  • Great location.
  • No swimming pool & poor
    TV reception.

“Great location and fabulous hotel. Top shelf amenities and nice coffee machine in room. Had to request robes, but they were nice and no cost to use. Right by all of the shopping and buses, etc. My family really enjoyed it.”

“This is a great hotel with some great nastalga. I will stay there again for sure. Great location, 300ft from Miricle Mile. Service is what you would expect from a 4star. Staff was very freindly and helpful. Rooms are great and spacious and show some of the real history of the hotel.”

  • I liked the bed.
  • I did not like the room. It was a cubicle at best.

“I think back in the day, this was a grand hotel. It seems to need a little updating. The rooms are very small (at least the room we had was). I am glad I was able to stay in this hotel. However, I would not choose it in the future.”

“I would recommend this hotel to anyone who wants a luxury hotel in a very central location in Chicago. The staff was wonderful and very helpful. Can not think of anything that was not excellent.”

  • The lobby was beautiful.
  • I asked for 2 queen size beds because I was traveling with our 17 year old daughter and they had a room with 2 twin beds.

“I felt that they should have found a suitable room. The drain in the bath was clogged. This has happened every time I have stayed there. I think the old pipes can't be fixed. It is getting a bit run down.”

  • Beautiful hotel, very friendly staff and great location.

“The Drake is one of Chicago's premier hotels. It has been a landmark since the early 1900's but is continually updated to maintain its superior facility. The location is great and the staff is very accommodating. I would recommend this hotel to everyone.”

  • Very dirty carpet.

“Very disappointed in The Drake. Room was not ready when we tried to check in around 3:30. Carpet was very dirty - badly stained and crumbs from former guests' food. Bathroom floor was dirty, especially accumulated in corners. Also, we were not able to sleep because of noise coming from another rooom - walls are thin. Will not stay there again, knowing that there are other much nicer and cleaner hotels in that same general area.”

  • Friendly staff, comfortable room, excellent location.
  • Distance from theater district, but cab was reasonable.

“This is an excellent place to stay!! Michigan Avenue shops and museums are very convenient. Not as convenient if you are with people who have difficulty walking. Beautiful and elegant!”

  • The service was excellent. Every employee, we came in contact with, went out of their way to help us.
  • The room we were in had a musty odor and the carpet was not in good shape.

“The service in this hotel was better than any other hotel I have stayed in. The lobby was beautiful and all of the facilities were very well maintained. The hotel was located in downtown Chicago and very convenient to everything. We had lunch and a late night appetizer in the hotel and both meals were very good. The clam chowder in Coq d'Or was some of the best chowder I have ever tasted, full of chunks of clams and potatoes and it was perfectly seasoned. I would definitely recommend this hotel for anyone looking for world class service, good restaurants and conveniently located downtown.”

  • The staff was very friendly and the location was wonderful.

“Our experience at The Drake was great. Our view was gorgeous overlooking Lake Michigan. The location was very convenient to the Magnificent Mile and the staff was very friendly. The concierge was great.”

  • The parking was only by valet SUVs which we had.

“We had a horrible flight and did not get into our hotel until 0230. Staff saw how tired we were, and that we did not have any luggage, and gave us tooth brushes and complimentary breakfast coupons. The staff felt sorry for us and tried to improve our experience in Chicago. We loved the city and The Drake Hotel.”

  • Our corner hotel room was huge and they had a pull out sofa bed for the kids.
  • The food at Coq d'Or was not tasty. The fish was not fresh and the steak overcooked.

“Our family loved the accommodations. It was unique to be staying in such a famous hotel. The staff was helpful and welcoming. Even though there is no pool at the hotel the clean beach is across the street. It is a must see.”

“The location is great and the room I had was huge. It was fairly pricy. The bathroom was small and lacked shelving to put toiletries on considering the room was huge, it was odd to have a small bathroom. For such a high end hotel the staff was unfriendly and not trained well.”

  • Location of the hotel was great.
  • Old hotel with rude staff that needs a major overhaul.

