“Wow. This is a fantastic place to stay. As other reviews have noted. Eat somewhere else. Otherwise this is perfect. I have traveled extensively, and this is one of my all time favorite spots. I must note I love to be outside and to fish. I ordered a Mojito at the bar and they actually went outside while I waited and got fresh mint from their herb garden. The staff is pleasant and the views of the bay are breathtaking. There is a great Italian restaurant just outside of town in Fairhope that was wonderful. We had dinner in the fine dining restaurant at the hotel and it was, I hate to say it, bad. One last note, my husband smokes and there are not any smoking rooms that I am aware of, but there are rooms that have balconies. Well, we were on the ground floor and a spark set the pine straw on fire. I am talking about a real fire. We were about to mess up our pants kind of fire. We took water from the bathtub to the pine straw repeatedly, and filled every thing available to get it out. This was a fire that was apparently big enough to be called in to the hotel staff. Their response was a gentleman rode over on a golf cart to check it out. He was very kind and gracious. It was a large enough fire that we took photos of the area. My stay there was so wonderful. I have seriously thought about looking for property in Fairhope. This is a beautiful place. They had a fabulous spa, bicycles, swings where you could just sit and read a book. This place, aside from the not so good restaurants, was one of the most perfect places you could imagine. Now, if you are looking for city life, look somewhere else. Otherwise, it is perfect.” Oct 29, 2008 by

“The Grand is a lovely resort hotel right on the Mobile Bay. The rooms in the main building are quite large, the rest are average size. It has lots of activities for kids and adults, a great pool and nice meeting facilities. I always enjoy my stays.” Jul 28, 2008 by
Mh from Jackson, MS
“This is a great place for kids. There are several organized kids activities throughout the day (weekly schedule is published and placed in rooms). In addition, the pool is great, plus you can use bikes, kayaks, sail boats, etc.” Jul 27, 2008 by
Kelly from Minster, OH
“This is a wonderful place to stay, we had a lovely room with a great view. The staff was attentive and very friendly. We had amazing food, great time over all. We are planning and going back soon!” Jun 27, 2008 by

“Breathtaking property, hospitable staff, scenery location.” Jun 3, 2008 by

“This hotel was grand indeed! The location of the hotel was so relaxing. We requested an inside room, but were delighted to find that we were upgraded to a Jr. suite that was right on the point. We were visiting during Memorial Day weekend, so we really felt blessed to be upgraded to such a wonderful room and view. Our suite had water views from every window and the layout of the rooms was perfect with a separate bedroom and sitting room (featuring a loveseat/sleeper, which was very comfortable for our 13 year old son.). The BR had a king size bed with a very comfy mattress, and a down comforter. It even featured a large closet, which is very rare in hotels these days. The bathroom was small, but had all the amenities we could want. All the staff was so nice from the gatekeeper to the maids! It was much better than home with so many activities to enjoy. Our son thought the pool was wonderful until we explored the grounds and found so much more to do. We loved riding the catamarans. (Can you believe they were free for an hour each day?) We paid $20 to have one of the guides give us a sailing lesson and it was money well spent. You could also make use of the kayaks for an hour for free. They have croquet, horseshoes, ping pong tables, a putting green, card games, and bikes (free rental for one hour a day, then $10 an hour afterwards), and they'll even provide you with fishing gear and a free bucket of bait, too. Take your tennis and golf equipment to enjoy the courts or the greens. (They will rent equipment, too.) Be sure to look at the daily recreational schedule that is delivered outside your door each morning. You can take a horticultural tour of the grounds, a tour of the chef's garden, a bike ride to the Civil War Cemetery, play UNO with other guests, and have an opportunity to parade around the grounds with the crew that fires the cannon each day at 4 p.m. to commemorate war veterans. Although, you'll find it very hard to leave the comfort of the swings or your lounge chair on the beach. Yes, it will be very difficult to leave the hotel grounds, but you won't want to miss visiting the lovely town of Fairhope, either. When you get to Fairhope, stop by the visitor center for a brochure/map of the shops and businesses in Fairhope, pick up the local restaurant menus, and visit their clean rest rooms. Sign the visitor book, and they will mark your hometown on their wall map. If you're visiting on Thursday, don't miss the downtown market! Guy (host of Diners, Drive-ins, and Dives on the Food Network) recommends eating lunch at Panini Pete's in the French Quarter and so do we. The prices were good; the food was plentiful, and tasty, too. When they suggest cookies or beignets go ahead and try them, you can always walk off the (very delicious) calories while you visit the wonderful shops of Fairhope. Families with kids will love Papa's Pizza (can you believe we paid $14.99 for an extra large 16 in. 3 topping pizza!) It's not a fancy place, but it was very interesting, quite clean, and the pizza was delicious! Buck's Diner was a quiet and refreshing place for dinner. They offered a meat and 2 veggies plate that was good. We loved their fried green beans appetizer, too. It was a little more expensive for dinner, but my husband says that the macaroni and cheese made it all worthwhile. Their sign says open 'til, but when we called, they said they're usually open 'til 9 or 10 p.m. As for the shops, we found it difficult to leave the comfort and convenience of the Page and Palette book store. You could find wonderful snacks in their cafe/coffee shop, as well. If you're here during the week, watch for their art classes. This hotel was so relaxing that we didn't even need the spa. We really could have stayed longer. There was so much to do that we couldn't fit it all in to our 3 day stay. We will definitely visit again very soon.” Apr 1, 2008 by

