- Beds were ok.
- Was a lot of waiting and was not prepared for all the hairdressers. Kept running out of breakfast items.
“Very bad. Went for a hair show booked with them because I was assured of shuttle to and from the hair show. When we got there we had to wait over an hour for our room. Then we were told we could not do the shuttle because of the hair show. I told them that is why I booked with them, for the shuttle. I did not know where a lot of things were in the area and how to get back and forth. I was told it was only a half a mile we could walk. I was not walking at night! The valet was a long wait and they could not find a car which pushed us behind. I think they should give us a discount for all the trouble. Never again will I stay there.”

- I love the historic significance and decor of the hotel.
- My room was far less exciting than the last time I stayed there; they let the place kind of go.

- The room that we stayed in was so spacious and big.
- No microwave or refrigerator.
“It was a very pleasant experience for my husband, children and me. We did not expect to have our children with us, but due to unforeseen events we did. The hotel accommodated our needs to double beds and the room was the largest we have ever been in. It was perfect for all 6 of us (children ages 5mo.-10). Free parking on curb was a bonus, too. Only 3 blocks from civic center.”

- Ummm. I could watch GAC on cable.
- The carpet needed cleaning, there was no ice machine, 16.00 per day for valet parking and no other choice! This made me a bit angry.
“Smelled musty, no ice machine, very few conveniences. glasses in room not replaced after we used them. I would not stay there again under any circumstance. Valet parking was outrageous at 16.00 per day with no other choice. Not what I had hoped for. Very disappointed.”

“"wow this hotel ........!" that is a quote from my oldest son (8) and also my wife. We check in, did not go to our room, went and got something to eat and shop. Then we went to our room. We were in our room for may be 15 minutes while I got hotel reservations on my cell phone. We left and went to a nicer, better hotel.”

- Very quiet! Nice staff, very helpful. Some of the best staff I have ever experienced anywhere in the country.
- Accidentally left my cell phone charger in the room when we left. They have made no effort to get it to me.

- Large room, friendly staff, good location for business, but not leisure.
- Parking was an additional amount.
“The hotel was very charming with large rooms and an ideal location for business, however, at night, downtown shuts down, and when we ventured out to find dining locations, the exits we took were not in a good part of town and dining was non-existent. The staff had directed us to a restaurant down the street from the hotel, but when we got there, they were closing their doors at 9 pm. There was no close by shopping, eating or entertainment, just simply a good place to sleep and leave, and the reader needs to be informed there is a heavy parking charge, so when you factor in parking, this was not a good money deal.”

“Absolutely Horrid. Billed as a "historic" hotel, in actuality it is just old and decrepit The common areas are nice; but the rooms are barely adequate: windows painted closed, "marble" bathrooms are Home Depot tile (poorly installed at that!), there is a surcharge for Internet access, $20 valet parking with NO OPTIONS, basic cont. breakfast, very small rooms unless you opt for an executive suite at three times the cost.”

- No nearby restaurants or other facilities on weekends.
“This is an excellent value for a business traveler in downtown Birmingham. However, Birmingham is not yet revitalized and pretty much shuts down on the weekends. If you are traveling on the weekend to attend an event it is fine, otherwise I would choose a different location. The lounge is open until 12:00, but shuts down by 10:00 on weekends because it is so slow. The rooms are small - typical city rooms. The linens need to be upgraded - they are more in line with a Holiday Inn. The access to the Y is greater - except their hours are very limited on weekends.”

- It was very nice and clean .It was built in the early 1900 they had very nice clean rooms. I would recommend it to anyone tnx for your help with find it.
- Not in the best part of town but we felt safe there.

- It's downtown.
- This total `heads a bad A/C unit with loud noise. The rooms was not clean and had a bad smell.
“I was not please with my stay, I had to change rooms three time because of a bad A/C unit and a smelled room. It just didn't live up to my expectation as a three star hotel I could in find the name of the place because it stated Tutwiler and not Wyndham. I strongly disagree with this place. Also I'm requesting A full refund of my money back.”

