactory.”

• Hotel was under renovation and neighborhood was somewhat sketchy.

“They told me the hotel was under renovation and that the rooms were done but the halls were not, they were correct. I didn't care about the walk to the room, just the room itself and they really did a great job on the room. I have stayed in some dumps and this room was very nice.”

• No refrigerator in the rooms. (Need to store medicines).

“Excellent hotel for the Business and Leisure Traveler Even though they were in the midst of rehabilitation of the physical premises, the staff kept the customer areas clean, and they were very attentive to my every need. I had breakfast the following morning and their buffet was the best deal for the money I had enjoyed in a few years.”
