“The Hotel Allegro is located near the heart of downtown Chicago's theater district at the corner of Randolph and Wells. The train station was a convenient block and a half south on Wells. Millennium Park was a short 7 or 8 block walk east. The self park ramp was across Wells to the west, less than a block. Our room was not large, but there was a good sized closet and an armoire that contained a refrigerator, safe and 2 medium-sized drawers. Our family, including daughters ages 9 and 6, never felt cramped. The room was very quiet. Lollapalooza was taking place the weekend of our stay and the hotel was filled with many young people who were inclined to stay up (or pass out) much later than us. But once our door closed we no longer heard sounds from the hallway. Each evening we enjoyed a free wine happy hour from 5-6. The lobby was large and very comfortable. Plush chairs and couches were dispersed throughout 4 separate lobby areas, one of which was quite intimate. I would definitely recommend the Hotel Allegro for single travelers or young couples who need a hotel primarily for sleeping and showering - for those who plan to spend most of their time away from the hotel. I don't think I would recommend it for families with young children who tend to need more activities to occupy their time.” Aug 4, 2008 by

“Great location and friendly staff. Spacious and very comfortable. Not much of a view but the decoration is very upscale.” Aug 4, 2008 by
Corrine from Chicago, IL
“This hotel had very friendly staff and beautiful rooms and bathrooms. Everything was clean and pleasant. I had two complaints: The first is the bed size. I am only 5'5" and the bed just barely fit my body. My boyfriend's feet were hanging over the edge of the bed. Also, the walls are paper thin and we woke up every time someone opened a door or even talked. It was very noisy and made for an uncomfortable sleep.” Aug 1, 2008 by
Michael G. from Mount Juliet, TN
“Was very pleased with the hotel. People were very nice. Wine every night at 5 to 6 PM. Did not have coffee in the morning, but there were several coffee shops within easy walking distance. The art deco architecture makes it a favorite for artist, though it was not as accessible for the business man or family.” Jul 30, 2008 by
Kerry from Madison, WI
“I was on business but brought my family along, including 2 year old son. They had no trouble walking to attractions. The hotel is in a Business District so it is very quiet on weekends, empty on Sunday. There were plenty of family friendly restaurants in walking distance and I was very happy with our experience here. The room was plenty big (king room) for us.” Jul 29, 2008 by
Jill from Random Lake, WI
“If the room would have been larger it would have been a perfect place to stay.” Jul 24, 2008 by
Sarah from Alton, IL
“A very nice boutique hotel. Friendly and helpful staff. Walking distance from Union Station. Small rooms, but very comfortable. It is a pet-friendly hotel. It was quite nice to come down to the lobby in the morning and see everyone with their dogs. The hotel seems to draw an interesting mix of people and had some great conversations with a myriad of guests. I wasn't there to catch a show, but is a great place to be if you are visiting for the theater district. Plan on staying again.” Jul 19, 2008 by
Verda from Kokomo, IN
“The hotel was great.” Jul 19, 2008 by
Kim from Ottawa, KS
“The rooms as so small in this hotel! We could not use the desk and walk through the room at the same time. So, if one of us was on the laptop, they had to get up, push the chair in and stand aside so someone else couple walk through. None of the housekeeping staff speak much English, so when asking for a fan, we received 2 pens! The hotel is beautiful, but there is not many extras. Within walking distance to many attractions. Overall, would not stay there again.” Jul 19, 2008 by
Cindy from Mt Pleasant, SC
“This hotel is nice, clean and in a great location. The staff is helpful and nice. The rooms are nice and the beds are extremely comfy. The only drawback is the size of the room. They are very small. It reminds me of a European type room. Great for two people but pushing it for any more.” Jul 16, 2008 by
Dan from Midlothian, IL
“We had a room near the elevator lobby. It was very loud in the evening because the floor we were on had a party in the room. Then in the morning we were woken up by the hotel's housekeeping staff that were vacuuming the corridor and banging the housekeeping carts in the storage room which was next to our room. I would have called the desk and requested a different room, but we didn't want to get up in the morning and switch rooms. We just left. I would not like to go back to this hotel again.” Jul 12, 2008 by
Todd N. from Cuyahoga Falls, OH
“Hotel was very nice overall, great location for walking around Chicago. Valet was very helpful when I arrived late at night with my two children (8 and 6). Desk clerk helped me quickly but could see that the 2 kids were with me. Other hotels we had been to that trip had nice little gifts and milk and cookies for the kids, stuff like that. Rooms are small. Nicely decorated but way to small for 3. We were there 3 days and it was difficult to keep all our luggage and us in the room with out tripping on something. I wouldn't mind staying again as a romantic weekend or something. No pool either.” Jul 11, 2008 by