“We checked into room 147 at first which had no natural light, dirty and sticky carpet, beer in the mini-bar which had been emptied and refilled with water, and full of mosquitoes. We moved into another room which was better but still had that old feel and smell to it. The dark and dingy casual restaurant served greasy food with poor service. Very disappointed with the Drake hotel.”

  • The Drake experience is consistently very good. When traveling, this is hugely positive.
  • I needed access to my car (next door garage) and the front desk had not already called despite my request.

“This is a local favorite for me- the Drake is in a convenient location and the service is consistently excellent, the rooms and beds, in particular, are always very comfortable. Free web access would be nice.”

  • The elegance of the hotel, and the location.
  • No pool.

“The food in Drake Bros. was wonderful. Our room was clean, the bed was very comfortable and the food and drink bar was well stocked. The elegance of the hotel took our breath away and the history of it is fascinating. We were happy to be at the top or beginning of the mile. We were close to the shops we wanted to visit.”

  • Location in MI Ave, fun 4th of July city.
  • Room very dated. Wallpaper was peeling off the bathroom walls. No wireless. Cable for internet would only work at desk. Cost for fitness center/pool.

“I've always wanted to stay at the Drake - a classic Chicago landmark hotel but was extremely disappointed with Hilton's lack of imagination for how to delight it's guests. Location is stellar, lobby is still amazing, room shabby and dated with no surprises to put a smile on your face - nor to get you to say wow - I've never seen that before. Not even wireless in the room. I guess Hilton is investing in keeping deb-daughter Paris out of jail rather than keeping their customers excited about their product. Nice bed though.”

  • Rooms were very clean and beautiful, lovely views.
  • Did not have their own bus service to the airport, no complimentary transportation or breakfast.

“This was a great hotel to stay at, gorgeous main lobby. Our original room was much smaller than expected and had the wrong size bed, but staff was kind and quickly upgraded us to a junior suite that was more than roomy enough and had a great view of Michigan Avenue. Walking distance from most anything you'd need. We never had to take a taxi. Walking distance to Subway trains.”

  • Magnificent common areas, room was very large and elegant.
  • TV was old and would not rotate to allow watching from bed. Bathroom needs to be modernized.

“This is a luxurious experience in an excellent location. High tea is not to be missed. Shops in the hotel were excellent. Staff was exceedingly friendly and helpful. Housekeeping and maintenance were very prompt and efficient. Room was very large and comfortable. Refrigerator was not cold enough and they promptly brought in another one that worked well. They should offer free high speed internet and the TV needs to be upgraded and placed in a better location. Bathroom could be spruced up too. Overall, I would give the hotel 4.7 out of 5.”

  • Great location.
  • Were not accommodating for our needs. Housekeeping did not replenish coffee, glasses, etc.

“We were traveling together as a family of 4, so we called ahead to request a non-smoking room with 2 beds. We realize that these are requests and not guarantee of getting what we want, but I have never had a problem getting requests accommodated before. We were told to have such a room we would have to pay extra $ a night. We weren't willing to do so, so we received a smoking room with 2 twin beds, since they said that was the best they could do. I would not stay there again.”

  • Great location, nice bar in the lobby.
  • Slamming of the doors in the morning by staff.

“Overall we liked the hotel, the location was really great! Our room was small, we had a queen sized bed and were hoping for a king. The only bad thing was the door slamming by the staff in the morning. I tried it and they were clearly slamming the door it was not that way on its own. But overall I would stay there again. The bar/lounge in the lobby was great!”

  • Staff were extremely friendly and courteous.
  • Although mine was a non-smoking room, there was an odor of cigarette smoke.

“The Drake is classically elegant, with spacious, comfortable rooms and great amenities. Room service delivery was quicker than promised, and staff throughout the hotel were friendly and gracious. When I reported a problem with the TV in my room, the engineer on call not only showed up within moments, but flatly refused a gratuity, saying he was "just doing his job"!”
