  • The hotel was beautiful and nearby everything.
  • There was major construction across the street all night long.

“The hotel in general was great; however there was the major construction that went on all day and all night long with jack-hammering all night. This was not something we were aware of, nor was it something the hotel did anything to make more comfortable. We needed an upgrade to a larger room and we were unable to be accommodated until the time of check in, which by then the hotel was sold out and we were stuck with the small room that we had, that was terribly unfortunate.”

  • Very Convenient. Offered Starbucks coffee each morning downstairs (great since rooms don't have coffee makers) and also a wine hour each afternoon.
  • Traveling (4 total) with older children and we were not able to get a double room - staff not very sympathetic or willing to help.

“This is a beautiful old hotel in the heart of downtown Chicago. Very convenient to everything. The staffs are friendly but got the feeling they cater more to business travelers and couples. My husband and I were traveling with our two children (20 and 17) and were not able to get a double room, plus the rooms are quite small.”

Cleanliness:[7] • Staff:[6] • Location:[8]

  • Location was great, although there was construction all weekend even through the night.
  • Rooms were small, lobby area small.

“This room was supposedly an upgrade, but I would say it is a downgrade. Lobby area very small, no place to lounge and have a drink. They did offer a wine hour but there was no place to sit. Construction, including jackhammers worked all night long. The location is great for shopping and access to Millennium park.”

  • Staff was incredibly friendly and helpful. We loved the Complimentary Wine Reception for guests. First class!
  • Our 20 year-old, very cosmopolitan daughter loved it too.

“If you have traveled in Europe and stayed at any of the small, elegant hotels many Europeans frequently, you will love this hotel. Rooms are small, but large enough and perfectly appointed. The beds are very comfortable and between the accommodations and staff, your every need has been anticipated. The architecture, the art in each room and in public places, the dark wood in the lobby and hallways create a feeling of Chicago in the early 1900's. I have stayed in the Windy City dozens of times, but never at this hotel - a real gem!”

Cleanliness:[8] • Staff:[1] • Location:[8]

  • The decor was nice and the bellmen were friendly.
  • The front desk staff was not friendly, the shower was horrible and they did not meet our request for two beds.

“There were many things keeping this hotel from being 4 stars. First, the reception staff was not friendly and did not meet the request for two beds, which they had promised when we called before arriving. My daughter had to sleep on a lounge chair the first night until they finally gave us a new room for the second night. The shower curtain did not have a curved bar or magnetic strips at the bottom so when you were showing it stuck to you. Finally, there is so much 24 hour construction going on out in front of the hotel that it was hard to sleep and hard to find. I recognize that it is not the hotel's fault for this construction. The hotel was located in a heavy construction area.”

“Hotel Burnham in Downtown Chicago is a place I would stay at again. Hotel staff was very friendly and left us in peace. There was a complimentary wine reception each night at 5pm. The location was perfect for my wife and I to getaway -- located 1 block south of the Oriental theater, a few blocks north and east of Sears Tower, and a very few blocks west of Millennium Park and the magnificent mile. All in all, a great location and a very classy place.”

“A wonderful hotel for the price in the perfect downtown Chicago location. I probably wouldn't want to stay there during the week right now because our room looked out over a construction site, but the wonderful details in the somewhat small room made it worth every penny, and then some. Would've appreciated toothbrush & toothpaste being available given current carry on restrictions.”

“The bed in the room was not specific. When I arrived with my 2 young kids, I was told my room had 1 queen size bed and no room for a roll-away. I was offered a $100 upgrade to a larger room w/ a king size bed and couch. With no other choice available, I accepted. Also the $35 fee for parking was a surprise. In the end, it was a very nice room and the hotel was in a great location for the activities we had planned. I would stay there again - but I do feel the unplanned expenses detracted from my visit.”

“I was very disappointed that the room with a king bed that I called to confirm was not made available to me. I spoke with the desk as well as placed a call to the general manager. I am 6'3" and my wife is 5'11" - we need the room. They said all kings were allocated. I explained that I called to confirm that - they said "sorry". I pressed to say that they honor that request for others, they said sorry. ”

“Great hotel for couples, but not perfect for families. It is very difficult to get rooms with multiple beds, but the rooms themselves are beautiful. It has a workout room, complete with individual TVs on each machine, but no pool or Jacuzzi. The location is convenient, the CTA red line is right around the corner and the Miracle Mile and Millennium Park are nearby. For single travelers, the hotel is unfortunately not near major bar areas. The staff is extremely friendly and helpful, and the managers offer a complimentary wine hour from 5-6 every day. Overall, a great hotel for couples.”