Carolyn from Mason, OH
“Great location, friendly staff.” Jul 10, 2008 by
Steven from Springfield, IL
“From the moment we walked in, it was amazing. We got severed right when we walked in. While they were checking us in the staff was very friendly and helpful giving us ideas as to what to look for while in Chicago. They recommended so many good shops and restaurants. The room was amazing. Turning on the nice big flat screen TV, I was my name on there, saying welcome to Hotel Allegro. Very cool. I would love to stay there again when I go to Chicago. The best part about my stay is that we were suppose to check out at noon but our train didn't leave until 7pm. So, the hotel said that they would hold our luggage until we needed to leave. I found very awesome. Thank you so much and Hotel Allegro for the best time ever. Looking forward to doing more business here with you.” Jul 3, 2008 by
Renee from Nashville, TN
“The hotel was perfect for our needs. Location was fabulous and the atmosphere at the hotel was very nice. The rooms reminded me of European rooms, small, but very nice.” Jul 3, 2008 by
Chris from Westfield, IN
“Great location, fun decor, friendly staff, pet friendly.” Jul 3, 2008 by
J. from Springfield, IL
“Very nice location and friendly staff. Elevators are sometimes very slow and there is no vending area on the property. You have to leave the hotel just to buy a soda. The bathroom doors are closet-style doors and they are tough to open: I was afraid that one was locked and if I pulled too hard I would break it. This was not the case, but considering hotels will try to charge you for anything, you are always nervous about not breaking things. Other than that, I was very satisfied with my stay.” Jun 30, 2008 by
David from Hudson, IA
“From the moment I arrived at the hotel I knew I was going to be taken care of. The curbside service was very friendly and welcoming. The newly remodeled hotel. I am a family of five and the kids enjoyed it as much as we did. Very nice hotel stay!” Jun 29, 2008 by
Steven from Nappanee, IN

“The location is great, close to public transportation for sight seeing. The decor is like no other hotel I've seen (different but nice ). The rooms are small with tiny bathrooms.” May 28, 2008 by

“Would recommend to fellow business travelers.” May 23, 2008 by
Steven from Estero, FL
“On arrival at 12:30 a.m., I was told that my room was unavailable as the hotel was overbooked. I was shipped off to another hotel (I had to ask for cab fare) and had to check in that night at the new hotel. The new one could not accommodate the remainder of my stay, so I had to check out of the substitute hotel the next day, and re check into the Allegro. This took 3 unnecessary cab rides to accomplish, as well as time I did not have. This whole mess cost me money as well as precious time from my family and activities planned for my son's graduation. Overall, an experience that was just a mess and a hassle, to be avoided in the future.” May 20, 2008 by
Jude from Champaign, IL
“Located in the heart of the Chicago theatre district, the Allegro is a jazzy oasis.” May 8, 2008 by
Cheryl from Mahtomedi, MN
“Would definitely stay at the Allegro again. Great value. Great location. Friendly staff.” May 7, 2008 by

“Great staff and location.” May 3, 2008 by
Charlie from Anniston, AL
“This is a great Hotel, close to everything. The friendly staff really make you feel welcome and valued. The hotel has just been completely renovated, and rivals anything you would find in Hollywood. Beautiful rooms with large flat screen TV's. Very trendy and modern. Free wine reception in the lobby every night is very nice too. All the theaters are walking distance, as well as the Sears Tower. Great pizza place right around the corner, and cool local bars abound. Would stay there anytime!” May 2, 2008 by
Elizabeth from Rowlett, TX
“Clean, moderate, chic. Beds were very comfortable. Missed having a coffee pot in room. Excellent location in Downtown Chicago.” Apr 28, 2008 by
Ann from Kalamazoo, MI
“Great Chicago loop location; very small rooms, trendy dcor.” Apr 23, 2008 by
Stan from South Bend, IN
“This hotel has no wine bar, coffee is limited to 1 cup per person in the morning which is handed out by surly staff, it is under construction with debris in the hallways. The room was tiny and the bathroom was even smaller. The bathroom would only allow 1 person to be in it as the floor space for standing was literally 2 ft by 2 feet. It was much too cramped to be comfortable in the room. There was only 1 uncomfortable chair for a 2 person room. The LCD TV was very poor quality, every channel was grainy, channel selection was very limited. Coffee in the morning was free only for 2 or 3 hours in the morning but guests had to go to the lobby, show a room card, and then were told they could only have 1 12 ounce cup for each guest. When my wife went down to get coffee the second morning we were there, the surly counter attendant accused her to her face of coming earlier that day already, she had not! The parking pass system was cumbersome and inconvenient. The only good thing about the hotel was that the location was excellent, in the Theater District. All in all, I will never ever stay at this hotel again, nor at any of the other hotels in this chain. I honestly would rate it at 1-star. The fault, however, of the poor quality despite the high star rating appears to be the hotel's.” Apr 23, 2008 by
