“The hotel was beautiful. I've been here before on business - this time it was for a weekend getaway with the family and it more than met our expectations. Our teen age children would have appreciated a free breakfast - we ended up at west egg - recommended by hotel staff - it was great!”

• To me, the room seemed no better than a Holiday Inn. I have stayed at the Hilton which is listed as the same as this one and there is no comparison.

• Front desk gave us the run around instead of helping us.

“Pretty, elegant, quiet, convenient to the "el" orange line from midway. Night light in he bathroom under the vanity. Loved the bathrobes. Iced water in glass carafes in the lobby.”

• We loved the bed and the view was great! Beautiful at night.
• If I had to find something to complain about it would be that we felt the prices in the restaurant we a bit high.

“We loved this hotel. We would definitely stay there again. I would recommend paying a little extra for a river view room. The view both during the day and at night was terrific. It was clean and very comfortable. It was also just a short walk across the bridge to Smith and Wollensky, where we had an excellent steak dinner outside by the river. Easy walk to Michigan Avenue but would recommend taking a cab to Navy Pier.”

• The beds were excellent, and the rooms were very high quality from the carpet to the bathroom fixtures.
• About the only thing that I did not like was the escalator was getting repaired.

• Comfortable and romantic.
• I didn't like the restaurants setting. No quick service.

• The location was excellent. The room was satisfactory. Pool, etc very nice.
• Our toilet was broken. I asked for extra coffee for the room 3 times without a response.

“The $40 charge/night for parking seemed excessive, although that might be the going rate. It did have a good location for shopping and theatres. It was nice that this was in walking distance. The pool/exercise facilities very good. As noted above, disappointing to have a broken toilet and that the staff didn't respond to request for extra coffee for the room.”

• Very modern - amazing beds / comfortable pillows, I think I am going to buy one.
• Service in restaurant was a bit slow considering the number of people dining at the time.

“Overall, we enjoyed our stay. The bedroom was modern yet comfortable, especially the bed which was amazing. The bathroom and amenities were very nice and the overall feel of the hotel was very nice and accommodating.”

• Dog friendly, very friendly staff.
• Very little character.

“This hotel, itself, is not very warm nor charming. Each member of the staff I interacted with was wonderful. The room was above average, not spectacular. The bed was comfy. The best thing that I liked. It was a dog friendly hotel. If I would've known this beforehand, I would've brought my own dog.”

• The waiter we had in the restaurant and the restaurant was excellent.
• The room was to warm for us to sleep and the noise from the street kept us from being able to have the window open.

“The hotel was beautiful. All public areas kept immaculate. The beds were very comfortable and the bedding was luxurious. The bathroom was roomy with all the amenities. There was plenty of space in the room and the desk and easy chair were very comfortable. A hotel facilities book would have been very welcome with some information about city attractions and restaurants.”

• I had go there again in a heartbeat! Scrumptious and super friendly staff.
• Sink drain was slow - reported at checkout. Vanity mirror bulb out -reported same.

“Located at the northeast end of the theater distinct, the hotel is within walking distance of three hotels and many fine restaurants. Staff is attentive and competent, and the rooms are tastefully and stylishly appointed.”

• Many rooms near the elevated railway and noisy.

“Had to change rooms once. Too noisy near the el. Staff helpful. Breakfast buffet cold and overpriced. Fabulous location in Chicago. Nice walking area and very convenient to the loop, the no. Michigan ave. And theater. Great front doorman and concierge help. Very quick car valet service. Gets a tad crowded on weekends when there is an outside function in the hotel. Nice pool and workout area. Overall a tad overpriced but I suppose this is what big city hotels get for an ordinary room these days.”

• The staff went beyond to make sure my Chicago trip was great.
• It's trivial, but the bathroom door was designed to close automatically, which meant the full length mirror did too, a door stop would have helped.

“It is in a great location, a block off the theater district, walking distant to great shops and attractions. The rooms are generously laid out and plush, including nice towels and down comforters. The concierge staff were phenomenal at helping plan my 2 days of free play in the city, they even came up with a 'rain plan.' Over all - and A+ - I hope to stay here again in the future.”

• The flower arrangements were beautiful, Conceriege was very helpful.
• First room was supposed to be non smoking, reeked of smoke.

“Impressive lobby, very friendly personnel, disappointed that our room reeked of smoke even though supposed to be nonsmoking. However, it was corrected immediately. The bellman waited with our luggage and someone brought up keys to our new room which was perfect. It would have been nice to have been given a room with a couch and second set of windows as our friends were given that we were traveling with. Each of us had a room at the end of the hallway but our's was didn't have the jut out with couch, etc.”

For a deluxe king room it seemed rather small, but I was told the rooms with two beds were no larger? I would definitely recommend this Hotel to all types of travelers.”

• Convenient location for theater district and sightseeing.
• The elevator doors close quickly when the elevator comes.

“This hotel was nearly perfect for us. It was only a few blocks from the theater district, which is part of why we were in Chicago. The accommodations were roomy and classy. The location was also convenient to the Magnificent Mile and Millennium Park. We received a room at the end of the hall, but that was okay. It was quiet and seemed to be of as good quality as the other rooms on the floor.”

• The Great Street Restaurant overlooks the river and is a pleasant place to relax and eat.
• The bathroom door must be propped open if you want the door to be open.

“The Renaissance Hotel is a great place to stay when visiting Chicago. It is located within walking distance of the Art Museum and Millennium Park. Its restaurant overlooks the Chicago River and has friendly staff and excellent food. A stroll along the River after dinner was wonderful. The room was attractive and clean and the bed was very comfortable.”

• $30.00 parking then tip extra (usually any city hotel not just this one).

“The beds were fabulous and the rooms were extremely quiet! There was a small amount of evidence that the cleaning crew was not quite up to par as there was some sticky residue on the glass on the night table. Overall the hotel was excellent and I would definitely recommend it. One small thing is the girls at the front desk could have been more friendly.”

“The hotel location is great for seeing the sites of downtown Chicago. The staff was helpful from the time you pull up in your car, to when you leave. The rooms were beautiful with a view of the Chicago River. wonderfully decorated lobby, rooms, and lounge. You really feel special.”
