• Price and location.
• Checking in they don't tell you everything.

“When I checked in with my wife they said all they had was a room with 2 double beds but for another 50 bucks. I could upgrade to a room with a king size beds. I told them no thanks and then asked if the hotel was full. The girl said the hotel was completely sold out. This made no sense after trying to upgrade me for the right price.”

• Great location with wonderful views of downtown and Lake Michigan.
• Elevator service was very slow especially at check-out time.

“Overall this is an excellent hotel. The hotel lobby is warm and inviting and decorated in a modern mix of jazzy carpet, dark woods and elegant marble tile. The staff was friendly and helpful. Our room was a double queen size bed room, and the bathroom had a tub and separate shower. The beds were comfortable and had lots of extra pillows. Everything was extremely clean and in new condition.”

“ There was no valet attendant, I waited in my car for 5 minutes then left my car at the front door to find someone and there was no one working at the check-in area or concierge. I had to wait another 5 minutes for someone to show up at the desk! I came out in the morning and my car was still in the same spot but I was charged 75.00 for valet parking. Not great service for a 4 star hotel.

• The location of this hotel was excellent.
• The front desk staff and a couple of the concierge staff, could be a bit more friendly. Guest remembers excellent customer service.

“This hotel is in a great location to all the sites and shopping. Really don't care to pay a fee per day per guest for the health club. Service at front desk could be improved.”

• View from the room, concierge, front-desk staff.
• The Palm, on-site, poor service, mediocre food at best - not what I expect for $70 a plate.

“The Sofitel is wonderfully situated, just east of the Mag. Mile and north of Millennium Park - great for walking. Unfortunately, the parking is outrageous we chose to park at Millennium Park, which is rather expensive, but was still nearly half the price of Sofitel. The restaurant was overpriced based on the poor service and food quality. Interior was well appointed, but certainly not luxury. Bathroom is nothing special.”

• Breathtaking view of the lake & river from our room.
• Overnight parking fee of $52.

“We celebrated our anniversary, & the hotel upgraded our room to a corner room with lakeview
and river view! Shortly after settling in, we were greeted at our door with champagne & chocolate-covered strawberries! Would highly recommend this hotel to anyone!”

“Everything was wonderful. The room was beautiful and the bed was very very comfortable. The staff was amazing with my two-year old. Great place to spend the evening. Food prices at the hotel were very expensive but there were other options within walking distance.”

• The hotel charged extra for everything (parking, internet, snacks, tea).

“Spacious rooms and good location and I recommend this hotel. Be prepared though - they charge extra for everything. Parking is $52 a night! Internet is $10 a day. $26 for breakfast.”

• They charged extra for health club, even for a room upgrade when they didn't have the reserved room on time.

“The room was nice, but it's unbecoming of a 4-star hotel to charge extra for health club and for an upgrade which was necessary when they didn't have the reserved room ready on time.”

• Everything was extra! I had a package delivered - extra. Wi-Fi - extra.

“Beautiful location and property. $49 a day for parking a car
and add another $10 a day for Wi-Fi access. I will stay elsewhere next trip, but it is a beautiful property.”

• The bed was really comfortable and had nice pillows.
• The shower was designed so that water poured onto the tiled bathroom floor.

“My room was nice and spacious. The bed was very comfortable. My only complaint is the shower was poorly designed, so that no mater what angle I put the shower-head, water leaked onto the floor, which is slightly dangerous on a tile floor. There was also a strange noise that followed the flushing of our toilet and those in the surrounding rooms. I thought it was a fire alarm at first, but it stopped after a minute or two. Needless to say, not what I wanted to wake up to in the middle of the night.”

• The room was very clean and the beds were comfy.
• The parking is expensive and the lobby was a mess.

“When we got to the hotel apparently there was some sort of a leak in the lobby, so it was roped off and there were huge dryers everywhere. Also, it was Valentine's Day and my mom had called to have champagne and strawberry's sent to my fiancé and I. She had to call three times and I finally called twice before they were delivered. The parking is really expensive. If you have a hybrid, drive it there because you get half off.”

• The parking was $49 a night!

“We just went here for a weekend get a way. My only complaint was the parking was way too much money. I think the parking prices should be cut in half. Otherwise it is a beautiful hotel with nice roomy clean rooms.”

• Soft beds, fabulous bedding and towels, everything was like brand new. Loved the shower stall. The staff was very nice and helpful, well trained.
• The restaurant was far too expensive for us.

