• Beds were very comfortable and the view was amazing!
• Staff was only somewhat helpful. We had two problems and they did not show any concern.

• The price I paid through Priceline.
• The view I got. The difficulty getting to our room, small room.

“I cannot imagine anyone paying full price for this room. It was very small and very inconvenient to get to. I cannot imagine how we would have gotten out of the place. We had to take two sets of elevators to get to the rooms. Our view was the inside of the hotel walls. We could not even see the sky!”

• The dunkin donuts close to the hotel.
• Just about everything.

“We checked in and were given a smoking room, which we do not smoke. My husband called down and asked if we could have a non smoking room. They said no. Our room was old and outdated and also was above the ballroom, which would not have been a problem except that they had a DJ every night till midnight, which was very loud and we are not teenagers anymore. Then every night like clock work at 4 am the room next door would come in drunk and screaming till about 5:30 am. We called to complain but it did not do much good. Overall it was just not a very good experience.”

• The bellmen were excellent - very helpful and extremely friendly.
• The front desk staff was not impressive and the concierge was disappointing.

“The location is a little far from Navy Pier - but still located in a good area. We felt very safe and the view of the river from the hotel is excellent. The front desk staff was less than impressive and the concierge was mostly away from his desk and then unhelpful when we could manage to locate him. Parking is a bit pricey - but still less than other hotels downtown. Rooms were nice and clean - no complaints. The hotel lobby is on the 15th floor - had to take two seperate elevators to our room.”

• Cityskape bar.
• Kind of hassle taking different sets of elevators to get to hotel lobby and then to room.

“Stuck us in the room right next to the staff elevator shaft. Very, very noisy. Luckily they stopped room service around 11 and didn't start again until 7, so sleeping wasn't too bad. Overall hotel was nice. Cool bar with an amazing view. Good location to walk to LIncoln Park, Streeterville, Loop.”

• Very convenient access via El from the airport. Only $2.25!
• Little confusing getting to it from the El stop (all indoors through the Mart.)

“The hotel begins on the 15th floor and goes to the 23rd. Be sure to ask directions to the Lobby from the El stop. It's not a bad walk through the mart but can be a bit confusing. The El is not particularly accessible for people with disabilities or large suitcases something to consider. The pool looked very inviting and even had lap lanes for those more serious swimmers.”

• It connected to the shops and was in walking distance to nightlife in downtown Chicago.
• I did not like that you have to take the stairs to the 15th floor to get to the lobby of the hotel.

“This hotel was great in every way except one. It had great views (the lobby was on the 15th floor of the Sun Times Building and the rooms were above that.) The rooms were large, the beds were comfortable, and the public areas, restaurants and pool were lovely. The one problem was that it was located away from all the action of Chicago, ie. Millennium Park, Navy Pier, the Magnificent Mile, etc. You either had to do a lot of walking or take a taxi. If the hotel would run a shuttle bus over to Michigan Avenue, that would be a great addition.”

• Amazing view and very helpful staff.
• Restaurants were too expensive for quality of food and renovation took away from overall aesthetic.

“ This Holiday Inn absolutely met my expectations, along with very comfortable, well-kept rooms with free internet access, it's got a decent gym and swimming pool. Overall we enjoyed our stay very much. ”

• Large fitness center open from 6am - 11 pm.
• Seemed to want to nickel and dime us.

“I don't feel that I was treated as well as others that may have paid full price. They asked for $20/night surcharge to have a room with a view (otherwise you faced an interior courtyard). They also wouldn't provide a room with a king size bed without an additional $20/night. I'm unsure as to whether this would have been waived had I paid a specific price on Priceline, but it made the experience a bit disappointing.”

• The hotel was nice and the staff was very polite.
• It was too far from all the main streets like Michigan Avenue.

“This was a very nice hotel. It is updated, it doesn't look like the pictures at all. It's right by the River. The staff was very nice and friendly. The only thing is that it is about a mile away from the main streets (Michigan Avenue) and if you are not bringing a car, you will be walking a lot. Other than that it is a very nice and friendly hotel to stay at.”