- It did have some charm of older southern hotels and the surrounding area was very nice. Parks and library.
- It was very dated. The rooms could be very charming if updated, but the carpet was dirty and the bathrooms not updated.
“Tutwiler did not meet the expectations I had. I have stayed in some great older hotels that have been nicely updated but this one was not one. The exterior windows had not been painted for decades. The rooms are large, but have decor circa 1960's. Could have been a lot worse though for $50. That was the good news.”

- I enjoyed the nice staff and the historicity of the building.
- The furnishings were a little old, mattress was uncomfortable.

The staff is very cordial and makes you feel you are well taken care of and are an important person. However, the furniture is a little outdated and the mattresses are quite unsupportive. - The staff was informative, and I liked the lobby area.
- Room was no nicer than above-average chain hotel, stains on carpet, long delay in valet car service.
“The outside and lobby areas of the hotel were lovely. In addition, the staff was helpful and informative. Our room, however, could not be considered a luxury room. There was little art or decorative appeal, and there were stains on the carpet. In addition, housekeeping neglected to put out new soaps and shampoos on our second day. Finally, the valet parking - for which we paid $16/day - was slow due to the fact that the cars were parked off-site. Although the delay was not the fault of the attendants, it was unexpected due to the charge. Although we enjoyed our stay in Birmingham, I would have been disappointed if we had paid more than the price.”

- The room was very large, the bed was ultra comfy and big.
- The blinds in the bathroom were bent and you could see in them, and the door got jammed twice when we were leaving.
“We celebrated our 7th year anniversary at this hotel and it was perfect. The room was large and clean and the bed was absolutely to die for. The staff was very helpful and the location was good for the sites we took in. Our hotels neighbors were a little noisy, but overall it was a perfect stay.”

- The appearance of the hotel lobby was nice.
- The rooms were worn. Needs remodeling.

- The man in the kitchen at 5:45 am was quick and happy to please us by providing a couple of bowls and spoons for me!
- I wish that they had had an urn of coffee in the lobby for the marathon crowd that was gathered at 6:00am. Unusual, but a special day for so many of.

- Parking is expensive - valet is of 16$. But you can park on the street after 6 pm for free.

- The historical value of the hotel I could appreciate.
- The walls appeared damp and dirty, while the shower curtains had mildew.
“It was a nice stay. However, I expected something far better from a "3 star" hotel which has such history as the Tutwiler. The location was nice; being near the Birmingham Library, Imax Theatre, and the Civil War Memorial.”

- The staff was very helpful and courteous.
- The carpet was stained and the bedspreads were worn.
“The Tukwila's staff were wonderful. The meal that we had was delicious. However, the rooms were less than I had imagined. The initial bed covering, I had them change it out had a large cigarette burn and nutshells on it. The television was small.”

“Nice location but had to change rooms twice, first room had bath room tiles falling off walls and bad wall paper peeling off walls, next room bath room had bad dirty tub and blinds would not close in bath room. ”

- Beautiful building.
- So many things went wrong!
“We stayed one night, and in that time we had two light bulbs blow out, and could not get down the elevator with our luggage cart because it was out of service. The valet parking was $16 + tips, and our car was then parked about 6 whole feet from where we pulled in the night before. The only other parking option was a meter that we would've had to wake up to re-fill every two hours all night. The breakfast, which consisted of 1 muffin, 1 oatmeal, 2 bowls of cold cereal and 4 glasses of orange juice cost more than the hotel room did. Ridiculous!”

- The location was close to the hospital. The room was spacious.
- The beds and pillows were uncomfortable. Valet parking is pricey and the only option.
“The Theiler's is a very elegant hotel with large rooms and elegant decor. The location is wonderful if you are needing to be close to downtown. The staff was friendly and helpful.”

- Furnishings looked outdated and old.
