“This was a stopover on our way to Chicago - would never recommend this place to anyone! It looked fine from the outside - inside was ok. The room was not good. The bathroom was dirty and the towels were thin and scratchy. The bed was awful! Did not sleep through the night the bed was so bad. It sagged in the middle and did not look or feel clean. The bedspread was dirty and I took it off the bed immediately - the whole experience at this hotel as much less than satisfactory!”

• I very much appreciated the kitchen in my room.
• The towels were entirely too small to be called bath towels.

“The extended stay America Merrillville provided a comfortable room at a reasonable price. I appreciated that the room had a kitchen in it as it came in very handy to save even more money by eating right in the room and not having to go out to a restaurant.”

• Didn't find ice machine, just ice trays in refrigerator.

“This is a good hotel if you just need a place to stay but don't need anything fancy. For a very good price you get a clean hotel room with kitchen. It was also quiet which is important to me when I stay at a hotel.”

• It had a kitchen and it was clean.
• There was 4 of us and only one bed. I asked for 2 beds.

“It was nice for the most part, except the bed situation. I put down there were 2 adults and 2 kids, but we only had one bed. That was not good.”

“This was the worst hotel I have ever stayed at. From the twin beds to the dirty sheets, I have found none worse. I would never ever stay at another Extended Stay America, not even for free. Stay away at all costs!”

“Hotel was clean and convenient to local restaurants. Kitchenette would be a great money saver if planning on staying for long periods of time. Only complaint would have to be twin beds in a dbl room.”

• Full kitchen is good if multiple night stays are needed.

“I needed a room for one night near Chicago. Price was right but I would not recommend for families as many of the rooms were long term units for workers in the area that had to get up early. It was acceptable for a economy overnight stay.”

“Plenty of room for conducting work and for cooking dinner. Usually when traveling on business I eat fast food or overpriced restaurants. Extended stay kitchenette was great and a much healthier alternative. The location was great.”

• One king size bed. It did not have the two green/full beds as promised by you.

“The hotel and staff was nice. It was written that all hotels would have two beds but this one only had one king which was very firm and hurt my back.”

• The receptionist was very friendly and competent.
• Needs some paint like on elevator doors, and floors need more careful attention. Dirt in corners.

“Location is great and accommodations are adequate in terms of comfort and convenience. It is an older facility and needs some sprucing up, but it was acceptable, and I would stay there again.”

• I loved the location and the fridge and ability to make meals in my room if wanted.
• The room was dirty on the bathroom counters and the microwave was disgusting and had not been cleaned in a long time.

“For the price this was a great room. The location was excellent as there is everything you need or want within a short distance from the hotel. The microwave had not been cleaned and was filthy inside. The bathroom counters were dirty with hair on them still. The bed was comfortable and the recliner was nice to sit in and watch TV. Not many channels on the TV, but enough to find something to watch, plus movie channels. Overall a decent place to stay. I paid lass than half of their normal room rates for this room. Much nicer than most of the other places I could have stayed.”

• I liked that the room had a kitchen with a fridge and microwave.
• The front desk staff was hard to find and I had to wait a while to check in and ask questions.

“The hotel needed more staff- or at least staff that stayed at the front desk. When I called the hotel to get specific directions, no body answered the phone. I held on the line for up to five minutes and still no one answered the phone. The beds were hard. There was not a full length mirror in the room. The front desk staff called my room to wake me (without request) on my check out morning 30 minutes prior to check out. I felt that this was inappropriate.”

• I liked the refrigerator and microwave being in the room.
• The bed was too small and very uncomfortable.

“I would never choose to stay at this hotel as they do not have rooms with two double beds. The one bed was an uncomfortable, full size bed. When traveling with another adult this did not meet our needs. The hallways were very warm and smoky. The check-in staff could not have been more unfriendly. The check-out staff came out moaning about a sore back. The location was very convenient. The parking lot was too small for the hotel.”

“There is no daily maid service here, although you are given a studio with stove and refrigerator, which is handy. There also is a community laundry room. I didn't like the TV selection, which had Showtime, and not HBO. During frequent storms, the satellite TV was out on many channels. Many restaurants are nearby, as is shopping.”

• I loved the quiet and privacy. No noise or loitering around halls.
• It was not family friendly we traveled with children no room or options for children in the room with parents.

“It was a nice place to stay for two adults. Kitchenette was perfect for the days we stayed; it saved us a fortune on dining out. Not a good place for family unless old enough for separate rooms.”

• No breakfast, no newspaper (even limited copies at the front desk for first-come, first-serve basis).

“Good and quiet. Lacked some of the main amenities, i.e. internet connection, courtesy personal computer for public access to the internet, ice machine, shampoo, courtesy toiletry articles provided at the front desk, if needed.”

• Clean - the cleanest facility I have been in in a long time.
• This hotel only allows 2 people in a room. No good for a family of 4.

“Upon checking in, we were told that they do not offer rooms to accommodate more than 2 people. The do not offer connecting rooms, so we couldn't even get a second room for our family of 4. The staff was great and gave us extra blankets and pillows, but the kids had to stay on the floor. They also warned us to only come down in 2's or hotel management would ask us to vacate our room. The room was very clean and the kitchen area was great. We had a non smoking room, but it smelled so much of smoke that I had to have our luggage cleaned after staying only one night.”

• It's nice having a refrigerator to keep snacks and drinks.
• We didn't like the fact that the fitted sheet wouldn't stay on the bed. It was very annoying. They didn't want to give us extra coffee.

• Laundry facility was great.
• Austere lobby.

“We stayed here because my daughter was in a softball tournament for the weekend. We did not need the first night that I had reserved, but of course I knew I would not get a refund (that's the down side). Check in went well, we were on the main floor, as requested, adjacent to the laundry, convenient since I was washing team uniforms, clean, new and easily accessible. Had to ask for an alarm clock, they have no wake up service, but everything else was satisfactory.”