“Great resort with many activities for all ages every day. Facilities are top notch. Only negative was that hotel employees did not seem up to Marriott level. Lifeguards were wearing sweats.” Jan 9, 2008 by
Rick from Baton Rouge, LA
“The Grand Hotel is a great location and a wonderful place for a couple, a family to get away. Also an ideal location for business meetings with golf, spa, bicycles, walking, tennis.” Dec 31, 2007 by
Patrick from Louisville, KY
“This place is incredible and we thoroughly enjoyed our experience here.” Dec 27, 2007 by

“Overall, this was a great vacation experience. We have traveled the world and stayed in many hotels, this was among our favorites.” Aug 21, 2007 by
Nancy from Fairhope, AL
“The hotel has everything you need with an air of by-gone days. One is transported to a time when life was "grand," but you do not have to be formal. It is an excellent place for someone single, a romantic couple hideaway, or a playground for families. The golfing is one of the best. It is the perfect place to be.” Jul 30, 2007 by
lana from fort worth
“Stayed 3 days in June. The grounds are beautiful, beds are a dream. Food is very expensive. Ate at the salt water grill, the food was at best terrible, Rosemary chicken (dry and tough as if it had set all day) burgers burnt. Two children & 2 adults bill was 85.00 and none was worth eating. Don't try complaining all I got was a sorry. Other than the food the stay was good but too pricey for what they offer.” Jul 6, 2007 by
Ryan from Yuba City, CA
“Stayed here for 3 nights in early July. Being from California, the heat and humidity was a bit crazy! Resort was beautiful, Great old buildings and nice beaches. Pool complex was great, the main pool was a bit overwhelming though with all the kids. There is a 21 and older only pool and area, however, some guests apparently didn't feel that these rules applied to them and nobody was really enforcing it. The Grand dining room was an excellent choice for dinner. There new Wellington was great. Wine list was nice as well for being so far from Napa. First night we had a room that was not facing the bay, it felt tight and kind of small. Next morning we asked to switch to a nicer room and were able to do so for no extra charge. This was a bay view room which had a nice balcony on it. Overall this was a beautiful resort with all of the resort amenities that you would expect from a Grand Marriott. Very nice!” Jul 5, 2007 by
Mike from Alabaster, AL
“Great resort. Hope to return soon.” Jun 30, 2007 by
Jeanne from Mobile, AL
“This was a great location for our family vacation. The pool was great for kids of all ages, the grounds were wonderful for leisurely strolls and there were a lot of options as far as things to do had we been looking for things to do.” Jun 19, 2007 by
Fr M. from Sewanee, TN
“A lovely setting, rooms furnished beautifully, and friendliest staff ever. Prices too high for those not playing golf or tennis (resort fees should vary accordingly), food and drink around the pool too expensive for what is offered (margarita in a paper cup was $8.50!). Kids loved the pool, bedding was very nice, rooms dark, but noise came through from adjacent rooms.” Jun 13, 2007 by
Bob from St. Louis, MO
“This was a very nice hotel in a beautiful setting. The golf course is extremely nice and challenging. The service was on the slow side, but overall a friendly staff. Parking was a bit of a problem after returning in the evening. Overall it was a pleasant experience.” Jun 3, 2007 by
Mindy from Sumrall, MS
“Overall we tremendously enjoyed our visit. The staff was great. It is a very decent, family oriented hotel. The quietness of the place is wonderful. No loud music, etc. The breakfast buffet is fantastic. The hotel grounds are gorgeous.” Mar 24, 2007 by
Niki from Brentwood, TN
“This place is heaven on earth. It is family friendly and romantic, the workout room is great, and the staff was extremely friendly. Had a great room in the spa building. Breakfast buffet is delicious.” Mar 18, 2007 by

“Everything was wonderful until the second day when the maid did not clean our room. The manager sent for someone ASAP and she did not do her job. And that was the last impression left with my family and myself.” 0 of 1 people found this review helpful.Feb 24, 2007 by

