• Our room faced an alley and building next door.

“This hotel is nice, but not 4 star. you need to review this rating. there is no pool and the fitness center is the size of a small bedroom. also, parking is $38 a night. right around the corner is a garage for $16 a night.”

• Nice window seat with a great view of the Chicago River and Wacker Drive.
• Restaurant was good but seemed overpriced, bed a little firmer than I like.

“Staff was very courteous, concierge even saved us money by suggesting taking a $2 bus to the museums instead of driving and paying for extra parking. The room was nice, well appointed and very quiet. The hotel was a short walk to Michigan Avenue, and not too far of a walk from the Hancock and Sears Tower.”

• Goldfish, great music, window seat with nice view, wine reception, outstanding service, and pet friendly: what's not to love?
• Valet parking took 20-25 minutes to get car. Rooms on south and east side have bad views.

“The hotel Monaco is not just a place to stay: it's an experience. Take a little time to read on the history of the hotel in the provided literature, and you'll truly appreciate what makes it different than a bed-for-a-night place. It's not just about having a very nice decor, soothing music and relaxing goldfish available in your room, a casual wine reception to experience a new variety and meet some other visitors, and a great location to experience Chicago. It's about taking time from your life to escape, relax, and be treated special while connecting with other people. It goes beyond the top-notch service and friendliness of the staff. The rooms are also very clean and the entire place is decorated very nicely. We really enjoyed having a west-facing room with a nice big picture window seat where we enjoyed a glass of wine while watching the busy city below and listened to the great music mix CD provided in the room. (We bought a copy to keep and really enjoy listening to it; we're already looking forward to expanding the collection at our next stay!) We will definitely be staying at this hotel again and will be trying the other Kempton hotels. We might even plan ahead for one of the luxury massages or other spa treatments. This hotel is awesome for couples, great for business travelers, and suitable for families, though the primary focus is romance and business. It is also very pet friendly -- a service difficult to find in many places. If you don't travel with your pet (or even if you do), ask for a loaner pet and you'll have some entertaining and relaxing goldfish brought to your room.The location is very conveniently located to all the downtown and river north attractions (the parks, shopping, and theaters, plus many great restaurants and night spots). Just be sure you ask for a room on the river (north) or city (west) sides because the view to the south is a small alley with an office building and we imagine the east view is similar. ”

• The beds.

• The ambience.
• We took our pet, which being a pet friendly hotel was appropriate. However, they did not have outside accommodations for our pet, concrete or nothing.

“#14 should sum up negative. Otherwise, this hotel was pure boutique. Accommodated us as well as our pet, 'welcome doggie bag' upon arrival, dog bed in room, etc. Very small boutique feel.”

• Location definitely and also the wine hour.
• The pet friendly -- at first okay but then saw a dog eating a treat in front of the elevator.

“The Monaco staff was extremely friendly and helpful. Really enjoyed my stay and was very comfortable. The pet friendly aspect of the hotel however was a little unnerving especially when dogs were eating treats in front of the elevator or romping around the area where the wine hour was held.”

• Upper class hotel at affordable pricing.
• The robes were old and much worn.

“I have to say this is one of the nicest and best hotels in Chicago. There is a pretty big ledge in the room that you can lay in or sit in and watch the street below you. You also get a goldfish in the room if you choose. The bed and linen was awesome. I'm very picky on these things and this met my expectations to the fullest. We will stay here again!”

• Nice and comfortable, we utilized the hotel during new years eve/new years and it was soundproof of all partying if any, we didn't hear it.
• Animals are allowed.

“This is a great stay! Fabulous hotel with fabulous decor and staff. I enjoyed being right between state street and Michigan avenue. (The two large shopping areas) my husband's favorite part was the large window seat with a great view over the river in our hotel room. He took several Naps there. I am going to new York in the spring and plan to look up nick¿s Kempton hotel as well. Have already recommended hotel Monaco to several others! ”

“Reasonably priced 4 star hotels conveniently located for downtown Chicago activities. This was our first experience with Kempton hotels. We enjoyed our stay and will use Kempton again.”

“This was an awesome place to stay. The staff was great about telling us get around the city, which bus/train to take or not take. Just mentioned that it was our anniversary at the desk and 20 mines later there was a knock on the door. Here they sent us a bottle of champagne. Very unexpected and much appreciated. This was the first time that we were treated like other guests, no corner room facing a wall. We had a great room facing the river, window seat to watch the traffic and people, great wine in the evening and star bucks in the morning. I would recommend this hotel to anyone lucky enough to go there. I wouldn't pay the full fare but felt it was worth every dollar that I paid! Again can't say enough well about this hotel.”

“We changed to this hotel from Swissotel and were extremely happy we did. The staff was friendly and the room had a great feel. The amenities (internet, wine/social hour, fitness center) were complementary rather than being nickel and dimmed. I felt like this hotel was much friendlier than and just as fancy/comfortable as any hotel I've experienced in Chicago.”

“I think this hotel is pretty nice and close to restaurants and shopping. The room was very unique. Although I feel it should be rated as a 3 star. It did not feel super luxurious and that is what I expect from a hotel rated 4 star.”

• The corner room was one of the best I've stayed in, never before have I seen so many windows in the room I can sit in.
• Concierge was a bit on their high horse, in the evening the rap music was not appropriate.

“I stayed at (2) W Hotels which were direct competitors with the Monaco. Definitely ask for the corner suite which has 4 lay in large windows looking down on the Chicago River Sky Line. The best room and location on my stay.”

“I have recommended both the Hotel Monaco to friends. The rooms were very well appointed although we would have appreciated at least one free movie channel, i.e. HBO, Showtime. The ease of check in and parking was the best I've experienced. ”

“I would call this a boutique hotel as it is very small and quaint therefore you can receive the type of service you expect from a 4 star hotel. Wine service in the evening is a plus, as they serve excellent wines.”

• The extra charge for holding our bags after 2:00pm. We were not told about this!!

• Could not find even one thing wrong with our visit!

• The staff was very friendly and the upgrade was GREAT!
• No in room coffee maker, but still no big deal.

“My wife and I thought the place was great! We were upgraded to the Mediterranean suite, one of the nicest rooms we've ever stayed in. The afternoon wine reception was fantastic and for my business the location couldn't be beat.”

“I would not hesitate to stay at this hotel again. Excellent location, fun and friendly staff. Free Starbucks and tea in the morning, free wine at 5. Room was very clean and decor was fun. Bed was extremely comfortable, and the room was very quiet.”

• The staff demonstrated an eagerness to please and a willingness to go the extra mile.
• When we first arrived, a very friendly trainee checked us into the wrong room. This was quickly corrected.

“The Monaco is a delightful place to stay in the Windy City. Located in the heart of the city, the Monaco is an easy walk to Millennium Park and many of Chicago's eateries. The staff was friendly, knowledgeable and eager to serve. When they discovered that it was my wife's birthday, a bottle of wine appeared in our room with the hotel's compliments. Before checking out, we requested a car to take us to the airport, a white stretch limo awaited us. We regretted leaving. The next time, our stay will be much longer.”

“I arrived on Saturday and the night desk person was neither friendly or helpful. It took me over an hour to actually get into a room for the night. I spoke with the manager the next morning and he was more than helpful and that somewhat made up for the trouble the night before.”