Ed from Dubuque, IA
“The Allegro has done a nice job with the remodel and we enjoyed our stay. Staff was very friendly and made sure we were pleased.” Apr 18, 2008 by
Rick from Logansport, IN
“Nice location, friendly staff, parking located right across the street.” Apr 16, 2008 by
Steve from Miamisburg, OH
“Hotel had a great location by the Chicago theater, which was the reason we went. The room was small in size, but it was a Greater Chicago room, so that was somewhat expected. There were no power outlets in the room? I had a laptop, my phone, my blackberry, and my wife's phone and we only had 2 outlets to charge them in and they were located in the bathroom.” Apr 16, 2008 by
Jessyca from Eugene, OR
“Hotel was chic and metropolitan with great access to the theatre district and walking around Chicago. Loved the staff and location.” Apr 16, 2008 by
Will from Waterville, OH
“The hotel was very nice and the staff was excellent. The only real issue was ice. It looks like with the renovations are complete that will not be an issue. Location is great, close to public transportation and within walking distance of many attractions.” Apr 15, 2008 by
John from Chicago, IL
“A nice place to stay if you are in town for a play as it resides in the theatre district of Chicago. Service was very good and we had no problems.” Apr 10, 2008 by
Ruth from Clinton Township, MI
“The Hotel Allegro was under constructions so the Business Center and Fitness Center were closed, which was disappointing. Also, the beds were too soft and it made for very uncomfortable sleeping. On the bright side, location was great, decor was great and the staff were very friendly.” Apr 10, 2008 by
Stephenie L. from Chicago, IL
“I could not plug in my laptop - every outlet was behind heavy unmovable furniture. The only outlet I could find was over the bathroom sink. The hallways looked like they were still under construction. I had a do not disturb sign out and yet my phone kept ringing to find out when I would like to have my room made up. TV would go out every 2 minutes with a message saying "Please recycle IRC" so you had to click the remote again to get it to continue working. There were no water glasses in the room to use to get a drink of water.” Apr 8, 2008 by
Ron from Washington, DC
“Whenever they get through fixing the place up it will be nice. The rooms may be a little snug, but the place is nice.” Apr 8, 2008 by
John from Decatur, IL
“Very good. Location is excellent right on Theatre Row in the Loop. Each room was equipped with an I-Pod cradle, which was a pleasant surprise for those of us who choose not to leave out I-Pods in our car during valet. Overall, Allegro was an amazing value, and I would highly recommend it to anyone visiting Chicago for Baseball, Theatre, or business.” Mar 20, 2008 by
Jody from Fort Wayne, IN
“Staff was super friendly-front desk, room service, breakfast, happy hour. Just excellent. The breakfast and happy hour was a nice touch and the location was great. Clean, suites were comfortable.” Mar 18, 2008 by
Al from Bellingham, WA
“Lovely old-style hotel. Still under re-construction so be prepared for some construction noise (concrete drilling at 7:30AM!), and lack of (for example) gym facilities.” Mar 14, 2008 by
Brett from Mankato, MN
“Lots of hype for a room the size of a dorm. The cost translated to more than $10 per square foot of space, mostly occupied by furniture.” Feb 27, 2008 by
Bob from Westmont, IL
“Old but nice, grteat location, very friendly staff.” Feb 26, 2008 by
Janet from Berlin, MD
“Beautiful decor with wine party and very excited staff-rooms were very small but quaint.” Nov 8, 2007 by
Carol from Schaumburg, IL
“Great cocktail hour.” Sep 15, 2007 by
Lauren from Gilford, NH
“I was in Chicago for business and was being put up in another of Kempton's hotels, the hotel Burnham, also in downtown Chicago. The hotel was clean, I liked the interior design and decoration, and the staff was friendly and helpful. The only negative I noticed was the slightly aged look the carpets and decor in our room had, but the hotel apparently is planning renovation this year. Even compared to the Burnham (which is very plush and posh), the allegro held its own, and my friend and I were pleasantly surprised that we weren't disappointed with our experience when we switched hotels. The allegro is right in the theater district and within walking distance of so many of Chicago's wonderful sights. I'd stay at allegro again in a heartbeat!” Hotel Representatives:
