• Concierge was away from desk twice when I had questions, even though it was during hours that she was supposed to be there.

“I would call this a boutique hotel as it is very small and quaint therefore you can receive the type of service you expect from a 4 star hotel. Wine service in the evening is a plus, as they serve excellent wines.”

• The little extras in the room made it feel very cozy and special.
• The extra charge for holding our bags after 2:00pm. We were not told about this!!

• The goldfish!
• Could not find even one thing wrong with our visit!

“Great location, wonderful staff. The concierge helped with dinner reservations. Although the hotel was half a block from the "L", you could not hear the trains. I plan on making another leisure trip downtown Chicago and will try to stay at the Monaco!”

• Would have liked to have had a pool.

• No in room coffee maker, but still no big deal.

• The staff demonstrated an eagerness to please and a willingness to go the extra mile.
• When we first arrived, a very friendly trainee checked us into the wrong room. This was quickly corrected.

“The Monaco is a delightful place to stay in the Windy City. Located in the heart of the city, the Monaco is an easy walk to Millennium Park and many of Chicago's eateries. The staff was friendly, knowledgeable and eager to serve. When they discovered that it was my wife's birthday, a bottle of wine appeared in our room with the hotel's compliments. Before checking out, we requested a car to take us to the airport, a white stretch limo awaited us. We regretted leaving. The next time, our stay will be much longer.”

“I arrived on Saturday and the night desk person was neither friendly or helpful. It took me over an hour to actually get into a room for the night. I spoke with the manager the next morning and he was more than helpful and that somewhat made up for the trouble the night before.”

“The hotel is situated in an excellent location, with easy access to Millennium Park, the Art Institute, shopping areas around North Michigan Avenue and countless restaurants. The decors in the room and throughout the hotel are very tasteful. My room had a beautiful view of the Chicago River. The staff were extremely friendly and accommodating. They even offer in-room spa service. I was extremely pleased with my stay and would definitely consider returning to this hotel in the future.”

• The room was not ready when we arrived, they were changing the mattress, but this was minor because we were able to check in before 3:00 pm.

“While I found the staff to be pleasant and helpful, I found that this hotel did not meet my standard of a four star hotel. Decor was shabby and very garish. Amenities that you would expect such as coffee/tea were not provided in the room, but could be had in the lobby, an inconvenience for the business traveler. I wouldn't rate this hotel above a 3 star...if that.”

• It was within walking distance of almost everything!
• The parking fee was high, but that's what it is everywhere.

“My wife and I spent our 15th anniversary there and had a great time. It was nice to walk to Navy Pier, The Art Institute and The Museum of Science and Industry. The views were fantastic. The hotel was very nice would definitely stay there again!”

• Queen rooms were not adjoining - so we were separate from the rest of our party.

“This hotel is in the heart of the city - close to Michigan Avenue, the theaters and the lake front It is manageable and cozy and the staff is friendly and helpful. Our 80 lb. lab was welcome like a member of the family (which he most certainly is) and yet the room was impeccably kept - no smells or stains from previous four- legged visitors. Complimentary Starbucks is served in the am and a wine tasting is held in the evening. Loved it!”

The amenities and decor was very unique and non-institutional, which made our stay a lot of fun. The front desk staff was very helpful, though the concierge seemed too busy to help and the hotel forgot our wake-up call.”

Upon return to our room, we found the remaining bottle of wine on ice! The turn down service was excellent. I thoroughly enjoyed my stay at Hotel Monaco, I recommend it to any traveler to the windy city.”

“The bed in the room was very comfortable. We were having a weekend with the girls. We asked for a roll away bed because we were given a room with only one bed. The roll away was extremely uncomfortable. The edges of the mattress were very hard and springs were poking up as well.”

• We were so thrilled to be there. Everything was immaculate and the room had 2 window seats. We WILL stay at Hotel Monaco the next chance we get!

• I loved the wine hour in the early evening coupled with the palm/tarot card reader. What a way to draw people in and keep their interest for an hour.
• No complaints.

• I thought I could work a thermostat & an alarm clock.

“I live in Chicago and had a power outage during a heat wave, so normally I wouldn't review a hometown hotel... I normally stay in smaller hotels that are for the "budget minded." This hotel was great. The room was huge, the AC was great, the location can't be beat. They offer a lot of luxury services for those who want to splurge, but the hotel is not pretentious or stuffy at all.”

• Directly outside my room was an air handler for the hotel that sounded like a small freight train and ran constantly.

“The hotel has a great location and is a smaller boutique-type hotel. The rooms are not huge, but they are ample enough for most people. The bathroom was very nicely done and there were nice amenities such as bathrobes for the visitor's use and an iron and ironing board, very handy for business travelers to touch up a shirt, skirt, dress, or slacks. The best part is that the hotel is easy walking distance to some great restaurants (such as Morton's), the train to O'Hare (about four blocks), and a short cab ride to great shopping on Michigan Ave. You can walk it if you prefer, but it would be a bit long in hot or cold weather.”

• The window seats in the room gave us a nice view of the river. Our 6 year old twins loved sitting in them and watching the city life all around them.
• Our room was clean and cozy, but overall we thought the hotel was overpriced.

“The Hotel Monaco is in a great location! We were able to walk to the Art Institute, Millennium Park and to the theater to see Wicked. The staff was friendly. It would have been nice to have a coffee maker in the room or a light continental breakfast in the lobby. The hotel did provide morning coffee in the lobby, but the coffee dispensers did not work and the coffee was gone by 9:00 A.M.”

• NOISE! The garbage trucks from the alley below the south side are crashing in the early AM.

• The hotel's unique style and feel make it a wonderful stand-out in a long line of luxurious yet unmemorable competitors.
• Given the Monaco's limited street frontage, dropping the car off for valet parking during rush hour might be a challenge.

“Without feeling quirky simply for the sake of quirkiness, the Monaco successfully hits the right, unique note of memorable style while still professionally fulfilling all service and facility expectations.”

• The decorating was unconventional and fun while being comfortable and giving a sense of luxury. And you can have a goldfish.
• The bed, while comfortable with good linens, was not the most comfortable I've experienced in a hotel.

“The desk staff, while not giving us the exact room we had requested, did give us one of their "tall rooms" apparently designed for visiting basketball players. An extra-long king bed and a very high shower head would make this a great choice for people who can't often find such amenities. I wish I had remembered to request a guest goldfish; next time I will. What a fun touch from a fun hotel. I don't know if the South Water Kitchen, attached to the hotel, is under the management of the Hotel Monaco, but I wouldn't recommend it. The half hour wait to be seated for Sunday brunch was not the problem -- they had a waiting list and we were able to wait in our room -- but the forty-minute wait for a decidedly average breakfast was unacceptable.”

“The rooms have interesting decor, nice bathrooms, and very comfortable beds. Amenities included a CD system, a fully stocked mini-bar, and nightly turn-down service. The hotel has free high speed Internet, but it's a bit slow. My wife really liked the decor and the wide window seats that look out onto some great Chicago views. We would definitely stay here again!”