• Once the renovations are complete the lobby will be very nice!
• Location.

“At the time I stayed they were still working on a pretty major renovation project, so the hotel is somewhat of a mess. The rooms are pretty standard, nice but nothing special. Location leaves a bit to be desired for the leisure traveler. I would however recommend it for the business traveler, particularly if you are doing business in the loop.”

“The hotel staff was very friendly, the rooms were nice, neat and the lounge was wonderful! I only stayed over night but my stay was pleasant & relaxing for the most part. They are in the process of remodeling which was fine, but I wasn't able to view fully the entire hotel.”

• The view from the hotel restaurant was absolutely amazing!
• The hotel is under construction, the concierge is never available, the parking is way overpriced, and the rooms need to be renovated!

“I would not stay here again. The rooms were very small and we had a view of the construction in the courtyard (even though the view was what sold us on the hotel to begin with). The hotel staff were rude and not helpful, and the concierge was never available (ever). I wouldn't recommend this hotel!”

“The breakfast for 3 cost more than the room. Felt the breakfast rates were really out of line, and were only charged because we were a "captive" audience. It was the first time the valet parking ticket had to be stamped by the front desk in order to get the car back.”

“All things considered we got a good hotel. The location of the hotel was just what we wanted and the room was clean and comfortable. Wish we would have had more of a view than the pool room window but we weren't there to stay in the room. Staff was helpful except for some confusion upon check out but it was resolved just fine.”

• You can get to the L without going out on the street, very comfortable pillows.
• Unprofessional employees, roach in hotel room.

“Hotel is inconvenient to get too. You need to take an elevator to the 15th floor before you even get into the hotel lobby and then another one to your room, it takes too long to get in and out. At check in we were told we couldn't park in front of the hotel to bring our bags inside, but were directed to a parking lot that had no parking available at all. Receptionist wasn't friendly or welcoming. There was a live roach in the bathroom. Cleaning ladies didn't restock toiletries or coffee. On the last day, the person that sits with the visitor brochures was loudly arguing with his mother on the phone. Overall the hotel could be nice, but the staff was extremely unprofessional and I would not go back there.”

• The proximity to the El and the bus line was great.
• The hotel is old and rooms are run-down.

“The Holiday Inn is clearly outdated and in need of a refresh. The location is not walkable, but is very close to CTA lines, which is a plus. The value was not apparent.”

• Great view, good location, good pool for swimming.
• Expensive food, coffee at 3.50.

“The view was fabulous from the north side but we did have noise from the elevated train. Earplugs did the trick. It was hard to eat light food and the food seemed expensive. We dealt with 4 different concierges and they were all wonderfully helpful. In short, it was a good experience.”

“Good hotel for the money. Location was a touch out of the way, but not a problem at all for us. It's a great if you don't mind walking a bit to get to the major locations. Room and hotel were nothing special, but very comfortable, quiet, and easy to deal with. Parking was not good, but basically because of how the hotel dealt with it. Hopefully this was out of the ordinary.”

• It was close to the entertainment that I was planning to attend.
• Parking was $28 a night.

“This hotel was well priced for the area that it was in in Downtown Chicago. Check-in and check-out was quick and easy. The room was clean and it had a nice view of the city. The only issue that I had was that overnight parking was $28 a night which was expensive but I guess it's Chicago. Also, the hotel is on the 16th floor so it wasn't a quick in and out of the building.”

• The rooms with views (facing the outside) had great views of Chicago skyline.
• Erroneously assigned wrong names to our room's billings which caused
  major problems; but did correct it.

“Holiday Inn Mart Plaza is off the beaten path, so if convenient location is a priority then this is
not the place to stay north of the River. But if you get a room w/ a view, you'll get a great view of the Chicago skyline. But its isolation from other amenities (restaurants, shops, attractions, transportation) makes its one - and only one - restaurant a negative feature. (But there is a Deli in the lobby of the Chicago Sun-Times, which the hotel sits on top of, that's open seven days a week.)”
