• Strict adherence by Westin to a style and level of service established by hotel Nikko.
• Poor lighting in room, heating was broken (too cold or too hot).

“This is perhaps the best located hotel in Chicago, whether for business or leisure travel. The elegant simplicity of the former hotel Nikko lives on, with few signs of age or loss of capability that made the Nikko a prime destination in Chicago for so many years. Highly recommended.”

“This is a high quality hotel with nicely appointed rooms. The lobby was welcoming and large and opened into a spacious bar area where people enjoyed drinks and appetizers. We had a flat panel HD television in our room that the kids loved. Room service was prompt and courteous and the food was tasty. We were within walking distance to Chicagos theater district and some fantastic state street shopping.”

• The rooms were spacious and who doesn't love a heavenly bed.
• TVs need to be placed higher. Hard to watch from bed.

“We booked 3 rooms and each room was spacious and nicely appointed. The bathroom was also very large. This hotel is really close to some great places and a short walk to Michigan Ave. The bar/lobby area was right in the middle of the main floor and the no smoking makes it allot more enjoyable. The heavenly bed makes it hard to want to check out in the morning. The restaurant also had a superb breakfast buffet. Our experience is worthy of another visit!”

“We have stayed in a lot of 4-star hotels in big cities and this was definitely my favorite. The decor is sophisticated and urban but the staff was very friendly, helpful and accommodating.”

• Staff was outstanding and helpful.
• Valet parking isn't included in the daily rate, and at $41/day was a not-pleasant, rather expensive surprise.

“The Westin River North is a nice getaway hotel in a great location. The rooms are comfortable, well-appointed, clean, and a nice size. Due to construction, the entrance is a bit hard to find, but the staff and accoutrement make this a worthwhile hotel.”

• One of the most outstanding rooms Ive ever had in Chicago. Incredible value.
• What's not to like with a river view in a corner room!

“The Westin River North is the old Neco Hotel and it still has the charm of an Asian Motif. The open space lobby and bar has charm, and the garden areas, even in November add character. And what a grand view of the Chicago River, with beautiful architecture all around. It is a very short walk to anywhere on Michigan Ave, but Nordstrom may catch you first. Also, there are many interests right out the front door. Too often visitors get caught up in the Miracle Mile and forget about the great boutiques and cafes on adjacent side streets. This is a great travelers hotel with a staff of helpful, friendly people. I can't wait to return.”

“This hotel was awesome. It was close to Michigan avenue plus it had great views of the river as well as all the old bridges! The bathroom was huge and the beds were fabulous! The hotel was better than I thought it would be.”

“Hotel was clean and comfortable, but not quite as nice as some other west in hotels I have stayed at. Not sure we had a "heavenly bed".”

• The room had a beautiful view of the river.
• The front desk hotel staff was unfriendly and not very acidulating or helpful.

“Although the room was great, the one drawback was the bar area when you first walk in. It is very poorly lit and we had trouble seeing the items in the bar. There was not sufficient lighting in this area.”

From the staff to the rooms to the location to the dining and public areas, I recommend this hotel and will not even consider staying anywhere else when visiting Chicago!”

• The courtyard next to the restaurant was a great place to go for a change of scenery.
• No vent fan in the bathroom.

• We hated the toilet. It was too low to the floor and awkward to flush.

• Price of the parking.

“Very nice hotel with comfortable rooms/beds. Very good staffing. Only one restaurant is a little limiting, but there are many within walking distance except for breakfast. Parking cost is exorbitant but comparable to other hotels in the area.”

• Great location with wonderful view of the Chicago River. Extremely comfortable bed.
• Could hear the neighbors conversations easily.

• There was not one thing that I didn't like.

“We were greeted promptly; luggage brought to our room ASAP; the house cleaning was impeccable. The Westin was magnificent. The staff should be applauded for their work. The Westin should be thankful to have such excellent help. Very relaxing place to be.”

“The hotel was beautiful and very close to shopping. Staff was not helpful - to the point of being rude. I would never pay full price to stay there. All food provided by the hotel was unreasonably expensive.”

“Overall we had very pleasant stay at the hotel. The room was clean, large, attractive and comfortable and we had a nice view of the river. The only problem was when we were trying to get the car from the valet to head to the airport. It took over 30 minutes on a Sunday morning before 7 am, when no one else was waiting, when they had said it would take 15. The main problem was the unsympathetic employee who said cheerfully, "it will probably take a while!" and offered no apology. If it had taken much longer I would have been completely infuriated by that attitude.”

• Lobby seems cold and light reflecting off of dark floor is distracting.

• The staff was friendly, professional and just super.
• This has nothing to do with the hotel, but there was construction going on outside the hotel. It made it difficult to get to where we wanted to go.

“The hotel met and/or exceeded all of our expectations. We were very pleased with the staff and the accommodations. All of the staff from housekeeping to the clerk behind the desk made us feel very welcome. The location is ideal for our purposes. We would recommend the Westin to anyone.”

• The location, the concierge and doormen, the view, the common areas.
• There was hair on the sheets and the snacks and drinks in the room cost extra.

“We normally travel with our children so this was something different for us. We felt very comfortable here. The room was very comfortable and we had a great view. The lounge was spacious and offered a variety of things.”