“As you enter the hotel and are greeted by a staff member (who, even if vacuuming, turns off the vacuum to greet you, Wow). There is a small table with two glass urns filled with water, ice and fruit. Lovely, refreshing drink. The check in staff is friendly and patient which is a big thing for older people like me who tend to take some time looking for documents. Our room was so nice and clean, the furniture was elegant, the television was big and the view was magnificent. The motel was convenient to walking all over the loop and the Navy Pier.”

• Location.

“The hotel was very nice. It was a great location and the staff was very helpful when we had questions. It is very expensive to eat at the hotel. It seemed like there was a fee for everything. I wouldn't recommend this hotel if you have a family. You cannot even use the pool unless you buy a pass for the health club.”

• Location - close to the magnificent mile and the loop, no street noises, great view of the lake.
• I wish it had an airport transport.

“The hotel is on the river, close to navy pier with great views of the lake. The rooms were spacious and had a comfortable bed and good linens. We could walk to the parks - Millennium and Grant, the Loop and the Magnificent Mile. The subway and buses were a few blocks away and the river terminus for the architectural tour was practically out the front door. Especially liked the fact that there was very little traffic - no sirens and blessed quiet in the evening.”

• The bed linens were soft and comfortable and the separate tub and shower were a nice feature.
• The Geneva restaurant was on the pricey side for breakfast considering the food we ate.

• The lobby is somewhat seedy looking.

“Be careful with extras, they tried to charge us for mini bar items that were not used. The rooms are fairly basic. There is nothing about the ambiance of common areas or the rooms that will make you feel special.”

• The hotel was luxurious in every way. Every employee was acted professionally, friendly and very sophisticated.
• It was perfect.

“The Swissotel is luxurious. The rooms are very spacious and beautifully decorated. Every square inch is immaculate. The hotel employees are amazing. They are very eager to please and very pleasant people. The location on the Chicago River was spectacular.”

• Staff exceptionally friendly and helpful. Beautiful view from room & extra clean. The Palm Restaurant, great food, reasonably priced for Chicago.
• There was nothing not to like.

“The employees at the front desk were most courteous and helpful. I didn't have to look like I had lots of money to get first rate service. Clean rooms and a great view of Lake Michigan from our room. I highly recommend this hotel to everyone. Put your walking shoes on because you are not too far from great restaurants, Navy Pier, Michigan Avenue and Millennium Park.”

• I have absolutely no complaints.

“This is a four star hotel with a small hotel feel. The staff is extremely helpful, the facilities at the hotel first rate (including a truly excellent restaurant on the premises), and the rooms are large and well appointed. This is a great find. I will make every effort to stay there when I'm in Chicago again.”

• Highly priced parking; I chose to park in a self-park garage nearby.

“An overall excellent experience at the Swiss Hotel. I would highly recommend it to anyone expecting 4-Star qualities. I was in Chicago for business and did not have an opportunity to experience services/facilities within the hotel, however, everything from the professional check in/out service to the clean, comfortable, well-appointed over-sized rooms that included a large Flat-Screen TV, separate shower and bath, and amazing view was very much welcomed. Location was great-just off Michigan Avenue separating the Loop from North Michigan Avenue, with excellent dining, shopping and attractions all around.”

• I liked the location, the appearance, the staff & comfort.
• I observed the maid making the bed with the bed pillows on the floor. Not only unhygienic, people with allergies suffer from treated carpets.

“The location and approach were convenient and appealing. The room was lovely in appearance and we had a wonderful view. The staff was friendly and helpful. There was the maid who threw the bed pillows on the floor while she made the beds which I found objectionable. Otherwise, I would recommend this hotel.”

• Cramped lobby and common areas.

“Room spacious, great view of Navy Pier. Very nice bathroom with separate shower and tub--a plus! A fee to use the cardio/weight equipment of $15 a day. The facilities offered, nothing special. The pool was fine, indoors was on the 42nd floor. We were allowed late check out to 5 pm and the front desk seemed willing to accommodate us. Main lobby is very cramped. It seemed like a 3 star, not a 4 overall.”

• Wonderful! We were able to walk to everything. Great views.
• I drank too much after the show and had a bad hangover.

“We love the hotel. Great views from every room, the park, the river or the lake. We would love to stay again. Great service, Walk to anything we wanted. Went to the Jerry Springer show, the studio was a five minute walk. Great friendly staff, clean rooms perfect. Thank you.”