“I would have enjoyed my stay better if it were summer instead of winter.” Feb 22, 2007 by
Jan from New Orleans, LA
“It is no accident the Grand has been a favorite destination for those in the know for the last 160 years. The place has been renovated and updated after recent hurricanes, and it is come back better and stronger. The pool is amazing. The grounds are breathtaking. Great tennis courts. A great place to get away from it all, and charming Fairhope is temptingly nearby.” Sep 22, 2006 by
Chester from Bradenton, FL
“Without question, no hotel comes close in comparison. This is a first class hotel.” Aug 29, 2005 by

“We had a great time at the Grand at Point Clear. The overall resort is just beautiful and the staff could not have been more accomadating. We needed a crib for our room and that was not an issue. We also requested to be placed next door to some friends also staying there. The Marriott folks took great care of us and honored all of our requests. The only thing we found a bit much was the breakfast buffet at 16.00. We could have used a cheaper option, but ended up going into nearby Fairhope instead. Most comfortable bed that we have ever slept on in a hotel!” 1 of 1 people found this review helpful.Aug 19, 2005 by

“This hotel takes you back to the old days of summer vacation. It has so many things for kids and adults to enjoy together. The fishing pier had cane poles with bait ready for guests. Our kids just loved that! And the grounds are beautiful. Everywhere you look, your eyes see beauty. The pool is fantastic with baby beach, fountains and a water slide! And, of course, a separate pool for adults. Wonderful place for couples or families.” Jul 28, 2005 by
Raymond from Saraland, AL
“great place to relax, also try to make the sunday brunch (wonderful).” Jul 22, 2005 by

“The hotel and grounds were very clean and well maintained. We loved that they offered three pools, one for just adults, a large pool for all ages and an indoor pool. The Spa was wonderful. Children were enjoying the beach area. ” 1 of 1 people found this review helpful.Jun 18, 2005 by

“The only negative was the weather, and that was not all bad. The setting is so beautiful. The old building is fantastic; same with the spa. A little hard to get to... but worth it!” Apr 3, 2005 by
Laurel from Baton Rouge, LA
“I've been going there for years and have always liked it! It's a good resort hotel with a great spa and close to the quaint town of Fairhope,Ala.The price was INCREDIBLE.” 2 of 2 people found this review helpful.Apr 2, 2005 by

“A wonderful hotel to bring a family. Plenty of activities for young and old. The spa was absolutely beautiful.” Mar 28, 2005 by
Charles from Belden, MS
“Absoultely charming resort hotel. New spa is excellent. Only two negatives are the $20 per day woprkout facility fee and the drastically overpriced breakfast buffet. Besides this, the place is perfect. I highly recommend this magnificent waterfront property. Nearby towns are charming as well.” 2 of 2 people found this review helpful.Mar 22, 2005 by
Cliff from Henderson, NV
“Great Place to visit if you are staying more than 1 night! Couldn't really complain about anything other than the 11:00am check-out, and I thought $9.00 for a very average burger was pricey, even for a resort. Other than that Great Resort!” 1 of 1 people found this review helpful.Mar 9, 2005 by
Cynthia from New Orleans, LA
“A great place for a relaxing getaway but I would recommend eating in town rather than at the resort.” Mar 5, 2005 by

Carole from Birmingham, AL
“Considering this is an old hotel built in 1846 it is very nice. I probably would not have been pleased staying in the older part of the hotel because of the smell. Old wood, etc. has a mildew or dusty smell. That triggers my asthma.” Jan 12, 2005 by
Jeremy from Auburn, GA
“From the Valet to Room Service this resort is top notch. I was always greeted by a professional helpful smile & every need was catered to. I have never enjoyed a stay as much as I did at this resort. ” Dec 27, 2004 by
Timothy D. from Cordova “In a word the stay was excellent. The staff, facilities, amenities, and location were all excellent. I will surely choose this location again.” Oct 1, 2004 by
Georgia W. from Athens “The Grand Hotel at Point Clear, AL is wonderful! The rooms are very nice and clean, the food is wonderful - a bit pricey, the staff was the BEST! Hurricane Ivan had just been through, so the beach area and some trees were destroyed, but no structural damage to this grand old hotel.” Sep 9, 2004 by
Robin C. from Harahan “We had a wonderful weekend with our girls. We vacationed with other friends/families from home. The weather was perfect (even though we were worried about the hurricane). The atmosphere of the pool area and the bay were relaxing. The activities and location of the activities provided for the children by the hotel were excellent.” Sep 7, 2004 by
Sharon L. from Metairie “Great family resort. We look forward to returning in the near future.”
