• Lobby.
• Small hotel room, charge for gym use.

“Lobby was beautiful and beautifully decorated for Christmas. The hotel room was small and old. There was a $10 charge to use the gym for one day, which was disappointing. The location was a bit far from the area I believed I was selecting.”

• The atmosphere during the holiday is wonderful, and the lobby was exquisite.

• The rooms were impeccably cleaned.
• Grout missing from tile, corners of mirror separated, faulty cord / plug on hair dryer.

“The common areas of this hotel have amazing architectural features. While the rooms are very clean and comfortable, they could use some general maintenance to meet the high standards that one would expect in such a prestigious hotel.”

• Willingness of the staff to go the extra mile.
• It was perfect.

“Until I told my mother, with whom I was traveling, that we would stay at the Palmer House, I did not know it was where she and my very recently deceased father had honeymooned 56 years ago. I shared this with hotel staff the day before we were to arrive, and offered to pay for an upgrade or something special. They put us in a beautiful suite and truly seemed delighted to have her back. It meant so much to her and helped us create new memories while cherishing the old. Aside from all that, the hotel is absolutely beautiful!”

• Beautiful lobby, comfortable bed.
• Very thin walls - could hear guy throwing up next door.

“Lobby is gorgeous, rooms are small but that is expected with a historic hotel. Staff is friendly and helpful. Downsides: extremely slow elevators, dingy bathroom, very thin walls - could hear people on one side going at it and guy on the other side throwing up.”

• The decor and knowing that this hotel has history.
• Not enough people working at the registration desk.

“Having never stayed at the Palmer House, this was indeed a treat. The hotel has a lot of history in Chicago and they definitely put forth a lot of effort to make sure guests are comfortable. If I could afford to, I would stay here more often.”

• Beautiful good location.
• Did not like paying extra for the internet service.

“Beautiful, old hotel with wonderful courteous, professional staff. We even had a housekeeping take her time and show us a couple of the conference, ball rooms. She was very pleasant and helpful and proud of her work environment. We ate in both of the restaurants they had and they were very elegant, great service, and food.”

• Convenient location and luxury lobby.
• The accommodations are less than other hotels, and the facilities are pretty old.

“The hotel is at a great location with luxury lobby and other accommodations like spa or fitness center. But everything in the room costs you, e.g. a coffee maker. In the room we stayed the toilet was almost out of toilet paper, and there's no spared roll. Overall, great location, great hotel, and if you are rich, it's perfect.”

• The lobby was beautiful.
• The room was somewhat drab.

“The lobby was beautiful and the staff were friendly and helpful. We never got through to the concierge on the phone and when we went down to the lobby we had to wait 15-20 minutes at least to talk to someone. And then we got bad recommendations to places to see/eat at few different times.”

• Public Areas are beautifully decorated and clean.
• Rooms are very small and everything is an extra charge.

“The Palmer House hotel is in a great location with beautiful decor throughout the common spaces. However, the standard room rate is more when you consider that they charge you extra for every amenity. If you use price line, then it's a good deal. If you pay any other way, it's a very poor value.”

“The Palmer House Hotel is a beautiful hotel. The decor was from another era, much different than your run of the mill hotels. The location was great, right off of the El as well as within walking distance to Michigan Avenue and Centennial Park. I would definitely stay here again.”

• Beautiful Lobby and bar area.
• Terribly small room, treated like second class.

“While the hotel is quite beautiful, what I was given was terribly small for two people. The drain was somewhat clogged and standstill water in shower, was annoying and not fixed. When asked for another room, was rudely told, next time pay full price for a room. While the hotel is close to all downtown sights the concierge was less than helpful when asked for getting around to sites. Overall disappointing experience.”

• It's up scale and pristine.
• We booked a king-bed room and all they had when we arrived was a single room or a suit without bed! They gave us 3 roll-aways in the suit!

• We loved the history, the beauty, and the quality of the remodeled spaces, and the restaurant!
• The train just outside, and the neighborhood was a little borderline, but not too bad.

“We have been recommending this hotel to our friends and family. We loved the overall beauty of the hotel spaces, the staff was so helpful, and the restaurant was excellent. We went back for a second meal, and that is unusual for us. We normally seek a new dining experience each day. The location was just a little off the beaten path for us, but worth every extra step! The pool was beautiful, also.”

• Very rude staff, very small rooms.

“Unless you look like you are throwing money around, the staff ignores you. Very rude at the front desk. Bothered if you ask them a question. The gentleman at the concierge was an exception - he was great. Rooms were small with no views. Very noisy between rooms, I could hear the beeps next door from a person getting text messages all night.”
