• Price and location.
• A copy of the Chicago Tribune would have been nice.

“They even provided a free breakfast. I've stayed at this hotel in the past and that was not previously included. Also appreciated free parking. Also like the fact they have implemented a quiet room policy.”

• It was a beautiful building. It had a great pool. The rooms were clean and nice.

• Good location, easy to find. Pretty public areas. Extra perk, ie: breakfast buffet, ice water in lobby, huge selection on cable, comfy beds.
• Evening check in staff was not too friendly but they were busy. Sofa sleepers were not that comfortable.

“I expected a little more out of a Marriott. This was okay. The public areas were pretty but the rooms were so-so. The evening staff at check-in was not as friendly as most places. The breakfast buffet was an unexpected pleasant surprise. The main beds were comfy but the pullouts were not as in often the case. Good place for families. I would stay at this hotel again but would rate it more as a 2 1/2 star.”

• The entry road was severely pot holed.

“Hotel was very nice. The room that was first assigned was tiny, queen bed, near the highway, but when I called and stated that I requested, they happily upgraded us to a bigger room.”

• Great pillows.
• Toilet did not work properly and they did not fix it or offer another room.

“Relatively clean, great breakfast bar, nice hot tub, indoor pool was cold, staff was friendly though not wonderfully helpful when there was an issue with the toilet in the room not flushing properly.”

• I like the lobby area where we play games and card games. I appreciated they accommodated us by giving us a room with 2 beds and on the first floor.
• Nothing. It is all good.

“It has been said with all the 10's I gave the hotel and staff. This has been our 4th year at the Merrillville Courtyard Marriott. We will keep staying there as long as we can. We meet our family members from near O'Hare, there and go to the Elvis Birthday Tribute.”

• Additional features (pool, basketball court, lagoon/waterfall, continental breakfast).
• It was very crowded the weekend nights we were there, too many kids at pool and breakfast.

“Overall, a pretty good experience. The interior finishing is a little out of date but maintained well. The Thursday night we were there was great, but the hotel was overcrowded on the Friday and Saturday night making the pool and continental breakfast unusable (there must have been some kids sporting event in town). The rooms were nice, with a full sized bed, a pull out couch, and a business desk (this room would not work well for people wanting to sleep in separate beds).”

• The breakfast was terrific.
• The pool/hot tub were not open and the reason given was questionable.

“When we checked in, the girl at the desk told us that the pool and hot tub were down because of inclement weather, lightening in particular. The pool was indoor/outdoor and the hot tub was indoors. The skies were cloudy when we arrived but it wasn't even raining. She said it would open at 8 AM. We were disappointed but knew we could wait till morning. In the morning the man at the desk told us that the pools in many hotels in the area were shut down and the pool would be open sometime soon but not at 8 AM. But, he said that we could use the pool at a nearby hotel. We drove there and theirs was shut down also. The man there told us that the health lady had shut down some pools because of testing numbers being down. They told us to go to the Radisson nearby (they called to check). We drove there and as we were getting in the pool, the man at the pool told us theirs was down also. We didn't appreciate the girl the evening before making up a story apparently and we thought they could have tried a little harder to get the pools open early for their guests. We checked out early.”

• Towels were rough and pillowcases were smelly!

“We had a good stay with the exception of the following: The fire alarm went off in the middle of the night and the staff could not turn it off for 2 hours! I am also a fanatic about clean linens, and although fresh pillowcases were brought to us, they were smelly (like oily hair) and the towels are very harsh (feel like you are drying with a loofah). Assigned a room on the 2nd floor with access only by stairs (no elevators). My 90 year-old mother-in-law had to stay in the lobby when she visited, because she could not climb the stairs.”

• The road entrance to hotel is in bad shape and needs resurfacing.

• The surroundings.
• Saw ants in bathroom. Mud on ceiling coming off. Beds were very hard. Floor in bath dirty and desk was dusty.

• We always enjoy staying at Courtyards. This one was very well kept.
• The hotel did not have an elevator. It was hard to get all luggages to 2nd floor.

“It was a nice stay for the type of travel we were doing for the weekend. We had teenagers with us and missed the close time at the pool because of a late arrival. I think all hotels should have a later closing time at the pools.”

“I called twice to let the staff know that I would be very late and that it was imperative that I had a crib set up, as I was traveling with a sick child. I got to the hotel, the key did not work in my room and there was no crib in the room. Needless to say it was a terrible experience.”

• I really enjoyed the breakfast buffet. There was wide variety of wonderful choices.
• I didn't like the road access to the hotel. There was an event at the Star Plaza which made it very difficult to get to the hotel.

“It was a wonderful hotel. We had a great experience. I would definitely recommend it to anyone traveling to Merrillville, IN. to visit the Star Plaza.”

• King-bedded rooms are not available.

“An excellent, well-maintained hotel. A breakfast with juice, cereals coffee/tea, hot buffet with scrambled eggs, sausage, potatoes, & corned beef hash is available free daily. We had a queen bed room with a couch. Window in room overlooked a wooded area. Great bed. Bathroom was very clean.”

• Everything-we had stayed there a year ago and knew what to expect. They all went overboard for us.

“The remodeling at the hotel was very well done. The breakfast each day was wonderful and free with the room now. We had to pay for it a year ago. The staff is excellent, very friendly, helpful, and right on top of things. Stay the same don't change!”

• The hotel was set off of us30 for a little privacy.
• Leaving the hotel for dinner I was fed through the star plaza's parking for an event.

“Nice normal hotel rooms. I liked the privacy of being tucked off of us 30. The room and lobby seemed very clean. Lobby had a computer if you need it.”

• Perfect room for a family and had right amount of space.
• A little outdated but they are renovating it right now.

“I was very pleased with my hotel room. We had the King bed with the loveseat which turns into a bed. It was the perfect size for my family. The staff was very helpful, brought me a portable crib for me and I cannot say anything bad about my experience. The room was clean, pool great. I didn't try the breakfast but I would definitely stay here again with my family.”

• Indoor/outdoor pool option is nice, although I didn't stay at a time when the outdoor pool was open.
